EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: July 18, 2026 – Think Like a Child of God
One of the greatest battles every believer faces is not the battle on the outside but the battle within the mind. The power of the mind is greater than the power of the mind. Every action and decision we take comes from the mind.
Before the devil attacks a person’s destiny, he often attacks the person’s thinking. He understands that if he can influence your thoughts, he can influence your decisions. If he can influence your decisions, he can influence the direction of your life.
This is why the Christian life is not only about changing our behaviour; it is about changing the way we think. Many people have accepted Christ as their Saviour, but they still think like the world. They pray like believers but reason like unbelievers.
They quote Scriptures, yet their minds remain controlled by fear, doubt, bitterness, envy, and worldly values. God is not interested in changing only your destination; He wants to transform your mind. The Bible says, “As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
This means your thoughts have the power to shape your actions, influence your decisions, and determine the direction of your life. If your mind is constantly filled with fear, doubt, anger, bitterness, failure, and hopelessness, you will gradually begin to act according to those thoughts.
That is why God wants His children to think differently. Today, the Lord is asking you a serious question in today’s devotional: Do you think like a child of God, or do you think like the world? Many people claim to belong to Christ, yet when challenges arise, they respond exactly as those who have no relationship with God.
They panic before they pray. They complain before they believe. They seek human solutions before seeking God’s direction. Their minds have not yet been renewed by the Word of God. Beloved, one of the greatest gifts God has given to man is the mind.
Your mind is the doorway through which thoughts enter, decisions are made, and actions are produced. Before anything becomes a habit, it first begins as a thought. Before a person succeeds or fails, the battle has already taken place in the mind.
The heart is the centre of our thoughts, desires, imagination, and decisions. Whatever enters your mind does not remain there without producing something. Your mind processes everything you see, hear, read, and meditate upon. If you continually feed your mind with fear, fear will eventually control your actions.
If you continually feed your mind with anger, bitterness will soon become part of your character. If you continually entertain lust, envy, pride, or revenge, those thoughts will eventually seek expression through your behaviour. This is why the Bible says in Proverbs 4:23, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
God is telling us to guard our hearts because whatever controls the heart eventually controls our life. You cannot allow anything and everything to enter your mind and expect to live a victorious Christian life. A child of God must have a transformed mind.
The day you gave your life to Christ, your spirit became alive in Him, but your mind still needs continual renewal through the Word of God. Salvation may arrive instant, but the transformation of the mind is a daily process. Every day you must allow God’s Word to correct your thinking, challenge your attitudes, and shape your perspective.
That is why Romans 12:2 says, “Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Notice that the Bible did not say, “Be informed.” It says, “Be transformed.” Information alone does not change a person. Transformation takes place when the truth of God’s Word is accepted, believed, and applied consistently.
Many believers attend church every Sunday, yet their thinking remains worldly. They still judge success the way the world judges it. They They condemn people that has not hurt them. They think every young rich people are not clean. They see certain people as threat to their life when they are innocent.
Beloved, your thinking must be different because your identity is in Christ Jesus. The world says, “Pay back everyone who hurts you.” Christ says, “Love your enemies.” The world says, “Have sex with her before you marry her.” Christ says, “Flee from fornication” The world says, “Look after yourself alone.”
Christ says, “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” The world says, “Hate those who disagree with you.” Christ says, “Forgive… even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Can you see the difference? A child of God cannot continue to think like the world and expect to live like Christ.
Beloved, whatever dominates your thoughts will eventually shape your future. If you constantly think about failure, you will begin to fear opportunities. If you constantly think about rejection, you will struggle to trust people. If you continually suspect everyone around you, your attitude will chase away good people from you.
But when your mind is filled with God’s promises, hope begins to replace fear, faith replaces doubt, and courage replaces anxiety. This is why Paul wrote in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report… think on these things.”
God is not merely giving us positive advice; He is giving us a divine principle. He is telling us what should occupy our minds. Whatever is true, meditate on it. Whatever is pure, think about it. Whatever glorifies God, allow it to remain in your heart. When your thoughts are continually aligned with God’s truth, your life will gradually reflect His character.
Think about a person who reads books on personal development every day but refuses to apply what he learns. His bookshelf may be full, but his life refuses to change. Knowledge without application produces pride instead of growth. The purpose of learning is transformation. The same things applies to the Christian life.
You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation every year. You may memorize hundreds of Scriptures. You may listen to sermons every day. You may have the anointing upon your life. But if the Word does not change your thinking, your decisions, and your character, then you are only gathering information instead of experiencing transformation.
The Word of God must move from your Bible into your mind, from your mind into your heart, and from your heart into your lifestyle. Beloved, think the way Christ thinks. Jesus did not think with pride; He thought with humility. He did not think with hatred; He thought with love. He did not think with selfish ambition; He thought about the Father’s will.
He did not think about revenge against those who crucified Him; He prayed, “Father, forgive them.” He did not allow circumstances to determine His obedience. Even in Gethsemane He declared, “Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” This is the mind God wants every believer to possess.
The devil knows the importance of your thoughts. That is why he constantly sends negative ideas into the minds of believers. “You will never succeed.” “Nobody loves you.” “Your prayers are a waste of time.” “You are too old.” “You have failed too many times.” “God has forgotten you.” These thoughts do not come from God but from satan.
God never speaks hopelessness into the life of His children. Whenever your thoughts push you away from God, destroy your peace, weaken your faith, or make you feel worthless, you must examine them carefully in the light of God’s Word. Do not believe every thought that enters your mind.
Not every thought deserves your attention. Not every feeling should become your decision. Test every thought with Scripture. If it contradicts God’s Word, reject it immediately. Fill your mind with what God has said instead of what fear is saying. Thinking like a child of God also means refusing to allow your circumstances to define your future.
Many people think according to what they see. If there is little money in the account, they conclude that they are still suffering. If they receive one rejection, they conclude that the enemy is fighting them. If one business fails, they believe it is that bad dream they had last night. That is not how God’s children should think.
Faith sees beyond the present situation. Abraham did not look only at his old age; he looked at the promise of God in his life. Joseph did not allow the prison to determine his future because he knew God had given him a dream. Blind Bartimaeus refused to accept blindness as the final chapter of his life.
He cried unto Jesus until his miracle came. Beloved, never allow today’s circumstances to write your tomorrow’s story. Your present condition is temporary, but God’s promises are eternal. Some believers are controlled by negative thinking because of their past experiences.
They have been disappointed so many times that they now expect disappointment in everything they do. When someone wants to help them, they become suspicious. When their church member is in front of the church waiting for the bus going to their route to lift them to a a place, they conclude that they are bad people.
When an opportunity comes, they immediately think it will fail. When people appreciate them, they assume it is not coming from genuine mind. When certain people visit them, they conclude they are dangerously planning evil against them. When God begins a new work in their lives, they still feel it is as a result of their effort.
This is not the mind of Christ. God does not want you to live under the shadow of fear.. He wants to heal your mind. He wants to restore your confidence. He wants to teach you to trust Him again. Not everybody is a suspect and not everyone you should run away from. The Word of God is the medicine that renews the mind.
If you spend more time listening to negative news than reading the Bible, your thoughts will eventually become filled with fear. If you spend more time listening to gossip than listening to God, your heart will become troubled. Whatever enters your mind repeatedly will eventually influence your life. Therefore, feed your mind with God’s Word every day.
Many people expect others to think well of them while they continually think evil about others. They suspect everyone. They celebrate other people’s failures. They envy another person’s progress. They speak negatively behind people’s backs. They judge motives without knowing the facts. Then they wonder why they cannot enjoy healthy relationships.
Beloved, you cannot continually sow negative thoughts and expect to reap peace. Jesus taught us that “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matthew 12:34). The words that come out of your mouth reveal what has been living inside your heart. If your heart is full of bitterness, bitterness will come out. If it is full of love, love will come out. If it is full of faith, faith will come out.
Ask yourself today: What occupies my mind every day? Do you spend more time worrying than praying? Do you meditate more on bad news than on God’s promises? Do you constantly replay offences instead of releasing forgiveness? Do you fill your heart with gossip instead of truth?
Beloved, if you are truly a child of God, your thinking must reflect your heavenly identity. You cannot carry God’s promises in your Bible while carrying unbelief in your mind. God wants you to think with faith. He wants you to think with hope. He wants you to think with wisdom. He wants you to think with love.
He wants you to think according to His Word and not according to your fears. The way you think today will influence where you stand tomorrow. Therefore, ask yourself honestly: “Am I thinking like a child of God?” A child of God does not think like everyone else because he belongs to a different kingdom.
The world says, “There is no hope.” The child of God says, “With God all things are possible.” The world says, “You can never recover.” The child of God says, “My God is able to restore everything I have lost.” The world says, “You are finished.” The child of God says, “This is not the end of my story because God is still writing it.”
The issue is not that believers do not face challenges. The difference is how they think when challenges come. When David stood before Goliath, the soldiers of Israel saw a giant they could not defeat. David saw a giant that could not stand before the living God. The problem was the same, but the mindset was different.
The ten spies who searched the Promised Land saw themselves as grasshoppers. Joshua and Caleb saw the same land, the same giants, and the same cities, yet they believed God would give them victory. Their faith changed their perspective. Beloved, your mindset determines your response to life’s battles.
If you think like a defeated person, you will surrender before the battle begins. If you think like a child of God, you will keep trusting Him even when the situation looks impossible. Beloved, whatever you feed will grow with you. Feed your faith, and your faith will become stronger. Feed your love for God, and your desire for holiness will increase.
Feed your mind with Scripture, and wisdom will begin to guide your decisions. Feed your heart with thanksgiving, and joy will become your daily companion. A transformed life begins with a transformed mind. God wants you to think differently because He has called you to live differently.
When your thinking changes, your words will change. When your words change, your actions will change. When your actions change, your character will change. And when your character reflects Christ, the world will see Jesus through your life. Therefore, beloved, guard your mind. Fill it with the Word of God.
Reject every thought that is contrary to God’s truth. Let the mind of Christ rule your heart every day. As your thinking becomes more like Christ, your life will increasingly reflect His glory. Beloved, your circumstances should not determine your mindset. God’s Word should. When you lose your job, do not think like the world by concluding that your future is over.
Think like a child of God and remember that “my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). When people reject you, do not conclude that no one will love you again. Think like a child of God and remember that you are accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6).
Think like a person who knows his right in Christ. When the doctor gives a difficult report, do not surrender to fear immediately. Think like a child of God by standing upon God’s promises while wisely following appropriate medical care and trusting the Lord through the journey. When people speak against you, refuse to let hatred enter your heart. Continue to walk in love, truth, and integrity.
Beloved, your greatest victory is not merely changing your circumstances. Your greatest victory is allowing Christ to change your thinking. Finally, remember that transformation is a lifelong journey. Every day, ask yourself, “Does my thinking reflect Christ?” If the answer is no, return to the Word. Return to prayer. Return to the Holy Spirit. Let Him continue His work in you.
As your mind is renewed, your faith will become stronger. Your decisions will become better. Your relationships will become healthier. Your character will become more like Jesus. And your life will become a living testimony that you truly are a child of God. Beloved, never stop allowing God to transform your mind. The mind that is surrendered to Christ will live a life that continually brings glory to Him.

I reject every lie of the enemy. I shall not think like a defeated person, but like a victorious child of God. My thoughts shall produce right decisions, my decisions shall bring divine success, and my life shall reflect the glory of God.
I declare that I am led by the Holy Spirit, strengthened by God’s Word, and guided by divine wisdom. My future is blessed, my mind is at peace, and I shall fulfill God’s purpose for my life.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Wisdom for Today
“Your life will always move in the direction of your thoughts. If you think like the world, you will make worldly decisions. But when you think like Christ, your words, character, and actions will reflect His glory.”
Personal Challenge
Today, deliberately examine your thoughts. Ask yourself, “Do I truly think like a child of God, or have I allowed the world’s way of thinking to control my mind?” Identify one negative mindset like fear, anger, bitterness, jealousy, pride, worry, unbelief, or unforgiveness that has been influencing your decisions. Surrender it to God in prayer and replace it with the truth of His Word.
For the next seven days, discipline yourself to meditate on Scripture before you listen to the opinions of people or the negativity around you. Let every decision, every conversation, and every reaction reflect the character of Christ. Remember, your life will never rise above the quality of your thinking. When your mind is transformed by God’s Word, your life will begin to reflect His glory.
Evangelism Challenge
Encourage someone who is discouraged, fearful, or losing hope. Share the Word of God with them and remind them that they are valuable to God and that He has a good plan for their life. Let your words inspire them to trust Christ, renew their mind with God’s promises, and begin to think like a true child of God.
