EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: September 12, 2026 – Rise Above Your Limitations

Beloved, a limitation is anything that restricts your ability, your movement, your progress, or your achievement.

It is anything that stands up and attempts to define how far you can go, what you can accomplish, or what you are permitted to become in life.

Do you know that every human being carries limitations? Some are physical, some are financial, some are educational, some are emotional, some come from environment, some from family background, and some are simply the fruit of past mistakes.

Others are manufactured through fear, wrong thinking, lack of opportunity, or a painful experience that refused to let go.

But hear me well: the presence of a limitation does not mean your destiny must remain limited. When God gets involved in a matter, every barrier bows and breaks to pieces.

There are people who have already concluded, in their own hearts, what they can never become, simply because of where they started.

Somebody is saying, “Nobody in my family has ever done it.” Another is saying, “I don’t have enough money to start this.”

Somebody else says, “I am too old.” Another says, “I am too young.” “I don’t know important people.” “I have made too many mistakes.”

“My education is not enough.” “I have been rejected too many times.” “I have tried before and I failed.” Beloved, these are not facts from heaven; these are conclusions from a discouraged heart, and a discouraged heart will always find a reason to stay where it is.

Many people have allowed their present condition to become their permanent definition. Because they have no money today, they conclude they can never be financially stable.

Because they did not receive much education when they were young, they believe they can no longer learn or improve themselves.

Because one relationship failed, they conclude that nobody will ever love them again. Because one business collapsed, they conclude they were never cut out for business, instead of finding out what actually went wrong and doing it differently the next time.

Because they have faced several rejections, they now reject every new opportunity before it even reaches them, rejecting themselves before anybody else has the chance to.

And because nobody in their family has ever broken a certain ceiling, they assume they were never destined to be the one to break the limitation.

Beloved, I want you to hear this clearly: your present condition is only a chapter in your story; it is not the conclusion. A painful relationship can become the very classroom where you learned wisdom.

An unsuccessful attempt can be the very preparation that positions you to succeed the next time, if only you are willing to learn from it instead of being buried by it.

So do not allow what is happening in your life today to convince you that nothing good can happen tomorrow. God is not finished with you yet, and what looks like your final chapter may only be the introduction to your greatest testimony.

Never allow what is happening in your life today to convince you that nothing better can happen tomorrow.

Some of these statements you have been saying about yourself may describe your genuine challenges, but a challenge should never be allowed to become a prophecy over your future.

Your present condition may explain where you are, but it does not have the authority to decide where God can take you.

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon in Judges 6, Gideon was hiding from the Midianites in a winepress. Israel had suffered greatly under oppression, and Gideon had come to see himself as powerless.

Yet the angel addressed him, not by what he looked like, but by what he could become: “Thou mighty man of valour.” Gideon immediately began to explain his limitations, his family, his financial condition, his position, his personal inadequacy.

In other words, Gideon was saying, “I do not have the background, the influence, or the ability required for this assignment.” But God did not sit down to debate Gideon’s family history.

He simply gave him one promise that changed everything: “Surely I will be with thee.” Gideon was busy looking at what he lacked; God was looking at what His own presence could accomplish through him. Beloved, when God is with you, your weakness does not get the final say.

This is one of the dangers of limitation: it becomes so loud, so visible, that a man stops seeing possibility altogether. Gideon saw only his background; God saw the deliverer already hidden inside that background. That is the difference between how you see yourself and how God sees you.

Beloved, there are times you must stop introducing yourself by your limitations. You may have come from a poor family, but poverty does not have to become your identity. You may have made serious mistakes in the past, but your mistakes do not have to become the final chapter of your book.

You may have started late in life, but starting late does not mean you cannot finish well. You may not have received the opportunities that others received, but you can still make responsible use of the opportunities sitting in front of you right now. Your background can influence you, but it was never given the final authority to imprison you.

There are people who have spent years explaining, and defending, why they cannot move forward. “I am not fortunate in life.” “The family I came from is affecting my destiny.” “I did not attend the best school.”

“My own name itself is working against me.” “People from my family don’t succeed.” “I was treated badly, and that treatment has followed me.” Beloved, some of these statements may be completely true.

Life is not equally fair to everybody, and we must never pretend that all men begin from the same starting line. Some people genuinely carry heavier loads than others. But there is a difference between acknowledging a disadvantage and surrendering your entire future to it.

You cannot change who your parents were. You cannot go back and rewrite your childhood. You cannot force the people who refused to help you ten years ago to suddenly become kind to you today.

But you can still ask one honest question before God: “What can I do with what I have, right now, from here?”

Joseph did not choose to be sold into slavery by his own brothers. He did not choose to be falsely accused by his master’s wife. He did not choose the prison cell that he will be thrown to. These were real limitations, real injustices, imposed on him by other people’s hands.

Yet Genesis 39 keeps repeating one phrase like a drumbeat: the Lord was with Joseph. His hard circumstances did not stop God’s purpose for his life. In slavery, and later in prison, Joseph remained faithful, responsible, and useful with whatever little was placed in his hand.

He developed his gift quietly in the dark, and he refused to let his present condition rewrite his character. And in the fullness of time, the very prison that looked like his grave became the platform that carried him into the palace of greatness and honour.

Beloved, the prison was part of Joseph’s journey, but it was never his final destination. Whatever your prison looks like today, however real your limitation may be, with God’s help, His wisdom, and your own faithfulness and perseverance, it does not have the final word over your life.

Somebody reading this today is only in a chapter, not a conclusion. Hold on, for the God of Joseph is still the God of today.

Beloved, some limitations are real, but having a limitation does not mean that limitation is permanent. Some limitations can be changed outright; others must simply be wisely managed. Some require prayer. Some require training, knowledge, or a complete change of perception.

Some require patience and discipline. Some require courage and boldness. Some require money and the right connections. Some require healing, or a change of environment altogether.

And some simply require acceptance and adaptation. The important thing, beloved, is to correctly identify the kind of limitation staring at you, and take the right steps to either overcome it or manage it wisely.

One of the greatest limitations any man will ever fight is not outside him at all; it is the limitation of the mind.

Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” When a man keeps telling himself, “I cannot do it,” he will eventually stop attempting things he was fully capable of doing all along.

Fear gradually creeps in and begins to colour every idea, every decision, every step he takes. Maybe you applied for something once and were rejected, and now you have convinced yourself you will always be rejected.

Perhaps one business failed, and you concluded you were simply not cut out for business. Maybe one relationship ended badly, and you decided nobody will ever love you again.

Perhaps you failed an examination once, and from that day you started calling yourself unintelligent and unfit for school.

Beloved, one single event was never given the authority to define your entire capacity. Failure can reveal a limitation, but failure can also reveal exactly where growth is needed in your life, if you are humble enough to look at it.

Ask yourself: why did I fail? Was it lack of preparation? Was the timing wrong? Did I lack knowledge? Did I choose the wrong strategy? Was I too careless? Was the opportunity simply not meant for me? Did I ignore good advice that was staring me in the face?

Was the situation genuinely beyond my control? And most importantly, what can I learn before I try again? Beloved, do not waste your failures. If something did not work out, collect the lesson before you walk away from the experience empty handed.

Moses also stood face to face with his own limitation the day God called him. Exodus 4:10 records him saying, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent… but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” Moses was looking at his stammering tongue; God was looking at the assignment He had already placed in his hand.

Notice that God did not deny the fact that Moses genuinely struggled with speech. Instead, God promised to be with him on the journey, and He also sent Aaron to stand beside him as his mouthpiece.

Beloved, this teaches us something powerful: sometimes God overcomes your limitation, not by removing it completely, but by sending somebody who is strong enough in the areas of your weakness.

You do not have to know everything. You do not have to be good at everything. You were never called to carry every assignment alone.

And beloved, small beginnings are nothing to be ashamed of. Many great things in this life began in small places, with limited resources, little recognition, and imperfect conditions. You may have a small business today; learn how to run it properly, and never be too proud to ask questions.

You may only have a few customers; serve those few with excellence. You may have a small audience; give them your very best quality all the same. You may have started your education later than your mates; study seriously anyway.

You may only be able to save a little every month; start with that little. You may know only the basics of a skill; do not be discouraged, keep learning, keep sharpening it. But do not refuse to start small simply because you cannot start big.

Some people remain trapped in limitation for years, simply because they are waiting for perfect conditions that will never come. They want all the money before they start the business. They want big connections before they take the first step.

They want somebody to encourage them before they move an inch. They want a guarantee that nothing will ever go wrong. Beloved, perfect conditions rarely arrive on this earth. Ecclesiastes 11:4 says, “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.”

At some point, a man must begin with what is available in his hand, while he continues to grow and improve along the way.

A wise leader knows both his strengths and his weaknesses, and he is not too proud to admit either. If administration is not your strength, partner with somebody more organised than you. If you are gifted creatively but weak financially, get yourself responsible accounting support.

If you understand ministry but have no idea on technology, sit down and learn from somebody who understands it better. If you are struggling academically, find yourself a teacher or a tutor that can put you through.

If your marriage is facing a problem you cannot resolve alone, wise pastoral or professional counselling can help you carry that load.

Pride is the one thing that makes every limitation stronger than it needs to be, because pride refuses help, and pride refuses correction. But the humble man who asks for help today will always outrun the proud man who refused it.

Beloved, there are people praying for God to remove a limitation He has already given them the people, the information, the tools, or the opportunity to manage themselves. They keep saying, “God will do it,” while refusing to learn anything new. But hear me, divine help can come through ordinary means.

Jethro helped Moses see that his own leadership structure was unsustainable. Exodus 18 shows Moses was sitting alone, judging the people’s cases from morning until evening, wearing himself out. Jethro told him plainly, “The thing that thou doest is not good.”

Moses did not need more anointing to handle this; he needed a better system. Beloved, sometimes your limitation is not a lack of anointing at all; you simply need is a better system. You may be working hard but working without effective organisation.

You may be earning money but keeping no records. You may be praying for growth but following up with nobody. You may be asking God for academic success while studying without a timetable.

You may be praying for a better marriage while repeatedly refuses to amend your ways. Prayer is powerful, but prayer must never become an excuse for avoiding responsibility.

If your parents could not give you certain opportunities, do not hate them for what they genuinely did not have. Learn something, develop yourself, work responsibly, seek opportunity, and build differently, so that your own children can inherit wisdom you had to discover for yourself.

Your age can also become a mental limitation. Young people sometimes believe nobody will take them seriously; older people sometimes believe every opportunity has already passed them by. But Scripture speaks to every season.

Paul told young Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:12, “Let no man despise thy youth.” Yet Caleb, at eighty five years old, stood up and said, “Give me this mountain” (Joshua 14:12). Age matters in practical ways, but it must never become an automatic excuse for refusing to learn, serve, or grow in whatever season you find yourself.

Perhaps your limitation is lack of education. Education is valuable, and where the opportunity exists to obtain it, do not despise it.

But the absence of a certificate should not stop your development. There are books, courses, mentors, and apprenticeships available to you; go and get the knowledge you need.

At the same time, do not despise formal training by folding your arms and saying, “God will teach me everything when I pray.” God gives wisdom, yes, but humility is what allows a man to learn from those who have studied a matter carefully before him.

Rising above limitation requires faith, but genuine faith always leads to action. The woman with the issue of blood had suffered for twelve years. She had spent everything she had with her seeking help, yet her condition only grew worse.

Her sickness had limited her physically, financially, and socially, yet she refused to let that condition silence her expectation. She said within herself, “If I may but touch His garment, I shall be whole.”

She pressed through the crowd and touched Him by faith, and her breakthrough came the moment her inward conviction produced an outward movement.

Beloved, prayer should give you the courage to take the next responsible step. After you pray for a job, prepare your documents and submit them. After you pray for business growth, improve your product and your service.

After you pray for your health, follow wise medical counsel and build healthier habits. Faith prepares you, faith moves, and faith perseveres.

You must also rise above the limitation of your own past. Paul had once persecuted the church and caused great suffering among believers. Had he allowed guilt to define him permanently, he would never have fulfilled his apostolic calling.

Instead, through Christ, he received mercy and pressed forward, later wrote this in Philippians 3:13 to 14, “Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark.”

Your past was given to you to teach you wisdom, not to become a prison that holds you back. If some of today’s limitations came from decisions you made yesterday, then repent where you have sinned, apologise where you have hurt someone in the past, and correct whatever can still be corrected.

Rising above your limitation does not mean denying your mistakes; it means refusing to remain permanently chained to them. Peter denied Jesus three times, yet that failure did not become the end of his calling;

Jesus restored him, and Peter went on to become mightily useful in the work of God. Take the lesson, change the behaviour that caused the failure, and move forward in wisdom. You cannot rewrite your past, but by the grace of God, you can refuse to repeat it.

Another limitation you must rise above is the opinion of people. When blind Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was passing by, he cried out for mercy, but the crowd told him to hold his peace. He cried out even louder still.

The very people who could see with their natural eyes were trying to silence the man who desperately needed to see. Bartimaeus refused to let their opinion stand between him and his encounter with Jesus.

Some people will always try to limit you according to the version of you they knew years ago. They may remember your mistakes, your weakness, your humble beginning, and when you begin to rise, they question your ability or mock your effort.

Respect wise counsel always, but never let mockery silence a vision God Himself gave you. You may be doing genuinely well until you look sideways at someone who appears to be doing better, and suddenly your own progress feels small and insignificant.

2 Corinthians 10:12 warns us against measuring ourselves by ourselves in that way. Your assignment was never identical to anyone else’s. David could not fight Goliath wearing Saul’s armour, because what worked for Saul was never fitted for David.

Someone may build in two years what takes you seven years for example. Someone may marry at 25 years while another marries at 40.

Someone may reach financial stability early while another reaches it later, and someone may grasp a skill quickly while another needs more repetition.

None of these differences mean God has abandoned anyone. But comparison, left unchecked, will push you into decisions you are not ready for. It will make you borrow money you do not have just to maintain an appearance.

It will push you into a relationship simply because everyone around you is getting married. It will make you abandon a good path only because someone else’s path looked faster.

Beloved, you do not rise above limitation by becoming somebody else. You rise by becoming a wiser, stronger, more disciplined version of the person God already created you to be.

At other times, you may need to leave an environment that has continually suppressed your growth. Abraham had to leave his country and his father’s house before he could enter the land God had promised him.

Some environments only ever strengthen fear, compromise, and mediocrity in a man’s life. Ask God for discernment and courage before you relocate, for relocation should never be reckless, yet remaining permanently in a place where your purpose is being slowly destroyed is not always faithfulness either.

Your circle of relationships matters just as much as your environment. The people closest to you will either strengthen your faith or feed your limitation.

Friends who mock your vision, encourage your sin, or celebrate your laziness will weaken you over time, so choose relationships that challenge you to grow spiritually, mentally, and responsibly, for Proverbs 13:20 says, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise.”

Discipline is another key that must not be ignored. Some barriers blamed entirely on spiritual opposition are, in truth, strengthened by our own inconsistency. A man who refuses to manage his time, control his spending, or complete what he starts will keep meeting the same avoidable trouble again and again.

Prayer is powerful, but prayer must also produce discipline. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal exactly which habits are quietly reducing your effectiveness and impact.

There will also be limitations that God does not remove immediately. Paul prayed three times concerning the thorn in his flesh, yet God answered him, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Paul discovered that divine strength can operate right through human weakness. Sometimes victory means the obstacle has disappeared completely; at other times, victory means receiving the grace to remain fruitful.

A physical condition, a family responsibility, or a difficult season may change how you carry out your assignment, but it should not automatically cancel the assignment itself. Seek help where help is needed, make wise adjustments, and keep trusting God.

Never measure divine usefulness only by outward perfection, for God has used people with scars, with weaknesses, and with difficult histories to accomplish remarkable things.

Jabez himself was born in sorrow, and his very name kept reminding him of pain, yet he refused to accept sorrow as the permanent boundary of his life.

He prayed in 1 Chronicles 4:10, “Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast,” and God granted his request. What began in pain ended in enlargement, simply because Jabez took his limitation before God instead of nursing it in silence.

Beloved, carry every limitation to the Lord in prayer, but be ready to obey whatever instruction follows. God may tell you to forgive somebody, to study, to relocate, to begin again, to ask for help, to develop a skill, or to drop a harmful habit.

Apparently, the answer to your prayer arrives as an opportunity that still requires courage and effort from you. So examine your life honestly today. Which limitation have you quietly accepted as permanent?

What negative word have you kept or allowed speaking over your own life? What action have you postponed simply because you are afraid to fail?

Identify it, place it before God, and take the next responsible step, for great journeys always begin with one single act of obedience.

Never despise your small beginnings; David’s public victory over Goliath was preceded by private victories over a lion and a bear that nobody saw. The discipline you build in hidden places today may be the very preparation for the opportunity the whole world will one day see.

Beloved, your background may have affected your beginning, but it does not have the authority to cancel your future. Your weakness may be visible, but God’s grace is greater than where you are coming from.

Your resources may look insufficient, but the same God who multiplied five loaves and two fish is still able to multiply whatever you surrender into His hands. Your path may look difficult, but the Lord can make a way where no way seems to exist.

Isaiah 40:31 promises that those who wait upon the Lord “shall mount up with wings as eagles.” An eagle rises above the conditions that keep other creatures grounded, and in the same way, God can give you the strength, the wisdom, and the grace to rise above whatever has restricted you until today.

So do not make peace with every limitation life has handed you. Do not let fear write your future for you. Do not let your background become a permanent excuse.

Pray against what must be confronted spiritually, correct what must be corrected personally, learn what you still need to learn, and begin using what God has already placed in your own two hands. You may have limitations, beloved, but your limitations do not have to have you.

Rise again. Learn again. Try again, with greater wisdom this time. By the grace of God, rise above your limitations.

 

 

Prophetic Declaration:

Every limitation resisting your progress shall give way to the power of God. The Lord will strengthen your weaknesses, enlarge your capacity and lead you beyond every boundary the enemy has placed around your life. You shall rise, advance and fulfil your divine purpose, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

 

Personal Challenge

Take some quiet time today and identify one limitation that has been controlling your life for too long.

It may be fear, lack of confidence, bad association, financial difficulty, poor upbringing, inadequate knowledge, procrastination, a painful past experience, lack of education, repeated failure, or poor planning.

Carefully, write it down, pray about it, and then ask yourself honestly: “What part of this situation can I begin to change going forward?”

Take one practical step toward rising above it. If knowledge is your limitation, begin learning from today. If fear is stopping you, take one courageous step forward. If lack of skill is holding you back, find a way to develop that skill.

If procrastination is the problem, start the task you have been postponing. If a previous failure is still haunting you, study what went wrong and prepare differently this time. If you need professional help, counselling, or wise advice, go and seek it.

If your own mouth has been part of the problem, learn to think deeply before you speak. Your challenge today is simple: stop using your limitation as a permanent excuse. You may not be able to change everything at once today, but you can begin by changing something.

Ask God to show you what is already in your hand, and how you can begin using it more effectively. Remember, your limitation may explain where you are today, but it does not have to determine where you will end.

 

Evangelism Challenge

Today, reach out to someone who feels limited by failure, background, lack of money, age, rejection, fear, or past mistakes. Encourage the person with the Word of God and remind them that their present condition does not have to determine their future.

Share Philippians 4:13 with them and point them to Jesus Christ as the source of strength, hope, and salvation.

If the person has not accepted Christ, use the opportunity to explain the gospel and invite them to surrender their life to Jesus. Pray with them and encourage them to take one responsible step toward becoming who God has called them to be.

4. Lord, thank You because Your grace is sufficient for me in every area of weakness, in the name of Jesus.

5. Father, thank You because yesterday’s limitations do not have to become tomorrow’s conclusions in my life, in the name of Jesus.

6. Lord, renew my strength this morning and give me grace to rise again, in the name of Jesus.

7. Father, let every limitation that has discouraged me lose its power over my mind, in the name of Jesus.

8. Lord, deliver me from accepting defeat before I have even tried, in the name of Jesus.

19. Father, help me see myself through the possibilities of Your grace, in the name of Jesus.

21. Father, if fear has become my limitation, give me courage to confront it, in the name of Jesus.

22. Lord, if ignorance has become my limitation, give me hunger for knowledge, in the name of Jesus.
