EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: June 5, 2026 – When God Gives You Another Chance

One of the greatest expressions of God’s love is His willingness to give people another chance. If God dealt with us strictly according to our mistakes, failures, weaknesses, and sins, many of us would not be where we are today. Yet, because of His mercy, He restores, forgives, rebuilds, and gives us fresh opportunities.

The Bible is full of people who received another chance from God. Jonah disobeyed God’s instruction and ran away from his divine assignment. Yet after his failure, God spoke to him again. The word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time. God did not abandon him because of one mistake.

Many believers carry guilt because of past failures. Some made wrong decisions. Some missed thier opportunities. Some ignored divine instructions. Others wandered away from God for a season. But our God is a God of restoration. He specializes in giving people another opportunity to fulfill their purpose.

A second chance is not something we deserve; it is a product of God’s mercy. Every new day is evidence that God has not finished with you. Every opportunity to repent is proof that God still cares about your future. Every open door after a setback is a reminder that His grace is still working in your life.

However, when God gives you another chance, it should not be taken for granted. Many people waste their second chance because they continue in the same mistakes that caused their downfall. A second chance should produce gratitude, wisdom, humility, and obedience.

A second chance is not permission to continue in sin. It is an opportunity to correct your ways, obey God, and do better than before. When God gives you another chance, don’t waste it. Don’t play with it. Don’t return to the same mistake that almost destroyed you.

God gave Peter another chance after he denied Jesus. God restored David after his failure. God gave Samson an opportunity to fulfill part of his calling even after serious mistakes. Throughout Scripture, we see God’s mercy reaching people who thought their story was over.

Perhaps you feel that you have failed God, missed an opportunity, made costly mistakes, or wasted precious years in life. Please do not lose hope. As long as God is giving you breath, your story is not finished. His mercy can restore what was lost and redirect you toward His purpose.

Today, thank God for every second chance He has given you and determine not to waste the opportunities He places before you. When God gives you another chance, it means mercy has spoken over judgment in your life. It means God has looked beyond your mistake, your delay, your disobedience, your weakness, and your failure, and has decided to open another great door for you.

Many people are alive today not because they are perfect, but because God gave them another chance. A second chance is not something we deserve; it is a gift of divine mercy. There are people who should have died before now but God spared them. There are people who should have lost everything in life but God preserved them.

There are people who walked away from God but He drew them back through His mercy. There are people who failed repeatedly, yet God refused to abandon them. Every new day is evidence that God has not given up on us. When God gives you another chance, it is not an opportunity to repeat old mistakes.

But it’s an opportunity to make quick corrections and walk in obedience. Many people pray for restoration, but when restoration comes, they continue the same behaviours that created the problem in the first place. Jonah was called by God to preach to Nineveh. Instead of obeying, he ran in the opposite direction.

His disobedience led to storms, danger, and a season of captivity inside the belly of a great fish. Yet God did not abandon Jonah. After Jonah repented, God gave him another chance to fulfil his assignment. Many people would have written Jonah off, but God still saw purpose in his life.

Perhaps you have made mistakes in life. Perhaps you have ignored God’s instructions. Perhaps you have abandoned your spiritual responsibilities. The same God who restored Jonah can restore you today.

Beloved, maybe you once missed an opportunity. Maybe you disobeyed an instruction. Maybe you delayed what God asked you to do. Maybe you fell into error, wrong association, wrong decision, or spiritual carelessness. Today, God is reminding you that another chance is possible.

One reason God gives another chance is because His plans for your life are not easily abandoned. He sees what you can become in life even when others have written you off. Men may judge you based on your past or mistakes, but God looks at the future He has prepared for you. Do not spend all your energy regretting yesterday. Learn from your mistakes, repent where necessary, and move forward with faith.

Your future can still be brighter than your past if you surrender your life completely to God. When God gives you another chance, He expects growth. One of the greatest tragedies is when people repeat the same mistakes over and over again. The purpose of a second chance is not merely to start again; it is to start again with greater wisdom. A student who fails an examination and is given another opportunity should prepare better.

A driver who survives an accident, he’s giving a second chance should drive more carefully. A believer who receives divine restoration should become more obedient. Every lesson learned from our failures becomes a stepping stone toward future success. A married who got pregnant outside her wedlock and deliver a baby should think twice.

Sometimes God gives another chance through a delayed judgment. There are situations where people should have faced severe consequences for their actions, yet God’s mercy intervened. This is not because we deserved it, but because God desired to give us time to repent, grow, and change. This is why we should never abuse God’s patience.

The fact that God has not judged a matter immediately does not mean He approves of it. It may simply mean He is giving an opportunity for correction. Another important lesson is that a second chance does not always look the way we expect. Many people pray for restoration, expecting God to return everything exactly as it was given to them in the first place.

However, God may open a completely new door instead. Sometimes He restores by giving something better than what was lost. Joseph lost his position in Potiphar’s house, but God eventually elevated him to become a ruler in Egypt. What seemed like a loss to him became a pathway to something greater. There are people today who regretted their wasted years.

Some wasted years in wrong relationships. Some wasted years in sin. Some wasted years pursuing things that had no eternal value. Others wasted years running from God’s calling. Yet God is able to redeem time and show mercy. He can accomplish in a few years what would normally take decades. He can accelerate progress when a person genuinely turns back to Him.

The story of the prodigal son teaches us something powerful about God’s heart. When the son returned home, the father did not reject him. He did not make him earn his way back into the family. Instead, he welcomed him back with compassion and celebration. This reveals God’s attitude toward sincere repentance. When a person genuinely returns to God, heaven rejoices.

However, we must remember that another chance requires responsibility. The prodigal son could not continue wasting his inheritance and expect endless restoration. One reason some people never experience the fullness of restoration is because they remain trapped in self-condemnation. They keep replaying their failures in their minds.

They constantly remind themselves of what they did wrong.  While it is good to learn from our mistakes, it is also dangerous to live permanently under the weight of guilt. If God has forgiven you, do not continue condemning yourself. Accept His forgiveness and move forward. The enemy often attacks people after they receive another chance from God.

He quickly whispers the following lies such as: “You will fail again.” “God cannot use you anymore.” “Your best days are behind you.” “People will never trust you again.” These lies are designed to discourage your faith and confidence. But God’s Word declares that His mercy is new every morning. When God restores a person, He restores completely.

He also provides the grace needed to move forward successfully. Moses received another chance through a burning bush experience after spending years in the wilderness. Never despise your small beginnings. Your next opportunity may be the doorway to your greatest testimony. God also gives another chance in spiritual matters.

Some believers were once fervent in prayer, holiness, and Bible study, but gradually drifted away. Yet God keeps calling them back. If you can still hear His voice convicting you, it means His mercy is still available or at work in your life. The worst condition is not making a mistake; it is refusing to return to God after making one.

When God gives you another chance in your marriage, cherish it. When He gives you another chance in your ministry, value it. When He gives you another chance in your career, maximize it. When He gives you another chance to repent, do not postpone it. Tomorrow might be too late.

Many people spend years praying for open doors while ignoring the doors God has already reopened. The fact that you are alive, healthy enough to pray, and able to seek God means that another chance is already in your hands. Use it wisely. Remember that God’s mercy may open the door, but your discipline will help you stay there.

Mercy can restore a ministry, but discipline sustains it. Mercy can restore a marriage, but wisdom preserves it. Mercy can restore a destiny, but obedience secures it. There are moments in life when another chance comes disguised as a warning. A sickness that could have become fatal but God did not. A road accident that you survived.

A business collapse that taught you valuable lessons. A relationship failure that opened your eyes. A dream that warned you before danger arrived. Sometimes these experiences are God’s way of saying, “My son, my daughter, I am giving you another opportunity. Use it wisely.”

Another chance may also come through people. God may send someone to encourage you, mentor you, forgive you, support you, or open a door for you. Never take such opportunities lightly. Some of the greatest blessings in life come through relationships that God uses as instruments of restoration. When God gives you another chance, He is revealing that His plans for you are still alive.

The devil wants people to believe that one mistake has destroyed their future forever. This is why many people live in guilt, regret, and self-condemnation. They spend years looking backward instead of moving forward. God does not want His children to remain trapped in yesterday’s failures. He wants them to learn from the past and walk into the future He has prepared for them.

There are people who only seek God during crises and storms. When trouble comes, they pray fervently. When God answers them, they disappear from His presence. Such people misunderstand the purpose of mercy. God’s blessings are not meant to separate us from Him. They are meant to strengthen our relationship with Him.

If God has given you another chance, let that chance produce greater faithfulness. God’s second chances often produce greater testimonies than the first opportunity. Many people become more prayerful after God has blessed them. They become more humble after divine correction. They become more useful after their deliverance.

They become more compassionate after the season of suffering.  What looked like a setback in their life becomes part of their testimony. The very place where they failed becomes the place where God displays His glory. Do not allow shame to stop you from starting again. Do not allow regret to stop you from believing again. Do not allow criticism to stop you from obeying God again.

There will always be people who remember your mistakes, but God remembers His covenant. There will always be people who focus on your past, but God focuses on your destiny. Whenever God gives a person another chance, He is making a powerful statement: “My mercy is still working.” Therefore, rise up from discouragement.

Return to your prayer altar. Return to your calling. Return to your assignment. Return to your faith. The God of another chance is still on the throne, and He is able to restore everything the enemy thought was permanently lost. As believers, we should also be willing to give others another chance when wisdom permits.

The same mercy we have received from God should influence how we treat people. While there are situations that require boundaries and caution, we must avoid becoming harsh, unforgiving, and judgmental. God has been patient with us; therefore, we should reflect His grace toward others.

Today, take time to thank God for every second chance He has given you. Thank Him for the prayers He answered, the dangers He prevented, the mistakes He forgave, and the opportunities He restored. Some people did not receive another chance, but God’s mercy preserved you. Make sure you do not waste the season you are in now. Do not postpone obedience again. Do not delay repentance. Do not ignore divine instructions.

The opportunity before you today may be God’s gift of another chance. The story of Jonah teaches us that God can restart a destiny that has been interrupted. Jonah ran from God’s assignment, but God did not replace him. Instead, God corrected him and gave him another chance. The same God is still at work today. No matter how far you have gone, God can bring you back to His purpose if you are willing to surrender.

As you reflect on your life today, ask yourself: What chance has God already given me that I am neglecting? Is it a chance to pray more? A chance to reconcile with someone? A chance to obey a divine instruction? A chance to return to my calling? A chance to serve God with greater commitment? Whatever it is, do not waste it again.

The God who gave Jonah another chance, restored Peter after failure, David after committing adultery, Samson after disobedience and compromised,  Moses after killing an Egyptian, Jacob deceived his father and brother, yet God transformed his life, changed his name to Israel, and made him the father of a great nation and welcomed the prodigal son back home is still extending His hand of mercy to you today.

The opportunity before you today may be the answer to the prayers (someone) you have prayed for years. Embrace it, nurture it, and use it for the glory of God. God’s mercy is saying to someone reading this devotion today: “Get up again. Pray again. Believe again. Trust again. Try again. You are not condemned. Your story is not over.”It shall be well with you in Jesus name.

I declare over your life today: mercy will speak for you. God will give you another chance. Every mistake that the enemy wants to use to bury your destiny shall become a platform for your restoration. You will rise again. You will recover again. You will testify again. In Jesus’ name.

Closing Reflection

God is not only the God of new beginnings; He is also the God of second chance. If He has given you another opportunity to pray, to serve, to repent, to obey, to rebuild, or to pursue your purpose, do not take it lightly. Many people spend their lives wishing they could go back and correct their mistakes, but mercy has placed another opportunity in your hands today.

Today, thank God for every second chance He has given you, and determine in your heart not to waste the opportunities again that His mercy has placed before you. Never think God is finished with you because you made a mistake. The same God who corrected Jonah, restored Peter, strengthened Samson, and received the prodigal son can also restore you. Another chance is a gift of mercy. Use it well, walk wisely, and obey God quickly.
