MESSAGE: EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: May 24, 2026 – Life Is All About Taking Risks
Life is full of risks. Every day, people take one kind of risk or another either a risk that moves them closer to God’s purpose or a risk that leads them away from His will. The greatest danger in life is not always failure; sometimes it is refusing to move when God says, “Go.”
Do not be afraid to take the divine risk that will lead to your breakthrough. Every great testimony often begins with a step of faith. When God gives an instruction, He expects obedience, not excuses. Divine risk is not reckless behavior; it is acting in faith based on God’s direction and promises.
Jonah took a risk when he eventually obeyed God’s command to go to Nineveh. Peter took a risk when he stepped out of the boat and walked on water at the word of Jesus. Abraham took a risk when he left his father’s house without knowing where he was going. Esther took a risk when she appeared before the king uninvited to save her people. David took a risk when he confronted Goliath with nothing but faith in God. Their actions looked dangerous to men, but heaven backed them because they were acting according to God’s purpose.
Many people remain where they are because they are waiting for perfect conditions or a smooth ride. They want guarantees before they obey God. They want system that will not challenge them. They want certainty before they move. But faith often requires stepping forward or making the move first before you see the whole picture. If God has spoken, His word is your security.
There are books to write, ministries to start, businesses to launch, prayers to pray, evangelism to do, skills to learn, investment to involve in and opportunities to pursue. Fear has buried many destinies before they ever manifested. Some people are one act of obedience away from their breakthrough, but fear keeps them standing at the edge of their miracle.
Remember, every divine risk carries divine backing. When God orders your steps, He also supplies the grace, wisdom, strength, favor, and protection needed to fulfill His assignment. The Red Sea did not part before Israel moved; it parted as they moved forward in obedience.
Notice that God rarely reveals the entire journey at once. He usually reveals only the next step. If He showed us everything ahead, many people would become too overwhelmed or carried away; Therefore, God teaches us to walk by faith and not by sight. Faith trusts God one step at a time.
There are people today who know exactly what God wants them to do. Deep within their hearts, they have heard His instruction repeatedly. Yet they continue postponing obedience. They keep saying, “Tomorrow.” They keep waiting for a better time. They keep hoping for perfect conditions. But perfect conditions rarely exist.
Ecclesiastes 11:4 says: “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.” Do not allow fear of failure, criticism, death, rejection, what people may say or uncertainty to stop you. If the risk is inspired by God, rooted in His Word, and aligned with His purpose for your life, run with it; move forward with confidence. God specializes in supporting those who trust Him and those who are willing to take action immediately when necessary.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7. One of the greatest enemies of destiny is the fear of failure or fear of insecurity. Many people never start because they are afraid of making mistakes, they are afraid of losing their hard earned money. But failure is often a classroom where God teaches valuable lessons. Sometimes what looks like failure is simply preparation for greater success.
A person who never tries has already failed before beginning. Another enemy of divine risk is the fear of people’s opinions. Many people relied on people’s opinion before they move. Many destinies have been delayed unnecessarily because of the question, “What will people say?” The truth is that people will always have something to say whether you succeed or fail.
If you spend your life seeking everyone’s approval, you may never fulfill God’s purpose. When God called Noah to build the ark, people mocked him. When David confronted Goliath, his brothers criticized him. When Jesus carried out His ministry, many opposed Him. Yet they fulfilled their assignments because they focused on God’s approval rather than human applause.
Some people are praying for financial breakthrough, but they are afraid to start the business idea God placed in their hearts. Others desire spiritual growth, but they are afraid to surrender fully to God’s calling. Some know God is directing them to relocate, reconcile, invest, learn a new skill, preach the gospel, or pursue a vision, but fear continues to delay them. Every delay isn’t caused by Satan but majority by our fear of mistakes.
Faith is not the absence of fear; faith is moving forward toward your goals despite the challenges or limitations. Courage is not the presence of human strength; courage is obeying God in the midst of challenges. The presence of fear does not mean God is absent in our life. Sometimes fear appears because you are standing at the entrance of a new season. Fear appears because you have seen the road to your breakthrough or the solution to your problems
Whenever God asks you to take a divine risk, He never expects you to depend solely on your own strength, or ask random people about it. His grace accompanies His instructions. His provision follows His vision. His power supports His purpose. If God sends you to the wilderness, He will sustain you. If He calls you, He will definitely equip you. If He opens the door, He will give you the ability to walk through it.
Many miracles happen only after take that move. The priests carrying the ark stepped into the Jordan before the river parted. The widow poured out her little oil before multiplication occurred. Peter cast his net again before the miraculous catch arrived. Action activates many of God’s promises in our lives.
Perhaps God has been speaking to you about a project, a ministry, a career opportunity, a kingdom assignment, or a personal transformation. Do not allow fear to bury what God has planted within you. Great destinies are often discovered outside the comfort zone.
The cemetery is full of ideas that were never pursued, books that were never written, songs that were never sung, businesses that were never started, and ministries that were never launched because someone was afraid to take the first step. Do not let your destiny become another victim of fear.
When God says move, please move with confidence. When God says speak, speak with boldness. When God says start, start with joy. When God says go, go with faith. The God who called Abraham out of his father’s house, who preserved Daniel in the lions’ den, who delivered Peter from prison, and who raised Jesus from the dead is still able to support every divine assignment He gives.
If you wait for everything to be perfect before you move, you may wait forever. At some point, faith requires immediate action. Your future is often determined by the risks you are willing to take today under God’s direction. The difference between where you are and where God wants you to be may simply be one act of obedience. One prayer. One application. One sermon. One conversation. One good friend. One business idea. One act of forgiveness. One decision to trust God completely. One revelation.
Take the divine risk today. Trust God’s voice. Walk in faith. Obey His instructions to the fullest. Your breakthrough may be waiting on the other side of your obedience.
Your next level may require a risk. Your testimony may require courage to manifest. Your breakthrough may require total obedience. Your miracle may be waiting on the other side of the step you are afraid to take.
Take the risk that God has ordained for your destiny. Heaven will never abandon a man or woman who walks in obedience to God’s voice. Your breakthrough may be hiding behind the step of faith you are afraid to take. Trust God, move forward, and watch Him make a way where there seems to be no way.
Daily Reflection
Ask yourself these questions today:
- Is there a step of faith God has been asking me to take that I have been avoiding because of fear?
- Am I allowing past failures to stop me from pursuing new opportunities?
- Do I trust God’s promises more than my present circumstances?
- What opportunity has God placed before me that requires courage and obedience?
- Am I waiting for perfect conditions before obeying God?
- Is fear controlling my decisions more than faith?
- Have I prayed and sought God’s direction concerning the risks I am about to take?
- What talents, gifts, or ideas have I buried because I am afraid of criticism or rejection?
- Am I growing in faith, or am I remaining in my comfort zone?
- If God opened a major door for me today, would I be prepared to walk through it?
- What area of my life needs greater trust in God right now?
- Am I taking divine risks that honour God or avoiding them because of doubt?
