DAY 12: A CRY FOR MERCY OVER REPETITIVE SIN

Psalm 130:3

 If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Exodus 33:19

And the Lord said, ‘I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

1 Peter 5:8-9

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

INTRODUCTION

Repetitive sin is one of the most common struggles among many believers today. It often begins calmly, like a minor habit or weakness, but over time it grows into a stronghold that feels almost impossible to break.

Repetitive sin is a sin a person commits again and again, often without fully considering the spiritual, emotional, and eternal consequences. When a sin becomes habitual, it is dangerous, because it quietly causes deep damage long before the person realizes how far it has gone.

When sin becomes repetitive, its ultimate aim is to weaken you, embarrass you, and pull you backward spiritually. A person cannot continue in sin and still enjoy genuine fellowship with God. Even when such a person tries to pray or draw close, the sense of God’s presence is affected, because sin creates distance.

The first and most important step toward freedom is to be genuinely born again and fully surrendered to Christ. When you are born again, you are renewed in Christ Jesus. As the Scripture says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Sin is sin, but when it becomes repetitive, it develops into a form of bondage or addiction. Sins such as anger, lust, sexual immorality, lying, cheating, smoking, or repeated backsliding can gradually take control if they are not confronted early.

One clear sign that the mercy of God has come upon a person’s life is a genuine break from the power of that repeated sin. When mercy intervenes, forgiveness is released and strength to overcome is supplied. If you are currently struggling with a repetitive sin, the right response is not to hide or justify it, but to run to Jesus in sincere repentance.

Any sin you repeat consistently becomes a personal battleground. It is an area the enemy seeks to use to weaken and eventually destroy you. You must confront it honestly and deny the devil access before the sin destroys your spiritual life.

Do not be afraid to call the sin by its name; your salvation and freedom matter deeply to God. The Bible warns that unrepented sin will eventually expose itself if it is not dealt with. If the struggle is sexual immorality or any other secret sin, the answer remains the same: stop, repent, and return fully to God.

God is never tired of forgiving or showing mercy, but He expects us to become tired of sin. When that weariness turns into a sincere cry for help, the mercy of God responds and brings rescue. David sinned, yet when he cried out in genuine repentance, God showed him mercy and restored him.

The Scripture says, “Do not let sin have dominion over you, for you are not under the law but under grace.” Grace is not a license to continue in sin; it is the power to overcome sin. Mercy opens the door to forgiveness, and grace empowers you to keep walking in righteousness. Today’s cry should be simple and honest: “Lord, I am not hiding anymore.”

Say it from your heart: “Lord, I am tired of this secret sin. I need Your mercy to strengthen my weakness.” As you pray and open your heart before God, the One who sees in secret will forgive you, cleanse you, and restore you. His mercy is sufficient, and His grace is able to give you lasting victory.

CONFESSION

O Lord my God, I come boldly before Your throne of grace, seeking mercy in my time of desperate need. I confess my sins to You openly and honestly, hiding nothing from Your sight. I do not justify my failures or make excuses for my repeated transgressions. I lay them bare before You, acknowledging the full weight of what I have done.

Father, I recognize my own weakness and complete inability to overcome these sins in my own strength. I renounce all confidence in my flesh and admit that apart from You, I can do nothing. I have tried and failed too many times by relying on my own willpower, and now I come empty-handed, depending entirely on Your grace.

Lord, in Your great mercy and according to Your unfailing love, forgive me of all my sins. Wash me thoroughly and cleanse me completely. Let the blood of Jesus speak over every repeated failure and cover every shameful cycle. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Father, by Your mighty power, break every cycle of repetitive sin operating in my life. Shatter every pattern that has been established through repeated failure. Destroy every stronghold built up in my mind, emotions, and body. Uproot every seed of sin planted in my life through exposure, environment, or inheritance. Cast out every demon assigned to keep me trapped in this cycle of defeat.

Lord, I receive Your freedom by faith. I declare that sin shall no longer have dominion over me because I am under Your grace. I am dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Where sin abounded in my life, let Your grace abound much more. Let the same power that raised Christ from the dead now work in me to overcome what I could never overcome on my own.

Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit and empower me to walk in righteousness. Give me Your strength to resist temptation, Your wisdom to avoid the pathways of sin, and Your grace to stand firm when weakness comes. Help me to walk by the Spirit so that I will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. Establish my steps in Your Word and guide me on the path of holiness.

Lord, I do not ask for perfection, but for progress. I do not ask to never be tempted, but for the grace to overcome when temptation comes. I do not ask to never stumble, but for the strength to rise again and keep fighting. Give me a heart that truly hates sin and loves righteousness. Let my love for You become greater than any attraction to sin.

Father, I trust in Your promise that You who began a good work in me will complete it. I believe that You are able to keep me from stumbling and to present me faultless before Your throne. I rest in Your faithfulness, knowing that You will not abandon the work of Your hands.

Thank You, Lord, for hearing my cry for mercy. Thank You for Your forgiveness, Your grace, and Your delivering power. I receive my freedom now by faith and commit myself to walking in the newness of life You have given me. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

PRAISE AND WORSHIP

During these 10-15 minutes of worship:

• Lift your voice in praise to the Lord, magnifying His name above every sin, every struggle, and every stronghold in your life.
• Sing songs of worship that exalt Jesus Christ and declare His lordship over your life. Let your worship be sincere, not mechanical.
• Thank God for His mercy that is new every morning, even after countless failures. Thank Him that He has not given up on you.
• Declare His attributes: He is faithful, compassionate, mighty to save, slow to anger, rich in mercy, and abounding in steadfast love.
• Acknowledge His worthiness: Worship Him not because of what He has done, but because of who He is, the King of kings and Lord of lords.
• Surrender your heart completely as you worship. Let go of every burden, every shame, every guilt, and every condemnation. Come into His presence with openness and humility.
• Invite the Holy Spirit to fill the atmosphere around you. Ask Him to prepare your heart to pray effectively and to receive the breakthrough you need.

(DAY 12): A CRY FOR MERCY OVER REPETITIVE SIN – Prayer Points

1. Father, I come before Your throne of grace with boldness through the blood of Jesus Christ, crying out for mercy over my repetitive sins, in the name of Jesus.

2. Father Lord, I come before You broken and humble; have mercy on me and forgive every sin that keeps repeating in my life, in the name of Jesus.

3. Father, let Your mercy that endures forever be my portion as I struggle against the patterns of sin that keep ensnaring me, in the name of Jesus.

4. Lord Jesus, You who had mercy on the woman caught in adultery, have mercy on me in my cycle of repeated failure, in the name of Jesus.

5. Holy Spirit, I invite Your convicting and empowering presence into every area where I have fallen into sin repeatedly, in the name of Jesus.

6. Father, I confess that I have sinned against You repeatedly in [specific area], and I am truly sorry for grieving Your heart, have mercy upon me, in the name of Jesus.

7. Father, I repent of every time I have promised to stop my sin but returned back to the same sin like a dog to its vomit, forgive me, O Lord.

8. O Lord, forgive me for every secret sin I have committed repeatedly, thinking no one sees or knows about it, show me mercy, in the name of Jesus.

9. Father, wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin, as David cried out in Psalm 51, in the name of Jesus.

10. O Lord, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me after all my repeated failures, in the name of Jesus.

11. By Your mercy, O Lord, uproot the root of the stubborn and repetitive sin in my life, in the name of Jesus.

12. Father, forgive me for returning back to the sin You have delivered me from, show me mercy again, in the name of Jesus.

13. Every demonic reinforcement behind this sinful habit in my life, be destroyed by the power in the blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.

14. By the mercy of God, I break the power of sinful habits ruling my heart and flesh. in the name of Jesus.

15. O Lord, heal me of every wound that keeps pushing me back into sin, in the name of Jesus.

16. O Lord, destroy the pleasure that keeps sin attractive to my flesh, in the name of Jesus.

17. Father, restore my hunger for holiness and righteousness by Your mercy, in the name of Jesus.

18. By the mercy of God, I receive lasting victory over repetitive sin in my life, in the name of Jesus.

19. By the mercy of God, I command repetitive sin to lose its hold over me now, in the name of Jesus.

20. O God of mercy, arise and break the stubborn hold of repetitive sin over my life, in the name of Jesus.

21. Father as I cry to You for mercy, let every sinful habit that has grown stronger than my will, be broken by fire, in the name of Jesus.

22. Father, I crush every sin that has become normal in my life by the power of God, in the name of Jesus.

23. O Lord, as I cry to You, let Your mercy strengthen my will to obey You and be afraid of committing sin, in the name of Jesus.

24. My God, I want change in my life. Let self-control be restored in my spirit by Your grace, in the name of Jesus.

25. By the mercy of God, I receive power to walk in the spirit and not fulfil the lust of the flesh, in the name of Jesus.

26. Any sin I run to when I am tired, lonely, or discouraged, lose your power over me now by the mercy of God, in the name of Jesus.

27. O Lord, restore my relationship with You that has been damaged by cycles of repeated sin, in the name of Jesus.

28. O Lord, restore my joy of salvation that was lost through the guilt and shame of repetitive sin, in the name of Jesus.

29. Father, let Your power be perfected in my weakness as I trust You to overcome this sin, in the name of Jesus.

30. O Lord, let Your grace be sufficient for me in my weakness regarding this repetitive sin, in the name of Jesus.

31. Father, let Your grace teach me to say “no” to ungodliness and worldly passions, including this sin in my life, in the name of Jesus.

32. O Lord, help me to depend on Your grace rather than my willpower to walk in victory over this sin, in the name of Jesus.

33. Father, let the same power that raised Christ from the dead work in me to overcome this repetitive sin, in the name of Jesus.

34. Father, let Your grace be multiplied to me so I can triumph over this sin that has triumphed over my life so many times, in the name of Jesus.

35. O Lord, help me to replace the time I spent in sin with the time spent in Your presence, in the name of Jesus.

36. O Lord, help me to receive Your truth that there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, in the name of Jesus.

37. Father, help me to forgive myself even as You have forgiven me for this repetitive sin, in the name of Jesus.

38. O Lord, silence every accusation of the enemy that uses my past failures to predict my future, in the name of Jesus.

39. Father, give me supernatural strength to do what I cannot do in my own power to resist this sin, in the name of Jesus.

40. O Lord, empower my decision to say “no” to this sin and “yes” to righteousness, in the name of Jesus.

41. Father, fill my mind with Your Word so there’s no room for thoughts that lead to repetitive sin in my life, in the name of Jesus.

42. O Lord, renew my mind in every area of my life corrupted by repetitive sin, in the name of Jesus.

43. O Lord, replace every sinful thought pattern with thoughts that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable, in the name of Jesus.

44. Father, transform my thinking by washing it with the water of Your Word, in the name of Jesus.

45. O Lord, by Your mercy, expose and destroy every root cause of this repetitive sin in my life, in Jesus’ name.

46. Lord, set me free from every form of bondage that keeps pulling me back to this sin, in Jesus’ name.

47. Father, cast out every demon assigned to ensure I keep falling into the same sin repeatedly, in the name of Jesus.

48. Father, deliver me from the love of sin that makes me return to it despite the pain it causes me, in the name of Jesus.

49. O Lord, set me free from every trigger, temptation, and trap that causes me to repeat this sin over and over again, in the name of Jesus.

50. O Lord, I cry out for mercy to cover my shame, guilt, and condemnation over my repetitive sin, in the name of Jesus.

51. Father, I cry out like Peter sinking in the waves: “Lord, save me!” from this repetitive sin, in the name of Jesus.

52. O Lord, I cry out to You acknowledging that without Your intervention, I will remain trapped in this cycle forever, help me Lord.

53. O Lord, I cry out with tears like the woman who washed Your feet, desperate for mercy and freedom, in the name of Jesus.

54. Father, destroy every ungodly atmosphere in my home, workplace, or routine that strengthen this sin in my life, in the name of Jesus.

55. O Lord, help me to disconnect from every media source that feeds the desire for this repetitive sin, in the name of Jesus.

56. Father, break every unhealthy relationship or connection that reinforces this cycle of sin in my life, in the name of Jesus.

57. Father, give me courage to bring this repetitive sin out of darkness and into the light, in the name of Jesus.

58. O Lord, help me to confess this sin to a trusted believer who can pray with me and hold me accountable, in the name of Jesus.

59. O Lord, break every spirit of pride that keeps me from being transparent about my struggle, in the name of Jesus.

60. Father, destroy the fear of judgement that prevents me from seeking the support I need, in the name of Jesus.

61. o Lord, I plead the blood of Jesus over every repeated sin and cry out for mercy to break its power over my life, in the name of Jesus.

62. Father, let Your mercy reach down to the depths of my struggle and lift me out of this pit, in the name of Jesus.

63. O Lord, have mercy on me and do not cast me away from Your presence because of my repeated failures, in the name of Jesus.

64. Father, let Your mercy be new to me every morning as I face the temptation to return back to this sin, in the name of Jesus.

65. Father, shatter every pattern of sin that has been established in my mind, emotions, and body, in the name of Jesus.

66. Father, cast out every demon assigned to ensure I keep falling into the same sin repeatedly, in the name of Jesus.

67. O Lord, break every generational pattern that has made this particular sin repetitive in my family line, in the name of Jesus.

PRAYER ASSIGNMENT

STEP 1: WRITE DOWN YOUR SINS

Take a piece of paper and honestly write down the specific sin or sins you are currently battling with. Be honest with God and with yourself. Don’t hide behind general terms – be specific about what you’re struggling with. This is between you and God alone.

STEP 2: PRAY SERIOUSLY OVER THEM

Before you burn the paper, take time to pray seriously over each sin you’ve written down. This is not a casual prayer – this is a moment of deep repentance and crying out for God’s mercy. You can use the following prayer guide:

Prayer Guide:

• Confess each sin specifically to God and ask for His forgiveness
• Repent genuinely and turn away from these sins in your heart
• Ask God to break every cycle, pattern, and stronghold associated with these sins
• Plead the blood of Jesus over each sin written on that paper
• Command every demonic power reinforcing these sins to leave your life
• Declare your freedom in Christ and your decision to walk in holiness
• Thank God for His mercy, forgiveness, and delivering power

STEP 3: BURN THE PAPER

After praying seriously, burn the paper completely. As you watch it burn, declare that just as the paper is being consumed by fire, so are these sins being consumed by the fire of the Holy Spirit. The burning is a prophetic act symbolizing:

• The destruction of these sins’ power over your life
• God’s purifying fire cleansing you from all unrighteousness
• Your old life being consumed and a new life beginning
• The permanent removal of these sins from your life

STEP 4: READ ROMANS CHAPTER 6

STEP 5: DECLARE YOUR NEW IDENTITY

After reading Romans 6, stand up and declare out loud:

“I am dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Sin no longer has dominion over me because I am under grace. My old self was crucified with Christ, and I now walk in newness of life. I am a slave of righteousness, not a slave to sin. I am free in Jesus’ name!”

STEP 6: TAKE PRACTICAL STEPS

Freedom requires both spiritual breakthrough and practical action:

• Remove every trigger and access point to these sins
• Establish accountability with a trusted believer
• Fill your life with God’s Word, prayer, and worship
• Avoid places, people, and situations that lead you back to these sins
• Replace old sinful habits with new righteous patterns
• Stay vigilant and never become overconfident
