Topic: Don’t Be Afraid to Relocate

Opening Scriptures

Praise and Worship

Begin this morning by thanking God for where you are and where He is taking you. Worship Him because your destiny is not limited by your present location. Thank Him for every place that has sheltered you, every person who has helped you, and every opportunity you have received.

Ask the Lord to order your steps and give you discernment concerning where you should live, work, worship, serve, build, invest, and raise your family. Pray that fear will never keep you where God is asking you to move, and impatience will never make you leave where God is asking you to remain.

EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: August 17, 2026 – Don’t Be Afraid to Relocate

Beloved of God, somebody here today is sitting on a divine instruction that requires them to move, to relocate and unfortunately fear is holding them captive in the wrong location! I want you to understand something: Not every relocation is punishment, and not every place you have known for years is your permanent Canaan.

To relocate means to move from one location to another. It is an act of moving to settle in another area. If you relocate to where God wants you to go, you will prosper there. Location can hold the secret of a person’s blessing.

Sometimes, the will of God for your life is tied to a place you have not yet gone to! Abram was living comfortably in Haran, among his kindred, in familiar territory, when God spoke seven words that changed the course of human history: “Get thee out of thy country.”

Beloved, don’t be afraid to relocate! A lot of people are afraid of relocating, fearing that it will not favour them. Don’t be limited to relocate because the God who calls you out is the same God who goes with you!

There are blessings that God has stored up for you that are geographically specific! Abram could not become the father of nations while sitting in Haran. The greatness, the covenant, the blessings – all of it was tied to obedience that required movement.

God did not say, “Stay in Haran and I will bless you.” No! He said, “Get thee out… unto a land that I will shew thee… and I will make of thee a great nation.”

Many people are praying for a breakthrough that heaven has already positioned in another city, another nation, another environment and you are waiting for it to locate you where you are comfortable!

Some blessings will never find you in your present location, because your present location is not where God assigned them! Naomi and Ruth understood this principle. When famine hit Bethlehem, Naomi’s family relocated to Moab.

And later, when Naomi heard that the Lord had visited His people with bread, she made the difficult decision to return to Bethlehem.

Ruth, though a Moabite by birth, made one of the most courageous declarations in Scripture: “Whither thou goest, I will go.”

Beloved, that was not a small decision! Ruth was leaving her homeland, her gods, her comfort zone, her familiar culture, to relocate into the unknown, guided only by loyalty and faith.

And what did that relocation produce? Ruth became the great-grandmother of King David, and she is listed in the very genealogy of our Lord Jesus Christ! Sometimes, the relocation that looks like the end of your story is actually the beginning of your legacy!

Beloved, why do people resist relocation even when God is clearly leading them? Fear! Fear of the unknown. Fear of starting over. Fear of leaving family and familiar structures. Fear of financial instability. Fear of failure in a new environment.

But hear me, beloved, fear was never given to you by God! “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” When Isaac faced famine, his first instinct was to run to Egypt, the place of natural provision and familiar solutions.

But God intercepted him and said, “Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of.” Sometimes God will redirect your relocation plans entirely not because relocation itself is wrong, but because you are running to the wrong location out of fear, instead of moving to the right location out of faith!

 This is the key, beloved! Whether God is calling you to relocate to a new city, a new nation, a new church, a new job location, or even a new spiritual position, the confirmation is always divine presence and divine blessing attached to obedience.

Don’t let fear rob you of the “new thing” that God is doing! Isaiah declared, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth… I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Beloved, God specializes in making a way where naturally there seems to be no way! The wilderness of your relocation, the uncertainty, the strangeness, the unfamiliarity, is exactly where God will make His way manifest!

Beloved, Abram did not leave Haran the very day God spoke to him; Scripture shows us that his father Terah had already begun the journey toward Canaan but settled and died in Haran instead. It was only after that season passed that Abram finally departed in full obedience.

Beloved, sometimes the delay you are experiencing is not God punishing you, it is God perfecting the timing of your relocation, so that when you finally move, everything will align for your glory!

Do not despise the season of waiting before relocation, beloved. That waiting season is not wasted time, it is preparation time! Before Abram left Haran, God had already been dealing with him, shaping his faith, testing his obedience in smaller matters.

Beloved, if God has not released you to move yet, don’t force it! But if He has released you and you are still lingering in Haran out of comfort or fear, beloved, that is disobedience wearing the garment of caution!

Discern the difference between divine patience and human procrastination, because one glorifies God and the other grieves Him. Sometimes, God will tell you to relocate, but Satan will give you many reasons why you should remain where you are.

He may fill your heart with fear, uncertainty and negative questions: “What if I fail? What if things do not work out there? Who will help me there? How will I survive?” These thoughts are designed to make you doubt God’s instructions and remain in a place where your destiny can no longer flourish.

Divine relocation has opened doors for many people that would never have opened if they had remained in the same place. When God says it is time to move, you must be willing to move.

God does not give an instruction without making provision for its fulfilment. If He is leading you to another city, state, country, neighbourhood, church, workplace or business environment, He has already prepared a support system ahead of you.

God told Abraham in Genesis 12:1–2: “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.”

Abraham’s blessing was connected to his willingness to leave his familiar environment (comfort zone). If he had remained in that place or refused to relocate, he might never have entered the fullness of God’s purpose for his life.

Beloved, location is powerful. Location gives us the opportunity to influence what you see, whom you meet and the opportunities available to you. Some people’s blessings are hovering around another location.

Their destiny helpers, marital partners, business opportunities, promotions and divine connections are waiting elsewhere. They are praying for a breakthrough, but God is saying, “Move from this place.”

Your present location may have become your comfort zone, but comfort does not always mean divine placement. You may be comfortable where you are and still be outside God’s will.

God may disturb your comfort because He wants to move you into something greater. It’s wrong to allow familiarity, fear, family pressure or attachment to prevent you from obeying Him.

When Elijah’s brook dried up, God instructed him to go to Zarephath because He had already commanded a widow to sustain him there. First Kings 17:9 says: “Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.”

Elijah’s provision was no longer beside the dried brook; it was waiting for him in another location. If he had remained there, he would have suffered unnecessarily.

However, do not relocate because of pressure, competition, frustration or what others are doing. Pray seriously and seek confirmation from God. Not every attractive location is your promised land, and not every difficult place should be abandoned immediately.

Relocation must be led by God, supported by wisdom and properly planned. God’s direction will never contradict His Word. If God has genuinely told you to move, stop allowing fear to imprison you. Rise, prepare and obey. In that new location, God’s presence may be waiting for you.

A major opportunity may be waiting there. Your marriage, promotion, connection, restoration or next level may be connected to that move. Do not remain in a place simply because it is familiar.

When God says, “Move,” trust Him enough to move. Your obedience may be the key that unlocks the next chapter of your destiny.

Beloved, there are people whose testimonies will not manifest until they leave their present location. They may be hardworking, prayerful and spiritually committed, yet everything around them remains difficult because the season of that location has ended.

When God closes one chapter, do not continue living there because of fear. A place that once supported you can become too small for the future God has prepared for you.

Ruth experienced divine relocation when she followed Naomi from Moab to Bethlehem. Ruth 1:16 says: “And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.”

In Moab, Ruth was a widow surrounded by painful memories, but in Bethlehem, she met Boaz and entered a new chapter of restoration. The woman who left Moab empty became part of the lineage of Jesus Christ. Her change of location positioned her for a change of story.

There may be a Boaz waiting for you in another location. There may be a job, business opportunity, ministry assignment or destiny helper waiting for you there. You may not know anyone in that place, but God knows everyone.

When God sends you somewhere, He can touch the heart of strangers to favour you. He can make people who have never met you before become instruments of your lifting.

Joseph was taken from his father’s house and eventually brought to Egypt. Although his journey was painful, Egypt became the place where his gift was recognized and his destiny announced.

Genesis 41:41 says: “And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.” The location Joseph might never have chosen for himself became the location of his promotion. Sometimes, what appears to be a painful displacement may become the road to divine placement.

Some people are afraid to relocate because they are thinking only about what they will lose. They think about the friends they will leave behind, the familiar environment, the house, the church, the business or the relationships they have built.

But when God asks you to move, do not concentrate only on what you are leaving; consider what He is leading you into. Abraham left his relatives, but he entered a covenant.

Ruth left Moab, but she found Boaz. Elijah left the dried brook, but he found provision. Joseph left Canaan and became a ruler in Egypt.

Beloved, do not allow the opinions of people to stop you from obeying God. Some people will discourage you because they cannot see what God has shown you. They may call your decision foolish because they are judging it with human understanding.

Remember, when Noah built the ark, people could not understand him because they had not heard what he heard. When God gives you clear direction, you must value His voice above the noise of men.

Isaiah 30:21 says: “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” God knows the road that leads to your testimony.

He knows the environment where your gifts will be appreciated. He knows the city where your business will grow well, the place where your ministry will flourish and the people who will connect you to your next level.

However, divine relocation does not always mean travelling abroad. Some people believe they can only prosper when they leave their country. That is not always true.

God may direct you from one town to another, from one neighbourhood to another, from one workplace to another or from one spiritual environment to another. Your promised land may be closer than you think. The important thing is not whether the location is popular; it is whether God is leading you there.

Furthermore, relocation does not automatically remove every challenge in a person’s life. Sometimes, God uses those challenges to build your faith, develop your character and prepare you for what lies ahead.

There are also people who relocate physically while their minds remain in the old place. They continue to carry old habits, negative attitudes, sinful lifestyles and limiting beliefs into their new environment.

A new location cannot produce a new life if you refuse to embrace a renewed mind. If God takes you into a new season, allow Him to change your thinking, relationships, priorities and character.

Beloved, has God been speaking to you about moving? Have you remained where you are because of fear, family pressure or attachment to your comfort zone? If God has truly spoken, rise and prepare yourself. The resources may not all appear before you begin, but as you take obedient steps, God will provide what you need.

Your next testimony may be connected to your next location. Your helpers may be waiting for you there. Your gift may be recognized there. Your marriage, promotion, ministry expansion or financial breakthrough may be connected to that place.

When the cloud of God’s presence moves, do not remain behind. Pray until you receive clarity, then obey courageously. When God says, “Move,” move because His presence has already gone ahead of you.

Beloved, do not be afraid to relocate when God is leading you. He knows where you will flourish. He knows the people you need to meet and the opportunities connected to your assignment.

He knows the environment where your gifts will make room for you. Trust His wisdom above your limited understanding. The God who followed Jacob, preserved Joseph, established Ruth and promoted Daniel will not abandon you.

He will be with you on the journey, protect you in the new environment and establish the work of your hands. Your address may change, but His presence will remain with you.

Rise above fear. Break away from unnecessary attachment. Pray until you receive clarity. Prepare yourself wisely and move at God’s appointed time. The place may be unfamiliar, but the One leading you knows the way. Your divine relocation will not become a mistake; it will become the beginning of a glorious testimony, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prophetic Declaration

I declare that the Lord will order your steps and lead you to the location of your divine fulfilment. You will not relocate into trouble, confusion or destruction. You will not leave your place of blessing through deception, and you will not remain where God has commanded you to leave.

Every spirit of fear, delay and discouragement assigned to hinder your movement is broken today. The Lord will go before you, make every crooked path straight and connect you with the helpers prepared for your journey. In your new location, doors of opportunity, promotion, marriage, favour and divine connection shall open unto you.

You will not struggle without results, and your relocation will not end in regret. Wherever your blessings are waiting, the Spirit of God will guide you there. You shall flourish, prosper and fulfil your divine assignment. Your movement shall produce restoration, enlargement and undeniable testimonies, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Personal Challenge

Take time today to pray and ask God whether you are still in the location He has chosen for you. Examine whether fear, family pressure, comfort or uncertainty has prevented you from obeying His instruction. Write down the direction you believe God is giving you, seek confirmation through His Word and receive counsel from spiritually mature people.

If God has clearly instructed you to relocate, begin taking practical steps by gathering information, saving money, preparing the necessary documents and making responsible arrangements. Be determined to follow God wherever He leads you.

Evangelism Challenge

Reach out to someone today who is afraid of taking a step God has placed in their heart. Encourage the person with the story of Abraham in Genesis 12:1–4 and remind them that God never leads anyone without going ahead to prepare the way.

If possible, share this devotional with at least three people who are considering relocation or struggling with fear about their future. Pray with them and encourage them to seek God’s direction before making any decision. Let them know that genuine success is not found merely in a popular location but in being where God wants them to be.

14. O Lord, connect me with the right people who will help, not hinder, my relocation, in Jesus’ name.

15. I receive grace to say goodbye to my old season without bitterness or regret, in Jesus’ name.

16. Father, let every document, approval, or process required for this move be favoured and expedited, in Jesus’ name.

17. O Lord, let my children and household embrace this transition with peace and joy, in Jesus’ name.

18. Father, let every confusion surrounding my relocation decision disappear tonight, in Jesus’ name.

19. Holy Spirit, reveal every hidden danger associated with any location I am considering, in Jesus’ name.
