EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: July 20, 2026 – Stay Committed Until the End

Staying committed until the end is a great virtue. It is not everyone who has the grace, discipline, and determination to finish well. Many people are excited at the beginning of a journey, but only a few remain faithful until the end. Starting is important, but finishing well is even more important.

God is not only interested in how you begin your race; He wants you to complete it with faith, integrity, and obedience. One of the greatest weapons the devil uses against believers is discouragement. He knows that if he cannot stop you from starting your dreams, he will try to stop you from finishing it.

Many people begin to work towards their purpose with passion, excitement, and commitment, but along the way they become weary, distracted, offended, or discouraged.  They concluded that there is no need to pushing forward, praying, fasting, or being kind towards others. They easily abandon their prayer life, and stop trusting God.

Commitment is one of the greatest proofs of genuine faith. It is easy to serve God when everything is going well.  It is easy to pray when answers come quickly.  It is easy to give thanks when there is abundance. But true commitment is revealed when life becomes difficult. Your faithfulness to God should not depend on whether life is comfortable or uncomfortable.

God is looking for believers who will remain loyal to Him in every season. God is not only interested in how you start; He is interested in how you finish.  The Christian race is not a sprint but a marathon. It requires endurance, patience, obedience, faith, and unwavering commitment. The crown is not given to those who start well alone, but to those who remain faithful until the very end.

The devil does not fight people who are not moving forward. He fights those who are running the race with purpose, because he knows that a believer who endures to the end cannot be stopped.  Many people have started businesses but abandoned them when challenges arose. Some began ministry with great zeal but quit because of criticism, betrayal, or lack of support.

Others entered marriage with love and commitment but allowed unforgiveness, pride, or discouragement to weaken their relationship. Some were once fervent in prayer, active in church, and passionate about evangelism, but today they have become spiritually cold.  Jesus Himself is the greatest example of commitment. He knew the suffering that awaited Him in Jerusalem.

He knew He would be betrayed, mocked, beaten, rejected, and crucified.  Yet He remained committed to the Father’s will. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed with great agony, but His conclusion was, “Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”  He did not abandon His assignment because it was painful. Because Jesus remained faithful to the end, mankind received salvation through His sacrifice.

If Christ had stopped halfway, redemption would never have been accomplished today. Some people become discouraged because they compare their journey with others.  They see someone getting married before them, building a house before them, receiving promotions before them, or achieving success more quickly. If you desire to remain committed until the end, you must cultivate a daily relationship with God.

Spend time in prayer, study His Word consistently, obey His instructions, and surround yourself with people who strengthen your faith. Life teaches us that people begin differently. Some people have a poor beginning but end with great testimonies. Joseph started as a rejected son, became a slave and a prisoner, yet he finished as a ruler in Egypt.

Ruth began as a poor widow in a foreign land, but she ended as one of the women through whom the lineage of Jesus Christ came. Jabez was born in sorrow, yet God changed his story because he sought the Lord. Never allow your present situation to determine your future. With God, a difficult beginning can still produce a glorious ending. On the other hand, some people begin well but fail to finish well.

King Saul started with humility and enjoyed God’s favour, but pride, impatience, and disobedience ruined his reign. Solomon was blessed with extraordinary wisdom, wealth, and honour, yet in his later years his heart drifted because he allowed ungodly influences to draw him away from wholehearted devotion to God. Judas Iscariot walked with Jesus, witnessed miracles, and heard His teachings, but he did not finish faithfully.

These examples remind us that yesterday’s success does not guarantee tomorrow’s victory.  Every day requires fresh commitment to God. One of the saddest experiences in life is to labour faithfully for many years and then give up just before the reward arrives. Imagine someone who patiently builds a relationship, overcomes many challenges, and reaches the point of marriage, only to abandon the commitment that marriage requires.

Or someone who studies diligently for years but quits just before graduation. Such situations show that perseverance is needed not only to reach a destination but also to remain faithful after arriving there. Every new season of life calls for renewed commitment. Avoid distractions that pull your heart away from Christ, and do not allow temporary trials to make you abandon your eternal purpose.

When you become weary, ask God for fresh strength instead of giving up. When you fail, repent quickly and rise again. When people disappoint you, keep your eyes on Jesus, not on man. Remember that your reward comes from God, not from people. Many people struggle because they have developed the habit of quitting. They quit praying when answers seem delayed.

They quit businesses too quickly. They quit marriages without seeking God’s wisdom or making sincere efforts toward restoration. They quit ministry after criticism. They quit their dreams after one disappointment. While there are situations where stepping away from something is wise or necessary, a pattern of giving up at every challenge can prevent a person from experiencing the fullness of God’s purpose.

Comparison produces impatience, envy, and dissatisfaction. Remember that God writes a different story for every individual. Joseph’s journey was different from David’s. Moses’ journey was different from Joshua’s.  Your assignment, timing, and reward are uniquely designed by God. Stay focused on your own race. Faithfulness in little things prepares you for greater responsibilities.

Before David became king over Israel, he faithfully cared for his father’s sheep. Before Joseph governed Egypt, he faithfully managed Potiphar’s house and later the prison.  Before Elisha received a double portion of Elijah’s anointing, he faithfully served his master. Never despise the season of preparation. God often tests our commitment in small assignments before entrusting us with greater ones.

Finishing well requires daily dependence on God. It requires humility when you succeed, patience when you wait, courage when you are opposed, and faith when you cannot yet see the outcome. Ask God every day for the grace to remain faithful. Guard your heart against pride, offence, weariness, compromise, and discouragement. Those who stay close to God receive strength to keep moving forward.

Every small act of faith keeps the fire burning until your strength is renewed. The prophet Isaiah declared that those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. God gives fresh grace to those who refuse to give up. Today’s devotional reminds us that every worthwhile journey will face opposition. Every God-given assignment will encounter challenges.

The key to victory is not merely starting; it is remaining faithful until God’s work in your life is complete. God is looking for believers who will remain steadfast in prayer, faithful in service, obedient to His Word, and committed to their divine assignment until the very end.  The Christian race has many distractions, but those who keep their eyes on Christ will receive the reward that He has prepared for them.

Never allow comfort, success, failure, persecution, or delay to separate you from your commitment to God. Always remember that it is better to finish faithfully than to start impressively.  Many begin with excitement, but only those who endure with patience will enjoy the fullness of God’s promises. Therefore, remain steadfast, remain prayerful, remain obedient, and remain committed.

Your labour in the Lord is never in vain. The God who called you is faithful, and He will surely strengthen you to finish well. Beloved, never stop because the journey has become difficult. The road to destiny is not always smooth, but God has promised never to leave nor forsake those who trust Him. Hold firmly to His promises.

Keep your eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Finisher of our faith. The God who called you is faithful, and He will give you the grace to finish well. On the last day, may you hear those glorious words from your Lord: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

Prayer Assignment (Morning)

1. O Lord my Father, give me the grace to remain faithful to You until the end, in Jesus’ name.

2. Every spirit of discouragement assigned to make me abandon my divine assignment, die by fire, in Jesus’ name.
