EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: June 2, 2026 – The Prayer the Devil Fears Most

Many people ask, “What kind of prayer does the devil fear most?” Is it loud prayer? Is it midnight prayer? Is it fasting prayer? Is it warfare prayer?

While all these types of prayers are important, the prayer the devil fears most is the prayer that brings a believer closer to God and destroys his influence over that person’s life.

The devil is not afraid of empty religious words. He is not afraid of prayer that is done to impress others. He is not afraid of prayer that comes from an uncommitted heart. He’s not even afraid of your title. He’s not afriad of deceptive or manipulative prayer?

What he fears most is sincere, faith-filled, persistent prayer according to God’s will. The devil fears many things, but one thing he fears greatly is a believer who knows how to pray according to the will of God and refuses to give up on challenges. Satan is not afraid of your name. But he is afraid of the prayers that carry the power and the presence of God.

Satan does not have power at all. He only uses the vulnerable Christians and make them afraid. The Bible says at the mention of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven or on earth. One reason Satan fights prayer so much these days is because prayer connects believers to divine power.

Prayer gives us free access to God’s wisdom, protection, guidance, and strength. The enemy knows that a praying Christian is harder to deceive, harder to discourage, and harder to destroy. The enemy knows that the moment God answers your prayers, he’s finished and defeated.

There is no servants of God in the Bible who prayed fervently and sincerely to God without receiving an answer. God may not always answer immediately, but He always responds according to His perfect will and timing. From Hannah to Daniel, from Elijah to Jabez, we see that earnest prayers moved the hand of God.

Interestingly, before we even begin to pray certain prayers, the devil already knows the danger those prayers pose to his kingdom. He understands that some prayers have the power to break chains, expose hidden works of darkness, destroy evil strongholds, and bring long-awaited breakthroughs.

Have you noticed that some prayers seem to flow easily without much resistance? You pray them, and everything appears calm. But have you also noticed that whenever you begin to pray certain targeted prayers, opposition suddenly increases? Strange distractions arise, unusual attacks occur, discouragement comes, and challenges seem to multiply.

The reason is simple: those prayers are hitting the enemy’s territory. They are confronting the powers behind the problem. They are targeting satanic strongholds, evil altars, and long-standing works of darkness. The enemy becomes uncomfortable because he knows that if those prayers continue, his plans will be exposed and destroyed.

This is why many believers experience greater resistance when they pray the prayers of deliverance, restoration, revival, destiny recovery, family liberation, and spiritual breakthrough. The increased opposition or attack is a clear indication that your prayers are making an impact in the spirit realm.

Do not be discouraged when resistance comes. Instead, let it strengthen your determination to pray even more. The fiercest battles often occur when the enemy realizes he is about to lose his grip. Keep praying, keep believing, and keep standing on God’s Word. Every stronghold must eventually bow to the power of persistent, faith-filled prayer.

One of the prayers the devil fears most is not necessarily the longest prayer, the loudest prayer, or even the most emotional prayer. The prayer the devil fears most is the prayer that brings mercy. It is the prayer that touches heaven and changes a person’s condition by the power of divine mercy. The enemy fears prayers that bring divine mercy.

Many people underestimate the power of mercy. When a believer cries for God’s mercy, heaven show mercy. Blind Bartimaeus cried for mercy and received his sight. The thief on the cross found mercy at the final hour. Satan fears mercy prayers because mercy gives people another chance when he wants them condemned.

Another prayer the enemy fears is the prayer of forgiveness. The enemy knows one of the reasons why prayers are unanswered is because of unforgiveness. The enemy also uses the weapon of bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, wickedness to keep people in spiritual bondage.

But when a believer forgives genuinely, God forgives the person too and the ways of that person will be opened to receive more blessing from God. Selfish prayer does not move satan. Even if you bind and cast out, if the prayers are done out of selfishness, it may not produce the needed results.

The enemy also fears prayers that focus only on God’s kingdom. When believers pray for souls to be saved, for the Gospel to spread, and for lives to be transformed, they are attacking the very works of darkness. The devil is always fighting against the church.

But the good news is that, they have always failed. He does not want the kingdom of God to be populated. He does not want you to to church or believe your prophet. If you are doing the work of the Kingdom, though there may be more attack, but they will not prevail over you.

Many people pray, but not every prayer produces the same result. There are prayers that remain ordinary and never goes out of the ceiling, and there are prayers that shake the foundations of darkness. The prayer the devil fears most is the prayer that comes from a surrendered heart, backed by faith, righteousness, persistence, and the authority of Jesus Christ.

The devil fears prayers of repentance. One of the greatest weapons Satan uses against believers today is sin. Sin creates a wall between man and God. He knows once a believer is into sin, they have lost that authority over them. He knows that once a person sincerely repents and turns away from his sin, he will be in more trouble.

The enemy loses his legal ground immediately he notice you have taken a prayer of repentance. This is why genuine repentance often attracts spiritual resistance more than any prayers. Satan knows that a repentant believer becomes dangerous to his kingdom. David prayed in Psalm 51 after his failure, and God restored him.

The prodigal son returned to his father and found mercy. Every time a sinner returns back to God, heaven rejoices and hell trembles. The devil also fears prayers that seek God’s presence. The devil can tolerate many activities, but he cannot comfortably operate where the presence of God is strong.

Many people pray only for money, marriage, promotion, and success. While these things are important, the believer who prays, “O Lord, let me know You more,” becomes a threat to darkness. Moses prayed, “O Lord, show me Your glory.”   Throughout the Bible, whenever God’s presence appeared, darkness was forced to retreat.

The enemy knows that when a believer genuinely seeks God’s presence, transformation is inevitable. Paul prayed that he might know Christ more. When a person becomes intimate with God, the power and the authority of Christ flows well in the life of a person. The devil also fears believers who trust in God more than man, focus on the assignment God gave them because such people are very difficult to deceive and manipulate.

Another prayer the devil fears is the prayer of complete surrender to Christ. When Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, He said, “Not my will, but let thy will be done.” That prayer changed everything. Satan prefers people who insist on their own ways. But fears believers who are willing to obey God regardless of the cost.

Surrender brings salavation; divine guidance, protection, and promotion. A surrendered life who has been sold out to God. A person who has surrendered his life is operating in victory. When you have surrenderd all to God, your prayers will begin to give your enemy serious headache.

The devil also fears prayers that are based on the Word of God. The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit. When believers pray using scriptures, they are praying according to God’s promises.  Satan cannot successfully fight God’s Word. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He repeatedly answered, “It is written.”

The enemy had no answer to the written Word. Every prayer rooted in scripture carries heavenly authority and victory. The devil fears persistent prayer. He wants people to stop praying before their breakthrough arrives. He understands that many victories happen shortly before people decide to quit.

This is why he attacks prayer with tiredness, distractions, doubts, and frustration. The widow in Luke 18 continued to seek justice until she received an answer.

Persistence prayer breaks all kinds of barrier and bindage. When believers refuse to quit praying, darkness eventually gives way. The devil fears midnight prayer. Throughout the Bible, many significant spiritual battles and breakthroughs happened during the night seasons.

Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises at midnight, and the prison doors opened. Midnight prayer confronts works of darkness because many evil operations are carried out in spiritual darkness.

A believer who regularly seeks God during the night hours often develops greater spiritual sensitivity and strength. The devil also fears prayers that release thanksgiving and praise. Most people do not even realize that praise is a weapon. When King Jehoshaphat faced a mighty enemy, the singers went before the army praising God.

As they praised God, God set ambushments against their enemies. The truth is that, satan hates praise because praise invites God’s presence and power. Where God’s presence is strong, darkness cannot remain but flee immediately. The devil also fears prayers that break ancestral patterns.

There are families where certain problems repeat from generation to generation. Some people experience repeated failure, delay, poverty, addiction, divorce, sickness, or premature death. When believers rise in prayer and declare that these patterns will end in their generation, the kingdom of darkness becomes troubled.

Every chain can be broken through the power of Jesus Christ. The devil fears prayers of spiritual discernment. One of the Satan’s greatest advantages is secrecy. He prefers to work unnoticed. He wants people to remain spiritually blind. But when believers pray for discernment, God begins to expose hidden traps, hidden enemies, and hidden dangers.

Many people have escaped accidents, fraud, wrong relationships, and spiritual attacks because through prayers God revealed to people in their dreams. The devil fears prayers of the salvation of souls. Nothing threatens Satan more than people leaving his kingdom and entering God’s kingdom.

The devil fears prayers that invoke the blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus speaks mercy, redemption, victory, and protection. Through the blood, believers overcome accusations, condemnation, and spiritual attacks. Satan cannot successfully stand against the blood that defeated him at Calvary.

Most importantly, the devil fears prayers offered in the name of Jesus. There is power in the name of Jesus. Demons tremble at that name of Jesus. Sickness bows to the name of Jesus. Evil powers recognize that name wherever they are. Jesus said that whatever we ask in His name according to God’s will shall be done.

The authority of the believer rests in the finished work of Christ. The truth is that the devil is not afraid of a Christian who occasionally prays when trouble comes. But he fears the believer who has developed a lifestyle of prayer over time. He fears the man or woman whose altar is always burning.

He fears the believer who prays whether circumstances are good or bad. He fears the person who understands spiritual authority and refuses to surrender to fear and oppression.

The prayer the devil fears most is the prayer of a righteous believer who knows God, believes His Word, walks in obedience, and refuses to stop praying. The prayers of the righteous are effective to pull down strongholds, destroy satanic plans, release divine favour, and establish God’s purpose.

Never allow your prayer altar to become cold. The moment your prayer life grows cold, the enemy finds room to settle in one’s life comfortably and begin to operate there . But when your altar burns continually, no weapon fashioned against you shall prosper, angels move into action to protect you.

Another prayer the enemy fears is, “O Lord, expose every hidden enemy and trap around me.” Satan prefers to work behind the scenes to attack people. He likes hidden attacks, secret manipulations, and unnoticed traps. But when a believer asks God for revelation and discernment, hidden works of darkness begin to lose their power.

The devil fears prayers that seek spiritual wisdom. Wisdom helps believers avoid unnecessary battles and costly mistakes. Many problems that prayer solves today could have been avoided yesterday through divine wisdom. This is why Solomon’s request for wisdom pleased God greatly.

A wise believer is difficult for the enemy to deceive. The prayer for divine purpose is another prayer Satan fears deeply. One of the enemy’s greatest goals is to keep people distracted from their God-given assignment.

He does not mind a believer being busy over something; the enemy doesn’t have problem if that busyness prevents their victims from fulfilling their purpose. But when a believer begins to pray, “Lord, reveal my purpose to me,” heaven begins to provide direction and clarity.

There is also a prayer that terrifies the enemy: “O Lord, let me love You more than anything else.” Satan understands that a believer who genuinely loves God cannot easily be bought, corrupted, intimidated, or discouraged. Our love for God produces obedience, and obedience releases divine favour and protection.

The enemy also fears prayers that bring revival. Throughout history, every genuine revival began with prayer and fasting. Before signs, wonders and miracles occurred, somebody cried out to heaven, somebody prayed to God. Satan fears revival because revival destroys his works and turns people back to God.

The prayer for holiness is another dangerous prayer against the kingdom of darkness. The devil wants believers to become comfortable with compromise. He wants people to tolerate sin and gradually drift away from God. But when someone prays, “Lord, purify my heart and make me holy,” God begins a work that weakens the enemy’s influence over the person.

Perhaps one of the most feared prayers in hell is this simple prayer: “Lord, let Your will be done.” This prayer sounds simple, but it carries tremendous power in the spirit. It means your personal ambition or request is surrendered to God’s purpose. It also means God’s plans become more important than man’s plans.

Jesus prayed this prayer in Gethsemane, and through that surrender, the plan of redemption was fulfilled. The devil fears believers who pray consistently rather than occasionally. A single prayer meeting may bring a breakthrough, but a lifestyle of prayer creates spiritual stability and results.

The enemy knows that a believer who prays daily will become spiritually stronger month after month and year after year. A believer who prays only when trouble comes is reacting to problems. But a believer who maintains a daily prayer life is building spiritual defenses before problems arise.

This is why Jesus taught His disciples to pray always and not faint. The devil fears the prayer that invites the Holy Spirit to take control. Once the Holy Spirit begins directing a person’s decisions, relationships, ministry, finances, and destiny, many traps of the enemy become ineffective.

Darkness loses influence over a person espcially when the Spirit of God takes control. That is why the devil fights prayer so hard. He fights your prayer time because he knows what can happen if you remain consistent over time. He knows that your prayer will bind and cast them out.

He knows that with your prayer, any kind of mountain in your life will be broken to pieces. Beloved, do not pray only when there is trouble. Build a life of prayer. Let your prayer altar be alive. When you pray consistently, you invite God into your battles. You may not see everything happening physically, but in the spirit, angels are working behind the scenes, chains are breaking, and enemies are losing their grip.

The enemy also fears prayers of deliverance offered on behalf of others. Satan prefers people to remain in bondage, ignorance, captivity, and spiritual oppression. He is comfortable when people see suffering but do nothing about it. However, when believers begin to pray for the freedom of others, the kingdom of darkness becomes disturbed.

The devil fears a mother who prays for her children. He fears a husband who prays for his family. He fears a pastor who intercedes for his congregation. He fears believers who stand in the gap for the oppressed, the sick, the discouraged, and the lost. Throughout the Bible, great men and women of God prayed for others and witnessed mighty deliverance.

Moses prayed for Israel. Samuel prayed for the nation. Daniel prayed for his people. Jesus Himself continually intercedes for believers. The enemy fears prayers that rescue souls from destruction. Every person delivered from addiction, depression, occult bondage, fear, sin, and spiritual captivity represents a loss to the kingdom of darkness.

This is why intercessors often face unusual opposition. The devil understands that one person’s deliverance can affect an entire family, community, or generation, or bring them out of bondage. The enemy fears prayers of unity among believers. One believer praying is powerful, but believers praying together create a greater spiritual force.

Jesus said that if two shall agree concerning anything they ask, it shall be done. The devil fears united prayer because it multiplies spiritual strength and security. The devil often tries to create division, offense, jealousy, and misunderstanding among believers to weaken their prayer power.

Beloved, never joke with your prayer. A prayerless Christian is vulnerable, but a praying Christian is dangerous to the kingdom of darkness. When you pray, you invite God into your matter.

When you pray, you hand over your battles to the One who has never lost any war. When you pray, angels are released, doors are opened, and the voice of the enemy is silenced. As you continue your Christian journey, do not allow anything to take away your prayer life. Guard your altar from time to time.

Protect your fellowship with God. Make prayer a daily habit and not an occasional activity. The more time you spend with God, the less power the enemy will have over your life. May your prayer altar receive fresh fire. May your spiritual life grow stronger. May your faith never fail.

May every power fighting your prayer life be defeated. And may your prayers continually provoke divine intervention, divine protection, and divine breakthroughs, in Jesus’ name. The believer who stays connected to God through prayer will always have heaven’s backing in the battles of life. Amen.

Prophetic Declaration

I decree that every attack against your prayer life shall fail. Your prayer altar shall receive fresh fire. Your spiritual ears shall hear God clearly. Your faith shall not fail. Every power assigned to attack your prayer life shall be scattered, in Jesus’ name.

Key Lessons for Today

  • The prayers that attract the most resistance are often the prayers that threaten the enemy the most.
  • Do not measure the effectiveness of your prayers by the level of opposition you face; measure them by God’s promises.
  • When spiritual attacks increase during prayer, it may be a sign that your prayers are confronting the root of the problem.
  • The devil fears believers who refuse to stop praying despite delays, distractions, and discouragement.
  • A believer whose prayer altar is burning becomes difficult for the enemy to manipulate or defeat.
  • The enemy fights prayer because he knows prayer invites God’s intervention into human situations.

Wisdom for Today

The prayer that changes you is often the prayer that changes your situation.

“The person who regularly sharpens his cutlass does not fear the thickness of the forest.”

Closing Reflection

The devil is not afraid of how loudly you pray; he is afraid of what your prayers are producing in your life. Pray prayers that draw you closer to God. Pray prayers that change your character. Pray prayers that align your life with God’s purpose. Those are the prayers that make darkness tremble.
