EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: July 10, 2026 – The Traffic of Life, The Lessons
Every day, millions of people sit in traffic. The cars are many. The road is narrow. The horns are blowing. Some drivers are angry; others are shouting.
Some are already late for an important meeting, while others have given up hope that they will ever reach their destination early. This is the frustrating picture of traffic that we see on our roads every day.
But beloved, traffic is not just something that happens on the road. Traffic is also a picture of life. There are seasons when your journey will feel like a massive traffic jam. You won’t be moving fast; instead, your progress will be halted.
Everybody around you may seem to be moving forward, while you feel like you are standing completely still. You look to your left, and someone is overtaking you. You look to your right, and somebody else is zooming past you.
In those moments, you will begin to ask God, “Why am I not moving? Why is my case so different? Why have I been stuck here for so long?” But hear this: when you are stuck in traffic, it does not mean you will never reach your destination.
It simply means you have not arrived yet. Beloved, there is a massive difference between delay and denial. Delay says, “Not now.” Denial says, “Never.”
Too many people confuse the two, and that confusion causes them to abandon their God-given dreams prematurely. Look at the children of Israel standing before the Red Sea.
In front of them was an impassable ocean; behind them was Pharaoh’s ruthless army. It looked like a permanent roadblock- a horrific traffic jam with absolutely no exit.
But the Bible tells us that Moses said unto the people, “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day” (Exodus 14:13). What looked like the end of the road was only a delay before a divine breakthrough.
Whatever gridlock you are facing today whether in your marriage, your finances, your career, or your health – know this: delay is not denial! God is not saying “no” to you. He is simply saying, “Be patient for a little while; your turn is coming!”
One vital truth about traffic is this: not everyone stuck beside you is going to the same place. Some people in that gridlock are driving to a wedding, while others are traveling to a burial.
Some are heading to the office, and some are driving to the market. You are all trapped in the exact same traffic, but you do not share the same destination. This carries a powerful lesson: never compare your journey with someone else’s journey.
Do not compare your traffic with someone else’s traffic. Your peers may be moving faster simply because their assignment is smaller than yours. Your own load may be heavier because your ultimate destination is far greater.
God is not unfair; He simply designs a customized route for everyone. Stop comparing your season with another man’s season, and stop measuring your grace by another man’s grace.
Focus on your own lane and allow God to steer you to your appointed place. No traffic jam is permanent. No matter how terrible the hold-up may be, the road will eventually open, and the vehicles will begin to move again. This is one of the most comforting truths about gridlock: it always comes to an end.
Beloved, the Bible says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). Your present traffic is not your permanent address. You are only passing through.
The prophet Isaiah declared, “They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles” (Isaiah 40:31). That word “wait” there is not a passive waiting. It is an active, expectant waiting, the kind that trusts that the jam will soon clear.
Do not build a permanent house in your season of delay. Do not settle down and make peace with the roadblock as if it is your final bus stop. Keep your engine running. Keep your hope alive. The gridlock of today is not the story of your tomorrow!
Sometimes, you are held up in one place, complaining and murmuring, not knowing that if you had moved five minutes earlier, you would have met with an accident ahead of you. What looks like frustration may actually be divine protection.
There are people alive today because God delayed them at one junction of life. They missed a flight that later crashed. They were late for a meeting that later turned violent. They could not catch up with a business deal that later collapsed.
Beloved, the very traffic you are murmuring about right now may be the protective hand of God holding you back from a disaster you cannot see. This is why we must learn to trust God even in the gridlock. He sees the entire road.
You only see your small portion of the road, but He sees the end from the beginning. Trust His timing, because His timing is flawless even when it makes absolutely no sense to you. Furthermore, traffic exposes the true nature of people.
Some become incredibly hostile in a jam. They begin to shout, blare their horns, insult other drivers, break traffic regulations, and drive recklessly on the wrong side of the road, simply because they want to move faster than everyone else.
Yet, others remain calm, patient, and orderly, even when the gridlock is terrible. The exact same truth applies to the spiritual traffic of life: how you behave during your season of delay reveals the true content of your character.
When some people find themselves held back in life, they begin to question or even curse God. They envy their neighbors and frantically search for shortcuts, thereby cutting corners in business, compromising in relationships, or making dangerous, ungodly alliances just to “beat the traffic” of life.
But beloved, the shortcut of sin will only lead you into a catastrophic accident. The Bible exhorts us in James 1:2-3, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”
Verse 4 continues, “But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” Therefore, let the traffic of your life produce patience in you, not bitterness. Let it produce maturity, not manipulation. Let it forge faith in you, not fear.
Remember this: nobody enters a traffic jam to become a permanent resident. Traffic is only a temporary phase of the journey; it is not the final destination. There is a purpose waiting for you, a destiny calling your name, and a divine promise waiting for you at the end of this road.
Beloved, do not let the frustrating traffic of today cause you to forget your ultimate destination. Do not allow the gridlock of this current season to make you abandon your dream, your calling, your marriage, your business, or your God-given assignment!
Keep your eyes on where you are going, not on how slow you are moving. As Psalm 27:14 declares, “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
While natural traffic is caused by an influx of vehicles on a narrow road, there is also a spiritual traffic engineered by wicked spirits assigned to hold your destiny down. The Bible explicitly calls the devil a hinderer.
The Apostle Paul recounted in 1 Thessalonians 2:18, “Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.” If satanic powers could attempt to hinder a frontline apostle, they will certainly try to block you too.
Some traffic in your life is not ordinary; it is programmed by witchcraft powers and household enemies. It is designed by evil altars raised against your destiny to keep you permanently stuck at a particular junction of life while your peers move forward.
This is why we must not only endure the traffic naturally, but also confront it spiritually through violent, aggressive prayer. You must rise up today and command every satanic traffic controller assigned to your life to be scattered by fire.
You must fight until every roadblock erected by the enemy against your marriage, your finances, your ministry, your health, and your destiny is pulled down in the name of Jesus.
Beloved, one reason vehicles get held up in traffic is overloading. A vehicle that is carrying more than its capacity will struggle to climb even a small hill. It will break down at the very point where it needs to move fastest.
This is a picture of many believers today. Some of you are not moving because you are carrying too much load, the load of unforgiveness, the load of bitterness, the load of past hurts, the load of unbelief, the load of secret sin.
You cannot carry all that weight and expect to move at the speed of your breakthrough. The writer of Hebrews said it plainly: “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).
Today, drop the load. Forgive the person who hurt you. Let go of the offense that is chaining you to that junction. You cannot carry yesterday’s baggage and expect to arrive at tomorrow’s destination.
When you are in a bad hold-up and you see a traffic warden ahead, directing the cars, something in you relaxes. You know that somebody is in control. You know the confusion will not go on forever, because there is an authority managing the situation.
Beloved, no matter how confused your traffic looks, your Traffic Warden has not left His post. God is still on the throne. He sees every lane, every driver, every obstruction. Nothing about your case is outside His control.
Even when it seems like chaos, heaven is directing your case. As it is written, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way” (Psalm 37:23). Rest, because the One directing your traffic cannot make a mistake.
Somebody reading this devotional today has been in the same spot for years. You have watched mates who started after you get married before you, get promoted before you, build before you, deliver before you.
The enemy has been using this to plant seeds of discouragement and self-pity in your heart. The Lord says to you today: your case is not forgotten. The same God who held back the Egyptian army at the Red Sea until Israel crossed over is the same God holding back every obstacle standing in your way.
This is not the end of your story. What looks like an endless jam is about to break open suddenly, the way traffic breaks open once the obstruction ahead is cleared. Receive that word. Let it settle into your spirit. Your set time has come.
Close your eyes for a moment. Picture every situation that has held you down, that job that refuses to come, that womb that refuses to open, that marital breakthrough that refuses to manifest, that business that refuses to expand, that healing that refuses to show.
See it as a roadblock mounted by darkness. Now see the fire of the Holy Ghost falling on that roadblock and consuming it completely. Begin to pray these prayers now, not casually, but with violence in your spirit, because “the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force” (Matthew 11:12)
Beloved, sometimes you are stuck in traffic and you cannot see any reason for it. There is no accident near you. There is no construction near you. But far ahead, something is happening that you cannot see, and it is affecting your own portion of the road.
By the time you get there, the situation has already been cleared, but you experienced the effect of it all the way back where you were sitting. This is a deep truth about the traffic of life. Some of what you are passing through is not because of anything you did. It is not your sin.
It is not your mistake. It is something happening far ahead, in the spirit realm, that you cannot see, a battle being fought on your behalf, a negotiation being settled in heaven concerning your case, an enemy being disarmed before you arrive at that point.
Job did not know what was happening in the heavenlies when his own traffic became terrible, but the outcome of that hidden battle became his double portion. Stop blaming yourself for every hold-up.
Some of it has nothing to do with you; it has everything to do with a battle God is fighting on your behalf. In traffic, you will notice people who blow their horns endlessly, as if the noise will push the cars ahead out of the way.
But horn-blowing does not clear traffic. It only raises blood pressure. It only creates more tension. The traffic moves when it is time for the traffic to move, not when the horn has been sounded the loudest.
Beloved, I want you to receive this ministration into your spirit. Somewhere ahead of you, your traffic is already clearing. Angels are working. Situations are shifting. People who need to say yes to you are already being softened.
Doors that have been shut are already being oiled at the hinges. You do not see it yet, but it is happening. Just as the woman with the issue of blood pressed through a crowded, traffic-filled path and touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and received her healing instantly, your own suddenly is being prepared even now.
Begin to thank God, not because you have arrived, but because you know your suddenly is near. The Bible shows us that Daniel prayed for twenty-one days, but his answer did not come immediately, not because God was slow, but because a prince of darkness was standing in the way, resisting the answer from coming through.
The angel told Daniel plainly, “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days” (Daniel 10:13). This tells us something serious: sometimes the traffic you are experiencing is not because God has refused to answer.
God answered from the very first day you prayed. The delay is caused by a wicked power positioned along the way to intercept your breakthrough before it gets to you.
This is why some people pray for years and see no result, not because God is silent, but because there is an interceptor working against the answer.
Beloved, today, we are not just going to endure this traffic. We are going to fight until every interceptor assigned against our breakthrough is dealt with. What you say while you are stuck matters.
Words carry power. The children of Israel murmured in the wilderness traffic, and that generation never saw the Promised Land. Their words became their prison. Beloved, be careful what you say when you are delayed.
Do not say, “I will never make it.” Do not say, “This is how my life will end.” Do not say, “Everybody has moved forward, only me that is finished.” Every one of those words is a legal agreement with the enemy, giving him more ground to hold you down.
Instead, begin to speak like Caleb, who said forty years later, “As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me… give me this mountain” (Joshua 14:11-12).
Caleb refused to let years of wilderness traffic change his confession. He came out still strong, still confident, still expecting his portion. Beloved, your mouth must not agree with your delay. Your mouth must agree with your destiny.
Prophetic Declaration
I declare in the mighty name of Jesus that every delay in my life shall turn into divine acceleration. I shall not miss my appointed time, and I shall not arrive late to God’s purpose for my life. Every traffic on my journey to greatness is giving way by the power of God.
I decree that every obstacle, setback, and limitation standing before my progress shall be removed. The Lord shall order my steps, direct my path, and cause every delay to work together for my good. What was meant to frustrate me shall become a testimony, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!
Key Lessons for Today
- Complaining, envying, and looking for shortcuts of sin will only worsen your traffic. But patience, worship, and steadfast faith in the waiting season will produce the maturity that carries you into your next level.
- The traffic of life is temporary. If you remain faithful, God will bring you to your appointed destination.
- Waiting on God is never a waste of time. He is working behind the scenes even when you cannot see it.
- Never compare your journey with others. God’s timing and purpose for your life are unique.
Personal Challenge
Take a moment right now, before you move on with your day, and identify one specific area of your life where you have been “stuck in traffic” like a marriage, a business, a healing, a ministry assignment, a relocation, a financial breakthrough. Write it down on a piece of paper or in your phone notes.
Then do these three things:
1. Confess it out loud. Speak Psalm 27:14 over that situation: “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Do not just read it silently, declare it with your mouth over that specific situation.
2. Drop one load. Identify one thing you have been carrying like unforgiveness, bitterness, self-pity, comparison with someone else’s progress and consciously release it to God today. Do not carry it into tomorrow.
Stop the horn-blowing. For the next 24 hours, refuse to complain about that situation to anyone. Every time you feel the urge to murmur about it, turn it into praise instead. Thank God in advance for the breakthrough, even before you see it.
Evangelism Challenge
Think of at least one person in your life right now who is going through a hold-up like a friend, a family member, a colleague, a neighbour; someone who has been complaining about being stuck, delayed, or held back in some area of their life. It may be someone struggling in their marriage, their business, their health, or someone who has completely lost hope that things will ever change for them. Reach out to that person today. Do not wait for the perfect moment.
