EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: June 23, 2026 – Overcoming the Giants in Your Father’s House

The giants in your family are known as the strongman of your father’s house. They manifest in several forms to attack the family. They are powers sponsored by forefathers who established altars, shrines and ancient covenant through dedication. They are spiritual forces that operate through people to hinder the progress of people in a family line.

Sometimes they operate through men and women involved in witchcraft, occult practices, marine worship, idol worship, or consultations with dark powers. Though they may appear as ordinary people, the forces behind them are demonic in nature. Every family has a history, but not every family history is a good one.

There are families where poverty has persisted for generations. There are families where people struggle to get married. Some families are known for untimely deaths, chronic sicknesses, repeated disappointments, addictions, or rising and falling. When a negative pattern continues from one generation to another, it becomes necessary to confront it through prayer, wisdom, and obedience to God.

Many people are fighting battles today that did not start with them. They were born into families where certain problems have existed for many years. When they look around, they discover that the same struggle affected their parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and other relatives.

Some families have a history of hardship, some have a history of repeated marital troubles, while others struggle with constant disappointments, failure and unexplained setbacks. Many family giants survive because they are protected by ignorance. The enemy knows that a person cannot effectively fight a battle he does not understand.

This is why many people spend years attacking the symptoms while ignoring the root of the problem. They see repeated failure as normal experience of life but they never ask why it still affecting them. There are some families where everyone works hard, yet little is achieved. There are families where people get close to success but somehow lose the opportunities at the last moment.

There are families where marriages begin with joy but always end in bitterness. There are many giants operating in different families, communities, and foundations. It is not every giant assigned to kill. Some are assigned to delay progress. Some are assigned to waste opportunities. Some are assigned to keep people in bondage and limitation for long.

The giants we are talking about could be a spirit. The spirit could be residing in the life of a person. The spirit could be coming from different areas like altar, environment, or ancient covenant. Some powers transmit to the body, soul and spirit influence them. That’s why as children of God, we must be prayerful, alert and spiritual vigilance.

A giant is a strongman who claims to be powerful than the rest people in a certain place or community. In every community, village, there is a strongman that supervises, rules or stand as a watchman over people. Most times, they act as king. Before anything can happen to a village, they have already seen it. If it is something that has to do with threat, they will try to avert it.

We also have other giant that operates in our charater, like fear, anger, unforgiveness, doubt, bitterness, jealousy etc. A person can have this spriit in him and still pretend all is well. Some people are vulnerable to fear. There’s nothing you can do to convince them not to be afriad. The giant has already been programmed in them.

There are some people that the moment they move into a new apartment or environment, the giant in that location is already aware of their coming. The spirit may welcome them peacefully, but after sometimes, the giant will study the kind of people they are, they will look at your star and check if you are the person that will stand against their activities in that area.

That’s why you see some people the moment they enter a new community, they begin to have issues ranging from sickness, loss of contract, bad luck, bad news, stagnation etc. They begin to regret themselves for moving out of their former apartment. Before you enter any community, you need to udnerstand the kind of powers operating in that place or family.

Before you accept any person into your life, before you have sexual affair with someone, you need to know or examine the kind of giant that is operating through them. The giant can be unclean spirit. The truth of the matter is that, there are some forces that you can’t deal with yourself unless God is involve in it.

That’s why you see a man of God who lay his hand on the head of a woman during deliverance, the man may begin to feel sexually arose. That woman isn’t ordinary. She might be possessed with marine spirit. Or that the pastor may also have the unclean giant sitting down in his life. These giants have lived in the life of so many people without them knowing.

It is hard to know that you are controlled by forces. Before you realized, damage has already been effected. One typical example is when your best friends begins to manipulate you. The giant of lies is already manipulating him. When you see a person who often betray others, that spiritual giant is already living with the person.

A person will plan to marry someone who appears to be kind and loyal but only to discover after marriage, you will see the giant in the person’s life coming after you. No wonder the Bible says, you wll need to bind the strongman. Until the strongman is bound, you may be controlled and manipulated by them. The giant of david is goliath.

A giant of the children of Isreal is Pharoah. A giant of Adam and Eve is the serpent.  A giant is a person or spirit who appers to be stronger than you by body size or by the size of their power. No matter how strong they are, God has given us power over them. Listen to this: Any giant that threatens you with death, you must kill them.

Any power that takes something from you, you must collect it back. Any giant that gives you wrong counsel or mislead you, you must silence them immediately. Any giants that tries to accuse you falsely, you must arrest them. This is why you must not give the enemy the chance to thrive in your life. The enemy can use someone close to you to fight you.

They can use a person’s friend to fight against their children. They can even use your children to fight against their parents. These powers must be arrested and overcome through the power of God. You must not give them any breathing space at all.

Beloved, whatever giant threatens your peace, your destiny, your family, or your relationship with God must be confronted through faith, prayer, obedience, and total dependence upon the Lord. Any power that seeks to steal what God has given you must be resisted. Any voice that constantly misleads, discourages, or manipulates you must be silenced through the authority of God’s Word.

No matter how long the giant has existed in your family, community, or foundation, God has given His children authority through Christ. Through prayer, faith, holiness, wisdom, and obedience, every giant can be overcome. The giant may be strong, but God is stronger. The giant may be ancient, but God is eternal. The giant may be feared by men, but it cannot withstand the power of the Almighty God.

Don’t let the enemy makes you feel you are powerless. Don’t let the devil makes you feel being defeated. Don’t let the devil makes you believe that your family glory cannot rise and shine again. Trust me, the devil has lost its power over your family. But the saddest truth is that, most of us refuses to believe this. When you keep saying negative things like these battles are too much.

You are strengthening the forces to add more to that problems. When you look at your parents and discover they are not living the life God has prepared for them, you must make sure you don’t follow that line. Many believers need that same mindset today. There are battles or giants that have whispered to you that they are the owner of your life and destiny. T

here are forces from the altars of your father’s house telling you to surrender to them before they can free you or give you all the things you want in this world. You have to be bold and challenge them that jesus has given me all the blessings I ‘ve ever wanted. Whenever those negative words cross your mind, please do not accept them.

By accepting them, you are fortifying the agreement they have with you. One thing the enemy fears is a believer who becomes spiritually alert and prayerful. One secret about the enemy is that, the moment he knows that you know some of his secrets, he will begin to fight hard to kill that knowledge. The devil does not want us to know the secret of his powers and he operates.

No matter how they have been attacking you, they are going down today, in Jesus name. Be that David and Gideon in your family. If God has chosen you to bring your family out of that bondage, you must not be afriad to fight your way to victory. The problem of many is that, they want to win, but they don’t want to fight.

There are some people that looks at the battles in their family and conclude that nothing can be done. They refuse to believe that this things are real. Others look at those same battles and see an opportunity for God to display His power in their life. The way some people are joking with this giant marvels me. You cannot continue to entertain your enemy with fear while you refuse to defeat them.

Another giant that operates in many families is the giant of discouragement. It whispers to people’s mind that there is no point trying because others have already failed. It tells them that nothing will change because things have always been this way. It convinces them to settle for less than God’s promises. Many destinies have been buried because people accepted discouragement as truth.

But throughout the Bible, God repeatedly chose people from difficult backgrounds and gave them extraordinary victories. When God called Gideon, he immediately began talking about his limitations. He reminded God that his family was poor and that he was the least in his father’s house. Yet God was not focused on Gideon’s background. God was focused on Gideon’s potential.

The giants in your father’s house may appear strong, but they are not stronger than God’s covenant in your life. The giant of poverty cannot defeat God’s provision in your life. The giant of delay cannot defeat God’s blessing in your life. The giant of failure cannot defeat God’s favour in your life. The giant of oppression cannot defeat God’s power in your life. Remember that every giant has limit.

Many people do not realize that some giants in the father’s house are strengthened by agreement. Every time a person says, “This is how our family has always been,” he unknowingly gives strength to that negative pattern. Every time someone declares, “Nobody succeeds in our family,” “All the women in our family suffer in marriage,” or “We are not destined for greatness,” they are agreeing with the giant rather than agreeing with God.

As believers, our confession must align with God’s Word, not with negative family history. The Bible says, “Let the weak say, I am strong.” God teaches His people to speak according to His promises and not according to their circumstances. If God says you are blessed, do not agree with a curse. If God says you are victorious, do not agree with defeat. If God says you are free, do not agree with bondage.

One of the reasons David defeated Goliath was because he refused to speak the language of fear. While others were talking about how big the giant was, David was talking about how great God was. Many believers need to change their language if they want to change their situation. Another giant operating in many families is the giant of spiritual neglect.

There are families that doesn’t serve God. There are families where prayer has been abandoned. There are families where the only star in the family is under pressure. There are families where you hardly see them happy. This is why overcoming family giants requires more than religious prayers. It requires a consistent relationship with God.

A person who prays only when there is trouble will struggle to maintain victory. But a person who walks with God daily develops spiritual strength to overcome challenges before they become overwhelming. The story of King Josiah provides another powerful lesson. Josiah was born into a family line filled with wicked kings who led the nation away from God.

His father and grandfather did not leave him a good spiritual heritage. Yet Josiah made a decision to seek God for himself. He repaired the temple, restored true worship, and brought spiritual renewal to the nation. Josiah’s story teaches us that you are not obligated to continue every tradition you inherited. Some traditions should be preserved, but others must be broken.

If a family tradition opposes God’s will in your life, it should not be celebrated; it should be confronted. A person who follows God wholeheartedly can overcome every strongman challenging them. The prayers you pray today may affect generations yet unborn. The decisions you make today may protect your children from battles you are facing.

The faithfulness you demonstrate today may become the foundation upon which future generations build their lives. Prayer still remains one of the most powerful weapons to bring down the strongman. The enemy wants you to believe that they are more powerful than you. He wants you to focus on how long the battle has existed in your family.

He wants you to think that because others failed, you will also fail. But God wants you to focus on His power. He wants you to remember that no battle is greater than Him. He wants you to understand that your future is not determined by the giants behind you but by the God before you.  One of the greatest victories a person can achieve is becoming the individual who changes the story of an entire family.

Every generation needs someone who will rise and say, “This negative pattern will stop with me.” The people who refuses to surrender to the limitations around them. They refuse to allow family history to become obstacles to their dreams. Consider the life of Jabez. The Bible tells us that he was born into sorrow and carried a name connected to pain.

However, Jabez refused to remain under the shadow of his beginning. He cried unto God, and God changed his story. This teaches us that your beginning does not have to determine your ending. You may have been born into a family where people struggle financially, but God can make you a testimony of prosperity and favour.

You may have come from a family where marriages constantly fail, but God can establish your home in peace. You may have grown up seeing disappointment and hardship, but God can give you a different story.  Many believers need to stop magnifying the giants in their life and start magnifying the power of God. The situation may look impossible, but nothing is impossible with God.

Another mistake people make is waiting for someone else to fight their battles for them. David’s brothers could not fight Goliath for him. Gideon’s neighbors could not destroy the altar in his father’s house for him. Every person eventually reaches a point where they must stand in faith and confront what has been confronting them.

There are battles that require focus and determination. There are victories that require persistence. There are breakthroughs that require continuous prayers. The enemy hopes that people will become tired and accept defeat. But God rewards those who remain steadfast in faith. The good news is that family giants do not have the final say. The final say belongs to God.

The Bible teaches that God is able to break every chain and give His children a new beginning. No matter what has happened in your family line before now, God has the power to rewrite your story. However, you must first recognize the battle and refuse to surrender to it. Many people have accepted defeat simply because they saw the same problems affecting their parents, grandparents, and relatives.

They assume that because something has always happened in their family, it must continue. But God’s plan is not for you to inherit bondage. His plan is for you to inherit His promises. Many people are facing family giants today, but God will give you victory. The God who delivered Joseph from rejection, raised Gideon from obscurity, changed the story of Jabez, and gave David victory over Goliath is still at work today.

He specializes in turning impossible situations into testimonies. He can make you the person who changes the history of your family and leaves behind a legacy of victory for future generations. The mistake many people make is allowing these giants to intimidate them into silence. What you tolerate today may continue tomorrow. What you confront through God’s power can be defeated.

Many believers are praying for change while still holding on to attitudes that keep the giant alive. Some giants survive because of unforgiveness, disobedience, compromise, pride, bitterness, or spiritual carelessness. You cannot consistently open the door to the enemy and expect complete freedom. Victory requires total cooperation with God.

There are times when the giant in your father’s house will try to convince you that your efforts are useless. It will remind you of your past mistakes. It will point you to the number of times you have fallen. It will magnify the problems. Let the word of God silence every negative word spoken against you. Therefore, do not fear the giants in your father’s house.

The first step to overcoming any giant is to identify it. You cannot fight what you refuse to acknowledge. Many people suffer from problems for years because they have never taken time to understand the root cause. Ask God for spiritual discernment. Study the recurring patterns in your life and family. Is there a repeated cycle of failure, delay, sickness, addiction, broken relationships, anger, fear, or disappointment? Understanding the battle is the beginning of victory.

Secondly, surrender your life completely to Jesus Christ. No one can successfully fight spiritual battles outside of God’s authority. Before David confronted Goliath, he already had a relationship with God. Before Gideon fought the Midianites, God had called and empowered him. Your greatest protection is your relationship with Christ.

Prayer is another powerful weapon against giants. Giants do not leave simply because they are confronted; they leave when the power of God is released against them. Consistent and fervent prayer weakens strongholds and invites divine intervention. You must also build a strong altar of God’s Word. Giants thrive where there is ignorance.

When Jesus was tempted by the devil, He overcame by speaking the Word of God. The more you fill your heart with Scripture, the stronger you become spiritually. The Word renews your mind and destroys the lies that giants use to control people. Another important step is repentance. Sometimes certain battles continue because doors have been left open through sin, disobedience, unforgiveness, bitterness, pride, or compromise.

Genuine repentance closes those doors and restores your fellowship with God. The enemy loses ground when a believer walks in obedience. You must learn to reject fear. Many giants survive because people are afraid of them. Goliath ruled Israel’s army through fear before David arrived. The moment fear is broken, the giant begins to lose its power.

Fear magnifies the problem; faith magnifies God. Be careful about the voices you listen to. Strongman often operate through negative counsel, discouraging words, and unbelieving people. David ignored the voices that told him he was too small to fight Goliath. If you constantly listen to people who speak defeat, your faith will weaken.

Surround yourself with people who strengthen your confidence in God. Another key is breaking agreement with negative patterns. Stop saying, “This is how my family has always been.” Stop accepting failure, delay, and bondage as your destiny. What happened to others does not have to happen to you. Refuse to cooperate with negative cycles through your words, thoughts, and actions.

You must also develop godly character. Some giants gain access through anger, pride, lust, greed, jealousy, bitterness, and unforgiveness. The more Christ-like your character becomes, the fewer opportunities the enemy has to operate in your life. Deliverance is not only about casting out darkness; it is also about allowing the Holy Spirit to transform your character.

Fasting can also be a powerful spiritual weapon. There are battles that require deeper consecration and dependence upon God. Fasting helps believers humble themselves before God and strengthen their spiritual sensitivity.

Most importantly, keep your eyes on God and not on the giant. Peter walked on water as long as he focused on Jesus. The moment he focused on the storm, he began to sink. The giant becomes smaller when God becomes bigger in your heart.

No matter how long the giant has existed, no matter how powerful it appears, and no matter how many people it has defeated before you, remember this truth: God has never lost a battle. The same God who delivered David, Gideon, Joseph, Esther, Daniel, and countless others is still able to deliver you today.

When you walk with God, stand on His Word, live a life of prayer and holiness, and refuse to surrender to fear, every giant standing against your destiny will eventually fall. The giant may be strong, but God is stronger. The giant may be ancient, but God’s power is eternal. Through Christ, you are more than a conqueror.

Prophetic Declaration

I decree that every giant standing against your progress shall fall by the power of God. Every negative pattern assigned to limit your destiny shall be broken. The Lord shall raise you above every inherited struggle and establish you in victory. You shall become a testimony of God’s power and a blessing to your generation, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

Daily Reflection

Ask yourself:

  • Are there negative patterns I have accepted as normal?
  • Am I allowing family history to control my expectations?
  • What promises of God am I standing upon concerning my life?
  • Have I surrendered every area of my life to God’s authority?
  • What steps can I take to build a different future?

Personal Challenge

Identify one negative pattern you do not want to continue in your life or future generations. Spend time praying about it, speaking God’s promises over it, and taking practical steps that align with God’s Word. Refuse to accept defeat where God has promised victory.

Evangelism Challenge

Encourage someone who feels trapped by their background. Remind them that Jesus Christ has the power to transform lives, break negative cycles, and create a new future.

African Proverb

“A mighty tree may grow from a difficult soil, but it does not have to remain limited by the ground where it began.”

Closing Reflection

Therefore, stand firm in faith. Keep praying. Keep obeying God. Keep declaring His promises. Do not surrender to fear, discouragement, or inherited limitations. The giant may have stood for many years, but it only takes one encounter with God’s power to bring it down.
