Uprooting Evil Plantations – EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: October 30, 2026

Beloved, an evil plantation is anything planted in a person’s life that contradicts the will, the character and the purpose of God. Jesus made a powerful declaration in Matthew 15:13: “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.”

When He spoke those words, He was addressing the traditions of the Pharisees that had taken the place of the commandments of God. But the principle He established reaches far beyond that moment.

Whatever God has not established in your life does not have the right to remain there permanently. It may have been there for years. It may have grown deep roots. It may even feel like a part of who you are.

But if your heavenly Father did not plant it, heaven has already signed its eviction notice. When evil plantations take root in a person’s life, they compete with what God has planted. They draw strength away from your faith.

They occupy the space in your heart that should be filled with the presence of God. They block the light of His Word from reaching the deepest parts of your soul. Jesus explained this in the parable of the sower when He spoke of seed that fell among thorns.

He said that “the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful” (Mark 4:19). The Word was good, the seed was good, but something else was growing beside it and choking it.

This is why some believers hear the Word of God week after week and yet see little fruit. The seed is falling, but it is competing with weeds.

Beloved, every life is like a field. God plants good seeds in it: His Word, His promises, His gifts, His purpose and His destiny for you. But the Bible also reveals that there is an enemy who plants seeds that God never planted.

Jesus said, “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way” (Matthew 13:25).

These are evil plantations. They are things in a person’s life, body, mind, family, marriage, finances or destiny that God did not plant. They may have been planted by the enemy, by an ungodly foundation, by sinful choices, by wrong words, by wrong associations or by spiritual attacks.

And because they have roots, they keep growing back no matter how many times the branches are cut.

Many people are battling the fruits of plantations they cannot see. They pray against the problem, and it goes away for a while, only to come back again. They cut the branches, but the root remains.

But Jesus has declared, “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up” (Matthew 15:13). Today, by the power of God, every evil plantation in your life shall be uprooted, and God’s own planting shall flourish in you, in the mighty name of Jesus.

When Jesus said, “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up,” He was speaking about the traditions and teachings of the Pharisees that were not from God. But the principle is powerful and universal: whatever God did not plant has no right to remain.

God did not plant sickness in your body. God did not plant poverty in your destiny. God did not plant confusion in your mind. God did not plant bitterness in your heart. God did not plant failure in your foundation.

God did not plant sorrow in your marriage. Whatever is growing in your life that God did not plant can be uprooted.

The prophet Jeremiah received a divine commission: “See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant” (Jeremiah 1:10).

Notice the order. Before building and planting, there must first be rooting out, pulling down, destroying and throwing down. You cannot plant a beautiful garden in a field full of weeds.

You cannot build a strong house on a corrupted foundation. Some things must be uprooted before the new can be planted.

Beloved, God wants to plant you as a tree of righteousness. Isaiah declared that the Lord would give His people “the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified” (Isaiah 61:3).

But for God’s planting to flourish, the enemy’s planting must go. Jesus told the parable of a man who sowed good seed in his field. “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also” (Matthew 13:25–26).

Notice three things. First, the enemy planted while men slept. Evil plantations are often sown when people are spiritually asleep, prayerless and unguarded. Second, the enemy planted and went his way.

He did not stay to be noticed. Evil plantations are usually planted quietly and secretly. Third, the tares appeared only when the fruit began to show. Many people do not discover the evil plantation until it begins to produce fruit in their lives, sometimes years later.

The servants were confused: “Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?” (Matthew 13:27). Many people ask the same question today.

“I gave my life to Christ. I serve God. I pray. Why is this thing growing in my life?” And the master gave the answer: “An enemy hath done this” (Matthew 13:28).

Beloved, there are things in your life that you did not plant and God did not plant. An enemy did it. But the good news is that what the enemy planted, God can uproot.

Evil plantations can be found in different areas of a person’s life.

Some are planted in the body. These are sicknesses, deposits and afflictions that entered through spiritual attacks, evil dreams of eating or being injected, or other means. They show up as strange sicknesses, recurring pains or conditions that defy explanation.

Some are planted in the mind. These are fears, lies, wrong beliefs and negative imaginations that the enemy sows into a person’s thinking. The Bible calls them strongholds and imaginations that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:4–5).

Some people carry a deep belief that they will never succeed, never marry, never be healed or never be free, and that belief has become a plantation that shapes their whole life.

Some are planted in the heart. The Bible warns against “any root of bitterness springing up” which troubles a person and defiles many (Hebrews 12:15). Bitterness, envy, unforgiveness, lust, pride and greed can all take root in the heart.

“For the love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Timothy 6:10). These roots produce poisonous fruit in a person’s life and relationships.

Some are planted in the foundation. These are ancestral covenants, family curses, inherited patterns and dedications to idols that were made before a person was born.

Moses warned Israel, “Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood” (Deuteronomy 29:18). Some roots run deep into family history.

Some are planted in marriages, finances and destinies. Patterns of marital breakdown, financial leakage, sudden reversals, failure at the edge of breakthrough and repeated disappointments may be the fruit of evil plantations.

And some are planted through words. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). Curses spoken over a person, negative labels from parents or teachers, and even negative words a person speaks over himself can become seeds that grow into plantations.

When the men of Jericho came to Elisha, they described a strange situation: “The situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren” (2 Kings 2:19). The city looked beautiful. Its location was good. But something was wrong at the source. The water was bad, and as a result the land was barren and there was death.

Elisha did not go around treating every barren field one by one. He did not try to fix every symptom. The Bible says, “And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there” (2 Kings 2:21).

He went to the source. And he declared, “Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.” And the Bible says the waters were healed unto this day.

Beloved, many people are dealing with symptoms instead of roots. They pray against the poverty, but they do not deal with the root of poverty. They pray against the sickness, but they do not address what planted it.

They fight the repeated failure, but they never deal with the foundation. And so the problem keeps coming back. The psalmist asked, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3).

John the Baptist declared, “And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees” (Matthew 3:10). God is not interested only in cutting branches; He is laying the axe to the root. When the root is dealt with, the fruit dies with it.

Jesus gave His followers authority over evil plantations. He said, “If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you” (Luke 17:6).

Notice that Jesus did not say we should beg the tree or negotiate with it. He said we should speak to it, and it would obey. There is authority in the words of a believer who speaks in faith.

When Jesus cursed the fruitless fig tree, the next morning the disciples “saw the fig tree dried up from the roots” (Mark 11:20). The tree did not die from the branches down; it died from the roots up. When Jesus speaks to an evil plantation, it dies at the root.

God’s Word is also a weapon for uprooting. “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” (Jeremiah 23:29). The Word of God burns what the enemy planted and breaks what the enemy built.

Some plantations are deeply rooted and require more than a casual prayer. When the disciples could not cast out a stubborn spirit, Jesus said, “This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29). Some evil plantations will require dedicated seasons of prayer and fasting to uproot.

Beloved, as a deliverance minister, I must also be balanced and honest with you. Not every evil plantation was planted by witches or ancestors. Some were planted by our own hands.

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting” (Galatians 6:7–8).

Every sinful choice is a seed. Every habit of lying, immorality, laziness, dishonesty or bitterness is a seed. When we sow these seeds, we will reap their harvest if we fail to uproot them.

Some people are reaping poverty because they sowed laziness. Some are reaping broken relationships because they sowed harsh words. Some are reaping sickness because they sowed an unhealthy lifestyle.

Some are reaping spiritual dryness because they sowed prayerlessness. Some opened doors through occult involvement, ungodly sexual relationships or covenants they entered knowingly.

Before you blame your village, examine your own field. Ask the Holy Spirit, “Lord, is there anything growing in my life that I planted through my own sin or choices?” Where He shows you, repent, renounce it and ask for grace to change.

You cannot cast out what you are still watering. Some plantations will only die when you stop feeding them. And let me add this: do not accuse your relatives or neighbours of planting evil in your life without clear revelation from God.

Many families have been torn apart by false accusations. Our battle is not against flesh and blood. Deal with the plantation by the power of God, and leave the judgment of persons to Him.

Also, when it comes to the body, continue to seek proper medical care. Pray against every evil deposit, and also see your doctor, take your medication and follow wise advice. God can uproot sickness through a miracle, and He can also use medicine and doctors.

Beloved, uprooting is only half of the work. After the evil plantation is uprooted, the ground must be filled with God’s planting.

Jesus warned that when an unclean spirit leaves a person and finds the house “empty, swept, and garnished,” it goes and brings seven other spirits worse than itself, “and the last state of that man is worse than the first” (Matthew 12:44–45).

An empty field will not remain empty. If you uproot weeds and plant nothing, weeds will grow again. So after God uproots the evil plantation, let Him plant His Word, His Spirit and His fruit in your life.

Paul prayed that believers would be “rooted and grounded in love” (Ephesians 3:17) and “Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith” (Colossians 2:7).

The psalmist described the blessed man as one who delights in the law of the Lord: “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper” (Psalm 1:3).

“Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God” (Psalm 92:13). Let the fruit of the Spirit grow where the fruit of the flesh once grew: “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance” (Galatians 5:22–23).

After uprooting the evil and planting the good, you must guard your field so that the enemy does not plant again. Do not sleep spiritually. The enemy plants “while men slept.” Stay alert in prayer, especially at night.

Cover your life, your dreams, your family and everything you have with the blood of Jesus. Guard your heart. “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

Do not allow bitterness, envy or lust to take root again in your life. Deal with offences quickly. Catch the little foxes before they spoil the vine. Guard what enters through your eyes and ears. What you watch, read and listen to can become seeds in your heart.

Guard your associations. Some relationships are channels through which the enemy plants seeds of compromise, fear and sin. And guard your mouth. Speak words of life over yourself and your family. Do not plant curses with your own tongue.

Now hear the good news. What the enemy planted, God can uproot. What you planted in ignorance or rebellion, the blood of Jesus can cleanse.

Jesus told His disciples, “If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you” (Luke 17:6).

He did not tell them to beg the tree or negotiate with it. He told them to speak to it with faith. When Jesus spoke to the barren fig tree, the disciples passed by the next morning and saw it “dried up from the roots” (Mark 11:20).

When the Word of the Lord deals with a plantation, it does not just trim the leaves; it kills the root.

God’s Word is your weapon. “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” (Jeremiah 23:29). The fire of God’s Word burns what the enemy planted, and the hammer of God’s Word breaks what the enemy built.

And where a plantation has gone very deep, where it has been in the family for generations or in your life for many years, do not be discouraged if it requires more than one prayer.

Jesus said some things go out only by prayer and fasting. Stay with it until the root comes out. But uprooting is only the beginning. A field that has been cleared of weeds will not stay empty for long.

If you do not plant something good, the weeds will return. Jesus warned that when an unclean spirit leaves a man and finds the house empty, swept and garnished, it returns with seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and the last state of that man is worse than the first (Matthew 12:43–45).

So when God uproots the evil, let Him plant His Word, His Spirit and His fruit in its place. Let love grow where bitterness once grew. Let faith grow where fear once grew. Let purity grow where lust once grew. Let peace grow where confusion once grew.

Paul prayed that we would be “rooted and grounded in love” (Ephesians 3:17) and “Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith” (Colossians 2:7). That is the kind of planting that produces a lasting harvest.

Beloved, God wants your life to be a fruitful field. He wants you to be “like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper” (Psalm 1:3).

He wants you to be called a tree of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified. Nothing the enemy has planted can stop that, and nothing you planted in your past has to define your future.

So today, let the Holy Spirit walk through your field with you. Let Him point out every weed, every tare and every root that does not belong to you. In the name of Jesus, every plant in your life that your heavenly Father has not planted is rooted up now.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION

I declare in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth: every plant in my life that my heavenly Father has not planted is rooted up now. Every tare sown into my field while I slept is uprooted by fire.

Every evil plantation in my body is dried up from the roots. Every evil seed in my mind, every lie, fear and wrong belief, is pulled down. Every root of bitterness, envy, lust and unforgiveness in my heart is plucked up.

Every evil plantation in my foundation, every ancestral covenant and family pattern, is uprooted by the blood of Jesus. Every evil seed planted in my marriage, finances and destiny dies at the root.

Every curse and evil word spoken over me loses its power. I go to the source of every problem, and the Lord heals my waters; there shall be no more death or barren land in my life.

I speak to every sycamine tree of affliction, and it obeys me. I stop watering every sin I planted with my own hands. My life is filled with God’s planting. I am rooted and grounded in love, rooted and built up in Christ.

I am a tree of righteousness, the planting of the Lord. I am planted by the rivers of water, I bring forth fruit in my season, my leaf shall not wither, and whatsoever I do shall prosper, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!

KEY LESSONS FOR TODAY

  • Whatever God did not plant in your life has no right to remain; it can be uprooted.
  • The enemy plants while men sleep, and many plantations only become visible when they begin to bear fruit.
  • Deal with the root and the source, not only the symptoms, as Elisha healed the spring of Jericho.
  • Some evil plantations are planted by our own sinful choices; you cannot cast out what you are still watering.
  • After uprooting, replace the evil with God’s planting and guard your field diligently.

DAILY REFLECTION – ASK YOURSELF

  • Is there any pattern, problem or affliction in my life that keeps coming back no matter how much I pray?
  • Have I been fighting symptoms instead of dealing with the root?
  • Is there any root of bitterness, envy, lust or unforgiveness growing in my heart?
  • Have I planted any evil seed in my own life through sin, wrong choices or careless words?
  • After God delivers me, am I filling my life with His Word and Spirit, or leaving my field empty?

WISDOM FOR TODAY

You cannot cut the branches of a problem and expect the root to die. Go to the source, lay the axe to the root, and then plant something better in its place.

PERSONAL CHALLENGE

Beloved, today I challenge you to sit quietly before God and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any evil plantation in your life. Write down any pattern, problem, habit or attitude that keeps recurring, whether in your health, mind, heart, family, marriage or finances.

Beside each one, ask God honestly whether it is something the enemy planted or something you planted through your own choices. Where you planted it, repent and decide to stop watering it. Where the enemy planted it, take authority in prayer and command it to be uprooted by the blood of Jesus.

Then choose one Scripture to plant in its place, and declare it daily this week. Consider setting aside a day for prayer and fasting to deal with any deep-rooted problem. Finally, guard your field: watch what you see, hear, say and allow into your heart.

EVANGELISM CHALLENGE

Many people around you are battling things they do not understand: repeated failures, strange afflictions, bitterness and bondage they cannot break. Reach out to one person today and tell them that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and to uproot everything God did not plant. Share with them that true freedom begins when they give their lives to Christ and become the planting of the Lord. Pray with them, and invite them to receive Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

AFRICAN PROVERB

“When the roots of a tree begin to decay, it spreads death to the branches.”

Meaning: What happens at the root eventually shows in the branches. A tree with a diseased root will not bear good fruit no matter how often its leaves are trimmed. In the same way, many problems in our lives are rooted in hidden places: the heart, the foundation or secret sin. Until the root is dealt with, the branches will continue to suffer. Deal with the root, and the whole tree will be healed.

CLOSING REFLECTION

Beloved, your life is God’s field, and He wants it to be full of good fruit. The enemy may have planted tares while you slept, and some seeds may have been planted by your own hands, but none of it is too deep for God to uproot. Jesus has declared that every plant His Father did not plant shall be rooted up.

So go to the source like Elisha. Lay the axe to the root. Speak to the sycamine tree with faith. Stop watering what it needs to die. Then let God plant His Word and His Spirit in every place where evil once grew, and guard your field with prayer and watchfulness.

As you do, you will become a tree of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, planted by the rivers of water, bearing fruit in your season, and whatsoever you do shall prosper.

Stay blessed, stay rooted in Christ, and stay on fire!

ALTAR CALL: If you want to give your life to Christ; you want your sins forgiven; you want to become a child of God; you want to experience the realities of new birth; you want to make heaven; Or you were once saved and fell along the line, and now you want to rededicate your life to Christ… Then pray this short prayer of Faith Say it loud and mean it:

Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins, wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you Jesus for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for saving me

Thank God for the salvation of your soul. I congratulate you for the best decision of your life. If you just prayed the prayer of salvation online please send your testimonies and prayer request to info@ejom.org, +234 (809) 982-8623. To sow a seed, kindly go to our donation page. God bless you.
