Reasons the Spirit Spouse Has Not Left You

Opening Scriptures

Hosea 4:6,

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”

EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: September 1, 2026 – Reasons the Spirit Spouse Has Not Left You

A spirit spouse is a demon that has taken the position of a husband or a wife over a person’s life in the spirit realm.

It is a marriage covenant made in the dream world, sometimes without the person’s conscious agreement, sometimes through an agreement the person’s ancestors made long before that person was born.

The Bible calls it whoredom of the spirit in Hosea chapter four, a covenant of harlotry that stands where the covenant of Christ ought to stand.

This spirit will visit a person in the night, touch that person, have relations with that person, quarrel with that person, and behave exactly like a jealous natural husband or wife behaves.

That is what a spirit spouse is. Now let us ask the question many people are afraid to ask: why has this thing not left you, even after you have prayed, fasted, and gone from one deliverance ground to another?

The first reason is that the covenant was never renounced by mouth. Many people pray against the spirit spouse, but they never open their mouth and formally break the marriage covenant. In the spirit realm, marriage is legal until it is dissolved by a legal act.

You cannot fight a legal document with tears alone; you must tear the document. Numbers 30:2 says when a man vows a vow unto the Lord, he shall not break his word. The devil knows this law and he uses it against you.

If you married him in the dream and you have not verbally renounced that marriage before God, the marriage still stands in his court, and he will hold you to it.

The second reason is generational inheritance. Some of you did not marry the spirit spouse; your grandmother married him, or your great-grandfather dedicated the family line to a river goddess or a forest spirit, and that covenant has been passed down like a family property.

Exodus 20:5 speaks of the iniquity of the fathers visiting the children. I remember a woman who came to our ministry years ago. Every man that came close to her marriage proposal would either die suddenly or run away without explanation.

When we sat her down and asked about her background, she said her grandmother was given to a river deity in their village before she was even born, as a covenant for prosperity.

That woman was not fighting her own battle; she was fighting a battle that started before she was born.

Until we broke that ancestral marriage by the blood of Jesus, nothing moved. This is the reality for many who wonder why the spirit spouse refuses to leave.

The third reason is soul ties that were never severed. Every dream encounter, every night visitation, every strange romantic dream leaves behind an attachment, what the Bible calls one flesh in the spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:16 says he that is joined to a harlot is one body, for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. Prayer without the specific cutting of soul ties leaves the door open, because the union itself is still standing even after the fighting stops.

The fourth reason is unrepented sin giving legal ground. Ephesians 4:27 says neither give place to the devil. Bitterness, unforgiveness, sexual sin, involvement in occult practices, idol worship in the family line, all of these give legal ground for a spirit spouse to remain.

You cannot ask God to remove a tenant while you are still signing his rent agreement through sin.

The fifth reason is fear and enjoyment of the relationship. This one is hard for many to accept, but it is true. Some people, without knowing it, have grown comfortable with the visitations.

The dream visits feel pleasurable to the flesh, or the spirit spouse provides some form of financial ease, protection, or attention that the person is not receiving in the natural.

Judges 16 shows Samson going back again and again to Delilah even after he knew what she was doing to him. A door held open by attachment will not close by casual prayer; it needs deliverance and a decision of the will.

The sixth reason is lack of aggressive, targeted, specific prayer. General prayer will not move a specific spirit. You cannot pray “Lord bless me” and expect a spirit husband who has occupied your womb, your dreams, and your relationships for twenty years to pack his things and go.

Matthew 17:21 tells us this kind goes not out but by prayer and fasting. It requires violent, specific, addressed prayer, prayer that calls out the spirit by its function, breaks its legal ground, and commands it out in the name of Jesus Christ.

The seventh reason is that the deliverance was done without full confession. Many people go for prayer and stand before the minister quiet about the details, ashamed to say what actually happened in the dream, ashamed to name the sin that opened the door.

Proverbs 28:13 says he that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

A doctor cannot treat a sickness the patient refuses to describe. In the same way, a minister cannot pull down a covenant the person is too ashamed to expose.

I have sat with women who told me everything except the one incident that mattered, and the spirit kept returning until that one incident was finally confessed and renounced.

The eighth reason is idolatry still standing somewhere in the family compound. Many people pray in the city while an idol, a shrine, or a family altar still stands untouched in the village.

Deuteronomy 7:5 commands, ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.

As long as that physical altar stands and is still being fed by relatives, the spirit has a legal address to return to, no matter how far the person runs.

The ninth reason is that the fast was broken by disobedience or compromise. Some people begin a deliverance fast with strength but abandon it midway, or they fast with their mouth while still consuming what the spirit spouse gave them access to, whether in sleep or otherwise.

Matthew 4:1-2 shows that Jesus was led by the Spirit to fast fully before He confronted the tempter. Half a fight does not close a full covenant.

The tenth reason is wrong counsel and fake deliverance ministers. Many desperate people have gone from one so called prophet to another, and some of these men are themselves agents working for the same kingdom they claim to fight.

Matthew 7:15 warns, beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. A wound cannot be healed by the same hand that caused it.

The eleventh reason is refusal to change the pattern of life that gave access in the first place. If a person opened the door through occult involvement, through a particular friendship, through a particular film, book, or practice, and after prayer that same pattern of life continues, the door remains functional.

James 4:7 says submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Submission means a changed walk, not just a loud prayer session.

The twelfth reason is that the person’s water covenant has not been dealt with. Many spirit spouse cases in Africa trace back to a river, a lake, or a sea.

Some families made covenants with water spirits for wealth, for fame, or for children, generations back, and the spirit spouse is simply the marriage clause of that larger water covenant.

Psalm 74:13 says thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. Any covenant made in water must be broken by a power stronger than water, and that power is the blood of Jesus.

The thirteenth reason is timing that has not yet been fully surrendered to God. Some people fight the spirit spouse but are still bargaining with God about what they want to keep, what habit they are not ready to release, what relationship they are not ready to let go of.

Luke 9:62 says no man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Partial surrender produces partial deliverance.

The fourteenth reason is lack of a Spirit filled prayer life after deliverance. Deliverance is not the end; it is the beginning.

Matthew 12:43-45 tells us that when the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places seeking rest, and if he finds the house empty, swept, and garnished, he goes and takes seven other spirits worse than himself.

An empty house, delivered but not filled with the Word and the Holy Ghost, invites the same spirit back with reinforcement.

The fifteenth reason is that the person has not yet decided, in their heart, to fully belong to Christ alone. This is the root of everything already listed.

2 Corinthians 11:2 says I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

A spirit spouse cannot hold a soul that has truly, completely, and permanently given itself in marriage to Jesus Christ.

Every other reason listed above is simply a crack through which the enemy still finds entrance, because the full transfer of ownership has not yet taken place in that person’s heart.

In Conclusion (The Way Out)

The spirit spouse has not left because there is still a legal document standing, whether by covenant, inheritance, soul tie, sin, attachment, or weak prayer.

The blood of Jesus Christ cancels every legal document written against a man or woman in the spirit realm. Colossians 2:14 says He blotted out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross.

Prophetic Declaration

I declare that every marriage covenant contracted against you in the dream world is broken now by the blood of Jesus Christ. Every ancestral altar working against your marriage catches fire today. You are loosed, in the name of Jesus.

Prayer Assignment

1. I renounce every marriage covenant with a spirit spouse, in the name of Jesus.

2. Every ancestral marriage covenant working in my life, break, in the name of Jesus.

3. Blood of Jesus, wipe off every mark of spirit marriage from my body, in the name of Jesus.

4. Every soul tie between me and a spirit spouse, break by fire, in the name of Jesus.

5.Every legal ground given by my sin, be revoked by the blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.

6. Spirit spouse assigned to my life, hear the word of the Lord, I divorce you today, in the name of Jesus.

7. Every altar of covenant marriage raised against my destiny, be roasted by fire, in the name of Jesus.

8. Every gift, ring, or object given to me in the dream by a spirit spouse, catch fire, in the name of Jesus.

9. I receive deliverance and freedom to marry according to God’s will, in the name of Jesus.

10. Holy Ghost fire, purge my dream life of every spirit visitor, in the name of Jesus.

11. I take authority over every spirit spouse assigned to disturb my night, in the name of Jesus.

12. Every agreement my ancestors signed with water spirits over my marital destiny, I cancel you by the blood of Jesus.

13. Every altar in my father’s house or my mother’s house working against my marriage, be scattered by fire, in the name of Jesus.

14. Anointing to expose every hidden covenant working against my life, fall upon me, in the name of Jesus.

15. I confess and renounce every dream encounter I have had with a spirit husband or spirit wife, in the name of Jesus.

16. Every deposit of the spirit spouse in my body, be flushed out by the blood of Jesus.

17. I command every satanic ring, cloth, or object placed on me in the dream to be removed by fire, in the name of Jesus.

18. Every gate in my life that gave the spirit spouse access, be shut permanently by the blood of Jesus.

19. Every friendship or relationship serving as an agent of the spirit spouse, be exposed and removed, in the name of Jesus.

20. I nullify every marriage certificate written against me in the spirit realm, in the name of Jesus.

21. Every satanic wedding ceremony conducted over my life in the dream, be reversed, in the name of Jesus.

22. Water spirit husband, water spirit wife, hear the word of the Lord, I am not your candidate, in the name of Jesus.

23. Every child spiritually conceived through the spirit spouse in the dream, be aborted by fire, in the name of Jesus.

24. I withdraw my name, my picture, and my destiny from every satanic marriage register, in the name of Jesus.

26. Every power assigned to monitor my marital progress in the spirit, be paralyzed, in the name of Jesus.

28. Every witchcraft covenant of celibacy or delay forced upon me by a spirit spouse, break now, in the name of Jesus.

29. I receive the mind of Christ to identify and reject every further spirit visitor, in the name of Jesus.

30. From today, I am married to Christ alone; every rival covenant is terminated, in the name of Jesus.

31. I declare that no weapon fashioned against me today shall prosper, in the name of Jesus.

32. Father, restore anything the enemy has stolen from me through this covenant, in the name of Jesus.

33. Every hindrance to my breakthrough today, be removed by fire, in the name of Jesus.

34. Every yoke the spirit spouse tried to place on me this morning, break now, in the name of Jesus.

35. I command my body to reject every satanic deposit from last night’s dream, in the name of Jesus.

36. Every trap set along my path today, be exposed before I reach it, in the name of Jesus.

37. Father, let Your angel go before me and fight every battle on my behalf today, in the name of Jesus.

38. I reject every negative report the enemy planned to release into my day, in the name of Jesus.

39. Father, let Your angel go before me and fight every battle on my behalf today, in the name of Jesus.

40. I decree that today, my marital destiny must move forward by fire, in the name of Jesus.

41. Every spirit spouse assigned from my mother’s side, loose me and go, in the name of Jesus.

42. Every spirit spouse assigned from my father’s side, loose me and go, in the name of Jesus.

43. Every satanic wedding photograph or record kept against me in the spirit realm, be burnt to ashes, in the name of Jesus.

44. I command every spirit spouse hiding under the cover of a familiar face to be exposed, in the name of Jesus.

45. Every power monitoring my relationships to scatter them on behalf of a spirit spouse, be blinded, in the name of Jesus.

46. I reject every dream where I am given food, drink, or a gift by a spirit spouse, in the name of Jesus.

47. Every organ of my body dedicated to a spirit spouse in the dream, I recover you by fire, in the name of Jesus.

48. Every spirit spouse operating through masquerade, idol, or river shrine over my life, be roasted, in the name of Jesus.

49. I command the ground that carries any covenant of spirit marriage over my life to reject that covenant, in the name of Jesus.

50. Every long-standing marital delay traced to a spirit spouse, be terminated today, in the name of Jesus.

51. I silence every voice of a spirit husband or spirit wife calling my name at night, in the name of Jesus.

52. Every hold of a spirit spouse over my finances, be broken, in the name of Jesus.

53. I recover every glory, virtue, and blessing stolen from me through spirit marriage, in the name of Jesus.

54. Every gate of my life the spirit spouse used to enter, be shut with the blood of Jesus forever.

55. Father, let this be the day of my final and total divorce from every spirit spouse, in the name of Jesus.

Prayer Assignment Night

31. Every night visitor assigned to my dream, you are not welcome, be roasted by fire, in the name of Jesus.

32. I command my spirit man to be alert and resistant to every satanic approach tonight, in the name of Jesus.

33. Holy Ghost fire, surround my bed as a wall of protection tonight, in the name of Jesus.

34. Every spirit husband parading himself as my earthly husband, I divorce you today, in the name of Jesus.

Closing Reflection
Whatever has held on to you did not come to stay forever. It came because a door was opened, and any door opened by covenant can be shut by the blood of Jesus Christ. Go and be free.
