EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: September 15, 2026 – This Wickedness Must Stop

Beloved, wickedness exists in different places and can manifest in different ways. There can be wickedness in the family, wickedness in the office, wickedness among friends, wickedness in relationships, wickedness in business, and wickedness hidden in the hearts of men.

Sometimes, the people you expect to protect you may be the ones working against you. Sometimes, a person may smile with you openly while secretly carrying jealousy, hatred or an intention to frustrate you.

This is why the Bible says in Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

A wicked person does not have good intentions towards the person he or she has chosen to hurt. Wickedness seeks to steal, destroy, hinder, oppress, manipulate or bring another person down.

A wicked person may deliberately spread lies about you, damage your reputation, block an opportunity, betray your confidence, manipulate situations against you or rejoice when things are not going well for you.

Wickedness can become dangerous when hatred, jealousy, bitterness and envy are allowed to remain in the heart for too long. These negative emotions may begin quietly, but when they are continually fed, they can influence a person to take harmful and destructive actions against others.

This is why we must guard our hearts carefully, because what is tolerated within the heart today can influence how we treat people tomorrow.

We see examples of this throughout the Bible. Cain allowed jealousy and anger to grow in his life until he killed his brother Abel. Joseph’s brothers became jealous of him, conspired against him and sold him into slavery.

Haman’s hatred for Mordecai became so intense that he planned not only to destroy Mordecai but also the entire Jewish people.

Daniel’s colleagues were so jealous of his position and integrity that they deliberately created a law that would place him in the lions’ den.

These examples show us that wickedness can grow when jealousy, hatred, pride and bitterness are allowed to remain unchecked in the heart.

Sometimes wickedness comes from people you do not expect. Joseph’s enemies were his own brothers. David experienced betrayal from people close to him. Jesus was betrayed by Judas, a man who had walked with Him and participated in His ministry.

Therefore, closeness does not always guarantee good intentions. Not everybody who comes close to you comes with the same heart you have towards them. This does not mean you should become suspicious of everybody, but it means you should walk with wisdom and discernment.

Wickedness in the family can appear through unhealthy jealousy, manipulation, abuse, deliberate sabotage, unfair treatment or attempts to control another person’s life.

Wickedness in the workplace can appear through false accusations, character assassination, deliberate withholding of important information, taking credit for another person’s work or intentionally creating circumstances for someone to fail.

Wickedness among friends may manifest through betrayal, gossip, unhealthy competition or secretly celebrating another person’s downfall. Whatever form it takes, wickedness seeks to cause pain, limitation and destruction.

However, beloved, do not allow the wickedness of others to turn you into a wicked person. You must be careful that while praying against wickedness around you, wickedness does not begin growing inside you.

When somebody hurts you, guard your heart against revenge. When somebody succeeds, refuse jealousy. When somebody offends you, refuse to spend your life planning how to destroy them. Romans 12:21 says, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

You must also avoid concluding that everyone who disagrees with you or refuses to help you is wicked. Someone saying no to you does not automatically make that person your enemy.

A colleague receiving the promotion you wanted does not prove that they manipulated you. A family member correcting you is not necessarily fighting your destiny.

True discernment separates genuine wickedness from disappointment, misunderstanding, correction and the consequences of our own decisions.

When genuine wickedness is operating against you, pray and ask God to protect you. Sometimes you need to distance yourself from certain people. Sometimes you need stronger boundaries.

Sometimes you need to document what is happening. Sometimes you need to report wrongdoing or seek lawful intervention. And where there is genuine spiritual opposition, you must stand firmly in prayer. Psalm 7:9 says, “Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end.”

One dangerous thing about wickedness is that it does not always announce itself before it begins to operate. There are people who will not openly tell you that they are against you.

They may continue relating with you normally while carrying resentment in their hearts. This is why wisdom is necessary in human relationships.

Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” You should love people, but you must also learn to observe their character, patterns and actions.

Envy has pushed many people into actions they would never have considered under normal circumstances.

A person may be comfortable with you when both of you are struggling, but suddenly become uncomfortable when your life begins to improve.

Your testimony can expose what was already hidden in another person’s heart. This does not mean everybody who becomes distant is jealous, but Scripture repeatedly shows us that envy can become a doorway to destructive behaviour.

Acts 7:9 says, “And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him.” Notice the expression “moved with envy.” Their envy did not remain merely as a feeling; it eventually influenced their actions.

They began by disliking Joseph, then they conspired against him, threw him into a pit and finally sold him. When envy is entertained rather than confronted, it can grow into wicked behaviour.

Therefore, guard your own heart when another person is succeeding. Learn to celebrate other people’s testimonies without feeling that their progress diminishes your own or erases God’s work in your life.

Someone else’s promotion does not mean God has forgotten you. Someone else’s marriage does not mean yours will never happen. Someone else’s financial breakthrough does not reduce what God can do in your life.

The moment another person’s blessing begins to make you angry, examine your heart before envy develops into something more dangerous.

Not every friendship is built upon genuine love. Proverbs 27:6 says, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”

A genuine friend may sometimes tell you something you do not want to hear because they want you to improve. On the other hand, someone with wrong intentions may flatter you while quietly encouraging decisions that will eventually hurt you.

This is why you should not measure friendship only by compliments. Look at consistency, honesty, respect, confidentiality and character. Does this person genuinely want you to grow?

Can they correct you without humiliating you? Can they celebrate your progress? Can they keep confidential matters private? Do they encourage you towards wisdom or continually push you towards destructive decisions?

Be careful who receives unrestricted access to sensitive areas of your life. Love everybody as Scripture commands, but access should be governed by wisdom and trust.

Even Jesus loved people, yet John 2:24 says, “But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men.”

There are situations where people become hostile simply because they can no longer control another person. As long as you obey every demand, tolerate every manipulation and remain dependent upon them, everything appears peaceful.

But the moment you begin establishing healthy boundaries, making independent decisions or refusing unreasonable demands, hostility begins.

This can happen in families, friendships, workplaces and relationships. Some people do not necessarily miss you when you withdraw; they miss the control they once had over you. Therefore, do not confuse manipulation with love.

You must learn that saying “no” is sometimes necessary. Setting boundaries does not automatically mean you are rebellious, disrespectful or unforgiving.

There are times when protecting your peace, family, finances or emotional wellbeing requires you to establish clear limits.

A person may discover that they cannot stop you directly, so they attempt to influence how other people see you. They begin spreading half-truths, exaggerating your mistakes or presenting private matters in a misleading way.

Absalom used this kind of strategy against David. According to 2 Samuel 15, he gradually stole the hearts of the people by creating the impression that David was not properly attending to them.

Your reputation matters, but you cannot spend your entire life chasing every rumour. There are accusations that require a response, particularly when your family, employment, ministry, safety or legal standing is involved.

There are others that wisdom may tell you to ignore. Ask God to help you know the difference. Refuse to destroy yourself trying to explain yourself to everybody.

Being a Christian does not mean allowing people to exploit you continually. Some people recognize that you are compassionate and begin using guilt to manipulate you. They know you find it difficult to say no, so they continually place responsibilities upon you that rightly belong to them.

Galatians 6 teaches both bearing one another’s burdens and carrying personal responsibility. Christian generosity should therefore be accompanied by wisdom.

Helping someone repeatedly without addressing irresponsible behaviour can sometimes strengthen the very problem you are trying to solve.

Be generous, but be discerning. Be compassionate, but establish boundaries. Forgive, but learn from experience. A good heart still needs wisdom.

Joseph lost years because of what other people did to him. Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den because people deliberately conspired against him.

Mordecai was targeted by Haman because he refused to bow before him. Yet in each situation, the plan of wicked people did not become the final outcome.

This is important because sometimes we become discouraged when wickedness appears to succeed temporarily. The fact that someone succeeded in hurting you does not mean they have succeeded in destroying your future. A temporary setback is not necessarily a permanent defeat.

You may have lost an opportunity because somebody lied against you. You may have experienced financial loss because someone deceived you. You may have suffered emotionally because somebody betrayed your trust.

Acknowledge the pain, learn whatever needs to be learned and seek appropriate justice where necessary, but do not build your remaining life around what somebody did to you.

Sometimes wickedness stops physically, but continues emotionally because the injured person remains consumed by what happened. Years later, they are still angry, bitter and mentally arguing with the person who hurt them.

The offender may have moved on, but the injured person remains imprisoned by the memory of the past event.

Healing does not mean pretending nothing happened. Forgiveness does not mean calling evil good. It means refusing to allow another person’s wrongdoing to permanently control your heart.

Joseph eventually reached a place where he could look at his brothers and recognize that their actions had not cancelled God’s purpose.

Genesis 50:20 says, “Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.” What they intended and what God ultimately accomplished were two different things.

Beloved, never give another human being so much power that what they did yesterday determines who you become tomorrow.

Luke 12:2 says, “For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.” There are situations in which things done secretly eventually become exposed over times.

Lies can be uncovered, hidden motives can become clearer and patterns can reveal what words attempted to conceal.

Therefore, you do not always have to force exposure. Avoid becoming obsessed with investigating everybody around you.

Pray for discernment and pay attention to verifiable facts. If something genuinely needs investigation, especially in serious matters involving abuse, fraud, crime or safety, use the appropriate channels.

Ask God not only to expose what is wrong but also to expose your own wrong assumptions. Sometimes the person you suspected was innocent, while the real problem was somewhere else. Discernment must be governed by truth rather than fear.

There are times when wickedness continues because good people remain silent. If you know someone is being abused, do not help conceal it. If someone asks you to participate in fraud, refuse it immediately.

If your workplace expects you to falsify information, maintain your integrity. If family members encourage you to mistreat another relative because of an old conflict, refuse to join them.

Exodus 23:2 says, “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil.” The fact that everybody around you is participating does not make something right.

Sometimes stopping wickedness begins with one person saying, “I will not participate in this.” You may not be able to control everybody else’s behaviour, but you can determine what you will permit yourself to become involved in.

Be Careful What You Call Wickedness

Spiritual maturity requires discernment and wisdom. Not everyone who corrects you is against you. Not every closed door was closed by an enemy.

Not every delay is caused by household wickedness. Not everyone who refuses to lend you money hates you. Not every disagreement is persecution.

If you label every uncomfortable experience as wickedness, you may eventually reject people God is using to correct you. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

Before concluding that someone is wicked, examine the evidence. Ask whether the person actually acted maliciously or whether you are reacting to disappointment, correction or misunderstanding. Discernment does not mean seeing enemies everywhere; it means seeing situations accurately.

There will always be things beyond your control. You cannot control what everybody says about you. You cannot force everybody to like you. You cannot prevent every betrayal, and you cannot know everything happening behind your back.

This is where faith becomes important. Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” Do what is within your responsibility and commit what is beyond your control into God’s hands.

Pray, but do not become paranoid. Be watchful, and alert. Learn from betrayal, but do not conclude that nobody can ever be trusted again. Wickedness should make you wiser, not bitter; prayerful, not fearful; discerning, not suspicious of everyone.

Beloved, whatever genuine wickedness has been operating against your life must not be allowed to write the conclusion of your story.

You need to continue standing upon the Word of God, walking in integrity. and continue praying. And when necessary, take the practical steps required to protect yourself and those entrusted to you.

The wicked may have an intention, but God also has a purpose. The wicked may make plans, but God remains sovereign. The wicked may create obstacles, but they do not possess the final authority over your destiny.

Beloved, wickedness may be real, but wickedness does not have the final authority over your life. Joseph’s brothers could sell him, but they could not sell his destiny.

Daniel’s enemies could arrange the lions’ den, but they could not stop the purpose of God.  Haman could build the gallows, but he could not destroy the people God had determined to preserve.

Whatever genuine wickedness is operating against your life, continue to walk in righteousness, remain prayerful, apply wisdom and trust God for deliverance. The wickedness of the wicked must come to an end, but God will establish the righteous.

PERSONAL CHALLENGE

Today, take some time to examine your life and relationships carefully. Ask yourself: Is there any form of wickedness, manipulation, unhealthy control, jealousy, betrayal or deliberate opposition that I have been tolerating because I am afraid to confront the situation? Ask God for wisdom to know what needs prayer, what requires a boundary, what should be reported, and what you simply need to walk away from.

At the same time, examine your own heart. Refuse to be so focused on the wickedness of others that you overlook jealousy, bitterness, unforgiveness, revenge or unhealthy competition growing within you. Pray as David did in Psalm 139:23–24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart… and see if there be any wicked way in me.”

Make a personal decision today: I will not cooperate with wickedness, and I will not allow another person’s wickedness to produce wickedness in me. Where you need to forgive, forgive. Where you need to establish boundaries, do so wisely. Where there is genuine abuse, fraud, threats or criminal behaviour, seek appropriate help rather than remaining silent. Where you have wrongly suspected someone without evidence, correct your thinking.

Finally, identify one destructive pattern that must stop in your own life or family. Do not only pray about it; take one practical step towards ending it. The wickedness you condemn in others must not find a comfortable place in your own heart.

Beloved, there is an end to oppression. There is an end to repeated affliction. There is an end to shame, manipulation and wicked domination. The God who heard Israel in Egypt still hears the cry of His people. As you call upon Him, may every operation of wickedness against your life, family and destiny come to a permanent end.

Prophetic Declaration: Every wicked operation troubling your life and family shall come to an end. The Lord will expose hidden plots, overturn evil decisions and establish you in peace, righteousness and victory. Affliction shall not rise again, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
