DAY 9: A CRY FOR MERCY OVER DELAYED PRAYERS
Numbers 32:23
But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.
Psalms 32:5
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Proverbs 28:13
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
Romans 6:1-2
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Malachi 3:7
Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Luke 18:7
And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
Jeremiah 33:3
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
INTRODUCTION
There are countless prayers that seem unanswered by God. The reasons may vary like sin blocking the channel, spiritual warfare from the enemy, or delays orchestrated by the devil. Of all the spiritual struggles a believer can face, delay in answered prayer is one of the most painful.
It is not the absence of prayer that hurts most deeply, but praying sincerely, consistently, and sacrificially without seeing any visible results. It is true that not every prayer will be answered in the way or timing we expect. However, there are some prayers that God answers by default like prayers aligned with His will and character.
For example, when you pray for the grace to sleep and wake up alive, stronger, and healthier, God faithfully answers that kind of prayers. Yet many believers have been praying for specific breakthroughs for years.
Some are praying for marriage, others for divine connections, some for deliverance, and many for better job opportunities and favor. Despite their faithfulness, they have seen no tangible results or evidence of progress.
It can be deeply frustrating and spiritually exhausting when you pour out your heart to God without receiving answers. This is why on Day 10 of this prayer journey, we must cry out for mercy over delayed prayers.
Patience is one of the greatest virtues of the Christian faith. When you pray, you must be willing to wait. You must cry out for mercy. You must create space for quiet time with God, allowing Him to speak and move in His perfect timing.
The Bible says, “I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1). God is not deaf to your prayers. Every tear you’ve shed, every fast you’ve observed, and every midnight cry you’ve uttered is recorded in heaven. Nothing is forgotten.
When God delays your prayer, He is often doing one of three things:
- Preparing you for what you’ve asked for
- Preparing the answer so it comes in the best form
- Clearing the way by removing obstacles and aligning circumstances
But when prayers are delayed beyond what seems reasonable, beyond their expected season, it is natural to feel discouraged, even desperate. This is when crying out for mercy becomes essential. Your cry causes God to rise on your behalf as you continue to wait on Him.
Scripture reveals that God’s mercy is what breaks prolonged delays and stagnation. When you cry out over unanswered prayers, you are not just praying, but you are getting God’s attention. You are pleading with Him to hear your voice and respond to your desperation.
Consider Daniel’s experience. He prayed for 21 days, yet his answer was delayed, not by God’s indifference, but by demonic opposition. Daniel 10:12-13 reveals that from the first day Daniel prayed, God heard him and dispatched the answer.
However, a spiritual battle raged in the heavenlies, where the prince of Persia (a demonic principality) resisted the angelic messenger carrying Daniel’s answer. It took 21 days of persistent prayer and divine intervention before the breakthrough came. When mercy was released, angels were dispatched to break through the resistance and deliver the answer.
This is why today’s prayer is not about praying randomly or casually. It is about crying desperately for your prayers to be remembered and answered. A cry for mercy is the prayer language of those who have waited too long, prayed too hard, and endured too much.
It is the cry of those who say, “Lord, if You don’t intervene now, I might not survive this season.” God has never ignored such a cry. Throughout Scripture, whenever His people cried out in desperation, He responded with compassion and power.
When mercy is released, even prayers that seem expired, forgotten, or impossible are suddenly revived and answered. A cry for mercy is not a cry of anger or bitterness. It is a cry of total surrender; a laying down of your will, your timeline, and your understanding at the feet of God.
It is an acknowledgement that without His intervention, you are helpless. This kind of prayer does not offend God; it attracts Him more to you. The Bible says God is rich in mercy (Ephesians 2:4). And rich people respond when they hear genuine desperation and sincere need.
God is not moved by eloquent words or religious formulas. He is moved by a broken, contrite heart that depends entirely on His grace. The enemy wants you to give up. He wants you to believe that God has forgotten you, that your prayers don’t matter, or that your situation is hopeless.
But I urge you: Don’t get tired of praying. Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Your breakthrough is connected to your persistence. Your answer is tied to your refusal to quit.
As you cry out to God today, may your prayers be heard and answered. May the mercy of God overshadow every delay, and may every spiritual hindrance be removed. I decree that your season of waiting is coming to an end, and your time of testimony is beginning.
CONFESSION
Heavenly Father, I choose to trust You even in this season of waiting. I confess before You every doubt, every moment of impatience, every frustration, and every silent complaint that has stirred within my heart because answers have been delayed. Forgive me, Lord, and cleanse my heart from frustration, discouragement, and hopelessness. I declare that my waiting will not end in shame. By Your mercy and grace, I believe my prayers will be answered, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP
Take 5-10 minutes to worship God and thank Him for the prayers He has already answered in your life.
HYMN – Ancient Words
1 Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world
They resound with God’s own heart
Oh, let the ancient words impart
Chorus:
Ancient words, ever true
Changing me and changing you
We have come with open hearts
Oh, let the ancient words impart
2 Words of life, words of hope
Give us strength, help us cope
In this world, where e’er we roam
Ancient words will guide us home
3 Holy words of our faith
Handed down to this age
Came to us through sacrifice
Oh, heed the faithful words of Christ
4 Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world
They resound with God’s own heart
Oh, let the ancient words impart
