You Need Just One Person- EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: October 20, 2026

Beloved, sometimes all you need in life is one person. One person who believes in you, encourages you, supports your vision, recommends you for an opportunity, gives you wise counsel or stands beside you during a difficult season.

Heaven does not always send a crowd when it wants to change a destiny. God often sends one man or one woman, and through that single connection, doors that were shut for years in that person’s life suddenly swing open.

You may have hundreds of contacts on your phone, thousands of followers on social media and many people who recognise your face, yet you may still struggle to find one person you can genuinely trust or who can willingly help you.

This is because having many people around you is not the same as having meaningful relationships. Numbers do not equal covenant, and familiarity does not equal friendship.

A man can be known by many and helped by none. Sometimes having too many numbers can strain your brain from easily recognizing the right person in your contact to call.

Some people are surrounded by crowds but remain lonely. Others have only a few friends, yet those friendships provide genuine encouragement, accountability and support. Jesus Himself was followed by multitudes. They pressed upon Him for bread and for miracles.

Yet in the hour of His deepest agony in Gethsemane, the crowd was gone, and even His closest disciples were sleeping. He said to Peter, “What, could ye not watch with me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40).

The crowd that followed Him in the sunshine was absent in the dark night. Paul experienced the same thing.

After years of ministry, preaching to thousands and planting churches across nations, he wrote, “At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me” (2 Timothy 4:16). A man who had touched so many lives found himself standing alone when it mattered most.

So, beloved, do not be deceived by the size of the crowd around you. Do not measure your support system by the number of people who greet you in church, comment on your posts or call you during celebrations.

The real question is this: when the storm comes, who will stand? When you fall, who will lift you up? When you are in trouble, who is the next person who can rescue you?

When your name is mentioned in a room you are not in, who will speak for you? You do not need everybody to believe in your dreams. Sometimes one trustworthy person is enough to help you take the most important step of your life.

However, you must remember that people are not your ultimate source of security and provider. God is your foundation, and He uses human relationships as channels of encouragement, wisdom and assistance.

The Bible warns, “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD” (Jeremiah 17:5). And again, “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help” (Psalm 146:3).

When Paul said that all men forsook him, he did not end his sentence in sorrow. He continued, “Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me” (2 Timothy 4:17). That is the secret.

Your eyes must first be on God, and then God will direct the right people towards you. “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1–2). Your help comes from the Lord, but very often it arrives through a human hand.

Do you know that there is a person God has already positioned to help you? It may be in the area of your marriage, your finances, your career, your education, your ministry or your health. These people may have money, or they may have nothing at all.

But as long as God has positioned them in your life, they will be willing to help you, and they will find a way. When the brook dried up for Elijah, God said, “Arise, get thee to Zarephath… behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee” (1 Kings 17:9).

Think about it. God did not send Elijah to a rich merchant. He sent him to a widow who had only a handful of meal and a little oil, and who was preparing her last meal before death.

Yet because God had commanded her, she became Elijah’s sustainer, and her barrel did not run empty. Your helper does not need to be wealthy. Your helper only needs to be positioned by God.

The Shunammite woman perceived that Elisha was a holy man of God and said to her husband, “Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick” (2 Kings 4:10).

One woman’s kindness gave a prophet a place to rest. God had positioned her in his path. You do not need a crowd. You need just one person who will show you the way to the fulfilment of your dreams. That one person represents your destiny helper.

Beloved, do not always sit and wait for your helper to knock on your door. Sometimes you will be the one to find them. Ruth did not sit at home in Bethlehem mourning her losses.

She said, “Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace” (Ruth 2:2). And the Bible says, “her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz” (Ruth 2:3). She went out, and she found the man who would change her life.

Saul went out looking for his father’s lost donkeys, and in the process he found the prophet Samuel, who anointed him king of Israel (1 Samuel 9). He went looking for one thing, and God connected him to his destiny.

The Ethiopian eunuch, when Philip appeared, “desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him” (Acts 8:31). He did not let his helper pass by. He invited him in.

Some helpers are waiting for you to move. Some are waiting for you to ask. Some are waiting for you to show up in the right field. Move, and God will order your steps into the right place.

Do you know that one of the reasons many people are not yet married is because they have not met that one person who can recommend them, introduce them or speak for them? They keep praying and praying.

Though prayer works, and we must never stop praying. But at times, the answer to our prayer comes in the form of a person. When Abraham wanted a wife for Isaac, he did not leave it to chance.

He sent his trusted servant, and the servant prayed, “O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day” (Genesis 24:12). Before he finished praying, Rebekah came out with her pitcher.

That servant was the one person God used to connect Isaac to his wife. Prayer brought the person, and the person brought the answer.

Naomi said to Ruth, “My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?” (Ruth 3:1). Naomi became the one person who guided Ruth into marriage with Boaz.

Esther became queen because Mordecai raised her and positioned her, and because Hegai, the keeper of the women, showed her favour and gave her the best place (Esther 2:9).

So pray, but also ask God for the right person. The right person who will tell you the truth. The right person who believes in you when you no longer believe in yourself.

The right person encourages you when you are discouraged and lifts your head when you are tired of trying. The right person are never tired of offering their kindness towards people sent by God into their lives.

One person can recommend you for an opportunity you never knew existed. When King Saul was troubled by an evil spirit, one of his servants said, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty man of valour, and a prudent man in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him” (1 Samuel 16:18).

That single recommendation carried David from the sheepfold into the palace. David did not apply for the job. Somebody spoke his name.

One person can give you useful advice that saves your life and your ministry. Moses was wearing himself out judging the people from morning until evening, and his father in law Jethro said, “The thing that thou doest is not good” (Exodus 18:17).

Jethro’s counsel restructured the leadership of an entire nation and preserved Moses from burnout.

One person can introduce you to the right people. Andrew found his brother Simon and brought him to Jesus (John 1:41–42). That introduction produced the apostle Peter.

Barnabas took Saul, whom the disciples were afraid of, “and brought him to the apostles” (Acts 9:27). One introduction opened the door for the greatest apostle of the early church.

One person can help you when you are struggling. When David was hiding in the wilderness and Saul was hunting him, “Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God” (1 Samuel 23:16). In David’s darkest season, one friend walked into the forest to encourage him.

One person can correct you when you are making a mistake. When David sinned with Bathsheba and tried to cover it, God sent Nathan, who said boldly, “Thou art the man” (2 Samuel 12:7).

That painful correction led David to repentance and restoration. A person who corrects you in love is not your enemy; he may be the one person standing between you and destruction.

One person can stand by you during a difficult season.

When Naomi lost her husband and her two sons and was returning home empty and bitter, Orpah went back, but Ruth said, “Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God” (Ruth 1:16). One woman’s loyalty turned Naomi’s mourning into joy.

One person can speak for you when others doubt you. When the disciples in Jerusalem doubted that Saul had truly been converted, Barnabas stood up and declared to them how Saul had seen the Lord and preached boldly at Damascus (Acts 9:27).

When everybody else was suspicious, one man vouched for him.

One person can help you recognise your potential. Samuel saw a king in a young man searching for donkeys. Elijah saw a prophet in a farmer ploughing with twelve yoke of oxen and cast his mantle upon him (1 Kings 19:19).

Sometimes you cannot see what God has deposited in you until one person calls it out.

One person can make a difference in your ministry or calling. Apollos was eloquent and mighty in the Scriptures, but Aquila and Priscilla “took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly” (Acts 18:26).

After that encounter, Apollos became a powerful help to the believers. One couple sharpened a preacher, and his ministry went to another level.

There are people whose lives changed completely because someone decided to help them. Someone paid their school fees when their parents could not afford it, and today they are doctors, lawyers, engineers and pastors.

Someone gave them employment when every other door was shut, just as Boaz allowed Ruth to glean among the sheaves and commanded his young men to let handfuls fall on purpose for her (Ruth 2:15–16).

Someone introduced them to a business opportunity that became the foundation of their wealth. Someone offered them accommodation when they had nowhere to lay their heads, as the Shunammite woman made a room for Elisha.

Someone encouraged them to continue their education when they were about to give up. Someone recommended them for a promotion, just as the servant recommended David to Saul.

Someone supported them when everyone else had given up on them. Someone gave them a second chance. Think about John Mark. He abandoned Paul and Barnabas in the middle of a missionary journey, and Paul refused to take him again.

But Barnabas gave him a second chance and took him along (Acts 15:37–39). Years later, the same Paul wrote, “Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry” (2 Timothy 4:11).

One man’s willingness to give a second chance restored a destiny that could have been lost forever. Beloved, never underestimate the difference one compassionate, trustworthy and responsible person can make in your life.

But be careful not to make one person your god. As important as your helper is, he or she is only a vessel in the hand of God.

The moment you begin to worship your helper, fear losing them more than you fear God, or depend on them more than you depend on the Lord, you have turned a blessing into an idol.

“Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm” (Jeremiah 17:5). Honour your helper, but worship only God. Do not despise people because they appear unimportant.

Naaman almost lost his healing because he despised the simple instruction of the prophet. It was his own servants who came near and said, “My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it?” (2 Kings 5:13).

And his healing journey had started with a little captive maid. God can use unexpected people. He fed Elijah by ravens. He lifted Jeremiah out of the dungeon through Ebedmelech, a foreign eunuch.

He promoted Joseph through a forgetful butler. The person you ignore today may be the person carrying your tomorrow. Do not destroy the relationship with the person who helped you.

Gehazi served Elisha, the greatest prophet of his generation, but greed and lies destroyed that relationship, and he went out from Elisha’s presence a leper (2 Kings 5:27).

When a new king arose over Egypt “which knew not Joseph” (Exodus 1:8), the favour Israel had enjoyed turned into bondage. Never let pride, ingratitude, offence or dishonesty destroy the bridge that carried you over.

Many people burn the bridge after crossing it, and when they need to cross back, there is nothing left.

And finally, remember that you may be the one person someone else needs. Somebody around you is waiting for a word of encouragement, a recommendation, a meal, a room, a phone call or a second chance.

The Bible says, “Two are better than one… For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow” (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10). Do not only pray for your helper; become somebody’s helper. As you lift others, God will raise people to lift you.

Beloved, you must understand that the enemy is not only fighting your prayers; he is fighting your connections. Satan knows that if he can keep you away from the one person God assigned to you, he can keep you stagnant for years.

This is why some people pray for a long time and see nothing, not because God has not answered, but because the answer is being resisted.

When Daniel prayed, God answered on the very first day. Yet the angel said, “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days” (Daniel 10:13). For three weeks, the answer was held back in the heavenlies.

In the same way, there are powers that stand between people and their helpers. Some helpers are on their way, but they have been diverted. Some have been made to forget. Some have been filled with unexplainable hatred towards the very person they were sent to bless.

Some are seeing a strange face when they look at you, because an evil mark of rejection has been placed upon your life. This is why you must not only pray for helpers; you must also fight for them.

Every prince of Persia standing between you and your destiny helper must be dislodged by fire. Every evil cloud covering your face from the eyes of your helpers must be scattered.

Every satanic voice speaking against you in their ears must be silenced. When you pray with violence in the spirit, the helpers that were delayed will suddenly appear, and the people who ignored you will begin to look for you, in the name of Jesus.

Mordecai once saved the life of King Ahasuerus by exposing a plot against him. The deed was written in the king’s records, but nobody rewarded him. Years passed.

Then one night, at the exact moment Haman was preparing a gallows to hang Mordecai, the Bible says, “On that night could not the king sleep” (Esther 6:1). The king called for the book of records, and the very page that was read to him was the story of Mordecai.

By the next morning, the man who was supposed to be hanged was dressed in royal apparel and led through the city on the king’s horse.

Beloved, God knows how to take sleep from the eyes of your helper. He knows how to bring your name back to their memory. He knows how to open the very page where your good deeds were recorded.

What men have forgotten, God has not forgotten. Your season of being ignored is not the end of your story. At the appointed time, God will cause somebody to remember you, and what was delayed for years will be settled in one night.

Joseph was faithful in Potiphar’s house, faithful in prison, and faithful in interpreting dreams for others even when nobody was helping him. When the door finally opened, he was ready to stand before Pharaoh.

Some people pray for helpers, yet they are lazy, dishonest, proud or unreliable. When the helper comes, there is nothing to recommend. Develop your gift, keep your character clean and be faithful where you are, so that when your one person comes, they will find something worth lifting.

Mephibosheth was lame in both feet and living in Lodebar, a place of nothing. He had done nothing to deserve the king’s attention. Yet one day David asked, “Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” (2 Samuel 9:1).

Mephibosheth was lifted from Lodebar to the king’s table, not because of his own works, but because of a covenant his father Jonathan had made with David.

Beloved, some help will come into your life because of seeds sown by others before you, because of the prayers of a mother, the kindness of a father or the faithfulness of someone who loved you. And the greatest covenant of all is the blood covenant of Jesus Christ.

Because of that covenant, God says to you, “Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness” (2 Samuel 9:7). You may feel unqualified and forgotten, but covenant will locate you and bring you to the King’s table.

At the same time, remember that your own kindness today may become the covenant that brings help to your children tomorrow. Sow kindness, because someone in your lineage will reap it.

Beloved, as surely as one person can lift you, one person can also bring you down. Adam fell through the influence of one voice in his home. Samson lost his strength through one woman on whose lap he slept. Amnon destroyed his life through the counsel of one friend named Jonadab.

Rehoboam lost ten tribes because he listened to the wrong group of advisers. This is why you must not accept everyone who offers help. Not every helper is sent by God. Some come with gifts in their hands and chains in their pockets. Some help you today so they can control you tomorrow.

Some open a door for you, only to lead you into a trap. Ask the Holy Spirit for discernment. A destiny helper from God will draw you closer to God, not away from Him. If the help requires you to compromise your faith, your purity or your integrity, it is not help from heaven; it is bait from hell.

Jesus healed ten lepers, but the Bible says only one returned: “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks” (Luke 17:15–16).

Jesus asked, “Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?” (Luke 17:17).

Many people pray earnestly for helpers, and when God sends them, they collect the help and disappear. They never call back, never say thank you and never honour the person God used. Ingratitude closes doors that prayer opened.

When you appreciate your helpers, you encourage them to help you again and to help others. And above all, return to God with thanksgiving, because He is the One who sent them.

Finally, beloved, as you pray for the one person, never forget that God has already given you a Helper who will never forsake you. Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever” (John 14:16).

The word Comforter speaks of one called alongside to help. People may disappoint you, but the Holy Spirit will not. People may forget you, but He will bring all things to your remembrance.

People may not know the way, but He will guide you into all truth (John 16:13). People may not know how to pray for you, but “the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26).

So even before your one human helper appears, you are not alone. The greatest Helper is already living inside you. Lean on Him, listen to Him and obey Him, and He will lead you straight to every person God has prepared for your lifting.

THE WORD FOR YOU TODAY

Beloved, God has not forgotten you. Somewhere, in a place you may not yet know, God has positioned one person for your lifting. It may be a man or a woman, rich or poor, old or young, important or unknown. As you pray, as you move, as you remain humble and faithful, that person shall locate you, and you shall locate them. And as you wait, keep your eyes on the Lord, for He is the One who stood with Paul when all men forsook him, and He will stand with you. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

PERSONAL CHALLENGE

Spend time today asking God specifically for your destiny helpers. Write down the areas of your life where you need one person: career, marriage, ministry, finances, health or direction. Pray over each one by name, and ask the Holy Spirit to make you sensitive when that person appears.

EVANGELISM CHALLENGE

Be somebody’s Andrew today. Find one person and bring them to Jesus. Someone around you has been saying “I have no man” for years. Introduce them to the Jesus, the Helper who never fails.

54. Every spirit of ingratitude in my life, be uprooted by fire, in the name of Jesus.

55. Every bridge of help I have burned, Lord, rebuild it by Your mercy, in Jesus’ name.

56. Every false helper waiting to enter my life with chains in their pocket, be exposed tonight, in the name of Jesus.

57. Holy Spirit, reveal to me in my dreams the people You have assigned to help me.

58. Lord, warn me in my dreams about every wrong connection, and give me grace to obey.

59. Every prison holding my Joseph destiny, open by fire tonight, in the name of Jesus.

60. Lord, reward every person who has ever helped me; let their own lives never lack helpers.

61. Angels of the living God, go ahead of me and prepare the way for my helpers.

62. Fire of the Holy Ghost, guard my connections, my destiny and my home all through this night.

63. I shall wake up into divine connection, supernatural favour and open doors, in the name of Jesus.

AFRICAN PROVERB

“A single bracelet does not jingle.”

Meaning: A bracelet makes its music only when it meets another. In the same way, much of what God has placed in you will only come alive when you are connected to the right person. Isolation silences gifts; divine connection makes them sound. Do not despise the people God sends, and do not withhold yourself from those who need you.

CLOSING REFLECTION

Beloved, heaven has not forgotten you. The thirty eight years at Bethesda ended in one moment when Jesus walked by. The two years in Joseph’s prison ended with one sentence from a butler. Your story can change in one day through one person.

So pray for your helpers, position yourself, honour the vessels God sends, and become a helper to others. But above all, lift your eyes to the Man Christ Jesus. When no man is available, He is enough. And when He says “Rise,” no pool, no delay and no destiny thief can hold you down. Stay blessed, stay connected, and stay on fire!
