Reflect On This In A Minute

“Many people pray to God, but wise believers also make time to listen to what God is saying.”

God is speaking. The question is: Are you listening?

MESSAGE: EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: May 27, 2026 – Learn to Hear God’s Voice

It is a wonderful thing to pray, but it is even more wonderful to hear God’s voice. Many believers spend time talking to God but very little time is spent listening to Him. Prayer is not meant to be a one-sided conversation where we only present our requests and then walk away.

Prayer is fellowship with God. Just as communication between friends involves speaking and listening, our relationship with God should also include both talking and listening.

Many people pray for guidance, direction, protection, and breakthrough, yet they fail to pause and listen for what God may be saying. Sometimes the answer we are seeking is not in praying louder but in becoming quieter before God.

God still speaks today. He speaks through His Word, through the Holy Spirit, through godly counsel, through circumstances, and sometimes through dreams and convictions in the heart. The problem is often not that God is silent; the problem is that we are too busy to listen.

God is speaking, but many are not listening. God is calling people away from danger, yet many are refusing to respond. God is sending warnings through His Word, dreams, convictions, circumstances, and faithful servants, but many have hardened their hearts against His voice.

The tragedy is not that God is silent; the tragedy is that many have become too busy, distracted, stubborn, or comfortable to pay attention to what He is saying.

Every day, God tries to get the attention of His children. He warns some people about dangerous relationships, but they ignore Him. He warns others about the business or plans, we failed to act;

He warns others about their sinful habits, but they continue in them. He speaks concerning our wrong decisions, yet many choose their own understanding instead of His wisdom.

Later, when the consequences arrive, they wonder why things went wrong. They call out the devil who has done nothing. The truth is that God often reveals before He allows. He warns before judgment comes. He speaks before danger arrives.

Many mistakes in life could have been avoided if people had listened to God’s voice. God often warns before danger comes on time. He gives direction before confusion arises. He provides wisdom before important decisions are made.

Unfortunately, some people are so eager to act that they never wait to hear from Him. They rush ahead and later discover that they have stepped outside God’s perfect plan.

Learning to hear God’s voice requires patience. God rarely competes with noise. A heart filled with distractions, worry, bitterness, and constant activity may find it difficult to recognize His leading.

This is why quiet moments with God are important. Spend time reading the Bible, meditating on His promises, and waiting in His presence. The more time you spend with God, the more familiar His voice becomes in your spirit.

God’s voice will never contradict His Word. Whatever God speaks will surely agree with Scripture. If a thought, impression, or instruction contradicts the Bible, it is not from God.

The Word of God remains the primary way through which He communicates with His children. The more you know the Scriptures, the easier it becomes to recognize God’s leading.

Sometimes God’s voice comes as a gentle conviction. Sometimes it comes as peace concerning a decision. Sometimes it comes as a warning not to proceed with a certain plan.

At other times, it comes through a verse of Scripture that suddenly becomes alive in your spirit. Whatever form it takes, God’s voice brings clarity, wisdom, direction, and peace.

Beloved, do not rush out of God’s presence after presenting your prayer requests. Spend time listening to Him. Ask God to speak and give Him your attention.

The God who created your ears is able to speak to you. The God who guided Abraham, Moses, Samuel, David, and Paul is still guiding His children today.

To hear God clearly, you must build intimacy with Him. A stranger may not recognize the voice of another stranger, but a child knows the voice of his mother.

The more time you spend with God in prayer, worship, fasting, and studying the Word, the easier it becomes to recognize His voice. God’s voice brings peace, direction, correction, warning, comfort, and wisdom.

His voice will never lead you into sin, confusion, pride, hatred, rebellion, or destruction. Any voice that pushes you away from the Word of God is not from God.

Patience is another important key to hearing God. Many people become frustrated when answers do not come immediately. However, God’s timing is perfect. There are seasons when God speaks quickly and clearly, and there are seasons when He teaches us to trust Him while we wait.

Waiting does not mean God is absent. Sometimes His silence is preparing us for bigger miracle. Many believers desire to hear God’s voice, but few are willing to cultivate the lifestyle that makes hearing Him possible.

Hearing God is not merely a spiritual gift or special grace reserved only for prophets, pastors, or special people. It is the inheritance of every child of God to hear God.

Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice.” He did not say some sheep hear His voice; He said His sheep hear His voice. The issue is not whether God is speaking. The issue is whether we are listening.

One of the greatest enemies of hearing God’s voice is spiritual distraction. We live in a world full of noise. There is noise from social media, news reports, people’s opinions, worries, fears, and personal ambitions.

Many people are constantly listening to everybody except God. When your heart is occupied with the noise of the world, it becomes difficult to recognize the gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit.

God is interested in guiding His children. He is not hiding His will from those who sincerely seek Him. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly demonstrated His desire to communicate with His people.

Young Samuel heard God’s voice while serving in the temple. At first, he did not recognize who was calling him. He thought Eli the priest was speaking. Eventually, Eli instructed him to respond, “Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth.” From that day, Samuel became one of the greatest prophets in Israel.

Many believers today are like Samuel before his understanding matured. God may be speaking to you, but they do not yet recognize His voice. This is why spiritual growth and sensitivity are important.

Beloved, ask the Lord to open your spiritual ears. Many mistakes can be avoided when you hear God. Many battles can be prevented when you obey divine instruction. One word from God can save your destiny.

Today, ask yourself: Is there an instruction from God that I have been ignoring? Is there a warning I have treated lightly? Is there an area where God has been calling me to repentance, obedience, or separation from danger?

The safest place in life is the center of God’s will. When God speaks, listen. When God warns, respond immediately. When God directs, obey without questioning Him. Delayed obedience can lead to delayed blessings.

As you develop the habit of listening to God, your spiritual sensitivity will increase. You will make better decisions, avoid many traps, receive divine direction, and enjoy deeper fellowship with the Lord. Prayer is not complete until you have given God an opportunity to speak in your life.

The God who spoke to Abraham, Moses, Samuel, David, Elijah, Joseph, Daniel, Peter, and Paul still speaks today. He is ready to guide you, protect you, warn you, encourage you, and reveal His purpose for your life.

Learn to listen carefully, follow faithfully, and trust completely. As you hear and obey God’s voice, you shall walk in divine direction, avoid costly mistakes, and fulfill God’s plan for your life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Key Lessons for Today

  • God is still speaking today through His Word, the Holy Spirit, dreams, convictions, and godly counsel.
  • The greatest danger is not that God is silent, but that people refuse to listen to Him.
  • Divine warnings are expressions of God’s love and mercy to man, not His hatred.
  • Every warning from God is an opportunity to avoid future trouble and make necessary corrections.
  • Delayed obedience can become disobedience if we continually ignore God’s instructions.
  • A sensitive heart recognizes God’s voice and responds promptly.
  • Many problems can be avoided when we take God’s warnings seriously.
  • God often reveals danger before it happens so that prayer and obedience can prevent it.
  • Ignoring divine counsel can lead to unnecessary struggles, losses, and regrets.
  • Spiritual discernment grows when we maintain a consistent life of prayer and Bible study.
  • God’s instructions may not always be convenient, but they are always for our good.
  • Fear should not be our response to God’s warnings; faith and obedience should be.
  • A person who listens to God’s voice will avoid many traps and walk in greater peace and security.

Closing Reflection

The more time you spend in God’s presence, the more familiar His voice becomes. Just as a child recognizes the voice of a loving parent, believers who walk closely with God learn to recognize His guidance, warnings, corrections, and encouragement. Do not allow busyness, fear, sin, or distractions to silence your spiritual ears. Make it your desire to know God’s will and follow His direction in every area of your life.
