Deliverance From Eating in the Dream – EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: October 13, 2026
Beloved, have you ever had a dream where you were eating food, drinking something, or being forced to swallow an unknown substance?
Perhaps you saw yourself eating at a strange gathering, receiving food from an unfamiliar person, or eating something you would never accept in real life.
Some people have even said they woke up with a strange taste in their mouth, or with a heaviness in their stomach, as if what they ate in the dream followed them into the morning.
Such dreams can be very troubling, and many people do not know what to make of them.
In deliverance ministry, eating in the dream is widely understood as a possible sign of spiritual contamination, temptation, sickness, or curses. This dream can be a warning that the enemy is trying to hurt you.
It may also reveal that you have been taking wrong steps in your waking life.
The enemy may use such dreams to try to renew old covenants, curses, and powers against a person, or to deposit something strange that is meant to fight against their health, their progress, or their destiny in the future.
The Bible shows that food and drink can carry spiritual meaning. Solomon warned, “For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence” (Proverbs 4:17).
He also warned about the table of the evil eye: “Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats… The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up” (Proverbs 23:6, 8).
When God described judgment upon a rebellious people, He said, “I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink” (Jeremiah 9:15).
In his sorrow, Jeremiah said, “He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood. He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones” (Lamentations 3:15–16). And the psalmist cried, “For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping” (Psalm 102:9).
In the Bible, what a person eats can be a picture of what he is receiving into his life, whether blessing or bitterness, life or affliction.
Eating in the dream can symbolise spiritual contamination. Just as physical food enters the body and becomes part of it, spiritual food can affect the spirit, soul, and body.
Paul prayed, “I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
He also said, “let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2 Corinthians 7:1).
When a person keeps eating strange food in the dream, it may be a sign that something is trying to defile their spiritual life. Some people notice that after such dreams, their prayer life becomes cold, their hunger for the Word dies, and their plans are disrupted.
Eating in the dream can also symbolise temptation. The first temptation in the Bible came through food. The serpent presented the fruit to Eve, and “the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes” (Genesis 3:6).
The devil also came to Jesus in the wilderness with food: “If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread” (Matthew 4:3). The enemy often presents his traps as something sweet and attractive.
“Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. But he knoweth not that the dead are there” (Proverbs 9:17–18).
Sometimes eating in the dream reflects what is happening in our waking life: we are accepting offers, relationships, deals, or habits that look sweet but carry poison, destruction and affliction inside.
This is why such a dream can also be a call to examine your choices. It may reveal that you have accepted something wrong that is now affecting you. Is there a relationship you entered against God’s leading?
Is there money you received through a wrong source? Is there a habit you keep feeding that you know grieves the Holy Spirit? Is there content you keep consuming that defiles your mind?
John described a little book that was “in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter” (Revelation 10:10). Many things in life are sweet in the mouth but bitter in the belly.
If your dreams are showing you that you are eating from wrong tables, ask the Holy Spirit to show you where you may be eating from wrong tables in your daily life.
Eating in the dream may also be connected with the enemy’s attempts to bring sickness and affliction. Many people testify that after repeated dreams of eating strange food, they began to experience unexplained weakness or recurring health problems. Whatever the source may be, beloved, you need to protect yourself.
The Bible says “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
Pray against every affliction, and at the same time go for medical checkups and receive proper treatment when your body needs it. Such dreams may also be the enemy’s attempt to delay and stagnate your destiny.
If there are old dedications, family altars, or past involvement with darkness that have not been renounced, the enemy may try to use this types of dream to reinforce those agreements against you.
This is why it is important to renounce every covenant that does not come from God and to stand under the new covenant in the blood of Jesus. “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us” (Galatians 3:13).
“Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel” (Numbers 23:23).
But let me be very balanced here, beloved, because I do not want anyone to live in fear. Not every dream of eating is a spiritual attack. “For a dream cometh through the multitude of business” (Ecclesiastes 5:3).
If you went to bed hungry, if you are fasting or dieting, or if you were thinking about food during the day, you may dream about food. Some dreams simply reflect our daily life and emotions.
Also, God Himself can feed His children in their sleep, as He did for Elijah under the juniper tree (1 Kings 19:5). So do not panic over every dream like this. Pay attention when the dreams are recurring, when the food comes from strange or dark sources, when you are forced to eat, or when you wake up troubled and heavy.
And hear this clearly: a dream does not have the power to destroy your destiny. Some people are told that because they ate in the dream, their destiny is finished or their life is ruined. That is not true for a child of God. Your destiny is in the hands of God, not in the hands of the enemy.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11).
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). Even if the enemy has tried to plant something, the blood of Jesus is able to cleanse it, and God is able to restore whatever was lost.
“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten” (Joel 2:25). The enemy may attack, but he does not have the final word over your life.
Beloved, eating in the dream is a battle many people do not take seriously. Over the years in ministry, many have shared painful testimonies of how their lives began to change after repeated dreams of eating strange food. Some say their business started collapsing after such dreams.
Some say their marriage plans suddenly scattered. Some say their health began to fail without a clear explanation. Others say they lost interest in prayer, became confused about their direction, or watched good opportunities slip away one after another.
In this way, the enemy has used such attacks to bring setbacks into many lives and to shatter many hopes. The Bible shows us that food has often been used as a trap to bring down destinies. Adam and Eve lived in paradise, in perfect fellowship with God.
But one act of eating what God had forbidden cost them the garden, their innocence, and their access to the tree of life. Esau was the firstborn, the rightful heir of the blessing.
But “for one morsel of meat” he sold his birthright, and “afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected” (Hebrews 12:16–17). One meal cost him his inheritance.
Look at Sisera, the captain of the army of Canaan. When he fled from the battle, he went into the tent of Jael and asked for water.
She gave him milk, covered him, and when he fell asleep, she drove a tent peg through his temples (Judges 4:19–21). The drink he accepted in the tent was the beginning of his end. Beloved, not every food offered to you in a strange tent is for your good.
Look at Amnon. He pretended to be sick and asked that Tamar should come and prepare food for him in his sight. He used food as a trap to defile her (2 Samuel 13:5–14). Two years later, Absalom invited Amnon to a feast, and while Amnon’s heart was merry with wine, Absalom’s servants killed him (2 Samuel 13:28–29). Both the evil and its judgment happened around a table.
Look at King Belshazzar. He made a great feast and drank wine from the holy vessels taken from the temple of God. That very night, the handwriting appeared on the wall, and “In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain” (Daniel 5:30). The feast he enjoyed became the night his kingdom ended.
Look at the children of Israel in the wilderness. They lusted for meat and complained against God. God gave them quails, “And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague” (Numbers 11:33). The place was called Kibrothhattaavah, meaning the graves of lust. What they craved became their burial ground.
Look at the young prophet from Judah. God told him not to eat or drink in Bethel. When he disobeyed and ate in the old prophet’s house, a lion met him on the way and slew him (1 Kings 13:18–24). One meal of disobedience ended a promising ministry.
And look at Judas. At the Last Supper, Jesus dipped a piece of bread and gave it to him. The Bible says, “And after the sop Satan entered into him” (John 13:27). Judas received the bread, went out into the night, and betrayed the Son of God. His destiny as an apostle was lost.
Solomon gave a strong warning: “When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat” (Proverbs 23:1–3).
Beloved, some meat is deceitful. It looks good on the plate, but it carries a hidden agenda. This is why we must take the table of darkness seriously, both in dreams and in daily life.
The enemy uses food and drink to defile, to make covenants, to plant affliction, and to steal destinies. Many people have eaten their way into bondage, sometimes in the dream, and sometimes in the wrong places with the wrong people.
But beloved, hear me well. As serious as this is, the enemy does not have the final word over the life of a child of God. Some people have been told that because they ate in the dream, their destiny is permanently destroyed and nothing can be done.
That is a lie from the pit of hell. What the enemy shattered, God can rebuild. What the enemy stole, God can restore.
“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm… And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed” (Joel 2:25–26). Notice the promise: the God who restores will also make you eat in plenty.
Look at the prodigal son. He wasted his inheritance, and he ended up so hungry that “he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him” (Luke 15:16).
He was eating from the table of pigs. But when he came to himself and returned home, his father said, “bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry” (Luke 15:23). He moved from the pig’s trough to the Father’s feast in one day.
Look at Mephibosheth. He was lame in both feet, hidden away in Lodebar, a place of nothing. But David brought him into the palace, and the Bible says, “he did eat continually at the king’s table” (2 Samuel 9:13). From a forgotten man to a permanent guest at the king’s table. That is what grace can do.
And look at Haman. He was invited to Queen Esther’s banquet, and he was proud and happy. But at that same table, his evil plot against God’s people was exposed, and he was hanged on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai (Esther 7). Beloved, God can turn the very table the enemy prepared against you into the place of the enemy’s defeat.
The Bible says the Lord gives “beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness” (Isaiah 61:3). If eating in the dream has brought ashes into your life, God can give you beauty.
If it has brought mourning, God can give you joy. If it has shattered your hopes, God can put the pieces back together and make something even better. The potter who saw the marred vessel did not throw it away; “he made it again another vessel” (Jeremiah 18:4).
So beloved, do not accept defeat. Rise up in prayer. Reject every food of darkness. Renounce every covenant made through eating. Plead the blood of Jesus over your life.
Close every open door to the enemy. Walk in holiness and obedience. Feed daily on the Word of God, the Bread of Life. And believe that the God who restores is able to rebuild every destiny that the enemy tried to destroy.
So what should you do? When you wake up from such a dream, pray immediately. Reject it and cancel it in the name of Jesus. Plead the blood of Jesus over your body, soul, and spirit. Command every evil deposit to be expelled by the power of the Holy Ghost.
Confess the Word of God over your life: “if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them” (Mark 16:18). Then examine your life for any open doors, repent of known sin, renounce every ungodly covenant, and stay away from every wrong table in your waking life.
Most importantly, feed your spirit with the right food. Jesus said, “Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?… If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” (Matthew 7:9, 11).
Your heavenly Father has good bread for you. “O taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:8). “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103).
Isaiah asked, “Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness” (Isaiah 55:2). And Jesus promised, “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna” (Revelation 2:17).
When your spirit is full of the Word of God, when you pray before you sleep, and when you walk in holiness and obedience, you become spiritually strong.
Many believers testify that as their spiritual life grew, they began to reject strange food even in their dreams. Your spirit man learns to recognise and refuse what does not come from God.
Beloved, do not be afraid. The table of darkness is real, but the table of the Lord is greater. “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over” (Psalm 23:5). Eat from God’s table, and you will be satisfied.
Let us pray.
Father, in the name of Jesus, I bring before You every hope that has been shattered and every area of my destiny that has suffered because of attacks in the dream. Every food of darkness I have eaten, I vomit it out by the blood of Jesus.
Every deceitful meat that has brought affliction into my life, lose your power now. Every covenant sealed through eating in the dream, be broken by the blood of the everlasting covenant.
Every virtue, opportunity, and blessing stolen through dream food, I recover it now by fire. Like Esau’s birthright, like Sisera’s life, like Judas’ destiny, I refuse to lose what God has given me through any table of darkness.
Restore to me the years the locust has eaten, and let me eat in plenty and be satisfied. As You moved the prodigal son from the pig’s trough to the Father’s feast, move me from shame to celebration.
As You brought Mephibosheth to the king’s table, bring me to the place of permanent honour. Turn every table the enemy prepared against me into the place of his defeat.
Give me beauty for ashes and joy for mourning. Rebuild every shattered hope in my life, and make me again a vessel for Your glory, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
PERSONAL CHALLENGE
For the next seven nights, commit to praying for at least fifteen minutes before you sleep. Read a Psalm of protection, such as Psalm 91 or Psalm 121, cover yourself and your home with the blood of Jesus, and reject every table of darkness.
Keep a notebook by your bed, and whenever you have a troubling dream, write it down, pray over it immediately, and bring it before God in the morning. If any physical symptoms persist, book a medical checkup this week.
EVANGELISM CHALLENGE
Reach out to someone who is troubled by bad dreams or living in fear of the night. Share with them that Jesus Christ is Lord over both the day and the night, and that He offers protection, peace, and freedom. Pray with them and invite them to give their life to Jesus, the Bread of Life.

AFRICAN PROVERB
“When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.”
Meaning: A house is most vulnerable when the threat comes from within: an unlocked door, a traitor inside, or a weakness left unattended. When the inside is secure, attacks from outside have little power. In the same way, when a believer closes every inner door through repentance, renunciation, and a strong walk with God, the attacks of the enemy, whether by day or by night, lose their power. Secure your inner life, and you will be secure in every season.
CLOSING REFLECTION
Beloved, the night belongs to God, and so do you. The enemy may try to sow tares while men sleep, but Jesus has given you authority over all his power. Do not live in fear of your dreams. Close every door, feed your spirit with the Word, pray before you sleep, and cover yourself with the blood of Jesus. Reject every table of darkness, and eat from the table the Lord prepares for you. Use wisdom with your health, and seek help when you need it. When you lie down, you shall not be afraid, and your sleep shall be sweet. Remain blessed in Jesus’ name.
