Are You On The Lord’s Side? – EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: October 5, 2026

There comes a moment in every generation, in every family, and in every life when heaven asks a searching question: “Are you on the Lord’s side?”

Being on God’s side is more than what you call yourself. It is revealed by whom you follow, what you believe, how you live, and what you choose when obedience becomes difficult.

Being on the Lord’s side is not about carrying a big Bible, going to church every Sunday, holding a religious title, or shouting the name of the Holy Spirit. Those things are good, but they are not the proof.

Being on the Lord’s side is about surrendering your life to Jesus, repenting from your sins, having a good heart toward God and toward people, loving your neighbour as yourself, obeying His Word, and standing for righteousness even when others choose compromise.

It begins with the new birth. Jesus told Nicodemus, a respected religious leader, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). Nicodemus knew the law, prayed, fasted, and taught others, but Jesus told him he needed to be born again.

Beloved, you cannot be on the Lord’s side while refusing to give your life to Him. You cannot be on the Lord’s side while refusing to forgive your brothers. Religion activities cannot save you.

Church attendance cannot save you. Anger and bitterness cannot save you. But only Jesus Christ can redeem you. You cannot claim to be on God’s side while supporting evil.

Jesus said in Matthew 12:30, “He that is not with me is against me.” God does not support evil. He does not validate sin. He does not bless wickedness because it is done by a church member or a pastor.

The Bible says, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness” (Isaiah 5:20). And again, “He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD” (Proverbs 17:15).

When you defend what God condemns, simply because the person is your friend, your tribesman, your party member, or your family, you have stepped off the Lord’s side. “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil” (Exodus 23:2).

You cannot be on the Lord’s side while keeping secret sins. Many people look holy outside, but inside they are hiding things that God hates. “Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance” (Psalm 90:8).

Nothing is hidden from Him. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13).

Being on the Lord’s side is doing what heaven asks you to do and living a holy life, for “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).

God knows those who are truly His. Men can be deceived by appearance, but God cannot. The Bible says, “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity” (2 Timothy 2:19).

Notice the two parts of that seal. God knows His own, and His own depart from iniquity. If you name the name of Christ, you must leave sin behind.

It is easy to be on God’s side when everything is going fine. But the real test comes when obedience will cost you something. When telling the truth may cost you your job. When refusing a bribe may cost you a contract.

When keeping yourself pure may cost you a relationship. When standing for Christ may cost you the friendship of your family. That is the moment heaven is watching to see which side you will choose.

Beloved, being on the Lord’s side does not mean you will never face opposition. The Bible is honest about this: “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12).

Standing with God may cost you some relationships, some opportunities, or the approval of some people. John the Baptist told King Herod, “It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife” (Mark 6:18), and it cost him his freedom. But he never lost his place with God.

Jesus said of him that among those born of women, there was none greater. Never sacrifice your relationship with God simply because you want to be accepted by people.

The Bible tells us about some rulers who believed in Jesus, “but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God” (John 12:42–43).

What a sad report. Paul said, “for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10). When the apostles were commanded to stop preaching, they answered, “We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).

There will be times when you must choose between pleasing people and pleasing God. Those on the Lord’s side often choose God and abide by Him. You are not on the Lord’s side when you deliberately tell lies against someone.

Many people pray seriously in church, yet they spread false stories about their neighbours, colleagues, and brethren. Among the things God hates, the Bible lists “A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren” (Proverbs 6:19).

Remember Naboth. Jezebel hired two false witnesses to lie against him, and an innocent man lost his life (1 Kings 21:13). But God saw it, and judgment came upon Ahab and Jezebel.

Beloved, the tongue that lies against the innocent is fighting on the side of the devil, “for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44). “Thou shalt not raise a false report” (Exodus 23:1).

You are not on the Lord’s side when you are fighting against the truth. Some people know the truth but refuse it because it exposes them. Some fight the truth because it does not favour them. Some twist the truth to protect their interest.

But Paul said, “For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth” (2 Corinthians 13:8). Jesus is the truth. Whoever fights the truth is fighting Jesus Himself.

And you cannot be on the Lord’s side while trying to serve two masters. Jesus said clearly, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24).

You cannot serve God in the morning and serve the devil at night. You cannot carry the Bible in one hand and a charm in the other. You cannot sing “Holy, Holy” in church and live in fornication at home. You must choose one otherwise the Lord will spew you out.

Being on God’s side is not permission to become judgmental, proud, or hostile toward those who disagree with you. Some people think standing for God means insulting people, cursing them, or calling down fire on everyone who offends them.

When a Samaritan village refused to receive Jesus, James and John asked, “Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them?” But Jesus turned and rebuked them, saying, “Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of” (Luke 9:54–55).

Beloved, the spirit of Christ is not a spirit of hatred and pride. The spirit of Christ of arrogance and condemnation. Jesus calls us to stand for truth while walking in love, humility, and wisdom.

We are to be “speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15). “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves” (2 Timothy 2:24–25).

When people ask about your faith, give them an answer “with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15). You can hate the sin without hating the sinner. You can reject the lie without destroying the liar. “Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good” (Romans 12:9), but do it with the heart of Christ.

Being on the Lord’s side is ultimately about your relationship with Christ. It is about loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and loving your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 22:37–39).

“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar” (1 John 4:20). The Lord has shown us what He requires: “to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God” (Micah 6:8). That is the life of a person on the Lord’s side.

Beloved, religion is about activities, but relationship is about intimacy. You can be busy in church and still be far from Christ. Martha was busy serving Jesus in her house, running up and down, cooking and arranging. But Mary sat at His feet and listened to His word.

When Martha complained, Jesus said, “Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41–42).

Many believers are like Martha. They are busy for God but they do not have time with God. Being on the Lord’s side starts at His feet. Jesus said, “Abide in me, and I in you.

As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me… for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:4–5).

A branch does not struggle to stay on the tree; it simply remains connected. When you abide in Christ through prayer, His Word, and obedience, His life flows into you, and you begin to bear fruit naturally.

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3). Eternal life is not just going to heaven when you die; it is knowing God while you live.

Enoch walked with God, and “he was not; for God took him” (Genesis 5:24). Walking with God means going in the same direction as God. “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3).

If God is going one way and you are going another, you are not walking with Him, no matter how many times you call His name. Now let us look closely at what God requires.

First, He requires you to do justly. That means being honest and fair in all your dealings. “A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight” (Proverbs 11:1).

The trader who adjusts the scale, the worker who collects salary for work not done, the official who inflates the contract, the landlord who cheats the tenant, the tenant who refuses to pay what he owes, none of them can claim to be on the Lord’s side while doing so.

When Zacchaeus met Jesus, his first response was justice: “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold” (Luke 19:8). True salvation changes the way you handle money and people.

Second, God requires you to love mercy. Mercy means showing kindness to people who do not deserve it, the same way God has shown kindness to you. The Good Samaritan saw a wounded stranger on the road.

The priest passed by. The Levite passed by. Both of them were religious, both of them were busy with the work of God, but neither of them showed mercy. It was the Samaritan, the one people despised, who stopped, bound up the man’s wounds, and paid for his care.

Then Jesus said, “Go, and do thou likewise” (Luke 10:37). Beloved, the people on the Lord’s side are not the ones who pass by the suffering. They stop and help. Jesus said, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40).

Loving mercy also means forgiving those who offended you. “But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matthew 6:15).

You cannot hold grudges against someone for years and still claim to be on God’s side. Bitterness is a sign that something in your heart is still on the other side.

Third, God requires you to walk humbly. Pride will push anyone off the Lord’s side. Jesus told of a Pharisee who stood in the temple and prayed, “God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are,” while the publican stood afar off and “would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.”

Jesus said the publican went home justified rather than the Pharisee, “for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted” (Luke 18:11–14).

King Uzziah was greatly helped by God, “But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction” (2 Chronicles 26:16). Never let your success, your title, or your anointing make you forget that you are a servant.

Beloved, being on the Lord’s side must show in every area of your daily life. It must show in your marriage, where you love and honour your spouse as Christ loves the church.

It must show in your workplace, for “whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men” (Colossians 3:23). It must show in your speech, both in person and on social media, for “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying” (Ephesians 4:29).

It must show in your choices as a citizen, where you refuse to sell your conscience for money, for “the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous” (Exodus 23:8). It must show in how you treat the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the stranger.

Jesus said, “Ye shall know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16). Your fruit will show your side. Being on the Lord’s side is also a lifelong commitment. It is not something you do for one season and abandon in the next season.

The Lord says, “be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life” (Revelation 2:10). At the end of his journey, Paul could say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness” (2 Timothy 4:7–8).

It is not how you started that matters most; it is how you finish. And never forget that the Lord’s side is the winning side. Men may laugh at you, the world may reject you, and the enemy may fight you, but “the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish” (Psalm 1:6).

Those who stand with God may suffer for a while, but they will reign with Him forever. Paul said, “I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8). Whatever you lose for standing with Christ is nothing compared to what you gain.

When you are on the Lord’s side, you enjoy His protection. “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say; If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: Then they had swallowed us up quick” (Psalm 124:1–3). “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” (Psalm 118:6).

You enjoy His strength. “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him” (2 Chronicles 16:9). God is actively searching for people whose hearts are fully His, so that He can show Himself strong on their behalf.

You enjoy His remembrance. “Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD… And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels” (Malachi 3:16–17).

And you share in His final victory. “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful” (Revelation 17:14). Those on the Lord’s side are on the winning side.

So, beloved, Have you truly surrendered your life to Jesus? Have you turned away from sin, including the secret ones? Are you supporting what God hates?

Are you telling lies against others? Are you fighting the truth? Are you trying to serve two masters? Are you standing for righteousness with love and humility?

Your honest answers will show you which side you are on. let the Lord search your heart today. Do you have a living relationship with Jesus, or only religious activities? Are you abiding in Him daily? Are you just and honest in your dealings?

Are you merciful and forgiving toward others? Are you walking humbly before God and men? Does your fruit show that you are on the Lord’s side? And are you determined to remain faithful until the end?

The prophet Azariah declared, “The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you” (2 Chronicles 15:2). Today, make a clear decision.

First, repent of every form of compromise and every golden calf you have allowed into your heart.

Second, choose this day whom you will serve, and declare with Joshua, “as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Third, separate yourself from every association that pulls you away from God.

Fourth, consecrate yourself afresh to the Lord through prayer, the Word, and obedience.

Fifth, stand boldly for God in public as well as in private. “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13). Moses is still standing in the gate, and the call still echoes: Who is on the Lord’s side? Let him come.

Let us pray. Father, in the name of Jesus, I surrender my life completely to You. Forgive me for every sin, both open and secret dealings. Forgive me for every time I supported evil, told lies against others, or fought against the truth. I refuse to serve two masters; I choose You alone.

Give me the courage to always stand for righteousness even when it costs me something, and give me the grace to do it with love, humility, and wisdom. Let me never love the praise of men more than the praise of God. Let my life show clearly that I am on Your side, today and forever, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen. Remain blessed in Jesus’ name.

DAILY REFLECTION – ASK YOURSELF

  1. If Moses stood in the gate today, would I move toward him or stay in the crowd?
  2. Is there any golden calf in my life competing with God for my devotion?
  3. Am I bold about my faith in public, or only in private?
  4. In what area of my life am I halting between two opinions?
  5. Am I still following the Lord fully like Caleb, or partially like the ten spies?

WISDOM FOR TODAY

You cannot walk with God and with the world at the same time. The one who tries to stand on both sides will eventually fall on the wrong side.

PERSONAL CHALLENGE

Identify one area where you have been compromising your faith, whether in your speech, entertainment, relationships, business dealings, or habits. Make a clear decision today to bring it under the lordship of Christ. Write out Joshua 24:15 and place it where you will see it daily, and declare it over your life and household every morning this week.

EVANGELISM CHALLENGE

Share your faith openly with at least one person today. Tell them what Jesus has done for you and invite them to choose the Lord’s side. If you know someone who has backslidden like Demas, reach out to them with love and remind them that the door to return is still open.
