EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: June 12, 2026 – God Can Use Ordinary People
One of the greatest lies the devil tells believers is that they are not important enough for God to use. Many people spend years comparing themselves with others. They focus on what they do not have instead of appreciating what God has already placed inside them. This mindset often prevents them from stepping into their divine assignment.
Many people believe that God only uses those who are highly educated, wealthy, influential, gifted, or well-connected. As a result, they disqualify themselves from God’s service and purpose because they feel ordinary, insignificant, or unqualified. They look at their background, limitations, weaknesses, and lack of resources and conclude that God cannot use them for anything great.
However, the Bible tells us a different story. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly chose ordinary men and women to accomplish extraordinary things. God’s power is not limited by a person’s social status, educational background, age, appearance, or financial condition. He specializes in using ordinary people to achieve supernatural results.
For example, when God wanted to deliver Israel from Egypt, He chose Moses, a man who considered himself poor in speech. When God wanted to defeat Goliath, He chose David, a shepherd boy whom even his own family overlooked. When Jesus wanted to change the world, He selected fishermen, tax collectors, and common men rather than kings, scholars, and politicians.
When the prophet Samuel came to anoint a king, David was not even invited to the meeting. His family considered him too insignificant for the position. While others saw a shepherd boy, God saw a king. Never allow people’s opinion of you to determine God’s plan for your life.
The truth is that God does not look at people the way we does. While people focus on outward qualifications or appearances, God focuses on the heart. He is not searching for perfect people; He is searching for available people. God can take a person whom society ignores and turn him into a vessel of honour. He can even take a person from a humble background and place him before kings and nations.
If God could use Moses, Gideon, Ruth, Esther, Peter, and many others, He can also use you. Your limitations do not limit God. Your weaknesses do not cancel His purpose for your life. The God who turns ordinary people into instruments of His glory is still working today. Gideon is also a perfect example. When the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, Gideon immediately began to mention his limitations.
He said his family was poor and that he was the least in his father’s house. Yet God addressed him as a mighty man of valour. God saw greatness in him where Gideon saw weakness and limitation. Many people spend their lives waiting for the perfect time, perfect opportunity, perfect education, or perfect resources before they are willing to obey God.
But nfortunately, that perfect moment often never comes. God rarely calls people after they have everything figured out. Instead, He calls them while they are still growing, learning, and trusting Him. The moment they respond in faith, He begins to equip them for the assignment ahead. Another truth is that God delights in surprising people.
We often judge others based on their appearance, social status, family background, or achievements. But God does not operate that way. Throughout history, He has repeatedly raised people from unexpected places. He brought Joseph from a prison cell to a palace of honour and respect. He took Ruth, a foreign widow, and placed her in the lineage of Jesus Christ.
He transformed Saul the persecutor into Paul the apostle. Listen: When God decides to use someone, no human qualification or disqualification can stop His purpose. Sometimes people mistakenly believe that their past mistakes have permanently disqualified them. They look at their past failures, poor decisions, or missed opportunities and conclude that God has moved on without them.
But the Bible is full of people whom God has restored and used after season of failure. Peter denied Jesus three times, yet he became one of the pillars of the early church. Mark abandoned Paul on a missionary journey, yet he later became useful in ministry. God’s mercy is powerful enough to rewrite a person’s story. It is also important to understand that God uses different people in different ways.
It is not everyone called by God should stand behind a pulpit. Some are called to encourage others. Some are called to give generously. Some are called to teach, counsel, serve, write, pray, organize, or support kingdom work behind the scenes. The hand and the eye perform different functions, but both are valuable to the body. The mistake many people are making is comparing their assignment with someone else’s assignment.
When you compare yourself to others, you may overlook the unique purpose God has given you. The guava tree and the mango tree do not compete with each other. Each fulfils its own purpose. In the same way, God has given every believer unique gifts, experiences, and opportunities for fulfilment. Your assignment may not look like someone else’s, but it is no less important in God’s eyes.
Many times, God sees something in us that we cannot yet see in ourselves. He sees great potential where we see failure. He sees purpose where we see limitations. He sees greatness in us where we see failure. God often chooses ordinary people because they are more likely to depend upon Him. Those who trust entirely in their abilities sometimes struggle to depend upon God’s power.
But when God uses someone who appears ordinary, the glory goes to Him alone. Consider the disciples of Jesus. Most of them were ordinary men with simple occupations. They were not famous scholars or influential leaders. Yet after being empowered by the Holy Spirit, they turned the world upside down with the Gospel. Their impact did not come from their qualifications but from God’s presence upon their lives.
Never allow your background to discourage you. Some people come from poor homes, broken families, difficult environments, or places where success seems very difficult. Yet God has repeatedly demonstrated that your beginning does not determine your ending. Sometimes God intentionally starts with small things. He wants His children to learn humility, patience, faithfulness, and dependence on Him.
The little assignment He gives you today may be preparation for something much greater tomorrow. Many people want large platforms but neglect small opportunities. They want God to trust them with much while proving unfaithful in little things. There are people today who refuse to step out of their comfort zone because they fear criticism or allegation.
They worry about what others will say or feel if they fail. They fear making mistakes or trying new things. They fear of being rejected by their friends. However, every person God used had to overcome the opinions of others. Noah looked foolish to people while building the ark. David appeared too young to fight Goliath. Nehemiah faced mockery while rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls.
Beloved, if you allow the fear of people to control you, you may miss the opportunities God has prepared for you. It is also important to understand that God uses people according to His timing. Sometimes people become discouraged because they feel unnoticed by others. They wonder why others seem to be advancing more than them. Another remarkable truth is that God can use your life experiences, including painful ones, for His purpose.
The struggles you have overcome may become tools to help or encourage others. The comfort God gave you during your difficult seasons can become encouragement for someone else. The testimony of your healing can strengthen another person’s faith. God wastes nothing in the life of a surrendered believer. Furthermore, God often uses people who are willing to obey simple instructions.
Great miracles frequently begin or start with small acts of obedience. The widow of Zarephath simply prepared a meal for Elijah. The boy with five loaves and two fish simply surrendered his lunch. Naaman simply obeyed the instruction to wash himself in the Jordan River. Small acts of obedience can still unlock extraordinary manifestations of God’s power in our life.
God can use anybody. He is the God who raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the dunghill to set them among princes. Throughout the Bible, God demonstrated that He is not limited by a person’s background, education, social status, age, tribe, or financial condition. What matters to God is not where you are coming from but where He is taking you to.
The Bible says in Romans 9:15, “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” Many people are enjoying God’s blessings today not because they are the most qualified, the most intelligent, or the most connected, but because God’s mercy found them. Mercy can take a man from obscurity and place him in the spotlight.
Mercy can open doors that education, influence, and human effort cannot open. Mercy can qualify the unqualified and elevate the forgotten. One obvious mistake many people make is seeing themselves as ordinary. When you continually speak down on yourself, think little of yourself, and believe you have nothing to offer, you begin to project that image to others.
People often treat you according to the value you place on yourself. If you constantly see yourself as insignificant, you may unknowingly bury the gifts and potential God has placed within you. This does not mean becoming proud or arrogant. Rather, it means seeing yourself through God’s eyes. You are a child of God, created in His image and likeness. You carry divine potential.
There is something God has deposited in you that this world needs. There is a purpose attached to your life. There is an assignment that no one else can fulfil exactly the way God has designed you to fulfil it. Many people who eventually became great today never looked great at the beginning. The devil wants people to focus on their weaknesses, but God wants them to focus on His glory.
If you keep looking at what you do not have, you may never discover what God has already given you. Stop saying, “I am just an ordinary person.” There is nothing ordinary about a life that God has touched. There is nothing ordinary about a person carrying divine purpose. Sometimes God intentionally chooses people whom society has rejected so that His glory will be revealed.
When God lifts such a person, nobody can take the credit or glory. The testimony becomes unique, undilluted and undeniable. People will know that it was not by human strength, wisdom, or connections but sponsored by the hand of God. Beloved, never allow your current situation to define your future. You may be unknown today, but God can announce you tomorrow.
You may be overlooked today, but God can make you unforgettable tomorrow. You may feel insignificant today, but one touch of God’s mercy can change your story completely. Remember, God is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for available people. The moment you place your life in His hands, He can turn your failure into success, your limitation into opportunity, your struggle into testimony, and your ordinary life into an extraordinary example of His grace and power.
Another thing you must understand is that God does not need any person’s permission to promote whom He has chosen. When God decides to lift a man, no opposition or demon can stop it. People may try to hinder, criticize, reject, or overlook you, but if God’s hand is upon your life, His purpose will still come to pass. This is why you should never allow people’s opinions to determine your value.
The same people who ignore you today may be the same people who will celebrate you tomorrow when God begins to manifest His glory in your life. Many people in the Bible were underestimated before God elevated them. Hannah was seen as a barren woman, but God saw the mother of a prophet. Jabez was born in sorrow, but God turned his story into a testimony. What people call you is not as important as what God calls you.
There are people who have convinced themselves that they can never amount to anything in life because of where they came from. They believe their family background has already determined or limited their future. They look at the struggles of their parents and conclude that they too must struggle in that same line. Reject it. Its not your portion. Backward never, forward ever.
Our God is a God of new beginnings. He can start a new chapter in a family through one person. You may be the person through whom God wants to change the history of your family. Please do not make the mistake of measuring your future by your present circumstances. Your current condition is only a chapter, not the entire story. A person may begin life in poverty and end in glory.
A person may start with rejection and end with a person enjoying God’s favour and mercy. A person may begin in obscurity and end in greatness. God’s power is able to transform any situations that seem difficult to overcome. Another reason God uses ordinary people is to encourage others. If God only used people who already had everything, many people would lose hope.
But when God takes someone with weaknesses, limitations, and struggles and turns that person into a testimony, others begin to believe that God can do the same for them. Your testimony may become the encouragement someone else needs to keep trusting God. Sometimes people focus so much on what they lack that they fail to use what they have for the glory of God.
Moses complained about his inability to speak, but God asked him, “What is that in your hand? This is a staff. I will use it to perform miracle” God often begins with what we already possess. The little gift, talent, opportunity, experience, or resource you have today may be the very thing God wants to use. Stop looking for what you do not have and begin to use what God has already placed in your hands.
It is also important to avoid despising small beginnings. Great ministries, great businesses, great careers, and great testimonies often begin small. Many people want instant greatness, but God usually works through a process. The seed must first be planted before it becomes a tree. The foundation must be laid before the building can rise. If you remain faithful in the small things, God will entrust you with greater things.
God’s lifting often comes unexpectedly. One phone call can change a person’s story. One divine connection can open doors that years of struggle could not open. One act of obedience can position someone for favour. One encounter with God can change a person’s destiny forever. This is why believers must never lose hope. The God who lifted David from the sheepfold and Joseph from prison is still working today.
Perhaps nobody believes in you. Perhaps people have written you off. Perhaps you feel unnoticed and forgotten in life. Remember that God’s selection is not based on human recommendation. Before David became king, nobody recommended him. Before Esther became queen, nobody expected her to be the king’s wife. Before Peter became an apostle, he was simply a fisherman. God delights in surprising people.
Therefore, carry yourself with confidence in the God who lives within you or believe in your grace. Refuse to see yourself as a nobody and as a failure. Refuse to talk down on yourself regularly. Refuse to limit what God can do through your life. You may appear ordinary to men, but when God’s grace, favour, mercy, and power rest upon a person’s life, that life can no longer remain ordinary.
Never forget: God is still in the business of taking people from the backseat and bringing them to the frontseat. He is still lifting people from the dust and setting them among princes. He is still using unlikely people to accomplish extraordinary things. If He could do it for others, He can do it for you. The only thing He asks is that you trust Him, obey Him, and make yourself available for His use.
The enemy wants people to believe they are too small to make a difference i life. God wants them to know that a life totally surrendered to Him can influence generations with great impact. One obedient person can rise above that limitation graciously. One faithful believer in a small village can impact a globall community. One committed servant can become a vessel through which God reaches countless souls.
I want to encourage you not to wait until you feel fully qualified, happied or satisfied before answering God’s call upon your life. If God has placed a burden, gift, or assignment in your heart, begin where you are. Use what you have. Trust Him with the results. The God who used ordinary people in the Bible is still looking for hearts that are still willing, humble, and available to be used for His glory.
Those who place themselves in His hands will discover that His power can turn the ordinary into something extraordinary. So no matter your age, status, education, or background, God can still use you to make a difference in this world. When God places His hand upon someone, ordinary people begin to do extraordinary things with extraordinary miracles.
Therefore, never despise the season you are currently in. What looks ordinary today may be preparing you for something great tomorrow. The skills you are learning, the challenges you are overcoming, the people you are serving, and the lessons you are gaining may all be part of God’s preparation process for your life. Many of God’s greatest servants spent years in hidden preparation before stepping into visible ministry.
Remember that God’s strength is most clearly seen when human strength is insufficient. When people look at your life and can only explain or reference your success by pointing to God, then God receives the glory. This is one reason He often chooses ordinary people. Their lives become living testimonies that success is not merely the result of human ability but of divine grace.
Therefore, stop focusing on what you lack and start focusing on the God who called you. Your resources may be limited, but His resources are unlimited. Your knowledge may be small, but His wisdom in you is infinite. Your strength may fail, but His power never fails. If you place your life in God’s hands, He can do far more through you than you could ever imagine.
The question is not whether God can use you. The question is whether you are willing to surrender yourself completely to Him. When ordinary people place themselves in the hands of an extraordinary God, extraordinary things begin to happen.
In conclusion, do not look down on yourself. Do not wait until everything is perfect before obeying His instructions. Start where you are. Use what you have. Trust God with the little results you are getting. As you remain faithful to Him, He will even open more doors, provide more opportunities, and lead you into the purpose He has prepared for your life.
Remember that no one is too small for God to use. No one is too insignificant for God to notice. No one is too weak for God to strengthen. No one is too ordinary for God to elevate. If God could use ordinary people in our society, He can use you too. Therefore, stop focusing on your limitations and start focusing on God’s unlimited power.
Stop magnifying your problems and start magnifying His grace. Make yourself available to Him always, and you will discover that the God who turns ordinary people into extraordinary vessels is ready to do the same in your life today. God is lifting you and changing your story for good.
Prophetic Declaration
I decree that every spirit of inadequacy and limitation operating in your life is broken today. May God open your eyes to the gifts and potential He has deposited within you. The same God who lifted David from the sheepfold and Gideon from obscurity shall announce you for His glory. You shall not die ordinary. You shall fulfill your divine purpose and become a blessing to your generation, in Jesus’ mighty name.
Key Lessons for Today
- God does not call only the qualified; He qualifies those He calls.
- Your background cannot stop God’s purpose for your life.
- Small beginnings often lead to great destinies.
- God’s grace can redeem your past and prepare your future.
- God receives glory when ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things through Him.
Personal Challenge
Today, stop looking at your limitations and start focusing on God’s purpose for your life. Take a few moments to identify at least one gift, talent, or opportunity God has given you. Ask yourself how you can use them to serve God, bless others, and advance His kingdom. Instead of saying, “I cannot do it,” begin to say, “Through God’s grace, I can fulfill my assignment.”
Make yourself available for God’s work today. Encourage someone, share the gospel with a friend, help a person in need, or use your talent to glorify God. Remember, God is not looking for perfect people; He is looking for willing people.
