Topic: The Power of Obeying Prophetic Instructions

Opening Scriptures (KJV)

2 Kings 5:9–14

“So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me… Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.”

Luke 5:4–6

“Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.”

Memory Verse

2 Chronicles 20:20, “And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”

EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: August 7, 2026 – The Power of Obeying Prophetic Instructions

A prophetic instruction is not just any word. It is a specific word from God, given to a person, for a particular purpose, and for a particular season. It is a word that carries your name and embed your next level on it. God may not be talking to the whole world at that moment. He is talking to you.

This word can come in different ways. It can come through the written Word of God as you are reading your Bible. It can come through the mouth of a true servant of God who carries genuine anointing. It can come through a dream in the night. It can come through a vision. Or it can come as that quiet, inward witness of the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart, that small voice that will not let you rest until you obey.

Now hear me. That instruction is not just words. It carries divine authority. It is not advice that you can take or leave. It is a command from Heaven, and it is designed to move you from where you are right now to the very place God has already prepared for you.

Somebody said it well: that prophetic instruction is carrying the solution to your problem. It is carrying the secret to your next level. The breakthrough you are crying for, the promotion you are fasting for, the healing you are seeking, may already be sitting inside an instruction you received but you have refused to obey.

Why does God give instruction at all? He gives it to prepare you. He gives it to alert you before trouble comes. He gives it to preserve you from danger you cannot even see with your natural eyes. God is not wasting His time talking to you. When He speaks, He is working ahead of your life to protect you and to position you.

Many people ignore very important things without even realizing what they are doing. Paying attention to prophetic instruction is part of how God leads His children, but people take it for granted. They hear the word and they move on with their life as if nothing was said.

Understand this. A prophetic instruction is a word of the Spirit, given to you by the Spirit, and it is directed to you, for you. It is personal. It may come directly from the Spirit of God speaking inside you, or it may come through someone that God has placed in a position of leadership and influence over your life, your pastor, your spiritual father, a true prophet.

Let me give you an example. Maybe the Lord is telling you to fast for a certain number of days. But in your mind, you are saying, this is not really necessary. Maybe you refused to fast completely, or you start it and you stop before the time is complete. Then, not long after, something unpleasant happens in your life.

You struggle, you suffer, you wonder why. And you don’t even connect it to that instruction you neglected. My brother, my sister, these things are connected more than you think. Don’t take them lightly. It could also be a spiritual instruction your pastor gave to you personally, or to the whole congregation.

Whatever it is, treat it as important, because it is as important to your life. When God gives you a prophetic instruction, when He gives you guidance, it is for your own good to follow it through. I need you to hear this clearly. Your entire destiny may be tied to that one instruction.

Your next level, your promotion, your greatness, may be waiting on the other side of your obedience. Not your prayer. Not your fasting. Your obedience. Never, ever underestimate the power of the prophetic word. One word from God, when obeyed, can change your life forever. And you must remember, God’s Word will never return to Him empty.

The Bible tells us in Isaiah 55:10 and 11 that as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return without watering the earth, so is the word that goes out from the mouth of God. It will not return void. It will accomplish what He sent it to do.

There is something you must understand about obedience to prophetic instruction, it does not wait for your convenience. It does not wait when you are okay. God does not consult your calendar before He speaks to you. He does not ask if the economy is favourable, if your spouse has agreed, if you have finished planning.

He gives the instruction, and He expects your response immediately. Not next month. Not when you stop agreeing at someone. I want you to look at the man Naaman in the Bible. A great man, a mighty man of valour, captain of the host of the king of Syria, but he had leprosy.

When Elisha sent him a simple instruction, go and dip yourself seven times in the river Jordan, Naaman got angry. He said, are not the rivers of my own country better than this? He nearly missed his healing because of pride. Beloved, pride is the number one killer of obedience.

When God gives you a simple instruction and it does not match your class, your status, your understanding, you begin to reason it away. You say, is this how God will talk to me? Is this the way my healing will come? And while you are busy reasoning, your miracle is standing at the door, waiting for you to simply obey.

Naaman’s servants were wiser than their master that day. They said to him, if the prophet had asked you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more when he says to you, wash and be clean? Sometimes the instruction God gives you will look too small, too simple, too ordinary for the size of your problem.

But do not despise the day of small obedience. It was after the seventh dip, not the first, not the third, not the sixth, but the seventh, that his flesh came again like the flesh of a little child. Partial obedience will not give you a full miracle. God is not interested in your effort, He is interested in your completion and faithfulness.

I want to also remind you of Noah. When God gave him the instruction to build the ark, nobody around him understood it. There was no cloud in the sky, no sign of rain, but Noah did not argue with Heaven.

The Bible records it simply, thus did Noah, according to all that God commanded him, so did he. No addition, no subtraction, no negotiation. That is the obedience that saves a man when judgement is coming. That is the obedience that separates those who hear from those who both hear and do.

Beloved, what instruction is God waiting for you to obey? Is it to forgive somebody you have been holding a grudge against? Is it to leave a relationship that is dragging your destiny backward? Is it to return something that does not belong to you?

Is it to start that ministry, make that call, take that step you have been avoiding for fear of what people will say? Whatever it is, I decree over your life today, this is your season of quick obedience, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Every day you sit on an unobeyed instruction, you are giving the enemy legal ground to hold your blessing hostage. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes that because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

In the same way, because judgement does not fall the very day you disobey an instruction, you begin to think it does not matter. But it matters. Heaven is keeping record.

Look again at the story of Saul in 1 Samuel 15. God gave him a clear instruction through Samuel, but he utterly destroy everything, and spare nothing. But Saul, in his own wisdom, spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, and he kept King Agag alive. When Samuel confronted him, Saul did not even see anything wrong.

He said, I have performed the commandment of the Lord. He thought partial obedience was still obedience. But Samuel gave him one of the most sobering statements in all of Scripture, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you from being king.

Beloved, that is a heavy word. Saul lost his kingdom, not because he did nothing, but because he did not do everything he was told. Some of you reading this today are like Saul. You have done ninety percent of what God asked you to do, and you are wondering why the full blessing has not come.

It is because God is not counting your effort, He is counting your completion. The missing ten percent is exactly where the enemy is standing, blocking your breakthrough. Go back and finish what God told you to do.

One of the greatest tragedies in the Christian life is not the absence of prophecy but the neglect of divine instruction. Many people desire miracles, breakthroughs, healing, promotion, and restoration, yet they overlook the simple instructions God gives them.

They continue praying about the same issue while refusing to obey what God has already spoken. Very often, the key to the miracle is hidden inside the instruction.

Prophetic instructions are rarely given to make sense to the human mind. They are designed to test our faith and obedience. If every instruction could be fully explained by human reasoning, there would be little room for faith.

God often chooses simple and unexpected acts so that when the miracle happens, the glory belongs to Him alone. The devil understands the power of obedience; therefore, one of his greatest assignments is to make people ignore, delay, question, or despise God’s instructions.

He fills their hearts with doubt, pride, and excuses. He whispers, “It is not important,” “You can do it later,” or “There are easier ways.” Many destinies have suffered unnecessary delays because people postponed the very instruction that was meant to move them into their next season.

Sometimes God’s instruction is to go, sometimes it is to wait, sometimes it is to give, sometimes it is to forgive, sometimes it is to pray, and sometimes it is simply to remain still. The instruction may not always be dramatic, but it is always purposeful.

Every instruction from God is connected to His perfect plan for your life. There are believers who keep asking God for fresh revelation while neglecting the last instruction He gave them. God often expects us to be faithful with what we already know before entrusting us with greater direction.

If you ignore today’s instruction, you may not be ready for tomorrow’s assignment. Obedience in small matters prepares you for greater responsibilities in God’s Kingdom.

However, believers must also exercise spiritual discernment. Not every voice claiming to be prophetic is from God. The Bible commands us to “try the spirits whether they are of God” (1 John 4:1).

Every prophetic instruction should agree with the written Word of God, exalt Jesus Christ, produce the fruit of righteousness, and never manipulate, exploit, or lead people into sin. Genuine prophetic ministry points people closer to Christ, not merely to the personality of the messenger.

Many times, the answer to your prayers is not another prophecy but your obedience to the instruction that God has already given. Every prophetic instruction carries a purpose. Some are meant to prepare you for the blessings ahead.

Others are given to protect you from danger, preserve your destiny, expose the enemy’s plans, correct your direction, or position you for your next level. In many cases, the miracle is hidden inside the instruction.

One of the greatest mistakes many believers make is treating prophetic instructions casually. Some hear God’s direction but postpone obedience. Others question it, modify it, or ignore it altogether because it does not make sense to their natural mind.

Unfortunately, delayed obedience often becomes delayed blessings, and partial obedience can lead to partial results. There are believers praying for open doors while ignoring the instruction that God has already given them.

They keep asking for another word when heaven is waiting for them to obey the first one. God is not the author of confusion. If He has spoken clearly through His Word or by His Spirit, our responsibility is to obey.

For example, the Holy Spirit may impress it upon your heart to set aside time for fasting and prayer. You may feel that the instruction is unnecessary or inconvenient, so you ignore it.

Later, you encounter a serious challenge that could have been overcome through the spiritual preparation God was leading you into. You may never immediately connect the two events, yet God’s instruction was meant to prepare and preserve you before the battle arrived.

At other times, your pastor, acting under the leading of the Holy Spirit, may call the congregation to a period of fasting, prayer, thanksgiving, restitution, or sacrificial giving. Some people participate wholeheartedly, while others dismiss it as an ordinary church programme.

They fail to realize that God often uses such moments to release grace, avert danger, or position His people for uncommon breakthroughs. Never despise a Spirit-led instruction simply because it seems ordinary.

Beloved, every believer must also walk in biblical discernment. I say this because not every voice parading itself as prophetic is actually speaking for God. Any instruction you receive must be weighed against the Scriptures, because God will never contradict His own written Word. He is not a God of confusion.

A genuine prophetic instruction will always glorify Christ, it will always push you toward holiness, and it will always produce the fruit of righteousness in your life, not fear, not manipulation, not confusion.

If what you are hearing is making you afraid of a man rather than reverent before God, if it is controlling you rather than liberating you, then you must question its source.

Now hear me, beloved. Your next level may be hidden inside your next act of obedience. I need you to receive that. There are doors that no amount of prayer alone will open until you get up and obey what God has already told you.

There are battles you will keep fighting, year after year, that will not end until you follow the direction Heaven has already given you. There are blessings sitting at the edge of your life right now, not because God is reluctant to release them, but because His own children have not answered His voice.

Understand this clearly, the power is not merely in hearing a prophetic word. Many people have heard powerful words and remained exactly where they were. The power is in the obeying.

A prophetic word only produces results when it is received with faith and followed with action. You can have all the faith in the world, but if that faith does not translate into obedience, it remains incomplete, it remains a seed that was never planted.

So beloved, never underestimate the power of one word from God. One instruction, obeyed, can redirect an entire destiny. It can restore years that seemed wasted. It can preserve your life from danger you never even saw coming. It can force open doors that looked utterly impossible.

It can usher you straight into the very purpose God ordained for you before you were born. This is why the Scripture declares with such confidence, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11, KJV).

God’s word is not sent to fail. It is sent to prosper. Your part is simply to obey it. Somebody reading this today has an instruction from God that has been sitting untouched for months, maybe even years. It could be as simple as, “call that person and reconcile.” It could be, “stop that business partnership immediately.”

It could be, “give that offering you have been postponing.” It could be, “wake up at that hour and pray.” It could be open up your problem to that person. ”It could just be restrict sharing some information with that person”.

Whatever it is, I want you to understand that the longer you refuse to take prophetic move, the more frustrating you will become. God is not slow in fulfilling His promise to you, but He is waiting for your cooperation, because He works with willing and obedient hearts.

Many people can point to a moment in their lives when one act of obedience changed everything. Abraham obeyed God’s instruction to leave his father’s house without knowing his destination, and that single step of faith marked the beginning of a covenant that would bless generations.

Ruth obeyed the counsel of Naomi and found herself in the lineage of Jesus Christ. Elijah instructed the widow of Zarephath to give from her little supply, and God sustained her throughout the famine. Time and again, the Scriptures show that God’s extraordinary blessings often follow ordinary acts of obedience.

God’s instructions are not given to make life difficult but to position His children for His best. Just as a loving father instructs his child to avoid danger, God gives instructions because He sees what we cannot see. He knows the beginning from the end.

What appears to be a delay in your eyes may actually be God’s protection. What looks like a closed door today may be preventing you from entering a place of destruction. Therefore, never measure God’s instructions by your feelings; measure them by His wisdom and His faithfulness.

Beloved, there are moments when your breakthrough is not waiting for another prayer but for another level of obedience. God is looking for people who will trust His voice above their own experience.

Your experience may say, “It cannot happen.” Your emotions may say, “It is too late.” People may say, “There is no hope.” But when God speaks, His Word has the power to reverse every negative situation.

Another reason many people miss prophetic instructions is because they are looking for spectacular signs while God is speaking through simple acts of obedience. Naaman almost missed his healing because the instruction to dip seven times in the River Jordan seemed too ordinary.

Imagine if he had returned home in pride. His leprosy would have remained. It was not the water that healed him, it was his obedience to God’s instruction.

There are times when prophetic instructions require sacrifice. They may challenge your comfort, your schedule, your finances, or your personal plans. Peter had to leave his fishing nets to follow Jesus. Matthew left his tax office. Elisha left his oxen to answer God’s call.

Every act of obedience costs something, but the reward of obedience is always greater than the sacrifice. You may lose temporary comfort, but you will gain eternal purpose and lasting blessings.

One dangerous habit among believers is selective obedience. Some obey the instructions they like while ignoring the ones that require change or sacrifice. Partial obedience is still disobedience.

King Saul spared what God had commanded him to destroy, believing that he could improve on God’s instruction. His disobedience cost him the kingdom. God desires complete obedience because He knows that His instructions are perfect and complete.

Prophetic instructions also require humility. Pride makes people believe they know better than God or that they do not need anyone’s counsel.

Naaman almost missed his healing because he considered Elisha’s instruction too simple. It was only when he humbled himself and obeyed that he received his miracle. Never allow pride to rob you of what obedience can produce.

As believers, we must develop hearts that are quick to obey God. The longer we delay obedience, the easier it becomes to justify disobedience. Every delayed instruction gives room for doubt, fear, and distraction.

When God has made His will clear through His Word and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, respond with faith rather than hesitation. Always remember that prophetic instructions are not magical formulas.

They do not replace a relationship with God, nor do they guarantee blessings simply because an action is performed. Their power lies in obedient faith directed toward God. The focus should never be the instruction itself but the Lord who gives it. True obedience flows from love, trust, and reverence for God.

Never despise a simple instruction from God. The size of the instruction does not determine the size of the miracle. Sometimes the greatest testimonies begin with the smallest acts of obedience.

It is also important to understand that the devil fights prophetic instructions because he knows where they will take you. Satan is not always afraid of your prayers; he is afraid of your obedience. He knows that once you obey God, chains will be broken, doors will open, destinies will be restored, and God’s promises will begin to manifest in your life.

That is why distractions, excuses, procrastination, pride, doubt, and unbelief often arise immediately after God speaks. The enemy wants you to delay what God has instructed because delayed obedience can delay divine visitation.

Every day you postpone obedience is another day you postpone certain blessings attached to that instruction. Learn to obey God promptly. Partial obedience is still disobedience. Delayed obedience is not complete obedience.

The safest place for any believer is to walk in immediate and wholehearted obedience to the voice of God. Always remember this principle: God is more committed to directing your life than you are to discovering His will.

He is a loving Father who delights in leading His children. If your heart is sincere, if you remain prayerful, and if you stay grounded in His Word, He is faithful to show you the path you should follow.

Perhaps God has been speaking to you about something for weeks, months, or even years. Do not harden your heart. Do not ignore His prompting. The instruction you have been postponing may be the very key that unlocks your next testimony.

Beloved, whenever God gives you an instruction, do not argue with it, postpone it, or modify it to suit your convenience. Obey it promptly, completely, and joyfully. Your next testimony may be hidden in your next act of obedience.

Your breakthrough may not be waiting for another prophecy; it may be waiting for your response to the instruction God has already given you. Those who honour God’s voice will always discover that His instructions are not burdens, they are divine keys that unlock extraordinary blessings.

May you receive the grace to recognize God’s voice, the humility to trust His wisdom, and the courage to obey Him without hesitation. As you walk in obedience, may every prophetic instruction become a stepping stone into God’s divine purpose for your life, in Jesus’ name.

Remember, every genuine prophetic instruction from God carries the seed of your miracle, but only obedience brings that seed to harvest.

May you never miss your season because of stubbornness. May you never reject the instruction that carries your breakthrough. May the Holy Spirit give you a listening ear, a discerning heart, and the grace to obey God’s voice promptly.

As you walk in faithful obedience to the Lord and His Word, may every instruction He gives become a pathway to His purpose, His favour, His protection, and His abundant blessings in your life. Amen.

Prophetic Instruction

Today, set aside a quiet moment to seek the face of God without distractions. Ask Him sincerely to reveal the next step He wants you to take concerning your spiritual life, family, career, ministry, or destiny. Whatever instruction He confirms through His Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit, determine to obey it without delay. Do not allow fear, excuses, or human reasoning to stand between you and your obedience. As you honour God’s voice, every closed door shall open, hidden blessings shall be revealed, and the Lord shall establish you in the place He has prepared for you. Remember, your next breakthrough may be waiting on your next act of obedience.

Prophetic Declaration

I declare that your ears shall be opened to hear the voice of God clearly, in the mighty name of Jesus. From today, you shall not miss any divine instruction that is connected to your destiny, in the name of Jesus.

Every power assigned to make you ignore or despise God’s direction shall lose its hold over your life, in the name of Jesus.

I declare that where others make costly mistakes through disobedience, the Lord shall guide your steps into wisdom and victory, in the name of Jesus.

The Holy Spirit shall give you spiritual sensitivity to discern God’s timing, God’s will, and God’s purpose for every season of your life, in the name of Jesus.

Every power assigned to disconnect you from divine guidance shall be destroyed by the fire of the Holy Ghost, in the name of Jesus. I decree that you shall not miss the instruction or information that will announce your next level, in the name of Jesus.

Every prophetic word that God has ordained for your lifting shall come to pass without delay, in the name of Jesus. You shall not reject the counsel that God has ordained for your preservation, in the name of Jesus.

Every stubborn spirit resisting the work of the Holy Spirit in your life, come out and die, in the name of Jesus. The Lord shall give you divine wisdom to recognize His instructions even when they come in simple ways, in the name of Jesus.

The Holy Spirit shall preserve you from every false prophecy, counterfeit revelation, and deceptive voice. You shall walk in the truth of God’s Word.

I decree that you shall not take God’s instructions lightly. You shall not joke with the opportunities that Heaven places before you, in the name of Jesus.

Daily Reflection

(Ask Yourself)

  • Have I been sensitive to God’s voice, or have I ignored His instructions?
  • Is there any instruction from God’s Word or the Holy Spirit that I have delayed in obeying?
  • Am I willing to obey God even when His instruction does not make sense to my natural mind?
  • Is there any area of my life where God is calling me to repent, forgive, give, serve, or step out in faith?
  • Can God trust me with greater assignments if I am not faithful in obeying the simple instructions He gives today?
  • Do I value the counsel and biblical guidance of the spiritual leaders God has placed over my life?
  • If God asked me today to forgive someone, give sacrificially, wait patiently, change direction, or step out in faith, would I obey without hesitation?

Personal Challenge

Today, ask God to reveal any instruction you have ignored, delayed, or forgotten. If the Holy Spirit brings something to your remembrance whether it is to forgive someone, reconcile a relationship, pray consistently, serve faithfully, give generously, abandon a sinful habit, or take a step of faith, please make a firm decision to obey it without delay.

Set aside 30 minutes to pray and meditate on God’s Word, asking Him to sharpen your spiritual hearing and give you the grace to recognize His voice above every other voice.

Write down three instructions God has clearly given you through His Word, through people, revelation or by the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Beside each one, honestly write down whether you have obeyed, partially obeyed, or ignored it. Then begin taking practical steps to obey completely.

Throughout today, adopt this prayer: “Lord, make my heart quick to obey You.” Remember, your next breakthrough may not depend on receiving another prophecy but on faithfully obeying the instruction God has already given you.

Remember: One act of complete obedience can change the course of your life forever.
