A covenant is a binding agreement between two or more parties, sealed with a sign, usually blood, and enforced by the powers behind it. In the spirit realm, covenants are legal documents. God Himself relates with man by covenant: with Noah by the rainbow, with Abraham by circumcision, with Israel at Sinai, and with us through the blood of Jesus.

The Bible reveals why blood is so central to covenant: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). Blood carries life, and blood speaks. The blood of Abel cried from the ground (Genesis 4:10).

Therefore when blood is shed on an evil altar concerning a person, that blood becomes a voice speaking against that person’s destiny. A covenant is a serious agreement, commitment or binding relationship between parties. Throughout Scripture, we see covenants.

God established covenants, people entered agreements with one another, and Scripture also strongly condemned participation in idolatry and agreements that turned God’s people away from Him.

Covenants seek agreement. They may be reinforced through words, sacrifices, rituals, repeated participation or continued obedience to their conditions. This is why repentance and renunciation are important.

You cannot ask God to break an ungodly covenant while deliberately continuing the practices that sustain it. If you are still consulting mediums, participating in occult ceremonies, visiting forbidden altars, wearing ritual objects or making sacrifices to other powers, you must turn away completely.

But there is another issue that concerns many believers: What about covenants, dedications, vows or spiritual commitments that other people may have attempted to make on your behalf especially when you were too young to understand or were not even aware of what was happening?

There are people who grew up in families where sacrifices were historically offered at shrines or traditional altars. Some families had particular rituals, objects, festivals or ancestral religious practices.

Some parents or grandparents may have made vows concerning their children. In some cultures, a child might have been taken somewhere, given something, marked in some way or involved in a ceremony before he or she was old enough to understand it.

However, not every covenant is established by God. Some people knowingly enter ungodly agreements through idolatry, occult practices, secret societies, sexual immorality, blood oaths, destructive associations or consultations with forbidden powers.

Others may have had vows, rituals or dedications performed over them when they were too young to understand or consent. In certain families, children are taken to shrines, rivers, sacred trees or ungodly altars and dedicated to idols.

Their names may be presented during rituals, and sacrifices may be offered on their behalf. Some parents or ancestors make vows concerning their descendants without considering the spiritual consequences of their actions.

There are decisions our parents and ancestors made before we were born. We did not participate in those decisions, and sometimes we knew nothing about them.

Joshua 24:2 reminds Israel that their ancestors had once served other gods. This shows us that idolatrous practices can exist within family histories.

But Joshua did not tell Israel that because their fathers served other gods, they were therefore permanently condemned to continue serving them. Instead, he challenged them to make their own decision:

“Choose you this day whom ye will serve.” Joshua 24:15. This is important. Your ancestors may have made their choices, but you are responsible for whom you choose to serve today.

In the Bible, covenants carried serious weight. They could affect families, territories and generations. Joshua 9 records how the leaders of Israel entered a covenant with the Gibeonites, and the agreement remained significant many years later. This teaches us that spiritual agreements should never be treated carelessly.

However, hear this clearly: the believer’s confidence is not in the strength of an evil covenant but in the superior covenant established through the blood of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 8:6 declares that Jesus is the Mediator of a better covenant, established upon better promises.

The enemy may point to an ancient agreement, but the blood of Jesus speaks a better word. Some people ask, “How can a covenant affect me when I was not present when it was made?” The truth is that people can experience the consequences of decisions made by those who came before them.

A child may inherit debt, property, citizenship, family conflicts or the consequences of destructive habits without participating in the original decision. In the same way, family patterns may attempt to continue through succeeding generations

If your family worshipped an idol, you do not have to worship that idol. If sacrifices were offered at a shrine, you do not have to continue participating in those sacrifices.

If your family practiced divination, occultism or rituals contrary to your Christian faith, you do not have to continue them simply because they are traditional.

There may be people reading this devotional whose families have histories involving shrines, idols, occult practices or ritual dedications. Perhaps you were told that something was done concerning you when you were a baby.

Perhaps your name was presented somewhere without your knowledge. Perhaps your family traditionally expects particular rituals from every member. If you have given your life to Jesus Christ, you should not live every day terrified that an unknown altar somewhere has more power over your life than your Saviour.

The blood of Jesus is greater than the blood of animals shed upon any shrine. The cross is greater than every ancestral altar. The name of Jesus is above every other name. The authority of Christ is greater than every principality and power.

When you genuinely surrender your life to Christ, you come under new ownership. 1 Corinthians 6:20 says, “For ye are bought with a price.” You no longer belong to darkness. You belong to Jesus.

You may not know everything that was done before you were born, but God knows. Your freedom does not depend upon discovering every name, date, shrine or ritual connected to your family history.

Your freedom rests in Jesus Christ. Bring every known and unknown matter before God. Renounce what is evil, repent of your participation, forgive those who acted wrongly and declare your complete allegiance to Christ.

The covenant of Jesus is stronger than every covenant made at an altar or shrine. The blood of Jesus speaks better things over your life. You belong to Christ, and no evil agreement has the final authority over your destiny.

Prayer Points

1. Father, I thank You because Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the law, being made a curse for me (Galatians 3:13).

2. Blood of Jesus, speak against every evil covenant speaking against my life, in the name of Jesus.

3. Every covenant made on my behalf at any shrine, river, forest, or altar, break and release me by fire, in the name of Jesus.

4. Every dedication made over my life at birth to any idol or strange god, I revoke you by the blood of Jesus.

5. Every blood covenant working against my destiny, be dissolved by the superior blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.

6. Every covenant I entered through food eaten in the dream, be nullified by the blood of Jesus.

7. Every handwriting of ordinance written against me in the spirit realm, I blot you out and nail you to the cross, in the name of Jesus.

8. Every evil priest or custodian enforcing ancestral covenants over my life, be disgraced and scattered by fire, in the name of Jesus.

9. Every altar ministering the terms of an evil covenant against me, catch fire and be consumed, in the name of Jesus.

10. Every evil mark or seal placed upon me as a sign of covenant, be wiped off by the blood of Jesus.

11. Every pattern of delay, stagnation, and failure attached to family covenants, break now, in the name of Jesus.

12. Every covenant of marital failure and spiritual spouse operating in my bloodline, be broken by the blood of Jesus.

13. Every covenant of untimely death over my family line, I cancel you; I shall live and not die, and declare the works of the Lord (Psalm 118:17).

14. Every evil agreement spoken over my head by anyone living or dead, I reverse you by the authority in the name of Jesus.

15. Every strongman guarding evil covenants in my foundation, be bound and cast out, in the name of Jesus (Matthew 12:29).

16. I withdraw every portion of my blessings held in bondage by evil covenants, in the name of Jesus.

17. Holy Ghost fire, purge my foundation from every covenant residue, in the name of Jesus.

18. Father, let my name be removed from every evil register and written in the Lamb’s Book of Life alone, in the name of Jesus.

19. I enter into a fresh covenant with the Lord Jesus Christ; my spirit, soul, and body belong to Him forever.

20. I seal my deliverance with the blood of Jesus; no weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

21. Every covenant my forefathers made with the gods of our land, lose your hold over my life, in the name of Jesus.

22. Every family idol demanding my service or my blood, I reject you; be silenced forever by the blood of Jesus.

23. Every inherited covenant of poverty in my father’s house and my mother’s house, break now, in the name of Jesus.

24. The fathers have eaten sour grapes, but my teeth shall not be set on edge (Jeremiah 31:29); every generational consequence, end with me, in the name of Jesus.

25. Every name given to me in honour of an idol or evil spirit, lose your spiritual power over my destiny, in the name of Jesus.

26. Every incision, tribal mark, or charm used to bind me to evil powers, be neutralised by the blood of Jesus.

27. Every placenta or umbilical cord buried or used to covenant my life to the earth or waters, I recover my destiny, in the name of Jesus.

28. Every hair, cloth, nail, or photograph of mine used for evil covenant, catch fire and release me, in the name of Jesus.

29. Every covenant sealed with sacrifices on my behalf, the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross overrules you, in the name of Jesus.

30. Every oath taken by my family before any deity, I break its binding power over me by the blood of the everlasting covenant (Hebrews 13:20).

31. Every sexual encounter in the dream sealing a spiritual marriage, I divorce you by fire and return your ring, in the name of Jesus.

32. Every marine covenant pulling my life backward, the Lord that rebuked the sea shall rebuke you, in the name of Jesus.

33. Every initiation into evil societies through dreams, be reversed and cancelled, in the name of Jesus.

34. Every evil gift I received in the dream as a covenant token, I return it to the sender by fire, in the name of Jesus.

35. Every masquerade and ancestral figure appearing in my dreams to enforce covenants, be arrested by the angels of God, in the name of Jesus.

47. Every blood or love charm used to bind me to the wrong person, lose your power and release me, in the name of Jesus.

48. Every covenant of barrenness and miscarriage over my womb or my household, be dissolved; none shall cast their young (Exodus 23:26).

49. Every covenant of sickness and infirmity passed down through my bloodline, I break you; by His stripes I am healed (Isaiah 53:5).

50. Every covenant of strange sickness enforced from the dream, be cancelled by the blood of Jesus.

51. Every blood-sucking covenant draining my strength and vitality, be broken, in the name of Jesus.

52. Every covenant of premature death over my head, be reversed; with long life will He satisfy me (Psalm 91:16).

56. Every covenant made over my children by anyone, be cancelled; my children are for signs and wonders (Isaiah 8:18).

57. Every covenant transferred to me through inheritance of land or property, lose your hold, in the name of Jesus.

58. Every evil covenant made by household enemies to control my life, be exposed and disgraced, in the name of Jesus.

59. I loose the bands of wickedness, undo every heavy burden, and break every yoke from my life (Isaiah 58:6).

60. Surely there is no enchantment against me, neither is there any divination against me (Numbers 23:23).

61. My soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and I have escaped (Psalm 124:7).

62. Upon mount Zion there is deliverance and holiness; I possess my possessions now, in the name of Jesus (Obadiah 1:17).

64. Every covenant formed by carrying charms, amulets, or protective objects, I reject you; let every such object in my possession lose its power, as the believers at Ephesus burned their books of curious arts (Acts 19:19).

65. Every covenant formed through involvement in secret societies or occult fellowships, I withdraw my membership by fire, in the name of Jesus.

66. Father, I repent of every door I opened to the enemy; wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin (Psalm 51:2).

67. Every covenant of shame and public disgrace over my life, be broken; for my shame I shall have double (Isaiah 61:7).

68. Every covenant designed to make me a laughingstock, be reversed; the Lord shall get me praise and fame where I have been put to shame (Zephaniah 3:19).

69. Every covenant of the tail and not the head, be broken; I am the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13).

70. Every covenant of backwardness pushing me away from my place of honour, be destroyed, in the name of Jesus.

1. Every covenant of rising and falling, be terminated; my affliction shall not rise up the second time (Nahum 1:9).

2. Every covenant made with the sun, moon, or stars against my destiny, be cancelled; the sun shall not smite me by day, nor the moon by night (Psalm 121:6).

3. Every covenant sealed through calling my name at evil altars, the name of Jesus silences you forever.

4. Every covenant manipulating my star and destiny, be broken; let my star shine again, in the name of Jesus.

5. Every evil covenant working through spiritual projection into my life, be dismantled by fire, in the name of Jesus.

6. Every covenant hiding my glory in the dark places of the earth, I recover my glory now, in the name of Jesus.

7. Every covenant of prayerlessness and spiritual dryness, be broken; Holy Ghost, revive my prayer altar, in the name of Jesus.

8. Every covenant fighting my love for the Word of God, be destroyed by fire, in the name of Jesus.

9. Every covenant designed to pull me out of God’s presence and back into bondage, you shall not prosper, in the name of Jesus.

10. Every covenant that makes me forget my breakthrough dreams and spiritual revelations, be broken, in the name of Jesus.

11. Father, according to Your Word, I shall not forget Your covenant, neither shall I fear other gods (2 Kings 17:38).

12. Every covenant established through incisions, concoctions, or bathing rituals I took part in, be nullified, in the name of Jesus.

13. Every covenant I entered through visiting herbalists, fortune tellers, or native doctors, I renounce you; be broken by the blood of Jesus.

14. I receive power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing shall by any means hurt me (Luke 10:19).

15. Whosoever gathers together against me because of the covenants I have broken shall fall for my sake (Isaiah 54:15).

16. When the wicked came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell (Psalm 27:2); let every covenant enforcer stumble and fall, in the name of Jesus.

17. Let the blood of Jesus become a mark upon my life and household; when the destroyer sees the blood, he must pass over me (Exodus 12:13).

18. By the weapons of my warfare, mighty through God, I pull down every stronghold built by evil covenants (2 Corinthians 10:4).

52. How shall any man curse whom God has not cursed (Numbers 23:8)? Every curse and covenant against me, be void.

53. As the bird by wandering and the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come upon me (Proverbs 26:2).

54. Every negative word I have spoken over my own life in frustration, I cancel it now and replace it with the Word of God, in the name of Jesus.

55. Every covenant through which my glory was exchanged for another’s shame, I recover my glory by fire, in the name of Jesus.

56. Every covenant of bewitchment over my mind and decisions, be broken; I receive clarity from the Holy Ghost.

57. Every covenant of evil exchange of my virtues, blessings, and destiny helpers, be reversed now, in the name of Jesus.

58. The Lord disappoints the devices of the crafty so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise (Job 5:12); every covenant plan against me, fail.

59. Every covenant plot against my life, be turned to the contrary, as in the days of Esther (Esther 9:1).

60. As Paul and Silas prayed at midnight and every band was loosed (Acts 16:25–26), let every covenant band upon my life be loosed now.

61. As the Lord visited Egypt at midnight (Exodus 12:29), let every stubborn covenant enforcer receive divine judgment, in the name of Jesus.

62. Every evil pit dug through covenant for me, let the diggers fall into their own ditch, and let their mischief return upon their own head (Psalm 7:15–16).

63. Right hand of the Lord, glorious in power, dash in pieces every covenant enemy (Exodus 15:6).

64. Lord, send out Your arrows and lightnings, and discomfit every power sustaining evil covenants against me (Psalm 18:14).

65. Blood of Jesus, cleanse me from every defilement that gave legal ground to evil covenants (1 John 1:7).

66. Blood of Jesus, purge my conscience from dead works to serve the living God (Hebrews 9:14).

67. Lord, go before me and make the crooked places straight; break the gates of brass and cut the bars of iron in sunder (Isaiah 45:2).

68. Every gate of brass shut by evil covenants against my progress, be broken now (Psalm 107:16).

69. My lines have fallen in pleasant places; I have a goodly heritage (Psalm 16:6).

70. At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto the Lord for His righteous judgments (Psalm 119:62).

71. Bless the Lord, O my soul, who has redeemed my life from destruction and crowned me with lovingkindness and tender mercies (Psalm 103:1–4).
