One Phone Call Is Enough! – EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: November 9, 2026
Beloved, have you ever received a phone call that changed your life in one moment?
A call that said, “You have been offered the job.” A call that said, “The test results are negative.” A call that said, “Your visa has been approved.” A call that said, “You have been selected.”
A call that said, “The contract is yours.” A call that said, “Congratulations, it’s a boy!” Before that call, you were worried, waiting and wondering.
After that call, everything changed, you gave thanks to God. One phone call sponsored by God was enough to make the different in anybody’s life.
Joseph was in a dungeon for over two years, forgotten by the butler he had helped. But one day, Genesis 41:14 says, “Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon.”
Notice that word: hastily. When your call comes, God can move you very fast.
One call from Pharaoh, and Joseph moved from prison to palace in a single day. He went to bed a prisoner and ended the day as the second most powerful man in Egypt.
Today, God wants you to understand two powerful truths. First, one call to God can change your situation, because He has promised, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee.”
Second, God can cause one call to come to you from the right person at the right time and lift you out of your dungeon forever. You don’t need a hundred connections. You don’t need a thousand contacts. You need one call from the right source. And today, that call is coming!
Beloved, one phone call can bring news that will change the direction of your life. It may be an invitation for an interview. It may be the approval you have been expecting for months. It may be a request for your services. It may be somebody calling to show you favour.
It may be a conversation that finally gives you the direction or solution you have been praying for. A situation that has troubled you for a long time can take a different turn the moment the right person reaches out.
Have you been waiting for a response? Perhaps you submitted an application, you did a job for an organisation and you keep checking your email every hour. Perhaps you sent a proposal and nobody has replied.
Perhaps you attended an interview and they said, “We will get back to you.” Perhaps you asked someone for help and you are waiting to hear from them. Perhaps you are even waiting for that special person to call you.
Beloved, commit the matter to God. “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37:5). But please, don’t put your whole life on hold while you wait for that call.
One closed door is not the end of the road. There are many other doors God can open, so don’t put down your tools because one has not opened yet.
While you are still waiting, go on your knees in prayer, keep sharpening yourself, keep working with your hands, keep sending out those applications and keep serving God with a willing heart.
When the answer finally comes, let it meet you focused at work, not sitting idle. And if someone you were counting on has suddenly gone silent over your matter, don’t let their silence stop your life. Don’t put your plans on hold.
Don’t stop growing. Don’t let them take your joy. Take the matter to God in prayer, leave it in His hands and follow where He leads. If that call is from God, nothing can stop it from reaching you.
And if it never comes, then God has prepared something better for you. Whichever way it goes, keep walking forward. God has raised his servant from nobody to somebody in life.
David was in the bush looking after sheep. When Samuel came to anoint a king from Jesse’s house, all of David’s brothers were presented, but God rejected each of them. Samuel asked, “Are here all thy children?”
And when Jesse mentioned the youngest, Samuel said in 1 Samuel 16:11, “Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.” One call brought David from the sheepfold to the anointing oil.
Mephibosheth was lame and living in Lodebar, a place whose name means “no pasture.” He thought his life was over. But one day, King David asked if there was anyone left of the house of Saul to whom he could show kindness.
2 Samuel 9:5 says, “Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.” One call brought him from Lodebar to the king’s table for the rest of his life.
Blind Bartimaeus was sitting by the roadside begging. When Jesus heard his cry, Mark 10:49 says, “And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called.
And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.” One call from Jesus, and immediately Bartimaeus received his sight.
Zacchaeus climbed a sycamore tree just to see Jesus. When Jesus got to that place, He looked up and said in Luke 19:5, “Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.” One call, and salvation came to his house.
Lazarus had been dead for four days. His body was already decaying. But Jesus stood at the grave and made one call in John 11:43: “Lazarus, come forth.” And the dead man came out.
Beloved, do you see the pattern? The call came to people who kept doing something. David kept playing. Ruth kept gleaning. Rebekah kept drawing water. Dorcas kept sewing. Cornelius kept praying and giving. Timothy kept serving.
Solomon said, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men” (Proverbs 22:29). Diligence gets noticed. Diligence gets the call.
He also said, “In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that” (Ecclesiastes 11:6). You don’t know which day’s work will bring the call. So keep sowing morning and evening.
So beloved, before that message comes, keep doing what you are doing. Before that email lands, keep doing your thing. Before that WhatsApp message pops up, stayed on the track of your destiny.
That call is closer than you think. Your breakthrough is coming. Your testimony is coming. Somebody is already talking about you in a room you have not entered. Somebody has already said, “That one is serious.” Don’t stop now, favour him.
Paul said, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
And again, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9). Notice: “if we faint not.” The harvest is for those who don’t quit.
But let me balance this. Don’t do it only because you want people to notice you. If you are doing it just to be seen, you will get tired when nobody claps. Do it as unto the Lord. “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward” (Colossians 3:23–24).
God is the One who sends the real call. People are only the messengers. When you work for God, it doesn’t matter whether man sees you today, but what matters is, God sees you, and He knows how to make man see you at the right time.
Beloved, some of you have been in the dungeon for a long time. You have been forgotten for years. People had promised to help you, but they never did. You have stopped expecting anything because you are used to empty promises from people.
But I want to tell you this morning: God knows how to make the palace call your name. Just like Esther name was called by the king for favour. When your time comes, it will not take years. It will happen hastily.
Listen to this: when Jesus arrived at Bethany, Lazarus had been dead for four days. Martha said, “Lord, by this time he stinketh.” Everybody had given up. The burial was done. The mourning had started.
Jesus stood at the tomb, prayed, and then “he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth” (John 11:43). And the Bible says, “And he that was dead came forth” (John 11:44).
Some people say that if Jesus had not mentioned Lazarus by name, every dead person in that graveyard would have come out. Whether or not that is so, one thing is clear: the voice of Jesus is so powerful that one call is enough to bring the dead back to life.
Beloved, what has died in your life? Your marriage? Your business? Your hope? Your joy? Your dream? Hear me: one call from Jesus is enough. When He calls your situation by name, it must come forth.
Beloved, some calls are coming to you to strengthen you, to confirm that what you are doing is not in vain. You don’t need a hundred calls. You don’t need random calls from people who just want to waste your time.
One right call is enough to bring transformation into your life. And beloved, not every important call is about money or a job. Some calls come to commend you. Somebody calls and says, “I just want to say thank you. What you did for me made a difference.”
Some calls come to encourage you when you are about to give up. Some calls come to support you: “Is there any way I can help what you are doing?” Some calls come to inspire you and remind you why you started.
Beloved, one call from the right person at the right time can change your destiny forever. Today, ask God to cause that call to come to you.
Out of the many things you do, there is usually one thing people know you for. People may not remember everything about you, but they will surely remember that one thing that you do.
For example, somebody may be known as a dream interpreter. They have helped people understand what God was saying to them in the night. And one day, the phone rings: “Pastor, I just want to say thank you.
You interpreted my dream correctly, and everything happened exactly as you explained. God used you to save my family.” And another person calls and says, “Is there any way I can support this ministry?”
When King Belshazzar saw a hand writing on the wall and nobody could read it, the queen came in and said, “There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods… Now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation” (Daniel 5:11–12).
Daniel had been faithful for years, and when the crisis came, somebody remembered: “That man can do it. Call him.”
When three kings were stranded in the wilderness without water and needed to hear from God, somebody said, “Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah” (2 Kings 3:11).
Elisha was known for his faithful service to Elijah, and that reputation brought the kings to his door.
When God wanted the tabernacle built, He said, “See, I have called by name Bezaleel… and I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship” (Exodus 31:2–3). He was known for his skill.
When Solomon was building the temple, “king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram out of Tyre… and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and cunning to work all works in brass” (1 Kings 7:13–14).
Solomon sent for him because he was known for his excellence in brass work. Joseph called Barnabas “the son of consolation” (Acts 4:36) because he was known for encouraging people.
Dorcas was known for making coats and garments for widows. Apollos was known as “an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures” (Acts 18:24).
Beloved, what are you known for? What is the one thing people say when your name comes up? Whatever it is, if it is good, keep doing it. Because one day, somebody will say, “Call that person.” And that call will change your life.
Beloved, there is something you are doing right now that matters more than you think. It may be your hard work. It may be your honesty when others are cutting corners.
It may be the way you treat people, the respect you show to the security man, the patience you show to difficult customers. It may be the excellence you put into that small job that pays you little.
It may be the way you serve in church without complaining, arranging chairs, cleaning the toilet, welcoming visitors, when nobody says thank you.
It may be your consistency on social media, sharing the Word of God every single day even when only five people like the post. It may be the kindness you show to strangers who can never pay you back.
You may think nobody is noticing. You may be telling yourself, “What is the point of being nice when nobody cares.” But beloved, people are watching. And some of them are already talking about you in places you have never entered.
Somewhere, in a meeting you were not invited to, someone is saying, “I know a young man who can do this job. He is faithful.” Somewhere, someone is saying, “Call that sister. She is very reliable and trusted.” Somewhere, someone is saying, “Send him a mail. Let him join us.”
Somewhere, someone is saying, “Give that contract to him. I have watched him work for two years.” Somewhere, someone is even saying, “That woman deserves to lead this association.”
That is how many breakthroughs happen within a second. Just one phone call will change your life this week. So beloved, keep doing the good work God has put in your hands. Keep teaching that Sunday school class.
Keep learning that skill, don’t be tired. Keep serving in that department, don’t be tired. Keep sending out those applications, don’t be tired. Keep making your products with excellence and keep improving what you do.
I want you to know that people are watching you. They are watching your determination: do you give up easily, or do you keep pushing? They are watching your consistency: are you doing it today and disappearing tomorrow, or are you there week after week?
They are watching your maturity: how do you handle criticism, delay and disappointment? And they are also watching your character: are you honest, are you humble, are you reliable?
Many people have only the talent, but the call goes to the person who has the talent and the character together. The world is full of gifted people who cannot be trusted. When somebody finds a gifted person who is also faithful, they hold on to that person.
Somebody may be blessed by your work and never tell you. They may read your posts more often and never comment. They may watch your humility and consistency and never say a word to encourage you.
But they are actually taking note. Somebody may already be thinking about you for an opportunity that you know nothing about.
Don’t let a quiet season deceive you into thinking that your work is useless and nobody is paying close watch to your life. The quietness is not the same as nobody is watching.
I have seen people receive calls like this: “Can you come for an interview tomorrow?” “We would like to work with you.”
“Someone recommended you to us.” “We saw what you did, and we want you on our team.” A phone call, an email, a WhatsApp message, and a new chapter begins.
But beloved, you cannot control when the call will come. You cannot force anybody to remember you. What you can do is to prepare yourself, so that when the call comes, you are ready for it.
When Pharaoh called Joseph, the Bible says, “he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh” (Genesis 41:14). He did not walk into the palace looking like a prisoner. He got himself ready.
And when Pharaoh asked him to interpret the dream, Joseph had an answer, because he had kept walking with God even in prison. He said, “It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace” (Genesis 41:16).
The invitation opened the door, but it was his walk with God that gave him something to say when he stood there.
Beloved, one of the things that draws people to a product is the product itself. You can advertise all you want, but if the product is not good, people will try it once and never come back. But if the product is good, people will come back, and they will bring others.
The same thing is true of your life and your work. “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men” (Proverbs 18:16). “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men” (Proverbs 22:29).
Jesus said, “Ye shall know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16). If you are doing something good, and people are already commending you, that is a sign. It means your product is speaking. Don’t give up. If one person is calling to say thank you, more calls are coming.
If people are already encouraged by what you do, a day will come when a call will come that will take you to the next level.
Have you ever missed an important call? You were in the bathroom, or your phone was on silent, or your battery was dead, and when you checked, there were missed calls from the number you had been waiting for. And when you called back, it was too late.
If you never back the person or the person never call you back, its possible the person is not for you. If the person was sent to help you and he missed your call, he will return it back. You don’t have to stress yourself calling people who doesn’t have you in mind.
Beloved, many people are missing God’s calls. God is calling them to salvation, but they are too busy. God is calling them to prayer, but their spiritual phone is on silent.
God is calling them to an assignment, but they are not picking up. Sometimes we miss God’s call because of bad network or sin.
The Bible says, “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2). Sin is like a bad network. It blocks the line. Repent, and let the network be restored.
Beloved, many people who are great today will tell you that their lives have changed through one phone call, one email, one introduction or one recommendation. Somebody called to invite them to speak in an event and since then their life has changed.
Somebody called to offer them a position. Somebody called to fund their project. Somebody called to connect them with a person of influence. Before that call, they were faithful in a small place. After that call, their lives were never the same.
Joseph was in prison in the morning and in the palace by evening. David was with sheep when Samuel sent for him. Mephibosheth was in Lodebar when David sent for him. Esther was one young woman among many until the king called her name.
If you are known for something good, be assured that the call, the email or the message will come.
But hear me well: there is something you must keep doing that will get you noticed tomorrow. That is where your phone call is coming from. That is where your breakthrough will come from.
If you stop doing that thing, that call may never come. If Joseph had stopped interpreting dreams, the butler would have had nothing to remember.
If Daniel had stopped being faithful, the queen would have had no name to mention. If Elisha had stopped serving Elijah, nobody would have known to call him.
So I say to you:
- If you are known for prayer, keep praying.
- If you are known for teaching, keep teaching.
- If you are known for interpreting dreams, keep interpreting.
- If you are known for excellence in your work, keep being excellent.
- If you are known for kindness, keep being kind.
“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” (Habakkuk 2:3).
The call is coming. It may tarry, but it will surely come. Be rest assured: the phone will ring, the email will arrive, the message will drop, and your life will never be the same again.
Some of you are tired. You have been doing that thing for years, and you feel nothing is happening. But beloved, if people are already commending you, don’t stop now.
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9). Keep doing it. Keep doing it well. The call is coming soon.
Now let me give you a word of wisdom. When the commendations start coming, stay humble. The Bible says, “As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise” (Proverbs 27:21).
Praise is a test, just like fire tests gold. Some people handle criticism well but cannot handle praise. They become proud, and the same gift that brought them up begins to bring them down.
Give God the glory for every commendation, and keep your head low. Also remember that your gift alone is not enough.
Jesus warned that some people will say, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?” and He will say, “I never knew you” (Matthew 7:22–23). Don’t let what you are known for become more important than knowing God. Your character must be bigger than your gift.
And don’t do it just to get the call. Do it because God gave it to you, and do it as unto the Lord. If the call comes, praise God. If it delays, keep serving. Your reward is from Him.
Beloved, God knows how to disturb the sleep of kings for your sake. God knows how to make a forgotten record speak again. What you did faithfully in the past is written down, and heaven has not forgotten.
“For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name” (Hebrews 6:10).
Sometimes the call has been released, but something is standing in the way. In the spirit, there are powers that intercept blessings, block connections and delay answers.
Daniel prayed, and the angel told him: “From the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days” (Daniel 10:12-13).
The answer was released on the first day, but it was withstood for twenty-one days. That was a spiritual network failure. Daniel did not see it and did not give up. He kept praying until the answer broke through.
Some of you have helpers who have been trying to reach you. Some people have your name in their mind, but they keep forgetting. Some emails have been sent but buried.
Some recommendations have been made but suppressed by enemies. This is not ordinary. You must rise in prayer and command every spiritual blockage to break and give way for your favour.
The Bible declares: “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another” (Psalm 75:6-7).
When God decides to lift you, no prince of Persia can stop it permanently. But you must pray, and you must keep doing what God has called you to do.
Beloved, you must also be careful how you treat people, because you never know who will one day carry your call. The butler who remembered Joseph was a prisoner like him.
If Joseph had insulted him, ignored him or mistreated him in that prison, do you think the butler would have mentioned his name before Pharaoh? Joseph’s kindness to a fellow prisoner became the bridge to the palace.
Some people burn their lines carelessly. They quarrel with everybody. They leave every job angry. They insult their former bosses on social media. They disrespect people who appear small or don’t dress smartly.
And then, when an opportunity comes and someone asks the person you had issues with, “Do you know this person? Can we call him?”, the answer is, “Please don’t help him. He doesn’t deserve it. Trash his documents immediately”
“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches” (Proverbs 22:1). Protect your name and treat people with honour. Keep your relationships clean and humble. The person you help today may be the voice that speaks for you tomorrow.
Beloved, your call may be delayed, but it is not denied. God may be preparing a bigger stage than the one you asked for. Keep doing what you are doing.
When the call finally comes, don’t rush into it without God. When the Gibeonites came to Joshua pretending to be from a far country, Joshua and the leaders made a covenant with them because “the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD” (Joshua 9:14).
Not every call that looks like a blessing is from God, some are a trap. Beloved, when your true call comes and your life changes, remember the people who are still in the prison.
The butler was restored to his position, and he forgot Joseph for two years. Don’t be like that. When God lifts you, remember those who helped you, those who encouraged you and those who are still waiting. Make a call through someone now.
When Andrew met Jesus, the first thing he did was to find his brother Simon and say, “We have found the Messias,” and he brought him to Jesus (John 1:41–42). When Philip met Jesus, he went and found Nathanael and said, “Come and see” (John 1:45–46). They passed the call on.
Joseph did not forget his family. When the famine came, he brought his father and brothers to Egypt and gave them the best of the land. His one call from Pharaoh became the call that saved his whole family.
And finally, beloved, let me remind you that the greatest call any person can ever receive is the call of God.
Before any human being calls you for a job, a contract or an opportunity, God is calling you to Himself. Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He is calling you to salvation, to fellowship and to purpose.
When Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord asking, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”, he answered, “Here am I; send me” (Isaiah 6:8). That call changed his life forever.
If you have never answered God’s call to salvation, don’t let today pass. One call from God is enough to change your eternity. And if you have already answered, keep listening, because God is still calling you to new assignments, new levels and new seasons.
CONCLUSION
Beloved, one phone call is enough. One call from Pharaoh brought Joseph out of the dungeon. One call from Samuel brought David from the field to the anointing.
One call from David brought Mephibosheth from Lodebar to the king’s table. One call from Jesus brought Bartimaeus to his sight and Lazarus out of the grave.
God is still calling people. He is calling you to salvation, to destiny, to the field and to restoration. Keep your spiritual phone on so that when the call comes, you will answer to connect. Answer when He calls, and say, “Speak, Lord, for Thy servant heareth.”
And you can call Him too. His line is never busy. Call on Him in the day of trouble, from the belly of the fish or from the middle of the storm. Make sure you are calling the right number, not strange powers or wrong altars. Deal with every sin that blocks your spiritual network.
Make the calls you need to make: to reconcile, to encourage, to recommend and to share the Gospel. Be faithful while you wait. Be prepared for when the call comes. And be wise; test every call before you respond.
When God calls your name, one call is enough to connect to the good things of life.
DAILY REFLECTION – ASK YOURSELF
- Is God calling me to something right now that I have been ignoring?
- Is my spiritual phone on, or is sin blocking my network with God?
- When trouble comes, who do I call first?
- Is there anything blocking my line to heaven right now?
- Am I preparing myself for the call I am praying for, as Joseph did?
- Who needs to receive a call from me this week?
WISDOM FOR TODAY
Don’t wait for the phone to ring before you prepare. Joseph was ready when Pharaoh called because he had been faithful in the dungeon. Be faithful where you are, and you will be ready when your call comes.
PERSONAL CHALLENGE
Beloved, today I challenge you to do two things. First, spend time calling on God. Find a quiet place, switch off distractions and talk to Him honestly about what you need. Ask Him to show you great and mighty things you do not know.
Second, make at least one phone call today that could change somebody’s life today. Call someone you need to apologise to. Call someone who is going through a hard time at the moment. Call someone you can recommend for an opportunity. Call someone who has not heard the Gospel. One call from you may be the answer to their prayer.
EVANGELISM CHALLENGE
Many people around you have never heard that God is calling them. Today, be like the people who told Bartimaeus, “Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.” Call someone, visit someone or send a message to someone, and tell them that Jesus is calling them by name. Share Romans 10:13 with them: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Invite them to call on Jesus today.

AFRICAN PROVERB
“The one who asks the way does not get lost.”
Meaning: A traveller who is humble enough to ask for directions will reach his destination, while the one who is too proud to ask may wander for a long time. In the same way, those who call upon God and ask Him for help will not be lost in life’s journey. Many people are wandering because they refuse to call. Don’t be too proud, too busy or too discouraged to call on God. Ask, and He will show you the way.
CLOSING REFLECTION
Beloved, you don’t need many calls. You need the right one. One call to God in sincerity can bring salvation, deliverance, healing and direction. One call from the right person at God’s appointed time can bring you from the dungeon to the palace, from the sheepfold to the throne, from Lodebar to the King’s table.
Clear your line today. Call on God in faith. Prepare yourself for your moment. Answer when He calls you. And pick up your phone to make that one call someone else needs.
Joseph slept in a dungeon and woke up to a call that changed his life forever. Your call is coming. Stay ready.
Stay blessed, stay connected, and keep calling.
