DAY 3: A CRY FOR FORGIVENESS OF SIN
1 John 1:9,
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Psalm 51:1–2
“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”
INTRODUCTION
Sin is one of the greatest barriers between man and God. It disconnects us from grace and weakens our glory, blocking our prayers and opens door for affliction to thrive in our life.
In Isaiah 59:1-2 says that God’s hand is not short to save, neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
Forgiveness is the key; Forgiveness activates God’s love and mercy. Forgiveness save us from trouble. In 1 John 4:20, If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
A man who finds it hard to love his brother and claim that he loves God, he’s deceiving himself. When you love others, God’s love grow in you. Similarly, when you forgive others, you likewise, release them out of your mind, and once you do that, your heart becomes free, and the spirit of God dwells and settles in your spirit. Forgiveness attracts God’s presence in our life. And it also paves way for our answered prayer.
A man who has the love of Christ in him will easily forgive others. To gain the love of God, you must love yourself first and others. But if you fail to love those God puts in your life to help, you may face the consequences.
The Bible says, For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: Its clear that what you sow you will reap. If you sow righteousness into people’s life, good things will follow you. But if one sows evil, evil follows the person.
In this programme, we must cry for the forgiveness of our sin. Please know that we are all sinners. And God is expecting us to come to the throne of Grace and obtain His mercy. The mercy of God can change the story of a man in a minute.
Prayer is the key to get answers from God. But prayers with a heart full of evil becomes hard to be heard by God. God does not look at your mouth when praying, He searches the spirit in your heart. God does not answer the prayer of a sinner. He only give grace or chance to return back to Him in repentance. God does not show mercy to those who are not willing to repent from sin and ask Him for forgiveness.
The Bible says, you can’t continue in sin and expect God to show you mercy. No wonder the Bible says, He that covereth his sins shall not prosper. There’s no way a man that covers his sin will obtain mercy from God. You can hide your sin from people but you cannot hide it forever from God. God sees what is in secret!
One day, the sin will find you out. You can confess your sin to yourself, but if you didn’t involve the Holy Spirit to bring it to His awareness, your sin may not be forgiven. Mercy is not released to those who have refused to show others mercy.
But mercy is released to those who are ready to confess and repent from their sin and do what the Lord commands; That’s why in day 3 of our fasting programme, you must cry out to God for repentance. You must cry for forgiveness to those you have hurt and offended by your actions. The truth is that, if you offends a righteous person, your prayer may go block until the person forgives you.
The Lord is saying to you today, today is the best time to repent from your sin. Because tomorrow may be too late. Our salvation matters to God than any other things. No wonder He says, seek Ye first the Kingdom of God. So this means you must walk out your relationship with Christ this year.
Repentance builds or restores our fellowship with God, revives our spiritual life, removes guilt and condemnation from our life and bring back the love and mercy of God to us. Repentance prepares us for divine visitation.Until you cry for forgiveness, things may not change in your life.
By crying for forgiveness is not only by emotional tears, it’s about your readiness to say I am tired of this sinful life. I want to live a new life in Christ Jesus. The truth is that, some prayers may not work until you do the right thing by forgiving yourself first.
When you cry for forgiveness, God may decide to forgive based on the condition that you will not return back to your sinful life. Forgiveness of your sin gives you confidence to pray. Asking for mercy, means you are telling the Holy Spirit you are tired of sinning, and that you want to live a holy and righteous life.
As we cry today for forgiveness in this fasting programme, may our Lord forgive us, heal our mind, and show us his love and mercy, in Jesus name.
CONFESSION
O Lord my God, I come before You today with a broken and contrite heart. I acknowledge my sins before You, and I do not justify myself in any way. I take full responsibility and condemn every sin in my life. I repent sincerely of every known and unknown sin—sins of disobedience, pride, lust, bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, and every way I have fallen short of Your glory.
By the power of the blood of Jesus, I plead for mercy. Wash me thoroughly from all iniquity, cleanse my heart, and purge my conscience from dead works. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right and steadfast spirit within me.
I turn away completely from every sinful path, and I return fully to You with my whole heart. From this day forward, I receive grace to walk in obedience, to live a holy life, and to please You in all my ways. Strengthen me by Your Spirit to hate sin and love righteousness. Thank You, Father, for Your mercy, forgiveness, and restoration. I receive freedom, renewal, and alignment with Your will, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP
Spend 10 to 15 minutes in worship to God. Take time to magnify the Lord with a grateful and humble heart. Thank Him for the gift of life and for granting you another opportunity to return to Him. Worship Him quietly and sincerely, laying down every pride, excuse, and self-justification before His presence. Surrender your heart completely to Him, inviting His presence to search, cleanse, and restore you as you are taking this fasting journey.
