EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: June 22, 2026 – Stop Waiting for Others to Change Your Life

Everyone is important in the sight of God, and God has given every one of us gifts, talents, abilities, and opportunities that can be used to fulfill our purpose in life. The God we serve is a God of kindness, mercy, and favour. He blesses people and often uses people to bless others.

However, there is a danger in becoming overly dependent on human beings for everything. It is sad that many people are sitting down waiting for others to change their lives. They are waiting for one uncle to help them. They are waiting for someone to bless them. They are waiting for someone to favour them. They are waiting for someone to make them happy.

They are waiting for someone to buy them a car, build them a house, sponsor their ministry, or solve all their problems. While there is nothing wrong expecting something from people, but it is dangerous when your entire future depends on what another person decides or promises to do for you. The problem with excessive dependence on people is that it always leads to disappointment.

The day people stop giving you what you expect, the day you start hating them. The day they refuse to pick your calls, fail to send you money, or choose to help you, the moment you become discouraged. This is because you have unknowingly made them the foundation of your happiness and progress. The Bible says, “Vain is the help of man.”

This does not mean people cannot help you. It simply means that human beings are limited to some areas and they should never replace God as your source. Men are channels, but God is the source of our blessing. When you make people your source, you have put all your hope on them, they can either help you or ignore you.

The truth is that no human being has the ability to meet all your needs at all times. God alone is the ultimate Provider and Sustainer of every good thing. Sadly, many people are unknowingly delaying their progress and burying their dreams because they are waiting for someone else to take action on their behalf. They stop focusing on their goals because they believe someone will secure a position for them.
They refuse to develop their skills or do hard work because they are waiting for a relative abroad to send them money. They refuse to start small because they are waiting for a wealthy person to sponsor them. Meanwhile, the time of their destiny is gradually going. There are people who have become professional beggars of opportunities.
Every day they are looking for who will give them money, who will take them abroad, who will solve their problems, who will carry their burdens, and who will sponsor their dreams. But they have forgotten that God has given them hands to work, a mind to think, and abilities to develop. Instead of investing in themselves, they spend years chasing after people.

The sad reality is that some people have lost their dignity because of excessive dependence on others. They cannot make simple decisions without first consulting the person they depend on. Their mood depends on whether that person calls them or not. Their happiness depends on whether that person sends money or not. Their future depends on whether that person remembers them.

Such a life is dangerous because God never created anyone to live under the control of another person. One reason God allows certain disappointments in our life is to teach us to trust Him more than men. Sometimes the people you expected to help you will disappoint you. Sometimes the person that promised to buy you a car, give you a job, or take you for a dinner may feel reluctant to do so.

These moments are painful, but they often become turning points in our life. They force you to discover that God is your true source and helper of your life. When you wait for men to change your life, you give them the key to your life. Sometimes, the people you thought would always be there for you may suddenly become unavailable.

The assistance you expected from someone may stop suddenly. No matter how good a person may be to you, he does not have the power to control your destiny. He doesn’t have the power to be your god. Only God has that power. Many people never discover their true potential because they are constantly waiting for someone else to do for them what they should be doing for themselves.

As long as they are expecting a particular person to solve their problems, they stop thinking creatively. They stop developing themselves. They stop praying. Their dreams remain on hold because they have tied their future to another person’s decision. There are blessings that can only come when you stop looking to people and start looking to God.

There are opportunities you will never see until you stop focusing on who refused to help you. There are abilities inside you that may never be discovered until the support system you depended upon is removed. Therefore, do not allow disappointment to destroy your faith. If a person fails to help you, trust God and move on.

If a person fails to fulfil his promise, do not stress yourself., trust God and move on.  The God who fed Elijah by the brook and later used a widow to sustain him is still able to provide for His children in unexpected ways. When a person depends entirely on what others can give, he may fail to see the doors God is opening before him.

When they should be learning new things and improving themselves, they spend their time waiting for someone to make them feel like a rich person. Some people have become so dependent on promises from others that they neglect any vital opportunities that come their way. Their constant expectation or believe that someone will eventually change their situation has placed them at a disadvantage and delayed their progress.

Many people who should have gone far in life are still standing in the same place because they are waiting for a particular person to change their situation. They have tied their future to one person’s destiny. The day that person disappoints them, their entire life comes to a standstill. This was never God’s plan for our life.

God wants His children to be prayerful, and independent. He wants us to trust Him while making use of the gifts and opportunities He has already placed in our hands. He may send helpers, but He does not want us to become helpless without those helpers. There is another danger in depending too much on people. Some individuals have fallen into traps because they were desperate for help.

Some have entered wrong relationships because they were looking for someone to help them financially. Some have compromised their values because they were depending on a benefactor. Others have become victims of manipulation because they believed someone else held the key to their future. Sadly, some people have been spiritually and financially exploited because of this mentality.

They believed a particular person would change their lives completely, only to discover later that the person’s intentions were not genuine. What started as kindness and dependence on the person became bondage. This is why every believer must learn to put God first. Trust God more than you trust people. One thing you must understand is that God never created anyone to be useless in life.

Every person carries a seed of greatness. Every person has been given something valuable. It may be a gift, a talent, a skill, an idea, knowledge, wisdom, or a passion. The problem is that many people ignore what God has given them because they are too focused on what other people have. When David was sent to the battlefield, he did not wait for someone to fight Goliath on his behalf.

He used what he already had. He was not carrying a sword like the soldiers. He was not wearing armor like the warriors. He had a sling and a stone. What looked small in the eyes of others became the instrument of his breakthrough. There is nothing wrong with receiving assistance from people. In fact, God often uses people as channels of blessing.

But you must never become so dependent on human help that you stop developing yourself. The moment your life cannot move forward without a particular person, you have given that person too much control over your destiny. The truth is that many of the people you are waiting for are struggling with their own challenges.  Some are trying to solve their own problems.

Some are carrying burdens you know nothing about. Some genuinely want to help but lack the ability. Others simply have different priorities. This is why it is dangerous to place all your hopes on human beings. When God becomes your source, your perspective changes immediately. Instead of asking, “Who will help me?” you begin asking, “What can I do with what God has given me?” Instead of complaining about what is missing, you begin appreciating what is available.

And instead of sitting idle, you begin taking steps of faith. God has deposited something valuable inside every person. The problem is that many people are so focused on what others can do for them that they fail to discover what they can do for themselves through God’s grace. This does not mean you should reject help when it comes.

When God sends helpers, appreciate them. Be grateful for their kindness. Pray for them and honor them in your life. But never become entitled or dependent on them to the point where your life cannot move forward without them. Remember, your destiny is too important to be tied to one person’s decision. God has many ways of blessing His children.

He can send help from unexpected places. He can open doors nobody can shut. He can raise people you have never met in life to become a blessing to you. Therefore, stop sitting by the roadside waiting for someone to change your life. Stand up. Pray. Work. Learn. Grow. Develop your gifts. Use what God has already placed in your hands.

Trust Him completely, and He will guide all your steps. The God who created you has already placed within you enough potential to begin moving forward. Do not waste your future waiting for men when God is waiting for you to act. Never allow your desperation to place your destiny in another person’s hands. God may use people, but no human being should occupy the place that belongs to God in your life.

The most successful people are often those who learned how to trust God while taking responsibility for their own growth. They prayed, but they also worked hard. They believed God, but they also developed themselves. They waited on God, but they did not waste their time waiting on people. Never build your future around the wealth of a person.

Build your future around God. People may assist you, but God will sustain you. People may support you, but God will establishe you. People may try to open a door for you, but God is the One who has the master key. When you make God your source, disappointment will no longer have the power to destroy you. You will appreciate human help without becoming dependent on it.

You will be grateful for people’s kindness while understanding that your life is ultimately in God’s hands. And when God is your source, He will always make a way, even when all human support disappears. Appreciate those who have helped you, but never make them your source in life. Thank God for destiny helpers, but do not build your destiny around them.

Learn to work, learn to grow, learn to develop yourself, and learn to maximize the opportunities God has given you. The truth is that no man has the full capacity to change your life completely. Only God can do that. People may contribute to your journey, but God determines your destination. Stop waiting for one person to do everything for you.

Stop postponing your future because someone has not yet helped you. Stop fighting people because someone has refused to favour you. Start where you are. Use what you have. Develop your gifts. Improve your skills. God has given you wonderful gifts to make a way for you. Trust God, and allow Him to direct your path.

When you stop depending excessively on people and start depending more on God, you will discover true abilities, opportunities, and possibilities that you never knew existed in your life. God has made you a king or queen, explore the things He has put inside You and start using it to change your life positively. Meet good friends, learn from them and grow in leap and bound.

Closing Reflection

Beloved, make a decision to stop focusing on who has not helped you and start focusing on what God has already given you. Refuse to sit in the prison of excuses. Refuse to surrender to self-pity. Refuse to wait endlessly for people to do what God has empowered you to do. One day, you will look back and realize that the moment you stopped waiting for others to change your life was the moment God began changing your own story. May the Lord give you the wisdom to act, the courage to move, and the grace to succeed, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
