EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: September 14, 2026 – When The Way Is Blocked

Have you ever reached a point in your life where it seemed as though there was nowhere else to go? You prayed, tried different options, spoke with people, made plans and waited patiently, yet nothing seemed to change.

Every direction appeared blocked. The opportunity you expected did not come. The person you thought would help you disappointed you. The application was rejected. The money you needed was unavailable.

The relationship did not work out. The business refused to move forward. You looked ahead and could not see any clear way out.

Beloved, a blocked way can be frustrating because you may know where you want to go but cannot see how to get there. Sometimes you may even begin to wonder whether God has forgotten you.

But Scripture repeatedly shows us that reaching a blocked road does not necessarily mean that your journey has ended.

Sometimes God opens the road; sometimes He shows you another road; sometimes He asks you to wait; and sometimes He gives you wisdom to deal with what is standing in your way.

The children of Israel experienced this in Exodus 14. Pharaoh and his army were behind them, the Red Sea was before them, and there appeared to be no escape route.

Humanly speaking, the way was completely blocked. They became afraid and began to complain to Moses. But what looked like the end of their journey became the place where they experienced one of the greatest demonstrations of God’s power.

God told Moses in Exodus 14:16 to stretch out his rod over the sea. The sea that looked like an impossible barrier became a pathway. The Israelites did not know how God would do it, but God already knew what He would do.

Beloved, never conclude that there is no solution simply because you cannot presently see the solution. Your knowledge is limited; God’s wisdom is not.

When one road closes, do not assume that your entire destiny has closed. There may be another legitimate route or to where you need to go.

Paul experienced this in Acts 16:6–10. He intended to preach in certain regions, but the Spirit prevented him. Later, through the Macedonian vision, he received direction concerning where to go.

The closed direction was not the end of Paul’s ministry; it actually redirected his ministry. Some people had wasted years standing before a door that God may not intend to open.

They become so emotionally attached to one method, one person, one company, one country, one business idea or one opportunity that they cannot imagine God helping them through another means.

Pray for what you desire, but if the door is not opening, leave it for God’s wisdom to handle it. The person you expected to help you may not actually be the person God will use. The job you expected may not be the opportunity that will eventually change your life.

The business model you started with may need adjustment and improvement. The course you originally wanted to study may not be the only route to a meaningful career.

Never worship the method through which you expect your answer to come. Trust God more than you trust the method.

There are doors that prayer alone will not prepare you to enter. If an opportunity requires a qualification, you may need to acquire it. If your business is losing customers because of poor service, improve the service.

If people are talking about your bad attitude, you need to address it. If your applications are repeatedly rejected because your CV is weak, you may need to improve your CV.

If communication problems is causing issues in your relationships, ask God the best way to revive the communication spirit dying;.

If poor financial decisions is causing hardship, learn how to be financially discipline. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”

Sometimes what appears to be an enemy blocking your way may actually be an area where you need greater knowledge, preparation, improvement or maturity. This does not make prayer unnecessary.

Rather, prayer should help you receive wisdom, clear direction, faith and courage to take the necessary steps to actualize your set goals.

Nehemiah 4:9 gives us a beautiful balance: “Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night.” They prayed, but they also acted. Beloved, pray against opposition, but also prepare for opportunity.

Not every closed door needs to be forced open immediately. Some things require timing. Habakkuk 2:3 says, “Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

There are seasons when you have done what you can reasonably do as a child of God, and yet the answer has not arrived. At such times, you may be frustrated, and as such, impatience can become dangerous.

A person desperate to marry may enter the wrong relationship because the expected door has not opened. Someone desperate for money may not truly understand the danger in wrong deals. Someone desperate to travel may use shortcuts to get there.

Someone desperate for ministry growth may begin manipulating people through giving. Someone desperate for success may compromise his or her values.

Beloved, do not allow a delayed answer to push you into a destructive shortcut. Waiting is difficult, but a wrong shortcut can create a problem greater than the delay you were trying to escape.

A blocked way does not always mean you should stop trying or moving. There are situations where persistence is necessary and needed to scale through.

Jesus taught us in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”

Persistence does not mean repeating the same mistake indefinitely. Wise persistence means learning, adjusting and continuing asking, seeking and knocking the door.

Beloved, when you cannot see a way, it does not mean that God cannot make one. A blocked way can leave a person confused and discouraged. You may begin to question your ability, your prayers, your calling and even God’s presence.

You may wonder whether you have made the wrong decision or whether the enemy is resisting you. When repeated efforts produce no result, frustration can easily tempt you to surrender.

However, a blocked road does not always mean that your journey has ended. Sometimes God opens a new way. Sometimes He asks you to wait. Sometimes He redirects you. At other times, He gives you the authority and courage to confront the obstruction.

A clear sign example is the children of Israel that faced a terrifying blockage after leaving Egypt. The Red Sea stood before them like a mountain, Pharaoh’s army were pursuing them from behind, and mountains surrounded the children of Israel.

They had no visible route of escape or other alternative. To move forward seemed impossible to them, returning to Egypt trapped their destiny.

The people became afraid and even blamed Moses for putting them in that condition. They asked why he had brought them out of Egypt to die in the wilderness. Their reaction reveals what pressure can do to the human heart.

When people cannot see a way forward, they may begin to regret the steps of faith they took or once celebrated. They may prefer familiar bondage to an unfamiliar journey of faith.

Moses told them in Exodus 14:13, “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD.” Then God instructed him to tell the people to rise and start moving forward towards the sea.

Though the sea had not yet opened when the instruction came. In that situation, God was teaching them that faith must be willing to obey before the entire road becomes visible.

Beloved, God does not need an existing road to take you to your destination. He can create one.

Isaiah 43:19 says, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Where human wisdom or efforts sees an ending, God may be preparing a new beginning.

There are different reasons why the way may become blocked in life, and wisdom requires that we do not give the same explanation or treatment to every situation.

Sometimes a blocked way may be the result of circumstances beyond your control. An economic problem may affect your business.

Someone may refuse to cooperate or do business with you. You may feel tired to continue the journey. You may want to slow down or wait. These are genuine circumstances that can interrupt our plans.

At other times, the problem may come from our own decisions. Poor planning can block our progress. Lack of preparation can cause us to lose opportunities.

Pride can prevent us from receiving useful advice. Disobedient to God’s voice can cause us to take the wrong path. Anger can destroy the relationships God has arranged for us. In situations like these, prayer is important, but prayer must be accompanied by correction.

Beloved, not every blocked road is the work of an enemy, and not every closed door is a sign of spiritual attack. Sometimes the way is blocked because God Himself has stood in the way.

Balaam experienced this directly: his own path was blocked by the angel of the Lord, not because Satan was resisting him, but because God was correcting his direction.

There are times when God blocks a road because He sees danger you cannot see. He may allow a relationship to end immediately because He knows or sees that it will not end well.

He may delay a journey because something is not ready. He may prevent a business agreement because the people involved are dishonest or have selfish motives. He may close one employment opportunity because another assignment is connected to your purpose.

A closed door can therefore be an act of divine mercy. When God blocks a road, prayer should not be used to force it open by fire. Ask Him for understanding and surrender your desire to His wisdom.

The disappointment may hurt today, but one day you may thank God for refusing to permit what you once desperately wanted.

Paul and his companions were forbidden by the Holy Ghost to preach in certain regions, not because the enemy had won a battle, but because the Spirit of God was steering them toward a different assignment altogether.

Today we are learning how to respond wisely when the way ahead of us suddenly closes, and how to discern whether that closed door is resistance from darkness or redirection from heaven.

When you are convinced that God has directed you, refuse to abandon His instruction merely because one resistance appears to challenge you. Pray against every power assigned to frustrate your progress.

Stand upon Isaiah 54:17, which says, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper.” Declare that every obstruction resisting the purpose of God will give way.

Many believers assume that every obstacle they encounter is automatically satanic. While the enemy does hinder God’s people at times, Scripture also shows us that God Himself sometimes blocks a path He never intended for us to take.

Balaam had received permission from men to go and curse Israel, and he was moving forward with that plan, yet the angel of the Lord stood in his way with a drawn sword.

This was not an attack from the enemy; it was divine intervention, correcting a man who was determined to walk toward disaster. Beloved, before you spend all your energy fighting a closed door, first ask God whether the door was ever meant to open for you in the first place.

Paul and his missionary companions experienced this pattern clearly in Acts 16. They attempted to preach in Asia, and the Holy Ghost forbade them. They tried Bithynia next, and again the Spirit did not permit them.

These were not failures, and they were not the result of satanic resistance; they were divine redirections, closing lesser doors so that Paul would eventually receive the vision of Macedonia and carry the gospel into Europe.

Beloved, when a door closes in your life, it may not be the end of your assignment; it may simply be God moving you away from a lesser path toward a greater one that you have not yet seen.

Not every blocked way is a redirection; some are genuine obstacles the enemy has placed to stop the purpose of God, and it is here that Isaiah 43:16 becomes your confession: “Thus saith the LORD, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters.”

The sea has no natural road, yet God carved one through it for Israel when Pharaoh’s army stood behind them and the water stood before them.

When you have prayed, sought God, and are convinced that a closed door is truly the work of the enemy and not the correction of heaven, you must stand in faith and declare that the God who made a way in the sea is well able to make a way through your own impossible situation.

Sometimes the greatest blockage is no longer outside the person; it has entered the person’s thinking. After repeated disappointment, people can become afraid to hope again. They begin rejecting opportunities before opportunities reject them.

They begin to see every person as wicked because of the trauma. They stop praying and fasting with expectations. They stop doing good or kind to others. They stop meeting people. They stop learning. They stop trying.

Proverbs 24:16 says, “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.” You may have been disappointed, but rise again beloved. You may have lost money, but find out the cause and pray.

You may have been rejected many times, but do not reject yourself or allow that to disqualify who you are in Christ. You may have experienced delay, but continue developing yourself while you wait.

A blocked road should make you seek direction; it should not make you surrender your entire future. But Ask yourself this question, “What part of this blockage is within my responsibility to address?” Perhaps you need better information.

Maybe an important document is missing. Maybe you need change people. You may need to apologise, repay a debt, complete your training, arrive earlier, save money or change your approach. Prayer should produce clarity and responsible action.

A road may also be blocked by fear. God may have opened the door, yet fear may be preventing you from walking through it. The Israelites reached the border of the Promised Land, but ten spies magnified the giants and discouraged the people.

The land was available, but unbelief stopped an entire generation from entering and possessing what God had promised them.

Fear can make an open road appear blocked. You may have the opportunity but lack the courage to act. You may have a good idea but fear criticism. You may be qualified but afraid of rejection.

You may even know what God is asking you to do but continue postponing your obedience. In such cases, the real barrier is not standing before you; it is hiding within your heart.

2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Ask God for courage.

You do not need to feel completely fearless before taking action. Courage means moving in obedience even when your emotions are uncomfortable.

Some roads are blocked by the wrong relationships. The people around you may constantly weaken your faith, distract your focus or discourage every attempt at progress.

Proverbs 13:20 says, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” Your association can either help you move forward or keep you circling the same mountain.

This does not mean you should abandon people merely because they disagree with you. Wise correction can save you from serious mistakes.

However, when a relationship continually pushes you towards sin, laziness, confusion and compromise, you must establish appropriate boundaries. Ask the Holy Spirit to connect you with people who will strengthen your purpose.

Unforgiveness can also become a blockage. A wounded heart may resist new relationships, new opportunities and new beginnings. Bitterness keeps you emotionally tied to the painful event.

Forgiveness does not excuse wrongdoing or remove necessary boundaries, but it releases your heart from the control of the offender. Hebrews 12:15 warns that a root of bitterness can trouble a person and defile many others.

Beloved, there are moments when the way remains blocked because the appointed time has not arrived. Habakkuk 2:3 says, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time… though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come.”

Waiting is not always evidence of failure. A delay may be preparing you, arranging circumstances or protecting the blessing from premature exposure.

Joseph saw dreams of greatness when he was young, but their fulfilment required a process. He passed through betrayal, slavery and imprisonment before entering the palace.

The prison looked like a blocked road, but God was developing the wisdom and character Joseph would need to govern Egypt.

Your waiting season should never become a wasted season. Perhaps you need to continue praying, learning, growing, and serving faithfully.

Use the waiting period to improve yourself and build the capacity required for the place you desire to enter. When the door finally opens, let it find you fully prepared.

There are people who have remained in the same situation for years because they continue applying the same solution to the same problem. When one method fails repeatedly, when you cry to Him, God can give you another strategy.

At Jericho, Israel did not conquer the city through the conventional method of breaking the wall with human strength. God gave Joshua specific instructions. Joshua 6 shows us that sometimes breakthrough requires following the right instruction.

Therefore, when the way is blocked, ask God for strategy. David did this repeatedly. Before fighting battles, he enquired of the Lord. In 2 Samuel 5:19, David asked whether he should go against the Philistines, and God told him to go. Later, when the Philistines returned,

David enquired again, but this time God’s instruction changed. In 2 Samuel 5:23, God told him, “Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them.” The enemy was similar, but the strategy was different.

This is a powerful lesson. Yesterday’s strategy may not always solve today’s problem. Do not become so attached to one method that you refuse to go for new wisdom.

The fact that something worked five years ago does not mean it is the only way God can lead you today. The fact that someone who gave you good counsel years ago may not mean he may still have another good counsel to deliver you now.

When the way is blocked, you must also learn patience. We live in a generation that wants everything immediately. If something does not happen quickly, people become discouraged. But some doors require preparation before they open.

Joseph received significant dreams while young, but he did not enter the palace the following morning. There was a process between the dream and the fulfilment. David was anointed king, yet he did not immediately sit on the throne.

Abraham received promises, but some required years of waiting. Delay is painful, but delay does not always mean denial.

Another important lesson is that you should not allow desperation to push you into wrong doors. When your way is blocked, avoid making desperate decisions.

Desperation can push people towards fraud, ungodly relationships, false prophets, occult practices or dangerous shortcuts.

The devil tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread and to gain kingdoms through worshipping him. Satan often offers an alternative route that appears quicker but demands disobedience.

A shortcut outside God’s will can become a longer journey into regret. Psalm 37:7 says, “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him.” Waiting upon God does not mean doing nothing. It means refusing to compromise while doing what wisdom requires.

Refuse to exchange your peace, purity or integrity for quick access. What God gives will not require you to abandon Him in order to possess it.

Another thing you must avoid when the way is blocked is comparison. You may watch people younger than you getting married, travelling, buying houses, having children, receiving promotions, growing ministries or succeeding in business.

Suddenly you begin asking, “God, what is wrong with me?” Nothing is gained by measuring your entire life against another person’s timetable. Galatians 6:4 says, “But let every man prove his own work.”

Their testimony should encourage you, not torment you. You may not know their entire journey, sacrifices, struggles or circumstances. But concentrate on what God has placed before you.

There are also times when the blocked way requires you to ask for help. Moses could not carry the responsibility of Israel alone. Jethro advised him in Exodus 18 to delegate responsibilities.

Pride can make a person suffer unnecessarily, feeling too big to ask, or prefer to endure the pains alone. You may need a mentor, counsellor, doctor, lawyer, financial adviser, teacher, business consultant, pastor, trusted friend or someone experienced in the area where you are struggling to help you.

Asking for appropriate help from people is not weakness or failure to rise. Some walls become smaller when someone with experience shows you where the door is.

Beloved, never forget what happened at the Red Sea. Israel saw water. God saw a highway. Israel saw Pharaoh approaching. God saw the final chapter of Pharaoh’s oppression over them. Israel saw nowhere to go. God said, “Go forward.”

Sometimes, your breakthrough begins when you stop staring at the obstacle and obey the next instruction. You may not know everything that will happen tomorrow. You may not know exactly how the entire journey will unfold. But you can ask, “Lord, what is the next responsible step?”

Praise is another powerful response when the way is blocked. In Joshua 6, the walls of Jericho stood between Israel and the next stage of their journey. God gave them an unusual instruction: they were to march around the city and eventually shout.

When they obeyed, the walls collapsed. The wall did not fall through human strength. It fell through obedience to divine instruction. Your breakthrough may be connected to an instruction that appears simple or unusual.

God may ask you to forgive, give, wait, move, speak, remain silent or begin again. Victory comes when you obey what He says.

When Paul and Silas were imprisoned, they prayed and praised God at midnight. Suddenly, an earthquake shook the prison, the doors opened and their chains fell off immediately.

Praise reminded them that God’s authority was greater than the prison. When you praise God in a blocked season, you declare that the barrier is over.

You should also learn to seek wise counsel. Proverbs 15:22 says, “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”

A mature believer, experienced professional or trusted mentor may see an alternative you have overlooked. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. God often answers prayer through the wisdom and assistance of others.

Nevertheless, avoid consulting too many conflicting voices. Constantly moving from one person to another can increase confusion. Choose counsellors whose lives demonstrate wisdom, integrity and godly fruit.

Compare every instruction with Scripture and pray for personal conviction. When the way is blocked, remain flexible about the method you are adopting while remaining faithful to the purpose.

You may have assumed that God would answer you through a particular person, organisation or country. When that channel closes, you may think everything has ended. Yet God is not limited to the method you imagined.

Elijah received food through ravens and later through a widow. When the brook dried up, God had already prepared another source for him.

The drying brook did not mean God had abandoned him; it meant the season and method of provision were changing. Never make a human channel your source. God may change the vessel while remaining faithful to His promise.

Beloved, perhaps you are standing before a Red Sea today. You have tried repeatedly, and nothing appears to be working in your life. Your resources are limited, your helpers are silent over your case and time seems to be running out.

Hear the Word of the Lord: remain calm and seek divine direction. The God who opened the sea has not lost His power and position. Everything happens for a reason. But pray until fear loses its grip over you.

Ask God whether you should wait, advance, correct something or take another route. Where the enemy is resisting you, stand in spiritual authority to resist them too.

If it seems your choices has created the blockage, please humble yourself and make the necessary correction. If it seems God has closed the road, worry no more, trust His wisdom and allow Him to redirect you properly.

A blocked way is not always the end of the journey. It may become the place where God reveals His power, changes your direction, strengthens your faith or introduces you to a road you never knew existed. Always keep your heart open, your faith alive and your steps obedient.

The Red Sea eventually opened. Jericho’s walls eventually fell. Peter’s prison gate opened by itself. Joseph eventually left the prison. The stone placed before the tomb of Jesus was rolled away. Therefore, refuse to conclude that your present obstruction is permanent.

God can open what people have closed, close what would destroy you and create a way where none exists. Your responsibility is to trust Him, obey His Word, reject fear and keep moving according to His direction. When God goes before you, no barrier can permanently cancel His purpose for your life.

Prophetic Declaration: Every evil barrier blocking your progress shall give way. The Lord will make a way for you in the wilderness, open the right doors and redirect you from every path of destruction. You will move forward and fulfil God’s purpose for your life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

 

PERSONAL CHALLENGE

Today, identify one area of your life where the way appears blocked. Instead of becoming discouraged or immediately blaming someone, prayerfully examine the situation. Ask yourself: What is causing this obstacle? Is there something I need to correct? Do I need more knowledge, preparation, patience, prayer, professional help, or a different strategy? Could God be redirecting me?

Write down one responsible step you can take today. It may be making an important phone call, submitting another application, correcting a mistake, seeking counsel, improving your skill, preparing a document, changing an ineffective strategy, or simply waiting patiently while continuing to pray.

Do not spend today staring at the obstacle. Ask God for direction and take the next wise step available to you. Remember, Israel saw the Red Sea as a blockage, but God turned the same sea into a pathway. What looks like the end may become the beginning of another direction.

A blocked way should not become a blocked life or destiny. Ask God for discernment to know whether you should wait, change direction, prepare better, keep knocking or stand firmly in prayer. Whatever the answer may be, refuse to surrender to discouragement.

 

EVANGELISM CHALLENGE

Today, reach out to someone who is discouraged because a door has closed or the way seems blocked in their life. Share Isaiah 43:19 with the person and remind them that God can make a way even where there appears to be no way. Encourage them not to surrender to fear, compromise, or hopelessness.

Use the opportunity to tell them about the hope found in Jesus Christ. If they have not accepted Christ, lovingly share the message of salvation with them and invite them to surrender their life to Jesus. Pray with them and encourage them to trust God while taking wise and responsible steps forward.

PRAYER ASSIGNMENT — MORNING

1. Father, give me discernment to know whether a blocked door in my life is correction, redirection, or attack, in Jesus name.

2. O Lord, if there is any path I am pursuing that You never intended for me, stop me now as You stopped Balaam, in Jesus name.

3. Father, if You are redirecting me toward a greater assignment, give me grace to trust the process, in Jesus name.

4. Every satanic obstruction standing between me and my God given purpose, be removed now, in Jesus name.

5. O Lord, make a way for me where I currently see no way, in Jesus name.

6. I decree that every sea before me shall part, and every mighty water shall become a path, in Jesus name.

7. Father, let me respond quickly to Your correction, and not resist it out of pride, in Jesus name.

8. O Lord, open every door that leads to my divine assignment, and shut every door leading to disaster, in Jesus name.

9. I reject the spirit of desperation that fights every closed door without first seeking Your face, in Jesus name.

10. Father, let me see clearly whatever You are trying to show me through every blocked path in my life, in Jesus name.

11. O Lord, let every closed door that is truly satanic be forced open by fire, in Jesus name.

12. I decree that no weapon of blockage or delay shall stand against the purpose of God for my life, in Jesus name.

13. Father, give me the humility to turn aside quickly, like the donkey of Balaam, when You are warning me, in Jesus name.

14. O Lord, let my Asia become my Macedonia; let every disappointment lead me to a greater door, in Jesus name.

15. I receive grace to trust You even when the path ahead of me looks completely blocked, in Jesus name.

16. Father, let every obstruction fashioned by the enemy against my breakthrough be dismantled today, in Jesus name.

17. O Lord, let me never fight against a door that You Yourself have closed for my protection, in Jesus name.
