DAY 5: A CRY FOR MERCY THAT CLEANSES ME
Psalm 51:1-2
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
Psalm 57
Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.
I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.
He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his truth.
My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.
They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have digged a pit before me, into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves. Selah.
My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.
Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations.
For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.
Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth.
INTRODUCTION
Romans 6:1
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
The mercy of God does not only forgive, it cleanses and purifies us. Forgiveness removes guilt, but cleansing removes stains. When God cleanses a man, He purges the conscience, resets the spirit, and restores purity in his heart.
The power of cleansing mercy washes away our hidden sins, secret faults, pollutions, bad thoughts, attacks from dreams and contaminations from wrong association.
In the Bible, whenever God showed mercy, His mercy cleanse, purify and restore the person. Isaiah cried out as an unclean man, and mercy touched his lips with fire (Isa 6:5-7). David did not only ask God to pardon him; he asked God to wash, purge, and renew him (Ps 51).
Many believers ask God for mercy but still struggling with sin. Why? because that same sin has never been washed away from their soul, spirit and body. Today’s cry is not only pardon of our sin but for purification.
A cry for mercy that cleanses is a cry from a broken heart. It is a cry from a heart that wants to put a total stop to his sinful lifestyle. It is a cry of someone who says, “O Lord, I don’t just want to be spared, I want to be pure. I don’t want to pretend, I want changes in my life.”
When you cry for mercy, you are simply saying the Holy Spirit should cleanse and purify your heart. Uncleanness is bad; Uncleanness can attract mistakes, punishment, shame, and wrong people to us.
When God wants to forgive a person, He cleanses the root (causes of the sin). And that’s why it’s important we make that effort from our end by confessing and genuinely repenting of our sin today.
When you cry for mercy, God sees your seriousness and determination to leave the sin. When God hears your prayer, He cleanses your heart and restore you. When a heart is pure, prayer answers speedily.
Many people’s prayers are delayed not because God is unwilling, but because the heart of many needs cleansing. Mercy that cleanses a heart prepares a man to stand before God without fear or shame.
You can’t continue in sin and expect God to answer our prayer. God does not the answer of a prayer that’s full of sin and wickedness. If you want to be a friend of God, you must separate from that sin today.
As we cry today for mercy, we are asking the Lord to purify our inner man, cleanse our spirit and restore a flow of His grace in our lives.
The truth is, our body, soul and body needs divine cleansing. Because if any of this polluted, it can easily affect our prayer and relationship with God. May the Lord show us mercy.
CONFESSION
O Lord my God, I humbly acknowledge that without Your mercy I cannot be clean. I renounce and repent of every known and unknown sin, every transgression, and every defilement of the flesh and of the spirit. By faith, I receive the cleansing and purifying power of the precious blood of Jesus.
Let every stain of sin, guilt, and condemnation be washed away completely. I declare that I am washed, I am sanctified, and I am justified by the mercy and grace of God through Christ Jesus. From this moment, I receive a clean heart, a renewed spirit, and restored fellowship with You.
I walk in righteousness, purity, and obedience, and I thank You for Your mercy that has made me whole, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.”
