Topic: Why Some People Lose Their Blessings

Opening Scriptures

“And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL – May 23, 2026. Why Some People Lose Their Blessings

God is a God of blessing. From the beginning, He created man to prosper, increase, and succeed. However, many people receive blessings but fail to sustain them. Some lose opportunities, favour, relationships, spiritual gifts, positions, helpers, or divine promises because of wrong attitudes and careless living.

Esau lost his birthright because of impatience and lack of value for spiritual things. Samson lost his strength because he ignored divine instructions. Saul lost his throne because of disobedience and pride. These examples remind us that blessings can be lost when people become careless with the things God has entrusted to them.

One major reason people lose blessings is disobedience. God may give clear instructions, but some people ignore them because they feel they know better than God. Delayed obedience is dangerous. Partial obedience is also disobedience.

Many people pray for blessings, but not everyone knows how to maintain blessings. Some blessings are lost because of disobedience, pride, carelessness, wrong association, sin, impatience, and lack of gratitude. God can open a door, but a person’s attitude can close it.

When God blesses a man, He expects that blessing to draw him closer to Him, not far away from Him. Some people lose their blessings because after God lifts them, they forget the God who lifted them. They stop praying, stop serving, stop giving thanks, and begin to depend on their own strength.

A blessing that is not protected by obedience can be attacked. A testimony that is not covered with humility can attract pride. A door that is not maintained with wisdom can be lost through carelessness.

Beloved, blessings must be handled with wisdom. When God blesses you, remain humble. When God promotes you, remain prayerful. When God opens a door, remain obedient. Do not allow pride, sin, careless words, or wrong people to destroy what God has given you.

There are people God has blessed with good opportunities, but anger destroyed them. Some were blessed with divine helpers, but pride pushed those helpers away. Some received spiritual gifts, but compromise weakened their spiritual lives. Others were close to breakthrough, but impatience caused them to make destructive decisions.

One dangerous thing about losing blessings is that some people do not realize what they have lost until it is too late. The enemy knows the value of your blessing even when you do not know it yourself. That is why you must guard your destiny, prayer life, character, and relationship with God carefully.

When God blesses you, remain humble. Do not allow success to separate you from God. Avoid pride, because pride has destroyed many glorious destinies. Stay prayerful. Stay obedient. Stay watchful. Learn to appreciate every blessing God places in your life. Some people lose blessings because they complain too much and fail to recognize what heaven has already given them.

Another reason people lose blessings is wrong relationships and evil counsel. There are voices that can disconnect a person from divine favour. Be careful who speaks into your life. Not everyone around you wants to see your destiny prosper.

As a child of God, protect what heaven has committed into your hands. Protect your peace, your spiritual fire, your marriage, your ministry, your opportunities, and your divine purpose. What you fail to value may eventually leave your life one day.

Many people think the enemy attacks only people who are struggling in life. That is not true. Sometimes, the enemy attacks people more after they become blessed. When a person is rising, the devil studies their weaknesses. He waits for pride, anger, immorality, disobedience, careless speech, or spiritual weakness to enter their lives. That is why every blessing must be protected with prayer and wisdom.

Some people lose blessings because they no longer value spiritual discipline. Before the blessing came, they were prayerful, humble, committed, and desperate for God. But after the blessing arrived, their prayer life died. Some stop attending fellowship. Some stop reading the Bible.

Some become too busy for God. They begin to trust money, connections, or human strength instead of God. The same God they cried to during their wilderness season becomes the God they ignore during abundance.

Another reason people lose blessings is because of unguarded mouths. Some people talk too much about their blessings before they are established. Joseph shared his dream carelessly with those who hated him, and it brought envy and battles into his life. Not everybody around you can handle your testimony and keep secret things for long. Some people smile with you physically but fight you spiritually. Wisdom teaches a person when to speak and when to remain silent.

In addition, some people lose blessings because of wrong relationships. There are relationships that drain favour, peace, opportunities, and spiritual strength. Samson lost his glory because he refused to separate from Delilah. There are people whose assignment is to weaken others spiritually, emotionally, financially, or morally. A wrong friend, partner, adviser, or companion can become a doorway through which blessings are destroyed.

Bitterness and unforgiveness can also affect blessings. Some people allow anger, jealousy, offense, and hatred to fill their hearts. A bitter heart cannot carry divine peace for long. When a person refuses to forgive, they create spiritual pollution within themselves. God wants His children to walk in love and purity.

Ingratitude is another silent destroyer of blessings. When people stop thanking God, they begin to attract emptiness. Thanksgiving preserves blessings. Appreciation invites increase. There are people who focus so much on what they have not received that they ignore the miracles God has already done for them. A grateful heart attracts more favour from heaven.

Pride remains one of the greatest destroyers of blessings. When people begin to feel too important to obey God, correction becomes difficult. Pride makes people forget the source of their blessings. Nebuchadnezzar lost honour because pride entered his heart. Herod received judgment because he accepted glory that belonged to God. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

The Bible says in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Ignorance can make a person lose what heaven gave them. That is why believers must continue learning, growing, praying, and seeking God daily.

Always remember this: it is easier to lose something valuable when you stop valuing it. Never become careless with your salvation, your family, your ministry, your opportunities, your divine helpers, or your spiritual gifts.

May your blessings not become temporary. May God preserve your testimony. May no power steal what God has given you. In Jesus’ name. Stay humble before God, remain prayerful, and continue walking in obedience. The God who blessed you is also able to preserve your blessings until your testimony becomes permanent.

Daily Reflection

Ask yourself these questions today:

  • Am I still grateful to God for the blessings He has given me?
  • Is there any act of disobedience affecting my spiritual life or destiny?
  • Have I allowed pride to take the place of humility?
  • Am I protecting my blessings through prayer and holiness?
  • Are there wrong relationships or habits pulling me away from God’s purpose?
  • Have I become impatient with God’s timing?
  • Is my lifestyle helping my destiny or destroying it?
  • Am I using my gifts and opportunities for the glory of God?
  • What can I change today to preserve my blessings and walk closer with God?
