BASIC SCRIPTURE
Psalm 51
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
INTRODUCTION
The cry for mercy is the cry for change. Mercy of God is the pardon to our sin and iniquity. When a person cries ”O Lord, show me mercy”. Such a person is placing his life entirely in God’s hand. The person is saying ” O Lord, do not treat me according to the punishment I deserve, but according to Your love and mercy.
The mercy of God comes when we realise that we have offended God and making efforts to ask for mercy and forgiveness of of our sin by returning back to Him in repentance. When you say ”O Lord show me mercy”, it therefore means you are tired of your situation and you want Him to help you out.
When God show you mercy, your sins will be forgiven, when God show you mercy your life will be spared from destruction. When God show you mercy, you will be restored. When He releases His grace upon your life, you are going to be empowered to do or achieve what’s not achievable by human calculations.
Mercy is powerful; God’s mercy can change the life and destiny of a man. We can’t go far in life without His mercy. When there’s no mercy, prayer and fasting becomes useless. But when you cry for mercy, you will be given a second chance.
Sin can rob us of our divine support. It can even separate us from God. Sin and iniquity are testimony blockers. But when you confess your sin, and walk in righteousness, mercy of God will speak for you this season.
When God’s favour rest on you, your ways will be opened, what looks difficult to achieve in your eyes will become very easy. When you cry out to God for mercy in this fasting programme, you are coming back to God in humility and sincerity of your heart.
One of the signs to know God’s mercy has come, is through inner peace and joy. You begin to have comfort and peace of mind. Nothing borders you anymore. The person will begin to see the hand of God in his life.
When God show you mercy, then it means your battle comes to an end. It means there’s no more struggle and vain efforts in your life. David understood the benefits of crying out to God for mercy. He doesn’t joke with the mercy of God.
That’s He says in the word of God. ”Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out of my transgressions (Psalm 51:1).
David did not argue his case to God. He submitted and surrendered himself to God. He appealed to God’s mercy, and mercy answered for Him, preserved his destiny, and restored his fellowship with God better. You must do like David today.
Beloved, it’s time to run back to God in mercy. The best time to repent is now.Let him show you mercy so that things will begin to work well for you and your family this year. By crying for mercy, you are opening all your secrets to Him.
Mercy came to the man at the pool of bathesda. Mercy came to Jonah after refusal to preach the gospel of Christ. Blind Bartimaeus also cried for mercy (Luke 18:38-42). The Tax Collector declares: Be merciful to me as a sinner.
Mercy silences all kinds of accusations, cancels evil records and releases help at the right time. God delights in showing you mercy today. Be ready to cry out to Him in anger, He’s your father and mercy will locate you today, in Jesus name. As you partake in this 40 days fasting and prayer programme today, may the Lord remember you for good, in Jesus name.
