EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: June 26, 2026 – Count Your Blessings

One of the greatest secrets to a joyful and victorious Christian life is learning how to count your blessings. Unfortunately, many people have become so focused on what they do not have that they fail to appreciate what God has already done for them.

They spend their time thinking about unanswered prayers, delayed expectations, and unfulfilled desires, while overlooking the countless blessings that surround them every day. Many people have developed the habit of counting their problems instead of counting their blessings.

They can easily remember every disappointment, every delay, every break up, and every difficult situation but they forget to remember or appreciate what God has done for them. It is easy to thank God when everything is going well. It is easy to praise Him when prayers are answered quickly.

It is easy to appreciate God for the favour. However, true gratitude goes beyond favorable circumstances. It is the ability to recognize God’s faithfulness in your life. A thankful heart sees reasons to praise God more where others see reasons to complain.

The enemy wants believers to focus on what is missing, the enemy wants believers to complain more but God wants His children to remember what He has already provided. When you learn to count your blessings, your perspective changes immediately. You will understand the need to look back and see what the Lord has done for you.

There are many things we enjoy from God’s benevolence, but we often take them for granted. At a point when David seemed to be forgetful of the goodness of the Lord in his life, he decided to preach to his soul, according to the Bible reading of today.

Psalm 103:1-5 (KJV)

“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Many people underestimate or familiarize with the blessings they already possessed. We take the gift of life, good health, divine protection, family, friends, daily provision, and salvation for granted. There are countless of people around the world praying to have these things.

There are countless blessings we receive every day from the benevolence of God, yet many of them pass unnoticed because they have become part of our daily routine. We wake up every morning and assume it is normal. We breathe without thinking it is a big blessing.

We eat our meals, go to work, return home safely, sleep peacefully, and repeat the same cycle the next day. Because these blessings happen in our life regularly, we often forget that they are gifts from God and not as a result of our achievements.

When you wake up from sleep each morning, thank God. There are people who slept the previous night but never woke up. If you are enjoying good health today, thank God. There are many people lying in hospital beds who are praying to enjoy the good health you are enjoying.

There are many people who are in prison today who are praying to enjoy the freedom we are enjoying today. There are people who are in one situation or the other. If someone recommended you for a promotion, appreciate God for using that person as an instrument of blessing.

Human beings may become channels, but God remains the only Source of our blessing. If you planted a seed and harvested good fruits, thank God. Do not praise your intelligence alone. The farmer may plant and water, but it is God who causes the seed to grow.

If life is going well for you, thank God wholeheartedly. If you are passing through a difficult season, thank Him also, because His faithfulness is not measured by your present circumstances. The Bible says that in everything we should give thanks to God.

Thanksgiving is not reserved only for days of celebration. It is a lifestyle that recognizes God’s goodness in every season of our life. One of the greatest mistakes believers make is waiting for one big miracle to happen before they begin to appreciate God.

They tell themselves, “When I build my house, I will thank God. When I get married, I will thank Him. When I buy a car, I will organize a thanksgiving service.” Meanwhile, they ignore the daily miracles that make those future blessings possible.

The God who will give you a house is the same God who has been preserving your life. The God who will bless your business is the same God who has been sustaining you every single day. The Bible gives us beautiful examples of people who recognized God’s goodness in their life.

David constantly counted his blessings and refused to forget God’s benefits. He reminded himself that God forgave his sins, healed his diseases, redeemed his life from destruction, crowned him with lovingkindness, and satisfied him with good things. David understood that gratitude keeps the heart connected to God.

Abraham also recognized God’s faithfulness in his life. Every time God fulfilled His promises, Abraham responded with worship. He built altars, offered quality sacrifices, and publicly acknowledged that every blessing came from the Lord. He never saw God’s blessings as the product of his own ability.

The story of the ten lepers teaches another powerful lesson. Jesus healed all ten of them, but only one returned to thank Him. The Lord asked, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?” The miracle was the same for all of them, but only one understood the importance of gratitude.

Thanksgiving distinguished him from others. When you learn to appreciate God, you position yourself for greater blessings. The old hymn says, “Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”

There is great wisdom in those words. When you deliberately begin to count your blessings, you will discover that God has done far more than enough for you. You will remember the prayers He has nswered, the dangers He prevented, the battles He has fought, the opportunities He has created, and the doors He has opened without your knowledge.

Counting your blessings means recognizing God as the Source of every good thing in your life. It is an acknowledgment that your success is not merely the result of your intelligence, your connections, or your hard work. It is admitting that if the Lord had not been on your side, many of the things you now enjoy would not have been possible.

Take a moment one day and calculate your monthly expenses. Compare everything you spent with your regular income. Many believers will discover that what sustained them throughout the month cannot be explained by their salary alone.

Our God is a faithful Provider. He knows our needs before we ask Him. He provides for us in seasons of abundance and in seasons of scarcity. He sends help through people. Many of the miracles we enjoy every day are prayers we never even prayed. You did not pray every morning for your heart to keep beating.

You did not pray every morning for the air or breeze to keep blowing to you. Yet His mercy continues to sustain you. Beloved, do not wait until someone reminds you to appreciate God. Make thanksgiving a daily habit in your life. Let gratitude become part of your lifestyle.

The believer who continually remembers God’s goodness will never lack reasons to praise Him. When you count your blessings, your faith grows stronger, your heart becomes more joyful, and your confidence in God’s future provision increases. A grateful heart always sees God’s hand, even in seasons when others can only see problems.

Another reason believers should cultivate a lifestyle of thanksgiving is because gratitude keeps the heart humble before God. Pride begins when people forget where their blessings came from. After experiencing success, some begin to believe that everything they have achieved is the result of their own wisdom, education, strength, or hard work.

But they forget that many people possess the same qualifications, work hard, and yet have not experienced the same level of favour you are receiving from God. The difference is the mercy of God. There are people who are more educated than you but are still searching for employment.

There are business owners who invested more money than you but lost everything. There are people with better connections who are still struggling to make progress. If your efforts have produced results, never allow success to make you forget God. Every achievement should become another reason to glorify Him.

Many of God’s greatest miracles are the ones we never notice. Imagine a parent watching over a child throughout the night. The child sleeps peacefully and wakes up refreshed, completely unaware of everything the parent did to protect him over night.

That is how many of us live every day. God watches over us, fights the battles we cannot see, frustrates the plans of the enemy, and keeps us safe while we continue with our daily activities. Because we do not witness those unseen battles, we often fail to appreciate His constant protection.

Thanksgiving also changes the atmosphere around a believer. A person who continually complains will eventually become discouraged one day. Complaints magnify problems until they appear bigger than God in our heart. Gratitude reminds us that the God who has helped us before and appreciating for the blessing of today.

This is why mature believers do not wait for perfect conditions before praising God. They do not wait for someone to buy them gifts before they are happy in life. They know that God will remain faithful in our life. There is another blessing that comes from thanksgiving, it helps us recognize the value of little beginnings.

Many people miss the joy of today’s blessings because they are looking only at tomorrow’s expectations. They celebrate only the finished building and forget to thank God for the foundation. They celebrate the harvest but overlook the seed. They rejoice over the destination but forget the journey.

God often begins His greatest works in small ways. A small opportunity can become a great business. A simple introduction can become a lifelong relationship. A single phone call can change the direction of a person’s destiny. A little act of obedience can open doors that years of struggle could not open.

When you thank God for small beginnings, you demonstrate that your faith is not dependent on the size of the blessing. As believers, we must also teach our families to appreciate God more. Children should learn that every meal on the table is a gift from God.

They should learn to thank Him before asking for more. Homes where gratitude is practiced become homes where faith grows. Families that acknowledge God together develop a deeper awareness of His presence and faithfulness. Make it a habit to pause occasionally and reflect on your journey.

Remember where God brought you from. Think about the battles you survived, the disappointments you overcame, the sickness He has removed, and the countless times He has carried you through that difficult moments. When you honestly examine your life, you will discover that God’s goodness has followed you more than you realized.

A grateful believer is never poor in praising God because every day of his life provides another reason to thank God. Whether the blessing is visible or hidden, great or small, expected or unexpected, let your heart continually acknowledge the One from whom every good and perfect gift comes.

Many times, God is arranging things that you cannot yet see. While you are sleeping, He is working. While you are praying, He is releasing the keys. While you are waiting, He is preparing people, opportunities, and removing obstacles from your path.

Although your eyes may not yet see the evidence, heaven is already at work on your behalf. This is why a wise believer continues to thank God even during seasons of complain Thanksgiving also reminds us that we are completely dependent on God.

No matter how successful a person becomes, there will always be things that only God can do. You cannot command your heart to beat for another day. You cannot guarantee the air you breathe tomorrow. You cannot preserve yourself from every danger on the road.

You cannot command the water to part away. You cannot control the future. Every new day is a gift from God, and every gift deserves appreciation. One of the greatest proofs of God’s goodness is His consistency.  Every morning He gives us another opportunity to live, to repent, to work, to love, to serve Him, and to fulfill our purpose.

That alone is a blessing beyond measure. Beloved, never become so busy pursuing the next blessing that you forget to appreciate the One who gave you the previous one. Many people spend all their time asking God for more, yet they rarely pause to say, “Father, thank You for how far You have brought me.”

They quickly move from one request to another without celebrating God’s faithfulness. Learn to celebrate every testimony, no matter how small it appears. Thank God for keeping you alive. Thank Him when He gives you strength to overcome temptation.

Thank Him for protecting your children. Thank Him for granting you wisdom to solve a difficult problem. Thank Him for bringing peace into your home. Thank Him for giving you another opportunity after you have failed. Every act of gratitude honors God and keeps your heart connected to Him.

There are blessings that money cannot buy. A peaceful mind cannot be purchased in the marketplace. A loving family cannot simply be ordered with wealth. Good health is more valuable than expensive possessions in this world.

A clear conscience is worth more than riches obtained through dishonest and illegal means. These are treasures that only God can give and preserve. If God has given you peace while others are living in confusion, count it as a blessing.

If your children are growing in the fear of God, count it as a blessing. If your family sleeps and wakes up safely, count it as a blessing. If you are still going to church, count it as a blessing. If you still have hope despite the battles you are facing today, count it as a blessing.

These are gifts that many people desire but have not yet received. When thanksgiving becomes your lifestyle, you will discover that your joy no longer depends on circumstances alone. Your confidence will rest in God’s unchanging faithfulness.

You will remember that the God who has carried you through yesterday will not abandon you tomorrow. Every blessing you count today becomes another reminder that the Lord has been faithful, and the God who has been faithful in the past will remain faithful in the days ahead.

There is another important reason God wants His children to count their blessings. Thanksgiving keeps the heart free from envy. Many people become unhappy because they spend too much time looking at the lives of others. They celebrate other people’s achievements more than they appreciate their own journey.

They see someone buying a new house, getting married, traveling abroad, receiving promotion, or starting a successful business, and immediately begin to question why God has not done the same for them. The danger of this attitude is that it blinds people to the unique work God is doing in their own lives.

God does not write the same story for everyone. Every believer has a different assignment, a different journey, and a different timing. The fact that someone arrived before you does not mean you have been forgotten. God is never late.

He knows the best time to release every blessing. A grateful person celebrates the success of others without becoming discouraged. He understands that another person’s testimony is not proof that God has abandoned him. If God has blessed your neighbor, it simply means that God is still in the business of blessing His children.

Your own testimony will come at the appointed time. Thanksgiving also teaches patience. It reminds us that life is built in stages. There was a time when you prayed for the things you now have. There was a time when you asked God for the job you currently complain about.

There was a time when you desired the family you now take for granted. There was a time when you prayed just to have enough food for the day. Looking back helps us realize that many of yesterday’s prayers have already become today’s testimonies.

Sometimes we become so occupied with our next request that we forget that we are already living in answered prayers. If you honestly compare where you are today with where you used to be, you will discover that God has been walking with you all along.

The progress may not have happened as quickly as you expected, but it happened because God remained faithful in your life. Gratitude also prepares the heart for greater responsibility. God delights in people who appreciate what He places in their hands.

A person who values little things is usually prepared to handle greater things. This principle is seen throughout the Scriptures.  Faithfulness and appreciation often precede increase. Do not become the kind of believer who only remembers God during emergencies.

Build a relationship with Him that is filled with thanksgiving. Let praise become part of your daily conversation with God. Thank Him before asking. Thank Him after receiving. Thank Him during your waiting seasons. Thank Him when you understand His ways, and thank Him even when His plans are beyond your understanding.

One day, when you look back over your entire life, you will realize that many of the greatest blessings were not the things you asked God to give you. God’s goodness is far greater than what our eyes can see now.

His faithfulness extends beyond what we can measure. Therefore, make it your daily habit to count your blessings. Name them one by one. As you do, your heart will overflow with gratitude, your faith will become stronger, and your confidence in God’s unfailing love will continue to grow.

Prophetic Declaration

I prophesy over your life today that your season of mourning shall turn into a season of rejoicing, in the name of Jesus. Every blessing that God has ordained for you this year shall not pass you by.

May the Lord open your eyes to recognize His goodness and faithfulness in every area of your life. From today, you will no longer focus on what you have lost but on what God is about to restore.

I decree that every hidden blessing assigned to your life shall manifest speedily. Where men have said there is nothing good, God shall surprise you with uncommon testimonies.

Personal Challenge

For the next seven days, begin and end each day by thanking God for at least 20 specific blessings in your life. Do not ask Him for anything else during those few moments.

Also, make it a habit to thank people who have been a blessing to you, no matter how small their contribution may seem to you. A grateful heart honors both God and people.

As you intentionally count your blessings instead of your burdens, watch how your perspective changes, your faith will grow stronger, and your heart will be filled with peace and joy. Gratitude will not only change your attitude, it will prepare you for greater blessings ahead.

Key Lessons for Today

  • Every day is a gift from God; never take the gift of life for granted.
  • Gratitude is not based on what you have, but on recognizing God’s faithfulness in every season.
  • Do not focus so much on your unanswered prayers that you forget God’s answered prayers.
  • A thankful heart attracts more of God’s blessings than a complaining heart.
  • Count your blessings regularly, and you will discover that God’s goodness is greater than your challenges.
  • Never compare your life with others; God’s plan and timing for everyone are different.
  • The blessings you overlook today may be the very things someone else is praying for.
