EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: June 24, 2026 – The Danger of Staying Where God Has Left

The power of location can either make or mar a person’s destiny. Almost everything we do in life is connected to a location. To build a house, you need a location. To establish a business, you need a location. To conduct a meeting, you need a location. To hold a wedding, you need a location. To attend school, work, travel, or run a ministry, location is required. Even to fulfill purpose, you need a location.

Many people underestimate the importance of location. They think success is only about hard work, education, connections, or talent. True success is connected to the right location where God wants you to be. Your location determines how far you will go in life. A seed that is planted in the wrong soil may never reach its full potential, no matter how healthy it is.

Likewise, a person can carry a great destiny and still struggle for the rest of their life if they remain in the wrong location. In the Bible, many people fulfilled their destiny simply by being in the right place. God told Abram to leave his father’s house and go to a land that He would show him. Abram obeyed and enjoyed the generational blessings awaiting him in the right location.

The truth is, if Abraham had remained where he was, he would have missed a major part of God’s plan for his life. In Genesis 26:1-6, a severe famine struck the land, and Isaac was preparing to seek refuge in Egypt. But God intervened and instructed him not to go there. Instead, the Lord directed him to remain in Gerar.

Though the circumstances appeared unfavorable, Isaac obeyed God’s voice, and that location became the place of his prosperity, protection, and divine visitation. God warned him not to travel to Egypt but to remain in Gerar, the exact location where He had programmed blessings for him.

Many people have received warnings from God not to travel, relocate, enter certain places, or pursue their goals in a specific area, yet they ignored those warnings and later faced painful consequences. God often sees dangers that we cannot see. When God says leave, you have to leave. The issue is not about the physical space itself; the issue is whether His presence is still there.

The problem is refusing to leave when God has finished His purpose in a place. Sometimes the place where God blessed you yesterday is not the place where He wants you tomorrow. God is everywhere, and He meets us at the point of our need, but there are certain breakthroughs He has prepared for us somewhere else.

Maybe the reason is to protect you from danger. Maybe your present location can no longer contain the upcoming blessing. Have you ever heard stories of people who encountered favor the exact moment they left their house and went somewhere new? The danger of staying where God has left is that you may continue to expect results from a place where God is no longer working.

Many people are frustrated today because they are trying to force life out of a situation that God is already finished with. They are praying for God to bless what He has already told them to leave. They are asking God to revive what He has already closed. They are trying to remain in a place where good things have stopped coming.

When God leaves a place, His grace for that assignment also departs. When God leaves a place, His presence stops working for you there. When God leaves a place, security and protection vanish. When God’s presence departs from a life, prayers take longer to be answered. The danger of staying where God has left is that you will begin to experience unnecessary battles.

If God is telling you to leave a place, relationship, habit, or association, delaying obedience can expose you to troubles that could have been avoided. If God is telling you to relocate, your continued stay in that place will be full of challenges. When you stay in a place God warned you to leave, there will be a loss of opportunities, affliction, backwardness, sickness, and failure.

Most importantly, staying where God has left is spiritually perilous. If you continue to stay there, you are wasting away your destiny. The time you are supposed to use to achieve something meaningful in a new location, you are burning on something that is not working out. When you refuse to move with God, you are risking your life and destiny.

There are some relationships, friendships, environments, and habits that God has departed from. The tragedy is that many people remain there simply because they are afraid of starting afresh. There are people today whose lives have become spiritually dry because they are staying where God has left.

They are still depending on yesterday’s anointing. They are still depending on old revelations and old encounters. Meanwhile, God is calling them to a deeper level. When God leaves a place, that place may still look physically attractive, but spiritually, something has shifted. The place may still bring a little blessing at first, but after some time, there will be a total drought.

You must never become so comfortable in a place that you cannot hear God’s instruction to leave it. You must never become so comfortable in a environment where you are no longer growing physically and spiritually, or where your prayer life has died. When you refuse to move when God asks you to move, you may discover the devil begins to move things out of your life.

Beloved, whenever God says move, do not argue, please move. Whenever God says leave, do not delay, please leave. Whenever God says your assignment here is completed, thank Him and move forward to a new location. Remember, God’s best is never behind you; it is always ahead of you. The future belongs to those who are willing to follow God’s direction, no matter how unfamiliar the path may seem.

There are people whom God instructed to move to a particular location, and when they arrived, they prospered. They found the favor of God, built relationships, established businesses, developed ministries, got married, bought cars, and fulfilled important assignments. Everything worked well for them because they were exactly where God wanted them to be. The grace of God was upon them, and the location became a blessing to their lives.

However, a time came when God’s purpose for that location was fulfilled. God’s assignment for those people was completed; the contract God had with them in that location had ended. God began to speak to them about moving forward or relocating, but they refused.

Why? Because they had become comfortable in that location and could not imagine leaving anytime soon. They became emotionally attached to the place. They loved the familiarity, the people, the achievements, and the memories. The problem is that many people do not realize that God’s will for our lives operates in seasons.

The fact that God told you to stay in your present location years ago does not mean He wants you to remain there forever. Sometimes the place God used to bless you can become the place that limits you if you refuse to move when He says move. What made the location special then was not the location itself; it was God’s presence and purpose at that specific time.

Once God’s assignment for that season has ended, He may begin to direct you somewhere else. Unfortunately, many people continue to try and enjoy yesterday’s grace while ignoring today’s instruction to leave. This is why some people notice an unusual dryness in places where they used to flourish. The progress stops suddenly. What they have been pursuing refuses to yield any success.

They feel stuck, unable to explain why the progress, wealth, and growth stopped. In many cases, God has already been speaking to them about the next phase of their lives, but they are resisting His direction. One thing you must understand is that God will never ask you to leave a place without a purpose. God is not a God of confusion.

If He closes one chapter, it is because another chapter is waiting to be opened somewhere else. If He tells you to leave one location, it is because there is another assignment waiting for you. If He says your work here is complete, it means He has prepared something else for you to accomplish.

Look at this pattern: When Abraham left his father’s house based on a divine order, he was moving toward the promise of God somewhere else. When Elijah left the brook Cherith, he was moving toward provision in Zarephath. When the disciples left their fishing nets, they were moving toward their divine calling. Every move God instructed in the Bible was connected to a greater purpose.

A person who walks with God must learn that not every divine instruction will make sense immediately. Sometimes God asks people to move before the reason becomes clear. The explanation may come later, but the obedience must come now. The truth of the matter is that many people lack the spiritual discernment to detect what God is saying to them.

One of the greatest dangers in life is remaining where God has departed. Once God’s presence departs from a place, things may continue to look normal on the outside, but something vital is no longer working. Take Samson as an example. The Bible says that he arose as at other times to shake himself, but he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.

That is one of the most frightening statements in Scripture. Samson still had his body, his experience, and his reputation, but he had lost the presence that made the difference. What made him strong was never his hair; it was God’s power upon his life. The moment God’s presence departed, his strength disappeared immediately.

The same principle applies today. When God leaves a person, ministry, or assignment, the outward activities may continue, but the divine backing is gone. There are people who are still operating based on yesterday’s glory. They are still talking about what God did through them years ago, but there is little evidence of what He is doing now. They are relying on old testimonies instead of seeking fresh encounters with God.

Believers must learn to follow God and not merely follow personalities. If a pastor, leader, or spiritual mentor is no longer following God’s direction and has drifted from God’s purpose, wisdom demands that you seek God personally. Your loyalty should always be to God first. No human being should occupy the place that belongs to God in your life.

The truth is that God’s glory is what gives value to a person’s life and assignment. Without His presence, human effort achieves very little. When God’s hand is upon a person operating in a location, things naturally begin to work out. But that does not mean there will never be trouble. Rather, in that place, as long as God put you there, He will do everything necessary to keep you sustained, peaceful, and anchored.

Beloved, if God is telling you to move, do not let comfort keep you behind. If God is telling you to leave a place, a habit, or a relationship, obey Him. Your next level is connected to that obedience. Your breakthrough is on the other side of the decision you are hesitant to make. Your victory is waiting for the step you are afraid to take.

One of the main reasons people remain where God has left them is fear. They fear uncertainty. They fear failure. They fear trying new things. They fear starting life all over again. They fear losing connections in their present location. They fear what others will say or feel about them. But while they are afraid of taking a new risk, the presence of God is already waiting for them in the new location.

I know the story of a man who had been praying earnestly for God to lead him to the right life partner. For a long time, he kept having a strong impression in his spirit that it was time to relocate. He had lived in the same apartment for many years unmarried, but something kept urging him to move. One day, during a time of prayer, the Lord told him clearly that it was time to go.

Eventually, he obeyed and relocated. Several months after moving, he met a woman in his new neighborhood. They became friends, their relationship grew stronger, and over time they discovered that they were meant for each other. Today, they are happily married and blessed with three children. Now consider this question: If this man had refused to obey God’s prompting and remained in his former location, would he have met the woman who eventually became his wife?

This story reminds us that destiny is often connected to a specific location. Sometimes the blessings we are praying for are not only tied to prayer and fasting, but are directly connected to our obedience to relocate. God may have prepared an opportunity, a helper, a breakthrough, or even a life-changing relationship in a place we do not yet know.

When God says move, there is always a purpose behind the instruction. The right location becomes the meeting point between you and your destiny. Location is not only physical; it can also be spiritual. Remaining in an environment where God has already departed is one of the most dangerous positions a believer can find themselves in.

Many years ago, the glory of God rested upon Shiloh. It was the center of worship for Israel. People traveled there to encounter God. But because of sin, corruption, and disobedience, God’s presence departed from that place. What was once a place of divine visitation and spiritual significance became only a distant memory of former glory.

When God leaves a place, it ceases to bring a blessing. Where the presence of God has left, restlessness settles in. Where the presence of God has departed, you will find only difficulty and delay. Many people are complaining that things are incredibly tough for them, but unfortunately, the reason they remain stuck in one spot is because their heaven over that environment has closed.

God has left many marriages, businesses, ministries, and plans that were started outside of His will. People struggle to execute their plans and fulfill their purpose in those locations because, sadly, the Spirit of God has left that area. Those who used to celebrate their location because of the blessings it brought are now experiencing deep frustration and setbacks.

Many do not realize that some of their prayers are geographically targeted. They keep praying and fasting in the wrong location, while God is trying to reposition them elsewhere. If you are trusting God for marriage, your marital breakthrough may be connected to a particular location. The person God has prepared for you may not be where you currently are.

If you are looking for a job, the opportunity you have been praying for may be waiting in another environment. If you are trusting God for the fruit of the womb, your testimony may be connected to a specific place, a doctor, a hospital, or a divine encounter that is not in your present town. Some people are praying to travel abroad, but the process, connection, information, or helper they need is tied to a specific location they haven’t stepped into yet.

Others are praying for destiny helpers, business opportunities, ministry growth, or financial breakthroughs, yet the people God has prepared to assist them are not where they currently reside. This is why divine direction is so critical. God is a God of purpose and positioning. Throughout Scripture, He moved people from one location to another because their next level required a new space.

Ruth had to leave Moab before meeting Boaz. Joseph had to leave the prison before entering the palace. The miracle was not only in the blessing; it was in the right positioning. There are people God has assigned to bless you, encourage you, support you, and help you fulfill your destiny—but you must be where God wants you to be.

You cannot expect to meet the right people while remaining in the wrong place. Sometimes the difference between struggle and a breakthrough is simply divine positioning. The right location can open doors that years of human effort could never budge. What took years to pursue in one place may take only a few months in another because God’s favor is actively operating there.

What brought frustration to you in one environment may bring peace and progress in another. This is why believers should never ignore God’s leading when it comes to relocation, movement, or change. One truth you must never forget is this: if you do not move when God’s presence has left, nothing moves in your life.

A man who remains in the exact same position cannot expect different results forever. There comes a time when action becomes necessary. There comes a time when obedience becomes mandatory. There comes a time when God says, “You have stayed around this mountain long enough.” This does not mean every single believer should pack up and move physically tomorrow, but if God is speaking to you about a change, do not ignore His voice.

Pray for direction. Seek His wisdom. Ask Him to order your steps. The God who is leading you out has already gone ahead of you. The place He is taking you to contains the answers to the prayers you have been praying for years. Your next testimony is connected to your next move, your next breakthrough is tied to your next location, and your next helper is waiting on your obedience. The safest place on earth is never where you feel the most comfortable; it is exactly where God wants you to be.

Therefore, do not allow fear, comfort, or familiarity to keep you trapped where God has already asked you to leave. Follow His direction, and watch Him do what only He can do.

Prophetic Declaration

I decree and declare that every power keeping you in a place God has left shall lose its hold over your life. May God give you the grace to obey His instructions without delay. Every blessing connected to a specific location shall manifest. Every fear preventing you from moving forward shall be broken by fire. The Lord shall order your steps into divine opportunities, divine relationships, divine favour, and divine breakthroughs. You shall not miss your appointed place in destiny. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Key Lessons for Today

  • What God blessed in one season may not be where He wants you to remain forever.
  • Delayed obedience can delay destiny.
  • Being in comfort zone can become an enemy of progress.
  • A drying brook may be a sign that God is changing your season, not that He has abandoned you.
  • The safest place in life is not where you feel comfortable but where God wants you to be.

Personal Challenge

Spend time in prayer today and ask God to reveal any area of your life where He is calling you to move forward or relocate. Write down what He puts upon your heart and take one practical step of obedience.

Evangelism Challenge

This week, share the story of Abraham, Elijah, or Ruth with someone and explain how their lives changed when they obeyed God’s instruction to move. Encourage that person to trust God’s leading in their own life and remind them that following Jesus is the greatest step anyone can take toward discovering God’s purpose. Let your conversation inspire someone to draw closer to God and follow His direction without fear.

Wisdom for Today

“The place where God used to bless you may become a place of limitation if you refuse to move when He says move.”

Closing Reflection

Remember that God’s instructions are never designed to harm you. Whenever He says move, it is because He has something better ahead. Whenever He closes one chapter, it is because another chapter is waiting to be opened. Whenever He says your assignment is complete, it is because your next assignment is ready. May God give you the grace to recognize His voice, the courage to obey His instructions, and the faith to follow Him wherever He leads.
