Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
Galatians 5:1
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Romans 6:14
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
1 Corinthians 6:12
All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
John 8:36
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
INTRODUCTION
What is Negative Addiction?
Negative addiction is any habit, appetite, or behavioral pattern that has seized unlawful control over your will, your time, your body, and your spiritual life. It could be lust, anger, gambling, gluttony, or hidden sin that you practice in secret. Negative addiction is sin, and it is a thief that robs you of your blessings, your peace, and your destiny.
Anything you are negatively addicted to has taken the driver’s seat of your life. You are no longer in control; the addiction is fully in charge of your life. And behind every stubborn addiction is a demonic agenda orchestrated by the devil himself to ruin, disgrace, and destroy your life.
The truth is this: Anything you are too ashamed to tell people about is the very addiction that is silencing you. Darkness thrives in secrecy. The enemy knows that as long as you keep quiet, he can keep you bound. But the moment you drag that secret into the light, it begins to lose its power.
For example, your addiction might be alcohol. It might be smoking, lying, gossiping, deceit, pornography, or masturbation. Whatever it is, God is calling you to repentance today. He’s not condemning you, He’s offering you a way out. But mercy doesn’t flow freely to a person who has refused to repent or break free from their sin.
You cannot hold onto sin with one hand and reach for God’s mercy with the other. When you continue indulging in sin, you create a spiritual blockage for yourself. Your prayers hit a ceiling and bounce back. Your grace stops operating and flowing freely in your life.
Also your breakthroughs get delayed. The Bible says in Psalm 66:18, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.” Addiction doesn’t just affect your body or emotions, it affects your access to God. But here’s the good news: the mercy of God is more powerful than any stronghold of addiction in your life.
Mercy is light. Addiction is darkness. And when light collides with darkness, darkness has no choice but to flee. The mercy of God is not weak or passive, it is aggressive, liberating, and transforming. It breaks chains. It shatters yokes to pieces. It dismantles strongholds that have held you captive for years.
As you cry out for mercy today in desperation, that negative addiction will release you. It will lose its grip over your life. It will set you free. The same God who delivered the Israelites from Egypt, who broke the chains off Paul and Silas in prison, who set the demoniac free from a legion of demons, that same God is ready to deliver you right now.
So I declare over your life: as you repent and cry for mercy, may every negative addiction in your life release you and set you free, in the mighty name of Jesus! Amen.
CONFESSION
I declare by the power in the blood of Jesus that every negative addiction afflicting my life, family, body, mind, finances, relationships, and destiny is completely reversed, permanently removed, and eternally cancelled right now. By the mercy of God, I receive total forgiveness, supernatural strength, and absolute deliverance from every chain of addiction.
I refuse to be dominated, controlled, or ruled by any negative habit or compulsive behavior. Sin shall no longer have dominion over me, for I am dead to sin and alive unto God through Christ Jesus. By the precious blood of Jesus, I am liberated, emancipated, and set free indeed; I am free in spirit, free in soul, and free in body.
My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. My soul belongs to the Lord. My spirit is sealed by God. Therefore, no demon, no evil spirit, no power of darkness shall ever control, manipulate, or oppress me again. I am purchased by the blood of the Lamb, redeemed from the curse, and delivered from the power of darkness into the kingdom of God’s dear Son.
I walk in complete freedom, divine wholeness, and supernatural self-control. Greater is He that is in me than any form of addiction, any craving, any demonic stronghold in this world. I am more than a conqueror through Christ who loves me and strengthens me. In Jesus’ mighty name, I am free! Amen.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP
Spend 10–15 minutes worshipping God for His mercy and lovingkindness. Praise Him because He does not abandon you in weaknesses.
Before you sing, make this declaration:
“Lord, I come before You not in my strength but in Your mercy. I worship You not because I deserve Your presence but because You invite me to come boldly to Your throne of grace. I magnify Your holy name, the name above every name, the name that breaks chains and sets captives free.
I declare that You are faithful even when I have been unfaithful. You are strong even when I am weak. Your mercies are new every morning, and today I receive fresh mercy for complete deliverance from addiction.
As I worship God, let Your presence fill this place. Let shame be broken. Let guilt be removed. Let hope arise. Let faith increase. Let every demon assigned to my addiction tremble at the sound of my praise. I worship You, my Deliverer, my Healer, my Strong Tower. You are worthy of all glory, honour, and praise forever. Amen!”
HYMN – When We Walk With The Lord
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
and the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
[Refrain]
3 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]

PRAYER ASSIGNMENT
STEP 1: Prepare Your Heart
Find a quiet place where you can pray without distraction. Have your Bible, a pen, and paper ready. Come before God with a sincere and contrite heart, ready to be honest about your struggle.
STEP 2: Pray Psalm 51 Slowly
Read and pray Psalm 51 slowly, verse by verse. This is David’s prayer of repentance after his sin. Let every word sink deep into your spirit. Personalize it. Make it your own cry for mercy and cleansing.
Key verses to meditate on:
- “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness…” (v.1)
- “Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” (v.2)
- “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (v.10)
- “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.” (v.12)
STEP 3: Pray Psalm 49 Slowly
Now read and pray Psalm 40 slowly. This is a psalm of deliverance and thanksgiving. Declare every verse over your life, believing that God will bring you out of the pit of addiction just as He brought David out.
Key verses to declare:
- “I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.” (v.1)
- “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” (v.2)
- “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God…” (v.3)
- “Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.” (v.11)
STEP 4: Pray Romans 8 Slowly
Read and pray Romans 8 slowly. This is the chapter of freedom, victory, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Let the truth of your identity in Christ and your freedom from condemnation wash over you.
Key verses to confess:
- “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus…” (v.1)
- “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” (v.2)
- “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.” (v.13)
- “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” (v.37)
STEP 5: Write Down Your Addiction
On a piece of paper, write down the specific addiction you are trusting God to break. Be honest. Be specific. Don’t hide it. Bring it into the light.
Examples:
- “I am trusting God to break my addiction to pornography.”
- “I am trusting God to break my addiction to alcohol.”
- “I am trusting God to break my addiction to anger and violent behavior.”
- “I am trusting God to break my addiction to lying and deceit.”
- “I am trusting God to break my addiction to smoking.”
- “I am trusting God to break my addiction to masturbation.”
Write it down clearly. This is your point of contact with God.
STEP 6: Declare Your Freedom
After writing down your addiction and completing your prayers, stand up (if you are able), lift your hands to heaven, and say this declaration with faith and authority:
“I RECEIVE GRACE TO STOP IT TODAY!”
