SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR SPOUSE

Opening Scriptures (KJV)

Ecclesiastes 9:9

“Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.”

Ephesians 5:25-28 (KJV)

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.”

Memory Verse

Genesis 2:24

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

EJOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL: July 27, 2026 – Spend Quality Time With Your Spouse

Marriage is one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind. It is more than living under the same roof or raising children together. It is a covenant relationship that requires love, commitment, communication, forgiveness, and intentional investment.

One of the greatest threats to many marriages today is not always adultery or conflict, but neglect. Many couples become so busy with work, ministry, business, social media, or the pressures of life that they gradually stop spending meaningful time together.

Quality time is one of the strongest expressions of love. Your spouse needs you more than the financial support. Your spouse needs your attention, companionship, encouragement, affection, and presence. Many people provide everything for their family except their attention.

They buy expensive gifts but have no time to listen to their spouse advices, warnings or words of encouragement. They build successful careers but fail to build a successful marriage.

God never intended marriage to become a relationship of strangers sharing the same house. A healthy marriage grows when husband and wife intentionally make time for each other despite life’s responsibilities.

The devil understands that a united couple is difficult to defeat. That is why he often introduces distractions, busyness, misunderstandings, emotional distance, unnecessary arguments, and competing priorities into marriages.

When couples intentionally spend quality time together, they strengthen their emotional bond, deepen their friendship, improve communication, and create an atmosphere where love continues to grow.

A healthy marriage does not happen by accident; it is built daily through commitment, sacrifice, and intentional love. No matter how demanding your schedule may be, never become too busy for your spouse.

Your career, ministry, business, and achievements are important, but your marriage is one of the greatest earthly responsibilities God has entrusted to you.

Invest time in your spouse today, because relationships flourish where love receives time, attention, and care. If you are always available for friends, colleagues, church members, clients, or social media but unavailable for your spouse, your priorities need to be examined.

Your first earthly ministry after God is your family (marriage). The Bible tells husbands to dwell with their wives according to knowledge (1 Peter 3:7).

Knowledge comes through spending time together with your spouse. You cannot understand someone you hardly communicate with. You cannot understand the pain of someone you hardly spend time with.

Couples should intentionally create memorable moments together. Eat together whenever possible. Always pray together. Discuss your plans and dreams together. Laugh together.

Take walks to the restuarant together. Wear the same clothes together. Celebrate little achievements together. Encourage one another even when you are angry with your spouse.

Learn to put away your phones and give each other undivided attention. That small daily investment towards your spouse make marriage strong over time. Remember that your spouse is not a project to manage but a companion to cherish.

Remember your spouse needs more of your attention like never before. Your marriage should be a place of peace, friendship, and mutual encouragement.

Never wait until your marriage is in trouble before making time for your spouse. Build the relationship every day while love and understanding are still growing.

Do everything to make your spouse happy. If she needs new shoes, if you are capable, buy her the shoes. If your husband is demanding for sex, if you are emotionally ready for it, give it to him. If your husband is preparing to take you out, do not decline.

Spending quality time with your spouse is not about spending the whole day with him. It’s about creating little moment to make each other happy without being forced to do it. If your wife is going to church, please follow her. If your husband is asking you to support him in his work, do it with joy.

If your wife is telling you to take the family for shopping, if you are financially okay, do not decline. Marriage isn’t about having all the money to spend on your spouse, but it’s about making use of the little time to enjoy yourself. That simple kiss might be the thing that will restore the marriage.

That simple gift can just reset everything for good. Another important aspect of spending quality time together is learning to resolve disagreements with maturity and respect.

Every marriage experiences differences, but good couples refuse to allow unresolved conflicts to accumulate or escalate outside the four corner of their home.

They make time to talk, apologise when necessary, forgive quickly, and seek peaceful solutions. Refusing to communicate with your spouse allows small misunderstandings to become major problems.

Many couples are physically together but emotionally disconnected. They sleep on the same bed but very far emotionally, eat at the same table, and ride in the same car, yet they rarely have meaningful conversations or good times.

They live as friends instead of husband and wife. They hardly have good times together. Their discussions revolve around bills, children, work, or problems, while their emotionally bond quietly fades away.

Unfortunately, they have the enemy in thieir marriage trying to bring division. God desires your marriage to be more than a partnership for survival.

He wants your marriage to be fun and entertaining. He wants it to be a relationship where both husband and wife find true comfort, satisfaction, encouragement, and strength in each other.

Spending quality with your spouse is the best. Because it makes you know what’s bothering your spouse. It makes you know the plans, expectations or the trouble currently brewing;

Sometimes, spouse should find time to travel, go for retreat, change their environment, go for vacation etc. If there is money, these are things that can reshape the marriage.

No one is perfect in marriage. Presenting your opinions on how to take the marriage further will help to correct so many things, and perfect things collectively. Learn to celebrate each other’s achievements, no matter how small they may seem.

Appreciate your spouse’s efforts in secret and in public. Say “thank you my love” often. It goes a long way. God has wired our brain to accept encouraging words from those we loved.

Speak words that can build confidence and strengthen faith instead of words that discourage or tear apart. As a woman, correct your husband in love and as a husband, correct your wife calmly and with wisdom.

Make it a habit to ask your spouse questions that go beyond routine. Ask, “How are you really feeling today?” “Is there anything I can do to make your day easier?” “What can I pray with you about?” “Is there anything else bothering you”?These simple questions tend to bring engagement and interaction.

Sometimes your spouse does not need a solution immediately; they simply need someone who will listen with patience and understanding without judgement. While praying to revive your marriage, please be careful not to compare your marriage with what you see on social media.

Your husband needs your respect, your smile, your encouragement, and your companionship. There are emotional needs that money alone can never satisfy. Many husbands become so consumed with the pursuit of money that they unknowingly neglect the emotional and physical needs of their wives.

They wake up early, return home late, and believe that paying bills is the highest expression of love.  Your wife needs more than your income, she needs your presence. She needs your attention, your affection, your encouragement, and your touch.

Many pictures only show happy moments but hide private struggles. Focus on building the marriage God has given you instead of chasing unrealistic expectations. Every successful marriage is built behind closed doors through love, patience, sacrifice, humility, communication, and God’s grace.

Many people see spending quality time with their spouse as a burden instead of a blessing. They feel there is no need to sacrifice their time for their husband or wife because they are busy chasing success, building a career, running a business, or making more money.

While working hard to provide for your family is important, it should never replace your presence in the home. Money is not everything. A healthy marriage cannot be sustained by financial provision alone. Your wife needs your affection, your attention, and your gentle touch.

God designed marriage to be a relationship of companionship, intimacy, and friendship. Physical intimacy between husband and wife is not a burden or a mere obligation; it is a gift from God that strengthens the bond between them.

A husband should not constantly deny his wife affection because he is too busy, too tired, or too distracted. Likewise, a wife should not neglect her husband’s attention. A healthy marital relationship includes emotional intimacy, spiritual intimacy, and physical intimacy.

When these areas are intentionally nurtured, love continues to grow. Beyond physical affection, couples should regularly spend time talking to each other. Communication is the heartbeat of every successful marriage. Discuss your children’s future.

Pray about their education, character, and spiritual growth. Talk about your finances. Plan your investments wisely. Review your monthly spending. Discuss your goals, your fears, and your expectations. Do not leave important decisions to assumptions or guesswork.

Couples who communicate regularly are less likely to be divided by misunderstandings.  The Bible says in Genesis 2:24, “They shall be one flesh.” Becoming one flesh is not only about living together; it also speaks of unity in purpose, openness, and mutual trust.

Your spouse should not constantly discover important information from outsiders before hearing it from you. Make your home a place where honesty is welcomed and truth is spoken in love. Never forget that you married your best friend, not your former boyfriend or girlfriend, not your ex, and not a stranger.

Your spouse should remain the person you enjoy talking to the most. Friendship is one of the greatest foundations of a lasting marriage. Also, do not allow your marriage to become nothing more than paying bills, raising children, and solving problems.

Sometimes the memories you create together become the strength that carries your marriage through future storms. Life is more than making money. Wealth may build a comfortable house, but only love, commitment, communication, and God’s presence can make that house a peaceful home.

Long after your career has ended and your business has changed, your spouse will remember whether you gave them your time, your attention, and your heart. Therefore, choose today to intentionally invest in your marriage.

The time you spend loving your spouse is never wasted, it is an investment that produces joy, unity, stability, and God’s blessing upon your home.

Marriage should never become a relationship where husband and wife only meet to discuss problems. Some couples only have serious conversations when there is a financial crisis, school fees to pay, or an argument to settle. That is not God’s design for marriage.

There should be moments when you simply enjoy each other’s company without any pressure. Learn to laugh together. Tell stories. Reminisce about how you met. Share your testimonies. Build fresh memories that will strengthen your friendship.

Never become too familiar with your spouse that you stop appreciating them. It is easy to appreciate people outside your home while overlooking the sacrifices of the person living with you every day.

A husband should appreciate the little things his wife does. A wife should appreciate the efforts her husband makes to provide and protect the family.

Appreciation creates an atmosphere where love continues to flourish. Be interested in your spouse’s personal growth. Ask about their dreams. Encourage their gifts. Support their vision. Celebrate their progress instead of competing with them.

Marriage is not a competition where one person wins and the other loses. It is a partnership where both people succeed together. As a husband, become a safe place where your wife can freely express her fears without being mocked or judged.

As a wife, become someone your husband can trust without fear of constant criticism. A peaceful conversation at home often removes burdens that no amount of money can remove.

Couples should also develop the habit of making decisions together. Before making major financial commitments, changing jobs, relocating, starting a business, or making significant family decisions, seek each other’s opinion.

One of the greatest ways to show respect in marriage is by making your spouse feel included rather than ignored, regardless of whether they are less educated, less exposed, or even more educated and exposed than you are. Unity in decision-making prevents errors, mistakes, and unnecessary conflict, while strengthening mutual confidence in one another.

Do not wait until sickness, separation, or death reminds you of your spouse’s value. Many people only realize the importance of their husband or wife after they have lost the opportunity to enjoy them when they were alive. This time, treasure your spouse while they are alive.

Speak kind words while they can hear them. Show affection while they can feel it. Spend time together while God has given you both the privilege of life. Transparency is another pillar of a successful marriage. Husband and wife should be truthful with each other.

Secrets have destroyed many homes. Hidden debts, secret bank accounts, undisclosed relationships, and concealed financial decisions often create distrust and unnecessary conflict. Marriage thrives where honesty exists. When trust is broken, it takes time to rebuild.

Therefore, let truth guide your relationship in every area. Many people spend years building wealth only to discover that they have lost the love, trust, and friendship of their spouse. A bank account may be full while the marriage is empty or full of stress.

A beautiful house may be built, yet there is no peace, laughter, or genuine communication within its walls. Success outside the home has no value if your family is falling apart inside. The truth is, what you refuse to give attention to today may become a serious problem tomorrow.

Neglected relationships often create room for loneliness, resentment, misunderstanding, cheating, temptation, and emotional distance. The little complaints you ignore today may become the major crises you will struggle to fix tomorrow.

One of the greatest investments you can ever make is investing in your marriage. The love, trust, and friendship you build with your spouse can become a lasting source of joy and strength.

A marriage that is intentionally nurtured by Christ becomes a place of refuge in difficult times and a source of encouragement during seasons of uncertainty. Sometimes when you are not close to someone, you may not know what they are thinking.

The fact that you see couples shopping in the restuarant does not mean all is well.  A wise husband or wife pays attention to the little changes in their spouse before they become major problems in the marriage. Learn to recognize your spouse’s love sign language.

Some people feel loved or happy through quality time, while others appreciate words of affirmation, acts of service, thoughtful gifts, or physical affection. Ask God to help you understand what makes your spouse feel valued, honoured and loved for.

Love is not only about what you enjoy giving; it is also about giving what your spouse genuinely needs. Another important habit that strengthens marriage is learning to carry each other’s burdens.

Your spouse should not fight life’s battles alone while you remain unaware of what they are going through. If your husband is under pressure at work, encourage him instead of adding to his frustration.

If your wife is emotionally exhausted from caring for the home and children, support her instead of assuming it is solely her responsibility. Marriage means standing together, especially during difficult seasons.

There are husbands who know they are wrong but refuse to apologize because they believe saying “I’m sorry” will make them appear weak.

There are wives who keep records of every past offence and bring them up whenever there is a disagreement. Such attitudes only deepen wounds. A humble apology and a willing heart to forgive can save a marriage from unnecessary pain.

Learn to protect your spouse’s dignity. Never embarrass your husband or wife before family members, friends, or your children. Correct one another in love and in private. Words spoken in anger may be forgotten by the speaker, but they often leave scars in the heart of the listener. Be careful how you speak to the person God has entrusted to you.

One of the most powerful habits a couple can develop is praying together. A husband and wife who regularly seek God’s face together invite His presence into their home. Couples who pray together are often better equipped to face life’s challenges because they depend on God’s wisdom rather than their own understanding.

Respect each other’s opinions even when you do not completely agree. Your spouse may see something from a different perspective, and listening carefully may prevent costly mistakes. A marriage where only one person is allowed to speak is not a healthy marriage.

God gave both husband and wife wisdom, and both should have the freedom to contribute to the family’s progress. Keep outsiders from taking the place that belongs to your spouse. Your husband or wife should be the first person you share your major victories, disappointments, and important decisions with.

When you become more emotionally connected to someone else than to your spouse, you are opening a door that can weaken your marriage. Guard the intimacy of your relationship with wisdom. Never become so busy making a living that you forget to build a life with the person God has given you.

Your spouse should never have to compete with your phone, your business, your ministry, or your career for your attention. There must be a healthy balance. God expects you to be faithful both in your assignment and in your marriage.

Always remember that one day your career may end, your business may change, and money may come and go, but the memories you create with your spouse, the love you cultivate, and the bond you strengthen will remain priceless.

Therefore, make your marriage a priority. Invest your time in the one you vowed to love, cherish, and stand beside for the rest of your life. A few intentional moments of love today can preserve your marriage for many years to come. Build spiritual habits together.

Read the Bible as a couple whenever possible. Worship together. Fast together occasionally. Lay hands on one another and pray. A husband should not only be a provider but also a spiritual leader in the home. A wife should not only be a helper but also an intercessor for her husband.

Couples who seek God together build a foundation that is difficult for the enemy to destroy. Never stop pursuing each other. Do not assume that because you are legally married, the work of winning each other’s heart is over.

Continue expressing your love and care. Continue serving one another. Continue surprising one another with thoughtful acts of kindness. Continue speaking words that heal, encourage, and inspire.

Marriage is not sustained by a wedding ceremony; it is sustained by daily choices to love, honour, respect, and cherish each other. Children are a blessing from the Lord, but they should never replace the relationship between husband and wife.

Some couples become so focused on raising children that they neglect their own marriage. As the years pass, they discover that they have become excellent parents but distant companions.

Remember that one day the children will grow up and establish homes of their own, but your covenant with your spouse remains. Also remember that your children are watching your marriage every day. The way you treat your spouse teaches them what love, respect, patience, and commitment look like.

Your marriage is one of the greatest sermons your children will ever hear. Let them see Christ reflected in your words, your actions, and your relationship. Never deny your spouse of the fun and entertainment. Make your spouse happy.  Make room for each other today.

Even if you have only thirty minutes together after a busy day, make those moments count. Sit together and share your experiences. Life is not only about work but about maintaining a better relationship.

These simple habits may appear insignificant, but they strengthen the emotional bond that keeps a marriage healthy. Your spouse should not suffer because of the challenges you faced in your office or business.

While it is normal to experience difficult days, learn to separate your workplace from your home. Ask God for the wisdom to leave unnecessary burdens at His feet instead of carrying them into your marriage.

Many men never create time to have sexual fun with their wife. That’s bad. You don’t have sex not only because of children purpose, but you have sex for fun. Speak life into your spouse every day. A sincere compliment, a word of appreciation, or an encouraging sentence can brighten an entire day.

Never assume your husband or wife already knows how much you appreciate them. Tell them. Appreciation keeps love alive, while constant criticism slowly weakens the heart. Invite God into your marriage daily.

A marriage centered on Christ has the strength to overcome misunderstandings, financial challenges, health problems, and every attack of the enemy. When God remains at the center of your home, love is renewed, forgiveness becomes easier, and peace reigns even during difficult seasons.

Above all, remember that your marriage is a testimony to your children, your relatives, and the world around you. A loving and united home reflects God’s design for marriage. Let your relationship demonstrate patience, forgiveness, faithfulness, sacrifice, and genuine friendship.

As you continually invest your time, your love, and your heart in your spouse, may your marriage become stronger with every passing year, bringing glory to God and becoming a blessing to everyone around you. May the Lord strengthen every husband to love sacrificially and every wife to respect wholeheartedly.

May He restore broken communication, renew affection, remove every spirit of division, and fill every Christian home with joy, unity, and lasting peace. In Jesus’ mighty name. May your home never lack laughter.

May God teach every husband to love sacrificially and every wife to honour faithfully, so that your marriage will remain a testimony of His grace for many generations to come. Amen

Prophetic Declaration

Daily Reflection

Take a quiet moment today and honestly reflect on your marriage.

  • Am I giving my spouse quality time, or only giving excuses?
  • When was the last time we had a meaningful conversation without distractions?
  • Does my spouse feel loved, appreciated, and emotionally safe with me?
  • Am I so busy pursuing money that I have neglected the person God gave me?
  • Do I listen to my spouse with patience, or do I only listen when there is a problem?
  • Have I allowed work, ministry, business, friends, or social media to take the place that belongs to my spouse?
  • Is there any secret I am keeping that could damage trust in our marriage?
  • Do we pray together and seek God’s direction as husband and wife?
  • When was the last time I sincerely appreciated my spouse for their sacrifices?
  • Am I creating happy memories with my spouse, or are we only discussing responsibilities and problems?
  • If my spouse were asked today, would they say they enjoy spending time with me?
  • What practical step can I take today to make my spouse feel more loved, valued, and respected?

Today’s Challenge

Today’s challenge is simple but powerful: Choose your spouse again. Do not allow the demands of life to steal the joy of your marriage. Before today ends, make a deliberate effort to strengthen your relationship.

  • Set aside at least 30–60 minutes of uninterrupted time with your spouse.
  • Put away your phone, television, and every unnecessary distraction and spend time with your spouse.
  • Tell your spouse three things you genuinely appreciate about them.
  • Discuss one family goal you both want to achieve before the end of the year.
  • Pray together and commit your marriage, children, finances, and future into God’s hands.
  • If there is any misunderstanding between you, take the first step towards reconciliation. Do not wait for your spouse to make the first move. Do not allow pride to rob your home of peace.
  • Show love through your actions – a warm embrace, holding hands, kind words, or any thoughtful gesture that reassures your spouse of your love.
  • Make a fresh commitment to be transparent, faithful, and intentional in your marriage.

Remember: Your spouse is God’s precious gift to you. Do not wait until tomorrow to show love. The greatest investment you can make today is not only in your career or finances, but also in the marriage that God has entrusted to you.

Evangelism Challenge

This week, be intentional about strengthening your relationship not only with your own marriage but also encouraging others to build godly homes.

  • Share today’s devotional with at least one married couple or someone preparing for marriage.
  • Pray for three families you know that God will strengthen their love, unity, and commitment.
  • Encourage a couple who may be going through a difficult season with a word of hope and a prayer.
  • If you know someone who is neglecting their marriage because of work, responsibilities or other distractions, lovingly remind them that success at work should never come at the cost of failure at home.
  • Be an example of Christ’s love by treating your spouse with kindness, patience, respect, and forgiveness.

Remember: Every strong Christian family is a testimony of God’s grace. As you help strengthen marriages, you are advancing God’s kingdom and becoming a blessing to your generation.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
