EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: June 19, 2026 – Don’t Abandon Your Assignment
Every believer has an assignment from God both young and old. Some are called to preach. Some are called to teach. Some are called to encourage others. Some are called to pray and intercede. Some are called to support God’s work through their resources.
Some are called to lead. Some are even called to influence society through ther professions and characters. No matter how small or great the assignment may be, every assignment that God gives us is important and carries divine purpose.
God expects us to remain faithful and committed until we fulfill the task He has entrusted into our hands. You were not born by accident, and you were not sent to this world without a purpose. Before you were formed in your mother’s womb, God already knew you and had a plan for your life.
One reason people abandon their assignment is because they expected the journey to be easier than what it is obtainable now. Every assignment comes with their own challenges. Every calling comes with their opposition. Every purpose comes with sacrifices.
Having difficulties in fulfilling your purpose does not mean God has abandoned you. In many cases, the difficulties are proof that your assignment is important. One of the greatest tragedies in life is not failure; it is abandoning the assignment God has given you.
Many people begin well but do not finish well. They start with passion, zeal, and commitment, but along the way, discouragement, distractions, criticism, disappointments, and personal struggles cause them to give up.
The devil knows that he may not be able to stop God’s calling upon your life completely, so he will try to wear people out until they become tired and abandon their assignment. He even uses delay, opposition, lack of support, fear, and sometimes even success to distract people from their purpose.
Another reason people abandon their assignment is because they compare themselves with others. Comparison is dangerous because it makes people lose focus on what God has specifically called them to do. Instead of appreciating their own assignment, they become distracted by another person’s journey.
John the Baptist understood his assignment. He did not try to become Jesus. He knew his role was to prepare the way for Christ. Because he understood his purpose, he remained focused and effective. Many people become frustrated because they are trying to live another person’s destiny instead of their own.
Another reason people abandon their assignment is lack of immediate results. We live in a generation that loves quick success. However, many divine assignments require patience. Noah spent years building the ark before the arrival of the flood.
During that time, there was no visible reward in his life, but his obedience has preserved many generations. Sometimes God allows some challenges to come and not to destroy our assignment but to strengthen us for it.
God is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for faithful people. Faithfulness is one of the most valuable qualities in the kingdom of God. A person may not have extraordinary gifts, but if he remains faithful to what God has assigned to him, God will honour that faithfulness.
Moses spent years in the wilderness before leading Israel. David spent years running from Saul before becoming king. The preparation season was part of the assignment. Many believers make the mistake of abandoning their assignment because of criticism.
If you allow people’s opinions to control your life, you will never fulfill God’s purpose. There are people today who are living with regret today because they abandoned an assignment God gave them years ago. Some abandoned their ministry because of criticism or lack of growth.
Some abandoned their business due to lack of sales and profits. Some abandoned their prayer life because they did not receive quick answers. Some abandoned their calling due to lack of support. What they did not realize was that God was actually using those seasons to prepare them for something greater ahead.
One of the greatest mistakes a believer can make is to confuse delay with denial. A delay in your assignment is not a sign that God has withdrawn His calling; it may simply mean He is working according to His timing. God works according to His timetable, not ours.
There are seasons in our life when He allows us to walk by faith rather than by sight. During those seasons, nothing may seem to be happening, but God is definitely working behind the secenes.
Another reason many people abandon their assignment is because they feel intimidated by the magnitude of what God has called them to do. When they look at the challenges ahead, the resources they lack, or the distance they still have to cover, they become discouraged and lose focus.
Instead of concentrating on the next step God wants them to take, they become overwhelmed by the entire journey. But God rarely reveals the full picture of our journey at once. He leads His children progressively, one step at a time.
If He showed you everything from the beginning, you might become afraid and refuse to move forward. Therefore, focus on today’s assignment and trust God to guide you through tomorrow’s responsibilities.
There are assignments that require years of consistency before the results manifest. A person who plants a tree today may not enjoy its full benefits immediately. But if he remains patient in his season, the tree will eventually provide shade, fruits, and blessings. In the same way, your faithfulness today may be producing results that will become visible later.
Whenever you feel like quitting, remember why God called you in the first place. Remember the burden He has placed in your heart. Remember the passion He gave you. Remember the lives that may be affected by your obedience and impartation. Your assignment is bigger than what you think.
Your assignment is connected to God’s purpose and to people whose lives may be transformed through your faithfulness. The enemy celebrates whenever a believer abandons his assignment. He knows that unfinished assignments can hinder a person.
But heaven rejoices when a believer remains faithful to their purpose despite challenges. Heaven celebrates when a believer refuses to quit. Heaven honors those who continue moving forward even when the journey becomes difficult. Therefore, do not abandon your assignment.
Please do not let lack of support or help deny you of your advancement. The road may be long, but keep moving forward. The battle may be intense today, but it will be better tomorrow. The progress may not come, but keep moving.
The God who entrusted the assignment to you has already provided the grace needed to complete it. Remain faithful, and in due season you will see the fruit of your labour. Nehemiah received a burden from God to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem. The assignment was not easy.
There was opposition from enemies, criticism from outsiders, and discouragement from within. His enemies repeatedly tried to distract him from the work. They invited him to meetings and attempted to pull him away from his assignment. But Nehemiah understood something important.
He refused to abandon what God had called him to do. Another reason people abandon their assignment is because they become offended. Offense has stopped many gifted people from fulfilling their purpose. Some become offended by church leaders, family members, friends, or even fellow believers.
Instead of dealing with the offense through prayer and forgiveness, they walk away from the very place God has planted them to grow and succeed. The enemy knows that a wounded heart can become a distracted heart. There are also people who abandon their assignment after experiencing success.
Success can be as dangerous as failure if a person is not careful. When some people begin to prosper, they become too comfortable. The hunger, prayer life, and commitment that brought them to that level gradually disappear.
They become satisfied with where they are now and stop pursuing the greater purpose God has for them. Many believers mistakenly think that if an assignment is from God, it will automatically be free from difficulties. However, this is not always the truth.
The greater the assignment, the greater the responsibility and the greater the opposition. Satan does not waste his energy fighting people who are doing nothing or people who doesn’t have assignment. But he targets people who are making progress, influencing lives, and advancing God’s purpose.
This is why you must never interpret opposition or challenge as a sign that God is not with you. Some of the greatest men and women in the Bible faced intense resistance while carrying out their assignments. Moses was called to lead Israel, but faced complaints, rebellion, and criticism.
Jeremiah was called to deliver God’s message, yet many people rejected his warnings. Paul was called to preach the gospel, yet he experienced imprisonment, persecution, and hardship. Their difficulties did not mean they were outside God’s will. In fact, they were often signs that they were exactly where God wanted them to be.
Your assignment is not primarily about receiving praise from people. It is about fulfilling God’s purpose. Whether people appreciate your efforts or not, remain faithful. Whether people acknowledge your sacrifices or not, remain faithful. Whether your labour is seen or unseen, remain faithful.
One of the enemy’s most effective strategies is distraction. If he cannot stop you, he will try to divert your attention. He will present alternatives that appear attractive to you but are not part of God’s plan for your life. He will tempt you to compare yourself with others.
He will make you feel that someone else’s assignment is more important than yours. God did not call you to compare yourself with others. He has called you to be faithful to what He has entrusted to you. The measure of success in God’s kingdom is not by popularity, wealth, or public recognition.
The measure of success is faithfulness. That assignment given to you is your baby, please do not abandon it. Please do everything possible to exceute it and fulfill it to the glory of God. To abandon your assignment is to neglect the gift God has given you.
God will not give you something without a purpose. He knows that you are the best person that has the grace to fulfill it. Every assignment has our name on it. Do not be like a person who abandons his spiritual gifts for years and later come back to start from the beginning.
Do everything possible to recognise your gifts and start using it as a tool to power your dreams. People will clap for you when you are doing well. But the same people who clap for you can easily throws stones at you for failing to represent their interest.
At the end of your journey, God will not ask whether you completed someone else’s assignment. He will ask what you did with the assignment He gave you. Do not abandon your assignment because of difficulties, delays, or discouragement.
The God who called you is faithful, and He will strengthen you to finish what He started in your life. Therefore, remain steadfast. Remain committed. Remain focused to your assignment. You will make it in Jesus name.
Prophetic Declaration
I decree over your life today that you shall not abandon your divine assignment. Every power assigned to discourage, frustrate, or distract you shall fail. The Lord shall strengthen your hands, renew your vision, and revive your passion. You will not quit at the edge of your breakthrough. The grace to finish well and complete your purpose shall rest upon you. Your labour shall produce fruit, and your assignment shall bring glory to God, in Jesus’ mighty name.
Personal Challenge
This week, identify one area of your life, ministry, business, or calling where you have become discouraged. Instead of quitting, make a fresh commitment to remain faithful. Refuse to allow distractions, criticism, delays, or lack of recognition to make you abandon what God has entrusted to you.
