EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: July 29, 2026 – Casting Out the Spirit of Fear
Fear is one of the greatest weapons the enemy uses against God’s people today. It is a spirit that weakens our faith, steals our peace, and prevents people from stepping into God’s purpose. Fear does not cast out fear.
It takes a greater power -the power of the Holy Spirit and the authority in the name of Jesus Christ, to cast out the spirit of fear. As believers, we are not called to negotiate with fear or accommodate it; we are commanded to resist it and drive it out.
Fear can frustrate a person’s destiny. It can stop you from making important decisions, prevent you from trying new opportunities, and keep you trapped in a life of frustration.
Some people even pray out of fear instead of praying with faith. They fast because they are afraid of something. They stop talking to others just because of what they heard about the person. This is not the kind of life God has called us to live.
Some are afriad of visiting their village, parents or family members. They feel that there is no need to do that or even perceive they are behind their problems. Some stopped visiting them because of the nightmares they had about them.
The Bible says, greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world. When the greater One lives in you, you don’t need to be afraid of what people or system will do against you. Our fear gives the enemy the strength to attack us more.
There are two kinds of fear. The fear of God is holy, pure, and beneficial. It leads you to Christ, keeps you humble, and makes you careful not to offend God.
The fear of God produces wisdom, obedience, and righteousness. But there is another fear, and this one comes from satan, and it does not come to help you, it comes to kill. It comes to kill your relationships. It comes to make you suspicious of people who mean you no harm.
It comes to destroy the drive in you, the fire in you, the push in you to fulfil what God has called you to do. This fear does not need to stay in your life one more day. You must cast it out. The enemy wants you to expect rejection before it happens to you.
If you want to keep living a victorious life, hear me, you must not be in agreement with fear. You must not believe everything the devil tells you. Because many are afraid of things that have no business of troubling you. You are afraid of your own destiny helpers.
You are afraid of people God has sent to bless you. Some people have not done anything wrong, they have nothing hanging over their head, and still they are afraid.
You are driving your car, your papers are complete, your documents are correct, but the moment you see a policeman ahead, fear grips you immediately. Why? You did nothing wrong. That is not the fear of God, that is the spirit of fear, and it must go.
Listen to me, when you are afraid, the devil finds it easy to attack you. Fear opens the doorway. You go to a place to eat, and instead of enjoying your meal, you are afraid of the meal, wondering if something has been put in your food.
If your spirit truly warns you against a particular place, then do not go there. Fear is a stranger. Fear can direct one to a place where the enemy will conclude his assignment over him.
Beloved, fear has no legal right in your life. You must cast it out immediately. You need to be bold and courageous, because that is what God has called you to be.
The devil understands that fearful people are easier to manipulate. They understand that fearful can easily be controlled and misled. Once fear takes control of your mind, you become powerless. Your confidence disappears, your judgment becomes clouded, and you begin to imagine negative outcomes even when God has promised victory.
Maybe you had a bad dream last night, and now you are afraid, wondering if that thing you saw in the dream will come to pass. Beloved, the Bible says fear not, for I am with you. God has promised to strengthen you, to help you, to hold you up with His righteous right hand.
God already knows that man will always be vulnerable to fear, that is why He commanded us again and again, do not fear, resist it, refuse it. Fear should never have the final say in the life of a believer.
Some people live with constant fear in their relationships. They keep thinking, “My boyfriend will soon leave me.” “My fiancée will reject me very soon.” “My spouse no longer loves me.” These thoughts gradually affect one’s behaviour until they begin to push you away from the right people.
The Bible says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” If you keep thinking he will not marry you, you may end up seeing exactly what you feared, not because it was destined, but because fear opened the door for it. That is why the Bible declares, if God is for you, who can be against you?
When the word of God tells you that He has not given you the spirit of fear, that means whatever fear is troubling you right now did not come from Him. It is not your portion. It came from satan.
Understand what satan is after in your life. He is not just after your comfort, he is after your dreams. He wants to kill your dreams before they are born. He wants to disgrace you. He wants to put you to shame.
That is why so many people are walking around afraid of failure, afraid of sickness, afraid of death, afraid of witchcraft, afraid of tomorrow, afraid of their own future. This is a serious matter, beloved. This is not something to ignore in a hurry.
Fear has stopped so many people from starting the business God gave them the idea for. Fear has stopped people from pursuing the education that would have changed their story.
Fear has stopped people from entering the marriage God ordained. Fear has stopped people from accepting the ministry assignment on their life. Fear has kept people frozen at the exact spot where their breakthrough was waiting for them.
Maybe it is a frightening dream that has troubled you. Maybe it is a medical report that has brought fear into your life. Maybe it is financial problems, threats from your enemies, delays that look impossible to overcome.
Whatever it is, hear me and hear me well: fear cannot solve one single problem. Fear has never fixed anything. And it will never answer your prayer. What fear does is to magnify the problem in your eyes and weaken your confidence in what you believe God is able to do.
Fear makes the mountain look bigger and makes God look smaller, and that is a lie from the pit of hell. Many people are afraid of their own success. They are afraid of their early rise. They are afraid of giving birth. They are afraid of what people may feel or think about them.
They are afraid of breaking new grounds. There are people who sabotage their own breakthrough because of fear. Beloved, if you are too afraid, you may continue to remain in the position where God did not expect you to be.
Many people think they are being careful, when in truth, it is fear that has taken control of them. When God tells you to take that action, don’t be afraid. When God is pushing you to go and meet that lady and declare your heart to her, don’t be afraid.
When God tells you to open your mouth and say no to something, don’t be afraid to say it. Nobody, and, I mean nobody, has the power to control what you should say or what you do except the God who made you. You must cast out every limitation fear has placed on you.
The Bible says in Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Beloved, you have to open your mouth and command that spirit of fear to go completely, so that you can freely pursue your goals and fulfil the purpose of God for your life.
The moment you allow fear to settle down in your spirit, understand what you are inviting alongside it, you may be inviting overcarefulness, you are inviting failure, you are inviting procrastination, you are inviting confusion. Fear has no good agenda for your life. Its only assignment is to limit and frustrate you.
The Bible tells us plainly, “Fear hath torment” (1 John 4:18). A fearful person rarely experiences peace of mind. Even when nothing is wrong, the mind keeps painting pictures of danger. Every call ringing on your phone starts to feel like someone is calling to bring bad news.
You received a gift from someone and throw it away. Beloved, this is not the life that Christ paid His blood to purchase for you. The enemy uses fear also to keep believers spiritually inactive, sitting down looking without taking decision.
Some people know God has called them into ministry, but fear of what people will say, fear of criticism, has kept them silent. Some people know they are doing the wrong thing, but fear did not allow them to leave it.
Some have received divine ideas in their spirit, ideas that could bless multitudes of people, but fear of failure has locked those ideas away in a drawer.
Others have received a clear leading to reconcile with someone, to start that business, to relocate, to write that book, to take that step of faith, but fear keeps whispering the same old question into their heart: “What if it doesn’t work?” As long as fear is allowed to remain, beloved, progress will always be difficult.
Look at the ten spies who went to search out the Promised Land. God had already promised them a land flowing with milk and honey, it was already settled, already decreed. But fear changed their entire perspective. Instead of focusing on the promise of God, they focused on the giants standing in the land.
Instead of remembering the miracles God had already performed for them in Egypt, they magnified the obstacles in front of their eyes. Fear made them forget the very God who had parted the Red Sea for them. And because of that fear, an entire generation missed their inheritance and died in the wilderness, never entering the land God had already given them.
Fear will also come and weaken your prayer life if you allow it. Instead of praying with confidence, you start praying with panic. Every prayer becomes, “God, please don’t let this happen to me.” Your heart fills up with anxiety instead of assurance.
But the Bible tells us to come boldly, not timidly, but boldly, before the throne of grace. Boldness is the language of faith. Fear is the language of unbelief, and heaven does not answer to the language of unbelief.
Fear does not just come to disturb your feelings, fear comes to negotiate with your destiny. It comes to sit you down at a table you never invited it to, and it starts to bargain with you: “Reduce your dream. Lower your expectation. Don’t try again.
Stay where you are.” And many people, without even knowing it, have signed agreements with fear. They have shaken hands with fear over their marriage, over their business, over their calling, and they wonder why nothing seems to move forward.
Beloved, you cannot negotiate with fear and still expect God’s full promise to manifest. You must break every agreement you have ever made with fear, in the Name of Jesus.
Whenever fear knocks at your heart, answer it with the Word of God. Do not meditate on your problems; meditate on God’s promises. Speak the Scriptures over your life every day. Declare that the Lord is your refuge, your fortress, your defender, your provider, and your deliverer.
Let your confession agree with God’s Word and not with your fears. Refuse to give fear a permanent residence in your heart. Where faith is alive, fear cannot dominate.
When your answer is taking time, fear will tell you it is not coming at all. When a person has genuine interest for you, fear will tell you be wary of him. When the door has not opened yet, fear will tell you it is permanently shut.
The three Hebrew boys stood before the fire, and even before they knew whether God would deliver them, they declared, “Our God is able to deliver us… but if not, we will still not bow.” That is the spirit you need .
Beloved, from today, refuse to let fear write the story of your life. Let faith hold the pen. Let the Word of God be your final authority over every feeling of dread that rises in your heart. Command every spirit of fear to leave, and command boldness, courage, and divine confidence to take its place, in the mighty Name of Jesus.
Always remember that fear is a spirit, and every spirit contrary to the will of God must bow to the authority of Jesus Christ. Therefore, refuse to partner with fear. Walk by faith, not by sight. Trust God’s leading, obey His instructions, and move forward with confidence, knowing that the One who called you is faithful and will never leave nor forsake you.
Beloved, fear is not your friend; it is your enemy. It is a spirit that must be resisted and cast out. Do not make room for fear in your heart because whatever you permit will eventually control you. God did not create you to live in bondage, anxiety, or constant worry. He created you to walk in faith, courage, and victory.
Today, make a decision to reject every fear that has been limiting your progress. Cast out the fear of failure, the fear of rejection, the fear of bad news, the fear of sickness, the fear of death, the fear of witchcraft, the fear of poverty, and the fear of the future.
Do not allow fear to stop you from obeying God, pursuing your purpose, or enjoying the blessings He has prepared for you. It is well with you, in Jesus name.
Prophetic Declaration
I decree over your life today, every spirit of fear assigned to torment, intimidate, or limit your destiny is broken by the power in the name of Jesus Christ.
I declare that you shall not live under the bondage of anxiety, panic, or constant worry. The Lord shall fill your heart with His perfect peace, and every troubling thought shall lose its power over your mind.
I prophesy that where fear has stopped your progress, God will release fresh courage. You shall move forward with confidence. You shall not miss your divine opportunities because of fear.
Every fear of failure, rejection, disappointment, sickness, death, witchcraft, poverty, bad news, and the future is uprooted from your life today, in Jesus’ name.
I declare that your faith shall become stronger than your fears. Every mountain standing before you shall become a plain, and every obstacle shall become a testimony.
Receive boldness to obey God’s voice. Receive grace to make the right decisions. Receive confidence to pursue your purpose without hesitation.
Every frightening dream that has been troubling your heart shall not come to pass. Every evil imagination of the enemy against your life is cancelled by the blood of Jesus. The counsel of the Lord alone shall stand concerning you.
Wisdom for Today
Fear will always show you the size of your problems, but faith will always show you the greatness of your God. Never allow fear to make decisions that God has already settled with His Word. The opportunities you refuse to pursue because of fear may become the testimonies you later wish you had embraced. When God leads you, move forward with confidence, knowing that His presence is your greatest security.
Personal Reflection
Take a few quiet moments today and prayerfully reflect on these questions:
- What fear has been controlling my life recently?
- Am I making decisions based on faith or based on fear?
- Has fear stopped me from obeying God’s instruction?
- What opportunity have I missed due to fear?
- Am I allowing the opinions of people to influence my obedience to God?
- Is there anyone I need to forgive, approach, or reconcile with, but fear has held me back?
- Have I been praying with faith or praying out of panic and anxiety?
- What negative thoughts do I need to replace with God’s promises?
- Do I truly believe that God is with me wherever I go?
- What step of faith is God asking me to take today?
- Am I expecting God’s goodness, or am I constantly expecting something bad to happen?
- If fear were removed from my life today, what would I boldly do for God?
Personal Challenge
This week, identify one fear that has been limiting your progress and confront it with faith. If God has been prompting you to take a godly step – whether it is starting a project, reconciling with someone, applying for a job, sharing the gospel, accepting a ministry assignment, or making an important decision, stop postponing because of fear.
Each day, declare Joshua 1:9 and 2 Timothy 1:7 over your life. Whenever fearful thoughts arise, reject them immediately and replace them with God’s promises. Refuse to meditate on negative possibilities, and meditate on God’s faithfulness.
Do one thing this week that fear has been preventing you from doing something, provided it is consistent with God’s Word and guided by godly wisdom. Let your actions demonstrate that your confidence is in God and not in your circumstances.
Challenge: Do not allow fear to make a single decision for you this week. Let every decision be guided by faith, wisdom, and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Evangelism Challenge
Prayerfully look for at least one person – a family member, friend, neighbour, colleague, or stranger and share the love of Christ with them. Tell them how God has been faithful to you, encourage them with a Bible verse, and invite them to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour if they have not done so.
If you cannot preach in person, send a Scripture, a gospel message, or today’s devotional to someone who needs encouragement. Let your life be a light that points others to Christ.
