Victory Over Sickness and Disease

Father, I worship You because You are the giver and sustainer of life. Thank You for the body You have given me and for every day You have preserved me. I surrender my body, mind, and entire life into Your hands.

Give me faith to pray, wisdom to take responsible care of my health, courage to seek appropriate treatment when necessary, and grace to trust You through every season, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: September 4, 2026 – Victory Over Sickness and Disease

Sickness is a condition that attacks the body, weakens its strength and prevents it from functioning properly as God designed it to function.

Disease can affect the body, mind and emotions of a person. It can even interrupt plans, consume resources, create fear and make a strong person feel helpless.

Now beloved, in the realm of the spirit, not every sickness is purely medical. Some sicknesses have a doctor’s answer, and thank God for medicine and for doctors, they are also a gift from God.

But some sicknesses have a spiritual root, and no matter how many hospitals a person enters, until the spiritual root is dealt with, that sickness will keep coming back, changing form, moving from one part of the body to another, refusing every medical treatment.

Beloved, there are illnesses in our world today that are caused as a result of what we eat, the environment we live in, and many other natural causes.

A man who eats carelessly for years, refuses to rest, exposes himself to harmful substances, will naturally break down in his body, and that is not always the direct work of a witch or a wizard, but sometimes it is simply the result of poor stewardship over the body God gave us.

But there are also illnesses that are spiritual, sicknesses sent by the devil as a weapon to weaken a person, to delay destiny, to cause stagnation, to frustrate plans, and to consume the resources meant for someone’s future through endless hospital bills.

The devil is strategic, he does not always care whether the sickness came through natural neglect or through direct spiritual attack, once it is in the body, he will ride on it to steal, kill, and destroy. Somebody said good health is underrated, and that statement is true.

If you are enjoying good health today, do not take it for granted, lift your hands and thank God, because there are people on hospital beds right now who would exchange everything they own just to walk the way you are walking freely today.

But if you are currently battling one sickness or another in your body, hear this clearly, God’s healing is your portion. Jesus Christ is the healer. He heals all manner of diseases, all manner of sickness, the small ones and the great ones, if only you will believe.

Good health is tied to the word of God, and the word of God is power, the word of God is the solution to every health challenge you are facing.

For your information, sickness is from God, but from the devil, and you must not allow the devil to keep causing you weakness, pain, and discomfort as if it has a permanent right to your body. Beloved, there is no small sickness and there is no small disease.

What the world calls a minor headache, a minor fever, a small cough, can be the very seed that a demon rides on to grow into something that wounds, paralyzes, or kills a person if left unattended and unchallenged.

Never despise any symptoms in the body, address it early, both in prayer and in proper medical attention. Are you currently down with an illness in your body as you read this devotional? God is healing you right now.

Victory over sickness and disease has already been given to us at Calvary. Proclaim the healing power of God upon your health situation today, do not just think it silently, open your mouth and speak it, because faith that is done only in the heart and never on the lips has not yet done its full work.

Beloved, one thing we must deal with when discussing sickness is fear, because fear can make a sickness heavier than it actually is. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, for God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Fear will make a small ailment look like a death sentence in your mind, fear will make you imagine the worst outcome before the doctor even finishes running the test, fear will rob you of your quality sleep, rob you of appetite, and weaken your immune system further.

God did not give us that spirit. He gave us power to overcome them, love that casts out fear, and a sound mind to think clearly and make wise decisions concerning our health.

Now beloved, we must also understand that victory over sickness does not always look the same in every case, and this is where many believers get confused and discouraged.

Sometimes victory is immediate healing, the kind where a person is sick one moment and completely well within minutes, like the many people Jesus touched in the gospels.

Sometimes victory is gradual recovery, where the body responds to treatment and prayer little by little over days or weeks. Sometimes victory is a successful operation, where the hand of a skilled surgeon becomes the very hand of God’s intervention.

Sometimes victory is medication finally working after several adjustments. Sometimes victory is simply discovering the problem early enough that it can still be treated before it becomes fatal. Sometimes victory is the strength to endure a long recovery process without giving up.

Sometimes victory is peace in the middle of uncertainty, when the test results are not yet back but your heart is not troubled. Sometimes victory is wisdom to change a harmful lifestyle that has been feeding the sickness.

Sometimes victory is a supportive family standing by your bedside, a good doctor who treats you with care, financial help that comes at the right time, or access to treatment that many others do not have.

Beloved, do not restrict God’s help to only one form. James 1:17 says, every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights. If God uses prayer to heal you, thank Him.

If He uses a doctor for your healing, thank Him. If He uses medicine to resolve the issue, thank Him. If He uses rest, nutrition, counselling, surgery, rehabilitation, or supportive care, thank Him, because all these are channels through which the Father of lights sends down His good and perfect gifts.

Beloved, I must address something dangerous happening in many circles today. There are people who stop taking their prescribed medication because somebody told them that using medicine means they do not have faith. That is dangerous teaching, and it has cost many people their lives.

Faith is not demonstrated by irresponsible behaviour. If you believe God has healed you, that is wonderful, but you can still speak with the doctor responsible for your care before changing or stopping any medication.

Do not stop essential treatment suddenly because of pressure or shame from another person’s opinion about your faith. Wisdom protects life and ensure logevity. Proverbs 11:14 says, where no counsel is, the people fall, but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Seek qualified medical advice, follow responsible care, and pray fervently while you do so. God who gave the doctor the knowledge to treat you is the same God you are praying to, they are not enemies, they work together for your good.

Beloved, when sickness enters a person’s life, it does not only sit quietly in the body, it can spread its network over every other area of that person’s life.

Sickness can affects our thoughts, because a mind that used to think about business, about ministry, about the next assignment, now thinks about test results, about the next hospital appointment, about pain management.

Sickness affects finances, because money that should have gone into building a future now goes into drugs, scans, and consultation fees. It can even affects work, because a person who used to be active at work, attend meetings, and lead a team, is now on sickbed.

It can also affects our plans, because the trip that was already booked, the project that was already started, the wedding that was already planned, all now have a question mark hanging over them.

And beloved, hear this, it can even affect our faith itself, because a person who has been strong all his life can suddenly find himself dependent on drugs or others for healing. And that shift alone can shake a man to his foundation.

Jesus Himself demonstrated this distinction clearly, and every believer must pay attention to this example. In John 9, the disciples saw a man who had been blind from birth, and instead of asking Jesus to heal him, their first question was about blame.

They asked, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind.  They were searching for somebody to point a finger at, the same way many people are searching today, looking for the uncle in the village, the enemy in the office, the mistake of the grandfather.

But Jesus answered them directly in John 9:3, neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents, but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

That answer alone should correct many wrong assumptions still circulating in the church today. Not every sickness is evidence that somebody sinned. Not every disease proves that a family member is responsible. Not every health problem means somebody in the village is sitting somewhere manipulating your life.

Sometimes people become sick simply because the human body, as strong as it is, remains vulnerable., vulnerable to infection, vulnerable to genetic conditions inherited quietly without any curse attached.,

Others are vulnerable to injury, vulnerable to environmental factors like pollution and contaminated water, vulnerable to the natural changes that come with age, and vulnerable to lifestyle choices such as diet, stress, and lack of exercise.

Beloved, faith should make you prayerful, but faith should also make you truthful. If you are sick, acknowledge that something is wrong and seek appropriate help. Denying a symptom does not make you spiritual.

If you are bleeding unusually, having difficulty breathing, experiencing severe pain, fainting, having persistent high fever, sudden weakness, chest pain, or another serious symptom, prayer should not become the reason you delay urgent medical care.

Pray while you seek help. Let somebody take you to the hospital when necessary. Allow qualified health professionals to examine you. Take appropriate tests.

Ask questions. Understand the diagnosis. Follow responsible treatment. You can pray in the hospital. God is not absent from the hospital.

There are Christians who say, “I cannot take medicine because I have faith.” Beloved, where did the Bible teach that medicine automatically cancels faith? Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy 5:23, “Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.”

Whatever the historical medical context is, the important point is that Paul did not tell Timothy that acknowledging his recurring stomach problem demonstrated unbelief.

Isaiah 38:21 records concerning Hezekiah, “Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover.”

God had promised healing, yet a practical remedy was applied. Luke, one of Paul’s companions, was identified in Colossians 4:14 as “the beloved physician.” Scripture does not force us to choose between prayer and responsible care.

God can heal through different means. He can heal miraculously. He can heal gradually. He can use medication. He can even use surgery. He can use physicians, nurses, therapists, dietitians, rehabilitation, rest, changes in lifestyle, or other appropriate interventions.

The fact that treatment was involved does not mean God received less glory or doesn’t have power. If you prayed for provision and somebody gave you money, you still thanked God even though He used a person.

In the same way, if you prayed for healing and God used medical knowledge and treatment in your recovery, thank God.

Beloved, there is another error that must be corrected: do not condemn sick people by telling them that if they had enough faith they would already be healed. That kind of statement can add spiritual guilt to physical suffering.

Paul was a man of tremendous faith, yet he mentioned Trophimus in 2 Timothy 4:20 and said, “Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.” Epaphroditus was sick and nearly died according to Philippians 2:27, yet Paul did not accuse him of lacking faith.

Timothy had “often infirmities.” Job experienced severe physical suffering, and although his friends tried to explain his suffering through simplistic accusations, God eventually rebuked their approach.

When somebody is sick, that person needs prayer, encouragement, practical support, truth, and compassion. Do not turn somebody’s hospital bed into a courtroom where you judge the person’s faith.

There are people who have prayed sincerely and are still undergoing treatment. That doesn’t make bad Christians. There are people living faithfully with chronic illnesses. Do not make them believe that God has rejected them.

Your assignment is to pray for healing, continue to seek appropriate care, and continue to trust God, but remember that our relationship with God is not measured only by whether every physical problem disappears immediately.

Beloved, victory over sickness therefore begins with refusing hopelessness. A diagnosis is information; it is not permission to surrender your entire future to fear. When a doctor tells you what has been found, listen carefully.

Understand what it means. Ask about treatment. Ask about prognosis. Ask what changes are necessary. But do not spend every waking hour imagining the worst possible outcome.

Proverbs 17:22 says, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” This does not mean positive thinking cures every disease. It teaches us that the condition of the heart matters. Fear can exhaust a person. Guard your mind.

Some people receive a diagnosis and immediately begin searching endlessly on the internet. Within two hours they have read every worst-case scenario available online. They compare themselves with strangers online. They become convinced that every possible complication will happen to them.

Beloved, seek reliable information, but do not feed your life to fear. Your doctor knows your actual case better than a random frightening story on social media.

Another thing you must understand is that your words matter during sickness. This does not mean pretending everything is fine. It means refusing to make hopelessness your daily confession.

Speak faith without denying reality. Say, “I am trusting God as I receive treatment.” Say, “This diagnosis will not separate me from the love of God.” Say, “I will take one day at a time.” Say, “God will give me wisdom for every decision.”

Say, “I refuse to surrender my mind to fear.” Say, “Whether healing comes suddenly or recovery takes time, I will continue trusting God.”

Beloved, another important aspect of victory is prevention. Many Christians pray for healing but neglect the ordinary habits that help protect their health. You cannot continually abuse your body and then expect prayer to remove every consequence.

The victory keys to healing over sickness are: Quality rest, sleep, good nutrition, clean water, good hygiene. frequent exercise. medial check-ups, managing stress. Beloved, spirituality is not permission to neglect your body.

There are people who boast, “I sleep only three hours every day because I am working for God.” That may sound impressive until the body begins demanding what you refused to give it. Even Jesus rested.

Mark 6:31 records Him saying to His disciples, “Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while.”

There were many people coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. Jesus recognized the need for rest. You are not more spiritual than Jesus. If your body needs rest, rest.

Another issue is stress. Some people are carrying burdens their bodies were never designed to carry continuously. Financial worries, marital conflict, work pressure, caregiving, grief, unresolved anger, and constant anxiety can affect our well-being.

Prayer is important, but you must also learn healthy ways of handling pressure. Talk to trustworthy people. Establish boundaries. Rest when possible. Seek counselling when appropriate. Do not carry every burden silently until your body begins giving you alarming signs.

1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” There are things you need to cast upon God because worry cannot solve them.

Beloved, another important area is forgiveness and emotional health. I am not saying unforgiveness directly causes every disease; that would be irresponsible. But living continually in bitterness, anger, and hostility is not healthy spiritually or emotionally.

Ephesians 4:31 says, “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you.” Forgiveness does not mean allowing abuse to continue. It does not mean abandoning justice or necessary boundaries. It means refusing to allow hatred to become the permanent condition of your heart.

Victory over sickness also means refusing shame. Some people hide their illness because they are afraid their fellow believers will judge them. A pastor becomes sick and hides it because people may say, “How can a man of God be sick?”

A prayer warrior develops a health condition and becomes ashamed of himself. A believer is diagnosed with depression, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, fibroids, or another condition and begins wondering whether everybody will assume there is something spiritually wrong with them.

Beloved, sickness is not a certificate of spiritual failure. Your body can become sick while your faith remains strong. You can love God deeply and still require treatment.

You can be anointed and still need rest. You can pray for others and still ask others to pray for you.

James 5:14 says, “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him.” Notice that Scripture does not shame the sick person. It encourages the person to seek prayer.

There is nothing wrong with saying, “Please pray for me.” There is nothing wrong with saying, “I am receiving treatment.” There is nothing wrong with saying, “I need help.”

Beloved, there is also a financial side to sickness. Long-term illness can place pressure on families. Hospital bills, medication, transportation, tests, missed work, and caregiving can become expensive. This is where the church must become practical.

James 2:15–16 says, “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?”

Sometimes the answer to somebody’s prayer is your assistance.

Another danger is false prophets and exploitative healers who take advantage of sick people. Sickness can make people desperate, and desperation can make people vulnerable.

Somebody receives a frightening diagnosis, and suddenly a person tells them, “Bring this amount of money and I will guarantee your healing.”

Another says, “Stop your medication immediately because if you continue taking it you do not have faith.” Another claims, “If you do not pay for this special spiritual item, you will die.”

Beloved, be careful. Healing is God’s work; it is not merchandise. Peter told Simon in Acts 8:20, “Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.”

Giving to God’s work is biblical. Supporting ministry is biblical. But selling fear or guaranteed miracles to desperate people is another matter entirely. Do not allow fear of sickness to make you easy to manipulate.

Another thing you must avoid is setting dates for God. Some people say, “If I am not healed by Friday, it means God has rejected me.” Who told you that?

The three Hebrew men in Daniel 3 demonstrated a mature faith. They believed God could deliver them, but their obedience was not dependent on controlling the outcome. Their confidence was in God Himself. Beloved, faith is not controlling God. Faith is trusting God.

Another aspect of victory is learning how to live faithfully while recovery is taking place. Some conditions resolve quickly. Others require weeks, months, rehabilitation, repeated appointments, or long-term management before healing comes.

Mark 8 records Jesus healing a blind man in stages. After the first touch, the man said he saw men “as trees, walking.” Jesus touched him again, and his sight was restored clearly.

We should not turn that passage into a formula for every healing, but it reminds us not to despise a process simply because the result was not complete at the first moment.

Another truth we must not avoid is that physical healing is not the whole Christian hope. We should pray for healing. We should fight for life. We should seek medical treatment. We should believe God for recovery.

2 Corinthians 4:16 says, “Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”

Even people who receive miraculous healing eventually grow older unless Christ returns first. Therefore, our ultimate hope cannot be merely that we will never become sick or never die physically. Our ultimate hope is Jesus Christ and the resurrection.

Revelation 21:4 points toward the final victory: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.”

That is complete healing. That is where sickness finally ends forever. This truth should not make us passive about present illness. It should make us fearless. We pray for healing because life is precious.

We seek treatment because we want good life. We care for ourselves because stewardship matters. But our faith is bigger than our present physical condition.

Beloved, you can have victory even while you are waiting for complete recovery. Victory is refusing to allow sickness to destroy your relationship with God. Victory is refusing to allow diagnosis to become your identity.

Victory is taking your treatment faithfully rather than giving up. Victory is praying even when the answer appears delayed. Victory is asking for help when you need it.

Victory is refusing shame. Victory is maintaining hope. Victory is allowing your suffering to deepen compassion for other people. Victory is continuing to believe that your life has value even when your body is weak.

The sick person is still valuable. The person living with disability is still valuable. The person undergoing chemotherapy is still valuable. The person receiving dialysis is still valuable.

The person managing diabetes is still valuable. The person recovering from surgery is still valuable.

The person dealing with mental-health challenges is still valuable. Your value is not determined by the strength of your body. You bear the image of God.

Beloved, perhaps you are reading this devotional from a hospital bed. Perhaps somebody in your family is sick. Perhaps you have received a diagnosis you did not expect. Perhaps you have been praying about the same condition for years.

I will not tell you that I know exactly why it has happened. I will not tell you that your faith is weak. I will not tell you that somebody definitely attacked you. But I will tell you this: do not give up.

Beloved, do not make sickness your identity. You may be undergoing treatment, but you are more than your diagnosis. You may be experiencing pain, but your pain is not the total definition of your life. You may be taking medication, but that does not make you less spiritual.

You may be waiting for complete recovery, but God has not stopped being God because the process is taking time. Continue to declare with Jeremiah, “Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved.”

Let your confidence remain in God while your actions remain responsible. And if God has blessed you with good health, do not take it for granted. Take care of your body now.

If you use to fall ill, do not wait until another sickness comes before you begin to value rest, healthy habits, appropriate medical checks, proper nutrition, exercise suitable for you.

Above everything, remember that Jesus Christ remains our hope. We pray for healing because God is able. We believe for recovery because Scripture encourages us to pray for the sick. We resist fear because our lives are in God’s hands.

But our faith is not built merely upon receiving the outcome we want at the time we want it. Our faith is built upon Christ. Whether healing comes suddenly, gradually, through treatment, or we must continue trusting God through a long season of illness, we will not abandon Him.

Therefore, rise in faith today and say, “Sickness will not separate me from God. Fear will not control my mind. I will pray, I will take responsible action, I will receive appropriate help, and I will continue trusting the Lord. My body belongs to God, my life is in His hands, and I will not surrender my hope.”

Beloved, victory over sickness and disease begins when sickness no longer has the power to make you abandon your faith, reject wisdom, or surrender to hopelessness. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep receiving appropriate care.

Keep thanking God for every improvement in your body system. Keep supporting those who are sick. And keep your eyes upon Jesus Christ at all times.

May the Lord strengthen your body, renew your mind, guide every medical decision, provide every resource needed for treatment, give wisdom to those caring for you, and grant you healing and restoration according to His mercy, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen

Personal Challenge

Beloved, before you close this devotional today, do something practical. Take a moment and be honest with yourself about your own body.

If you have been ignoring a persistent symptom, a pain that keeps returning, a change in your body that you have been too busy or too afraid to check, make a decision today to book that medical appointment this week.

If you are presently battling sickness, write down three healing scriptures, meditate on them and declare them over your life daily. Continue praying, follow proper medical guidance and refuse to surrender your heart to fear.

At the same time, take authority in prayer over that same matter, speaking Isaiah 53:5 over your body by name, not generally but specifically, calling out the exact part of your body that needs God’s healing touch.

Let your faith and your responsibility move together today, prayer in one hand, proper action in the other, and watch how the works of God will be made manifest in your situation.

Wisdom for Today

A wise man does not fight a fire with only prayer while the water is standing beside him unused, he prays and he also reaches for the water, because God who sent the rain also expects a man to open his hand and receive it.

Prayer Focus: Victory Over Sickness and Disease

1. Father, I thank You for the gift of life and for waking me up this morning, in the name of Jesus.

2. Lord, I thank You for preserving my life and sustaining my body until this day, in the name of Jesus.

3. Father, I thank You for every sickness from which You have brought me through in the past, in the name of Jesus.

4. Lord, thank You for every improvement in my health, whether great or small, in the name of Jesus.

5. Father, thank You for doctors, nurses, caregivers, medicines, and every legitimate means You use to preserve my life, in the name of Jesus.

6. Lord, forgive me wherever I have knowingly neglected the proper care of my body, in the name of Jesus.

7. Father, give me wisdom to take better care of the body You have given me, in the name of Jesus.

8. Lord, strengthen every weak area of my body this morning, in the name of Jesus.

19. Father, bring relief wherever there is persistent pain in my body, in the name of Jesus.

20. O Lord, let every wound and injury in my body receive proper healing, in the name of Jesus.

21. Father, strengthen my immune system to perform its proper function, in the name of Jesus.

22. O Lord, grant recovery from every infection troubling my body, in the name of Jesus.

23. Father, give me strength where sickness has produced unusual weakness, in the name of Jesus.

24. Lord, restore healthy appetite where illness has affected my ability to eat, in the name of Jesus.

25. Father, restore peaceful sleep where sickness has disturbed my rest, in the name of Jesus.

26. Lord, give me strength to rise each morning with renewed hope, in the name of Jesus.

27. Father, let every treatment I am receiving produce the intended benefits, in the name of Jesus.

28. Lord, give wisdom to every doctor responsible for my care, in the name of Jesus.

29. Father, give wisdom to every nurse, therapist, pharmacist, and health professional attending to me, in the name of Jesus.
