EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: July 7, 2026 -Every Goliath Must Fall
Beloved, every Goliath is a representation of the stubborn opposition that stands against the purpose of God for your life. Goliath is not just a giant; he is a picture of every challenge that refuses to give way.
He represents every obstacle that rises repeatedly to intimidate, delay, and discourage God’s children. Sometimes, your Goliath may appear as a long-standing affliction.
It may be a battle that has lingered for years. It may be a persistent delay, a recurring disappointment, a closed door, fear, oppression, or any challenge that keeps standing between you and the promises of God.
Goliath’s assignment was simple: to stop Israel from advancing. In the same way, the enemy always seeks to hinder God’s people from making progress. He wants to keep you where you are so that you never become what God has ordained you to be. That is why you must never become comfortable with battles that God has given you the authority to overcome.
The Bible says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Notice that the devil does not flee because you are afraid of him. He flees when you stand upon the authority of God’s Word and resist him in faith.
Every believer has been given authority in Christ to stand against the works of darkness. There are battles that will not disappear simply because you ignore them. David did not pretend Goliath was not there. He confronted him in the name of the Lord.
There are moments when you must rise in faith, refuse intimidation, and declare that enough is enough. You must refuse to allow fear to dictate your future. Some battles end quickly, while others require perseverance.
There are victories God gives instantly, and there are victories that require persistent prayer, fasting unwavering faith, and obedience. Daniel prayed for twenty-one days before receiving his breakthrough. The widow in Jesus’ parable received justice because she refused to give up (Luke 18:1-8). Never mistake delay for denial.
Beloved, another thing you must understand is that every Goliath survives on fear. The day fear enters your heart, the giant becomes stronger in your eyes. Goliath was shouting every morning and every evening, not because he was unbeatable, but because he wanted Israel to believe they had already lost.
Fear has a way of making small problems look bigger than they really are. That is why the enemy likes to remind people of their past failures. He wants you to believe that because you failed before, you will fail again. But the God we serve is a God of new beginnings.
Your past defeats cannot cancel God’s future for your life. The same God who lifted Peter after his denial, restored Job after his suffering, and promoted Joseph after his imprisonment is able to change your story. You must also refuse to feed your Goliath with negative confessions.
Every time you say, “My situation can never change,” “I am finished,” or “There is no hope for me,” you are strengthening fear to dominate you instead of faith. David never spoke defeat. Before he fought Goliath, he declared, “This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand.”
His mouth agreed with God’s power, not with the giant’s of problems. You should also understand that not every battle is meant to destroy you. Some battles are designed to reveal the greatness God has placed inside you. Before Goliath appeared, David was known only by his family.
After Goliath fell, kings heard about him. The battle that looked like an obstacle became the platform for his elevation. Sometimes the challenge you are complaining about today is the very challenge God will use to introduce you to your next level.
Without Goliath, there would have been no public recognition and victory for David. Without the prison, there would have been no palace for Joseph. Without the lions’ den, Daniel’s God would not have been proclaimed throughout the kingdom.
One dangerous mistake believers make is trying to fight spiritual battles with human wisdom alone. David did not trust in Saul’s armour because he knew that victory comes from God.
Likewise, your confidence should not rest only in your education, your experience, your connections, or your resources. These things have their place, but your greatest confidence must always be in the Lord.
Never allow your giant to determine your future. Let God determine your future. The giant may say, “You cannot go forward,” but God says, “I know the thoughts that I think toward you… thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11). Whose report will you believe?
Beloved, another truth you must never forget is that every Goliath has a voice before it has power. Before Goliath ever lifted his sword against Israel, he first lifted his voice. Day after day, he spoke words of intimidation until the people accepted fear as their reality.
This is exactly how the enemy operates today. He begins by attacking your mind before he attacks your circumstances. If he can convince you that nothing will ever change, he has already weakened your faith. That is why you must carefully guard what you allow into your heart.
Do not meditate on words that produce fear. Meditate on the promises of God. Every day, feed your spirit with the Word until your faith becomes stronger than your fears. The Bible says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7).
What occupies your mind will eventually influence your decisions. Many believers lose battles in their imagination before they ever face them physically. They imagine failure. They imagine disappointment. They imagine rejection. They imagine defeat.
They keep expecting the worst because they have allowed fear to shape their thinking. But God wants His children to expect victory because He is the One fighting on their behalf. You will also discover that Goliath carefully chose the battlefield.
He stood in the Valley of Elah, a place that separated the armies of Israel from their inheritance. That is exactly what the enemy tries to do. He positions obstacles between you and the blessings God has prepared for you. He wants to convince you that your promised land is too far away or impossible to reach.
Perhaps your own Goliath is standing between you and your promotion. Perhaps it is standing between you and your marriage, your ministry, your business, your health, or your calling. Whatever it may be, remember that no obstacle has the final say over your destiny. God alone has the final word.
David understood something the soldiers did not understand. He realized that every battle belongs to God before it belongs to man. That is why he never spoke about how powerful Goliath was. Instead, he spoke about the greatness of the Lord.
The more you magnify God, the smaller your giant becomes. The more you magnify your giant, the smaller your faith becomes. Beloved, stop giving your giant unnecessary attention. Some people spend more time talking about their problems than talking to God.
Every testimony they share is about another disappointment. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging reality, but never allow your reality to become greater than God’s promises. The Psalmist declared, “O magnify the LORD with me” (Psalm 34:3).
Notice he did not say, “Magnify your problems.” He said, “Magnify the Lord.” Whatever you magnify will dominate your thinking. If you magnify your fears, they will control you. If you magnify God, your faith will rise. There is another lesson hidden in David’s story.
Before he ever fought Goliath, he had already developed a secret relationship with God. While everyone else saw only a shepherd, heaven saw a worshipper. While others slept, David spent time praising God in lonely places. While others looked for applause, David sought God’s presence.
The same Goliath that terrified thousands of soldiers became the stepping stone to David’s promotion. The enemy always magnifies your problems so that you will forget the greatness of your God. Fear causes people to focus on the size of their giants instead of the power of God.
But faith changes your perspective. Faith reminds you that no challenge is greater than God, no battle is beyond His power, and no giant can stand forever before His children.
Goliath was physically bigger than David, but he was not greater than David’s God. While everyone else focused on the giant’s strength, David focused on God’s faithfulness. He remembered how God delivered him from the lion and the bear and believed that the same God would give him victory again.
One reason many believers become discouraged is that they spend more time talking about their problems than talking about God’s promises. The bigger you make your problems in your mind, the smaller your faith becomes. But the bigger God becomes in your heart, the smaller your problems begin to appear.
Faith does not deny reality. Faith simply believes that God’s power is greater than every reality. There is another lesson hidden in David’s victory. After Goliath fell, David used Goliath’s own sword to cut off his head. The very weapon that Goliath trusted became the instrument of his defeat.
This reminds us that God has the power to turn the plans of the wicked against them. The trap they prepare for you can become their own downfall. The lies they spread may become the reason God promotes you, and the rejection you experience today may become the door to a greater opportunity tomorrow.
Your giant may have been standing for many years, but one encounter with God can change everything. Whatever your Goliath represents today, be encouraged: giants do not live forever. They may threaten you, delay you, or intimidate you for a season, but they cannot stop the purpose of God for your life.
The same God who gave David victory is still giving victory to everyone who trusts Him completely. Your battle will not end in defeat, it will end in testimony. Many believers want David’s public victory, but they are unwilling to cultivate David’s private devotion.
They want the crown without the wilderness. They want promotion without preparation. They want authority without intimacy with God. Yet spiritual authority is born in the secret place. Beloved, another danger you must avoid is allowing previous victories to make you spiritually careless.
After one breakthrough, some believers become relaxed in prayer. They reduce their dependence upon God because they feel the battle is over, but spiritual vigilance must continue. David defeated Goliath, yet he still depended upon God throughout his life. Every victory should increase your gratitude and your dependence upon the Lord.
There are also believers who become discouraged because their battles seem different from everyone else’s. They ask, “Why is my own challenge lasting this long?” Remember that God does not write every testimony in the same way. Some miracles happen instantly, while others happen progressively.
Jesus healed one blind man immediately, while another received his sight gradually (Mark 8:22-25). The method may differ, but God’s power remains the same. Do not become impatient with God’s process. If He chooses to work gradually in your life, trust His wisdom.
Every delay has a purpose when God is in control. The farmer does not harvest immediately after planting; he waits because he understands the process of growth. Another lesson from David is that he remained humble after his victory. He did not boast that he had defeated Goliath by his own strength; he gave glory to God.
Pride has destroyed many people after victory. They begin to think they no longer need prayer, counsel, or dependence upon God. Never forget the One who gave you victory.
The giant before you may appear strong today, but it is not stronger than the God who fights for you. The mountain may appear high, but God is higher. The battle may seem fierce, but the victory has already been secured through Christ. Lift up your head, child of God.
Your Goliath has not come to destroy you; it has come to reveal the greatness of your God. Stay faithful. Stay courageous. Stay prayerful. The day is coming when you will stand where David stood, look back at the battlefield, and declare with confidence, “The Lord has done great things for me.” And when that day comes, all the glory shall belong to God alone.
The challenge you are facing today may be the very thing God will use to announce you to the world. Do not run away from the battle God has permitted in your life. Every battle has a purpose. James tells us that the testing of our faith produces patience (James 1:3).
Every challenge develops our spiritual maturity, perseverance, courage, and dependence on God. The giant is not only revealing your weakness; it is also revealing God’s strength. David also teaches us the importance of preparation. Before facing Goliath, he had already defeated a lion and a bear while protecting his father’s sheep (1 Samuel 17:34-37).
Those private victories prepared him for a public victory. Many people desire public success but ignore private preparation. God often trains His children in secret before promoting them openly. But God specializes in removing what man calls impossible.
When Israel stood before the Red Sea, it looked like there was no way forward. When Joshua stood before the River Jordan, it looked impossible to cross. When Lazarus had been in the grave for four days, everyone believed the situation was over. Yet in every case, God made a way where there seemed to be none.
The God who removed impossible obstacles in the past is still removing them today. Do not become comfortable with your Goliath. Some people have lived with problems for so long that they have accepted them as normal. They have stopped praying about them because they believe nothing can change.
Israel had listened to Goliath’s threats for forty days until fear became their normal state. David refused to accept what everyone else had accepted. As a child of God, never accept what God has not permitted. Do not accept defeat when God has promised victory.
Do not accept bondage when Christ has purchased your freedom. Do not accept hopelessness when God has promised a future and a hope. Stand upon God’s promises until you see their manifestation. It is also important to understand that God sometimes allows a Goliath because He wants to reveal His glory.
If there had been no giant, there would have been no famous victory for David. The battle that looked like a disaster became the event that announced God’s power to an entire nation. The Lord often uses difficult situations to reveal His greatness. When He delivered Daniel from the lions’ den, kings acknowledged His power.
When He delivered the three Hebrew boys from the fiery furnace, Nebuchadnezzar glorified the God of heaven. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, many believed in Him. Your present battle may become the testimony that leads many people to trust in God.
Never despise your present season. The prayers you are praying today, the lessons you are learning, the tears you are shedding, and the small victories you are winning are preparing you for greater assignments tomorrow. Another remarkable truth is that David did not wear Saul’s armour.
Saul wanted David to fight using someone else’s equipment, but David realized that what worked for another person was not necessarily what God had prepared for him (1 Samuel 17:38-39). In the same way, you must not fight your battles by comparing yourself with others.
God has given every believer different gifts, different experiences, and different assignments. Some people lose battles because they spend too much time trying to become someone else. God did not create you to imitate another person’s calling. He wants you to discover the gifts He has placed within you and use them for His glory.
David boldly declared, “The battle is the LORD’S” (1 Samuel 17:47). That statement changes everything. When the battle belongs to God, victory does not depend on your strength alone.
It depends on the One who has never lost a battle. You may be standing before a financial Goliath, a marital Goliath, a health Goliath, a career Goliath, or a family Goliath.
Whatever your giant may be, remember this: giants may be big, but God is greater. The One who created heaven and earth is able to bring down every mountain that stands before you. Never measure your future by the size of your problem. Measure your problem by the greatness of your God.
Finally, never forget to give God the glory when your Goliath falls. David never took credit for his victory. He knew it was the Lord who delivered him. When God gives you victory over that battle, remain humble. Let your testimony point people to Christ and not to yourself. The purpose of every miracle is to glorify God.
The bigger the giant, the greater the testimony God is preparing to give you. When your Goliath falls, people will know that it was not by your power or wisdom, but by the mighty hand of God working in your life. Your giant has an expiration date. Your battle has an appointed end. Your testimony is on the way. Hold on to God, for every Goliath must fall.
How then do you bring down the Goliaths in your life?
First, know who you are in Christ. David did not see himself as an ordinary shepherd boy. He knew he was a covenant child of God. Your identity is not determined by your background, your family name, your bank account, or your present condition. Through Jesus Christ, you are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37). When you understand who you are in Christ, fear begins to lose its hold over you.
Secondly, build your life on the Word of God. Faith does not grow by listening to fear; it grows by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). The more you meditate on God’s promises, the less intimidating your Goliath becomes. A believer who is full of the Word will not easily be shaken by the threats of the enemy.
Thirdly, develop a lifestyle of prayer. David did not suddenly become a man of faith on the battlefield. His relationship with God had already been established in the lonely fields where he watched his father’s sheep. Public victories are usually the result of private fellowship with God. If you want to overcome great battles, you must first become strong in the place of prayer.
Fourthly, refuse to surrender to fear. Fear is one of the enemy’s greatest weapons. It makes people believe they are defeated before the battle even begins. But God repeatedly says in His Word, “Fear not.” Every time fear knocks at your door, answer it with faith. Every time doubt whispers to your heart, answer it with God’s promises.
Another important step is to remain obedient to God. Many people want victory without obedience. Yet God’s power flows through lives that are surrendered to Him. Obedience positions you for divine intervention. When you walk according to God’s will, you can stand confidently knowing that He is fighting your battles.
Whatever your Goliath may be today, do not bow before it. Do not run from it. Face it with confidence in the Lord. The God who gave David victory has not changed. He is still the Mighty Man of War. He still fights for His children. He still specializes in impossible situations.
Therefore, lift up your head, strengthen your faith, and refuse to be intimidated. The giant standing before you today is not greater than the God who stands with you. Trust Him, obey Him, and continue moving forward. Your Goliath shall fall, your testimony shall arise, and your victory shall bring glory to the name of the Lord.
Prophetic Declaration
I decree that every Goliath standing against your destiny shall fall by the power of God, in the mighty name of Jesus. Every mountain before your progress shall be removed, every voice of fear shall be silenced, and every impossible situation shall turn into a testimony. The Lord shall strengthen your hands for victory, fight your battles, and establish you in every area of your life. You shall not be defeated; you shall overcome and celebrate the goodness of God. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
Wisdom for Today

Personal Encouragement
Hold on to the Lord with all your heart. In His perfect time, the battle that brought you tears will become the testimony that brings Him glory. Your victory is closer than you think.
