Dealing With The Spirit of Lateness
Opening Scriptures
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV): “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
Ephesians 5:15–16 (KJV): “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Proverbs 6:9–11 (KJV): “How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.”
Memory Verse
Habakkuk 2:3, For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Praise and Worship
Father, I thank You for the gift of life and the opportunities You have given me. Thank You for every season You have brought me through. Give me wisdom to understand the value of time.
Deliver me from every habit, distraction, weakness, and opposition that causes unnecessary lateness in my life. Teach me to recognize my season, prepare properly, act responsibly, and make wise use of every opportunity You place before me, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: September 3, 2026 – Dealing With The Spirit of Lateness
The spirit of lateness is a spirit assigned to delay, frustrate, and make a person miss their appointment and their opportunity.
The spirits behind lateness are demonic spirits, and they work specifically to make a person always behind in life, always a step late, always arriving after the door has closed.
These powers use curses, covenant, foundation, and bad dreams to frustrate and disappoint a person’s plan and expectation.
A person can labour hard, plan well, and prepare properly, and still watch the very thing they worked for slip away simply because the timing was tampered with by a power working against them from behind the scenes.
Are you always given up at the edge of breakthrough? That is the spirit of lateness to good things operating in your life. Do you always arrive at an important event without knowing why you are late, even when you left early, even when you planned ahead, even when nothing on the surface explains the delay?
The spirit of lateness is at work. Do you always lose something good, or does an opportunity always slip away from your hand at the very point it was about to become yours? This is not ordinary misfortune. This is a power that must be dealt with directly, by name, at the root.
This is where we must bring in another power that works hand in hand with lateness, and that is the spirit of Pisgah. Let me define it before we go further.
The spirit of Pisgah is a power that allows a person to see their breakthrough, to come close to their breakthrough, to almost touch their breakthrough, but stops them from entering into the full possession of that breakthrough.
Numbers 27:12 and Deuteronomy 34:1 to 4 give us the picture of this spirit clearly, in the account of Moses and Mount Pisgah.
God took Moses up to the top of Pisgah, showed him the whole promised land, Gilead, Dan, Naphtali, Ephraim, Manasseh, Judah, all the way to the utmost sea, and then the Lord said unto him, this is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed.
Moses saw everything with his own eyes. But the Lord told him plainly, I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. Moses saw it. Moses came close to it.
Moses stood at the very edge of the very thing he had laboured and suffered for across forty years in the wilderness, and yet he did not enter it.
He died at the edge, within sight of his own breakthrough. That is the spirit of Pisgah, the power that brings a person close enough to see the promise, close enough to almost touch it, and then stops them at the boundary line.
This is why some people testify that they have been to the edge of their breakthrough more than once, close to the job offer, close to the visa approval, close to the wedding, close to the contract signing, close to the childbirth, and something always happens right at that boundary to push the whole thing back.
It is not because God does not want to bless them. It is because a spirit of Pisgah is standing at the edge, assigned specifically to that boundary line, working to ensure they see the promise but never cross into it.
Beloved, that is exactly what the spirit of Pisgah does to many people today. It allows you to see the job, but they won’t allow you to start the job. It allows you to experience to pray, but never allow you to see the result in your life.
It allows you to see the visa approved in your hand, but something delays the travel until the opportunity expires. It allows a woman to see herself being pregnant in the dream, but the pregnancy that should manifest keeps slipping away.
This power specializes in bringing a person to the edge, the very edge of breakthrough, then cutting them off right there. That is why some people say, I have been to the edge of my breakthrough many times, I always see it, I always feel it is my turn, but somehow it never becomes mine.
The powers behind this spirit work through several channels. They work through curses spoken over a life or a family. They work through covenants entered by ancestors who did not know what they were signing into.
They work through foundational problems, meaning something that happened at the beginning of a person’s life, at birth, at dedication, at a shrine, that programmed delay into that person’s system.
They also work through bad dreams especially dreams where a person is late to an event or programme, dreams where a person was in the queue before it reaches his turn, the programme has ended.
All these are not just dreams, they are alarm signals showing that the enemy is at work to frustrate that person’s plan and expectation in the physical.
Are you always given up at the edge of breakthrough? You start something, you labour, you almost reach the finish line, and suddenly everything scatters. Beloved, that is the spirit of lateness to good things operating in your life.
Do you always arrive at an important event without knowing why you are late, even when you planned to be early? That same spirit is at work.
Do you always lose something good, does opportunity always slip out of your hand at the last minute, like water slipping through fingers? That is the spirit of lateness fighting your expectation.

Beloved, you need to deal with the power of lateness at the edge of breakthrough, and you need to deal decisively with the spirit of Pisgah. Do not just admire your Pisgah mountain and stop there.
Rise up in prayer, pull down every curse of almost there, every covenant of near miss, every foundation of unfinished testimony, and every bad dream sent to announce your defeat in advance.
What Moses could not do because of disobedience, you can do through the finished work of Jesus Christ, because greater is he that is in you than the spirit fighting your crossing over.
So beloved, what must you do practically and spiritually to move from Pisgah to possession. First, stop rehearsing your past failures at every new opportunity, because what you keep confessing you keep attracting.
Second, engage in violent, targeted prayer against every curse of unfinished breakthrough operating in your foundation. Third, refuse the wilderness mentality that says maybe it is not for me, and take up the Caleb mentality that says give me my mountain.
Fourth, when God says arise and go over, obey immediately, because the river only opens for those whose feet are willing to step into it.
The Lord that opened Jordan for Joshua is the same Lord standing at the edge of your own breakthrough today, saying arise, go over. Cross over in the name of Jesus.
